Ordered for pickup. Two burgers and one fry. The burgers were tasty and delicious. No complaints. The fries on the other hand were soggy. Certainly not freshly made. I would avoid the fries if this is the standard. Service from phone order to pickup was okay. Order taker could have been a bit more friendly as it was a business tone and I could sense if I took too much longer ordering he'd get testy. As it was he took first burger order and was ready to hang up. Didn't ask if I wanted anything else. I had to say , wait, I have more. Ordered second burger. I absolutely love this place, it's like an elevated version of an in-n-out burger. Simple burger. Their fries are my favorite with the spicy ketchup! It's a tiny solid burger spot. There are a few parking spots right outside in this little plaza - when we went all the spots were taken but we found street parking a block away. Didn't have a problem with parking during lunch during the week and they weren't too busy. Order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Inside and outside seating. Staff friendly. They are an In-N-Out dupe, and are pretty good however they are almost 3x the cost. Tried: Jimi (Dirty) fries $6.25 - super long fries just like animal fries. Good. Double cheeseburger $14 - the patty was super oily, not really my thing. Flavor was good. On our journey to find the best burgers in San Diego, we came across Hayes Burger. Social media looked promising and we saw a lot of advertisements for their smash burgers. Someone on TikTok had rated them highly so we had high expectations. The restaurant isn't that big inside and they've got an even smaller parking lot in front. No restrooms for customers too. It was super hot and stuffy inside and there were flies everywhere. Sitting outside in the summer heat was more tolerable than the stuffy restaurant and all the flies. When we got our food, I was expecting smashburgers but I don't agree that these were. When I think of smashburgers, I imagine thin patties with a slight crisp along the edges. These were regular sized patties, no crisp along the edges. And although it was good, it tasted no different from In-N-Out and I couldn't justify the price. These burgers are pretty expensive for what they are. You're better off spending the same amount of money at In-N-Out and getting double the food. Their Jimi Fries are essential dupes of In-N-Out's Animal Style Fries. Overall, because of how similar it was to In-N-Out, I was disappointed. With the higher price, I would've expected something that was bigger or tasted unique or delicious, but we got average tasting burgers instead. read more

Hayes Burger's makes a nice cheeseburger. They use Angus 100% ground chuck, so the flavor and juiciness of their burgers are there. I had the cheeseburger with all the fixing except only mustard for my sauce. I also added pickles to my burger. The burger comes with a toasted brioche bun. The burger tasted very good, especially the beef. I liked the freshness of the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. The brioche bun was perfect. I only wish the three oz patty was a four oz patty. A little larger beef patty on this burger would be just grand, especially since it costs $11 and some change. The service was very friendly and welcoming. 4.5 stars Came to try Hayes burger's new location, in North Park. I got a double cheese burger and a small fries the total came out to $18 and change. The Burger is made of 2, 3oz smash patties, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato on a toasted brioche bun with 1000 island dressing ($14 for a double). I'd say it was an upscale In-N-out burger or maybe a cross between In-N-Out and The Friendly's Dirty Flattop burger. The smash patties and grilled onions remind me of the Dirty Flat top but fresher, as it comes with lettuce and tomato. The smash patties have a lot of crusty surface area which give it a nice texture, it was a bit salty but I was ok with it, as it had a very meaty taste. I also got a small fries ($3.48) which I though was rather large and enough to share with 2 people. They are hand cut as you can see the skins on some parts, but they are much crispier than In-N-Out. They actually treat them properly, I think they are dried and double fried, which In-N-Out fails to do. A double cheese burger and small fries was a lot of food, I think I would share the fries with someone or order a single cheeseburger next time, or a double cheeseburger and skip the fries. Service was very simple and easy, just walk up and order, they bring it to your table. They have both a regular and a spicy ketchup. I didn't find the spicy ketchup spicy at all initially but the mild spice kicks in a little later. It's very mild so I think the majority of people could handle this. There was a neon sign but since I went during the day, it was washed out by the sun so I could not see it. Since they close during the early evening, the sign cant be seen the majority of their working hours. I think a plastic sign that is back lit would be better or paint "Hayes Burger" on the wall behind the sign so you can see something during the day. I passed the place because I couldn't see the sign. They are located In the Adams Plaza between Thai Joint and Robertos Taco shop, so look for those signs. They do have parking out front but share them with the other businesses. Theres only a single row of parking spaces so when you pull out you have to back out into traffic which I don't like, so I prefer to park on the street. They just opened this week and there is NO sign (temporarily an ugly blue trapezoid where the sign should be). It's in the tiny four restaurant plaza next to Rolberto's Taco Shop. Not busy (yet). I like Hayes Burger but I felt this locations execution didn't level up to the experiences I've had at Barrio Logan. I use to say Hayes is a step up from In and Out but after today I may have preferred In and Out - due to price and flavor. I spent ~$19 and sure didn't feel it's worth. Mind you, when Hayes first came to existence, all this was under $10. :: ORDER :: HAMBURGER ($10.90) - it was nicely presented but the bottom was greasy. The burger was nothing special. I also don't like carmelized onion and didn't realize it came with it. The menu description said "hamburger" lol. SMALL FRIES ($3.94) - my fries could have been fried a tad bit longer. The very ends were very crispy but 90% of the fry appeared crispy but were flimsy. I prefer fires to be evenly cooked and crispier. SPRITE - drinks served in a can :: SERVICE :: Very friendly! But I feel they lacked with keeping the new space clean. Although this place is clean-up-after-yourself service, the staff don't bother wiping down tables when they are greasy and have other people's crumbs left behind. You won't see trays or dirty napkins but you will see greasy spots and crumbs. I ended up wiping down my own area. I also heard people next to me say something about the table being dirty. The place is tiny so not much to wipe down. 4 outside tables (8 seats) 4 counter seats 2 inside tables that usually would seat two per table has a crowd of five chairs (kind of crammed when people are seated in them) When craving Hayes I'll take the drive to Barrio Logan for a better taste, better prices for the same stuff, and more on the menu. If you like a certain easy to go to burger spot but elevated, you should give Hayes burger a try! It's not greasy like a smashed burger at all. Soft buns with grilled onions, tomato and lettuce. You can do a single, double, with cheese, no cheese, add some chopped chili. Pick your favorite style! The fries are also crispy with a good texture. You order at the counter, get your number and find a seat if dining in. Our cashier was sweet and nice. It's very casual with plenty of folks walking in from the neighborhood. There is some parking spot in front but limited since it's shared with a couple shops next door. Best bet is find street parking and walk on through! read more

Hayes Burger opened up their second shop in Normal Heights, so I no longer have to drive down to Barrio Logan which doesn't help my waistline. We were starving and arrived right when they opened. We ordered a double cheeseburger, a single hamburger, a small regular fries, and a Jimi fries, and 2 cans of soda totaling $46. Hayes is serving up fresh smash burgers from their flattop and pairing it with their delicious fries. The regular salted ones are perfectly crisp, salty, and yummy but can't be topped when paired against their Jimi fries. Think In n Out animal style but better. These are thicker French fries with melted cheese, thousand island, and perfectly sautéed onions all served with a fork. The burgers were great, vegetables on top with their spread hit the mark. The price was steep; especially charging close to $4 for a can of soda when one could walk next door to 7-11 and grab a can for $2 which we saw a few people do. I ordered the cheesburger, grilled cheese, and fries. cheeseburger: best of the what I got, but the meat was so thin I had to look for it. The dressing and abundance of salt is where the flavor comes from. grilled cheese: this felt like a prank. it's a hamburger bun with the inside butter and toasted and flipped around so it's on the outside. A slice of cheese and a pile of onions in the middle. Hardly any cheese, bread/bun is all wrong. This was just dumb. fries: this was a soft pile of fries mushed together. It litereally took the shape of the container when I dumped them out to eat them. I had trouble seperating the fries; they just tore and ripped in half. Half of it was warm, the other have was cold. Not room temperature, they were cold. Some parts were so salty it actually dried my mouth out. I'm convinced these fries were made hours ago and then microwaved to be served. Needless to say I will not be going back. I hate to even say it, but Burger lounge in Kensington and Swan Bar by Adams and 30th run circles around this joke of a restaurant. read more

I wanted to try the place, so today was a good day to try. It's very small, with one table for two and a counter with four stools. I ordered the regular cheeseburger, small fries and can soda. The burger was okay. For $11 I would have liked something a little more substantial. This was small and although it tasted fine and was cooked well (smashed patty I think) it seemed to be lacking something. I just couldn't put my finger on it. Mostly smallish. The fries on the other hand, were plentiful and delicious! Good size and portion for a small, and really tasty. The techno music was kind of monotonous. Reminded me of Groove Salad on KPBS/3 and online. It's okay but gets old after a few minutes. A place like this should have AAA or Classic Rock. The patty tastes better than in n out, it is smashed and bigger, has that crisp. Overall, a well done classic cheeseburger. The ingredients tastes fresh. The fries also taste very classic, not overly salted. They taste very potatoey. I think there is legitimate complaint that it cost way more than in n out. However the burger definitely tastes better than in n out, because the ingredients are better. Also you don't have to wait for 20 mins, you can just order online for pick up. read more

I've tried both locations and they both were similar. a very tasty burger. they may seem a little more expensive than other burger joints, but they are delicious, worth every penny. Parking at the North Park location may be tricky, but when isn't it an issue in North Park. They are in a strip mall type area with practically the same number of parking spots as businesses there. Bario Logan has better parking. Barrio Logan also has a slightly larger indoor area and some outside seating, where North Park has a some indoor seating and I believe 2 outdoor table s. I got a triple cheeseburger with spicy peppers added and Jimmy fries also with peppers. Not sure if they use a 70/30 ground beef, but it has a nice smash burger crust and good juiciness. I quickly purchased this amazing offer We were the first customers today. Parked right in front and there was ample parking spaces in their lot. We were very impressed with the high quality customer service the two male workers provided. They were very friendly and attentive. We ordered a double cheeseburger, cheeseburger, and fries.
