So first thing is the issues I see posted here are not just random and these mailings and payments being posted in a timely manner are not a coincidence. Multiple times in the past three years, we have had Hays post our payment late or claiming we were "past due". Twice out of the last 4 months, our checks in the mail were claimed to be late!! Never in over 34 years of living in this subdivision has my water utility threatened to cut off my water supply! How hard can it be to check their mailbox, process my payment and post the credit to my account, well evidently, pretty hard? If you call and complain, they blame it on the postal service or the past holidays schedule and question your if you truly mailed their payment. It is a racket and other customers complaints verify the existence of shady practices. read more

Hays Utility is the utility service group that services and administers the water district usage in my area. While I've had my beefs with them previously about how they manage actual water control, this particular review is for their billing and treatment of customers. Take note, Hays Utility: this IS a big deal. Your customers DO NOT appreciate receiving a notice that states they are delinquent and will have their service cut off due to what appears to be a matter within your organization. Each month I receive a bill that is due on the 2nd of the following month. Multiple years ago I began using electronic payment methods through my bank (not through Hays Utility) to pay my bills. Every 20th day of the month prior to my bill being due I submit the bill to be paid in full; my bank will then cut a check and send it to Hays Utility (since they do not participate in EFT). Payment is then submitted by the 23rd of the month and received by the 25th of the month: a full week prior to the bill being due. I have lived at this location for over 25 years and never been late on any payment of my water bill. Open up my water bill this month to see a gargantuan bill! And in large letters: DELINQUENT. A note at the bottom reads: "Your water service is past due and is scheduled for termination." HOLY COW PATTIES! After a call to Hays Utility, here's what was determined: Apparently, a large group of electronic banking payments from multiple banks (Wells Fargo, Bank of America, amongst others) were never received. I was told "You're not alone. We're waiving the delinquency fee and your service will not be cut off." BUT -- I had to call my bank and put a stop payment on the payment check made nearly a month ago and now pay last month's bill along with this month's bill, despite the fact that last month's bill amount had already been deducted from my checking account. "No big deal." That's was Hays told me. Yeah, right! When I called Wells Fargo, they admitted this seemed "awfully suspect." Add that to the fact that I have to wait at least 5 business days for the disappeared payment to be credited back to my account. The reason for my review: If Hays Utility knew (as it was admitted to me) that this was an issue at the end of last month -- I was told it was all bank payments that came through at the end of February -- then why weren't we notified prior to our next bill? A long-standing customer that has a stellar credit record will have their water shut off when you admit there was an obvious problem with other bank payments? This does not appear to be an isolated issue -- and you should not have treated it as such. For those of you that have Hays Utility as the administrator of your MUD, watch your bill carefully. They will assume no responsibility should an error occur. Although I am grateful that they waived the erroneous late fees, I'm betting that they're just as grateful they did in order to avoid the legal fees I would have thrown at them. K we give them a call, there is a $60 fee AND $100 deposit fee!!!!!! so now our payment went from $157 to over $300. WOW. Shittiest customer service over the phone and horrible penalties. Never been late before, always been on time and this is the punishment for a one-time mistake. MONEY HUNGRY PIT!!! Where does this deposit go toward? NOTHING. If we have another missed payment the deposit will be $200, then a third time will be $300. This money just "sits" there but does not go toward the account unless we move away. If I could produce a minus star I would since I've used their service since 2012 we've had nothing but inconsistency with their water control and billing practices 70.00 plus per month of usage according to them I'm extremely grateful since we have moved we don't have to deal with them any longer. We had our service disconnected on March 1st and they still billed us for the entire month of March along with previous month charges of over 1100 gallons of water usage that they claim . Now they're stating what is left of the deposit can take up to 60 to 90 days to be returned once it goes before the board which is ridiculous. At our new location which we moved in since Mar 1st our billing is less than 25.00 for the month , 53.00 to be exact for 2 months . Something needs to done with this group and reported . The things that this Utility Company asks for from owners, property managers etc is completely ABSURD. And the fact that they don't hold things on file, so even if water is turned on in your name for 1 month (just to have repairs done etc) and then goes in a tenants name, you then, yet again, have to come up with the same paperwork for them. This is 2022, you would think that they could EASILY keep records on each property (you know they do) and not make everyone jump through hoops for every little thing. And getting things Notarized, really? We should have them have to do the same thing. This months bill was outrageously high. According to my bill, I had used 15 thousand gallons total for the month of August. I know for a fact that I did not use 7-9 thousand gallons more as my water usage has always been at at least 6000 gallons and AT MOST 8 thousand when we dont get alot of rain and I use my irrigation system. I called in 3 seperate times to get the issue resolved and all three times the ladys resolution to this was to either pay them to have some out to read my meter (Which is something I can do myself and takes no more than a minute) or pay the bill cause theres not an issue on their end.... REALLY ?!?!? I did bring up how about 100 others in my community have had the same issue and even went as far as telling the lady that for 1. the bill is about the same for most of us (100$ (give or take) added on to our bill) 2. Most of us have a household of 2 or 4 people and some have even seen their water usage at 20-40 thousand gallons. Her answer to that was " Well I cant speak for you or your neighbors on how you use your water." They are a real scam and its unfortunate that theres nothing we can do about but to pay the bill. I've done my research on this and a running toilet or faucet wouldnt even be 1000 gallons in a month. The water meter also has a triangle on it and if that triangle moved up and down even the slightest bit then that would mean theres a water leak in pipes which mine isnt moving at all. I have the next door app and many in the neighborhood that have lived here for years have even said that this happens every year around this time and the water company never has an explanation as to why the bill is way more than usual other than to "check for a leak". Some have also even said theyve noticed the water bill go up when theres a hurricane/severe thunderstorm event...... Are you kididng me?! What a scam. read more

This has got to be the worst mud district in the world. My family and I were flooded out and rescued by boat on the 28th of August. We've been living in a hotel in Kingwood for two weeks now, after spending two days in the Spring HS shelter. We finally get the contractors over to start work on the house, and the water is off!! Made a payment on the 15th of September for the past due amount, and they still suspended service!! Where is the compassion for the people who are homeless right now? MONTGOMERY COUNTY RESIDENTS Beware of the billing department of Hays Utilities North. I paid my bill on the due date, which falls on a Saturday, when they are closed. However, they claim that they didn't receive until Monday, the day it cleared. The lady in customer service argued with me that the payment was made on Monday, when in fact it was made physically in their drop-in window designed to take payments two days before. She finally relented and credited the $8.50 late fee seeing the flaws of their billing system. I said to her that I'm sure other people are having the same issue. Hays is making extra money illegally by using this practice of overcharging their customers late fees. I suggest you audit your payment history with this Utility to see if you were also ripped off. But Krystal was very helpful to me when I called to establish service. She was friendly and down to earth, and my conversation with her was very pleasant. Unfortunately, I do not have a choice and have to use their services. Here's the thing--in order to set up water before moving in, Hays requires a $300 deposit FROM EVERY RENTER. It doesn't matter if you have good credit. Next, Hays charges a 5% "transaction fee," for taking your deposit. Then they charge a $25 service fee. So they get all kinds of free money from everyone before even providing a service. I am shocked at this business practice, and I'm unsure why the Texas Utilities Commission does not investigate them. It's clear that they only get away with this because people aren't allowed to use another water service. read more

Billing issue and double charging me for bills i had already paid. They didn't send out my bill until after the billing cycle and it came with a late fee plus the next month bill was added on which made me look like i didn't pay my bill for June in July. When i called to see why my bill is high they said they added the next month bill (July) that's do in August onto that bill so i won't get a bill for (July) since i'm paying( June & July) in August. I get a bill in (Sept) with the exact amount i already paid added on to my (August)bill making that bill double. I called again, they said i didn't pay my bill the month before which was a lie, i paid the double bill. Hurricane Harvey came and i turned my service off on the 7th of Sept. They billed me in (Oct) saying i have to pay for 1 day of service which was $36.00 and they took it out my deposit they owed me. I'm really frustrated; I have to pay a $25 NSF fee and multiple late fees, plus bank fees that could have been avoided. I received a past due notice earlier this month, even though I mailed my payment by check in plenty of time before the due date. I went through the hassle of stopping the check with my bank, and then wrote a new check with the total balance due they sent me. I was under the impression that the original check was lost or stolen, so I took proactive measures earlier this month to be certain they received my payment. Last night, January 29th, when I got home from work, I had a notice hanging on my door that my service would be stopped if I did not pay their NSF fee. I was to contact them by this Friday, February 1st. After calling them this morning, it seems there has been multiple misunderstandings. The did have the original payment I sent, they deposited it, after I stopped payment to reissue the new amount due, based on the findings of the delinquent notice they sent with the current bill, with my new cumulative total. They deposited the large cumulative check, and they also deposited the smaller original check. The bank rejected the original check that I put a stop to. This morning when I called them, thinking they would help me find a resolution, they didn't try to help at all. The woman I spoke with implied I need to pay the amount by Friday or my water would be cut off. I asked to speak with a manager and was told they would tell me the same thing. I have a family to take care of, and stopping my water when I have very clearly done everything I can to get their payment to them seems unreasonable to me. It seems like there is an issue within their system that is inhibiting payments to be applied in a timely manner. I want to pay my bills on time, and think I deserve to be treated better than this. I think I must pay the fee, because I will not let me family and children go without water. I now know how I will go about when I receive a past due notice from them, I will assume they just haven't applied the payment, I'll call them, and confirm I only pay the most recent amount. Regardless of how I can handle this differently, they handled this very poorly. I should NOT incur late fees when I have never been late, and I should NOT have to pay their NSF fees. I think they should take accountability for the way they handled this situation. I have always paid my bills on time, and this is no way to treat a loyal customer. Threatening to turn off my water seems unwarranted, and the inability of the workers to help me today infuriates me. I truly hope that they credit my account for all the late fees that I should never have incurred. I wish there was another provider I could use but I don't think that's an option for me. read more

Customer service is piss poor I've experienced way better.Personally I work in customer service and I know it is not always pleasant but this is your job and you chose it so the least you can do is be pleasant about dealing with customers regardless of what extra BS you may have going on around you. There has not been a time dealing with this company over the past year where I felt like I was given excellent or even mediocre customer service. The reps are extremely short and you get the impression they are irritated with you calling (it's a phone job, get over it). I have paid my bill online for 3 years the same way, with the same wording on it. All of a sudden, I get a past due bill. Threw me for a moment, but I spoke to someone in customer service and they said it might not have come in. Went to my bank and since I had time, and the money, I resent the payment just in case. Then the floods came. While working to help people in the community I forgot about it. Until today. Today I received a note in the mail saying they returned my checks and were cutting my water off! As I write this, my water is OFF as of today, apparently for another reason but I got this in the mail today and the website is acting weird, can't pay it online. After 3 years of not missing any payments, you would think during the storm when the mail is running a little slower, you could cash the check and send me a note telling me what it is I have to do next time.
