i came here for a second opinion to what my dealership had diagnosed for my car and estimate of labor and material. you would expect that local repair shops prices would be cheaper? yeah right lol i was quoted 375 for repairs and labor from my dealership and even after showing HAC what they estimated me for via paper.... why this place quoted me higher? lol that didnt make no sense... i paid 250 for diagnostic from my dealership and this place suggested i re-diagnose it and will charge me $245 lol i laughed sorry. so of course i took it back to dealership instead and got the job done and the dealership gave me a loaner car which i think HAC dont offer. In April I had my Jeep in this shop. Ended up spending 388 dollars for a corrosion cleaning kit for the battery cable. Now 6 months later I am having the same issue with my car and it has to be towed to another shop, they diagnose it as the same issue corroded cable, they clean it for 100 dollars! I am not sure what the extra cost is for at Hayward auto care was for but it didn't seem to be a very good repair. For the money I spent here the cable should been replaced!! read more

I can see why they have great reviews. Ken used to work at the Honda dealer, so he knows his stuff. He is also open on Sundays. My car broke down on Saturday and I was able to get in on Sunday. He saved me from ruining my engine, my other mechanic in Castro valley didn't see that a hose needed to be repaired. I also fixed my windshield and got me a good deal. Recently went here to replace my rack and pinion and as soon as I get there my power steering pump explodes on its self and to my surprise they replaced the pump free of charge!!! These guys are fantastic. I was buying a used car in the area and brought it in for inspection; they saved me a bundle of money when they realized this used car needed a new head gasket! I'd test driven the car and everything seemed to work fine, so I really needed their inspection to help me. So I walked away from car 1, content and knowing that I'd saved at least a thousand dollars by getting it inspected from these guys. So the next time I saw a car I liked, I brought it into these guys. The guy put it up on the lift and looked under for an oil leak within the first five minutes - free of charge - to make sure I wouldn't be suckered like I was last time. No leaks! So then he took the car for his full 2-hour inspection routine. He gave me a list of small problems - I needed new windshield wipers, new air filter, the tires needed rotating, and mostly, I needed new back brakes. He told me how much I could negotiate for these repairs and said that this car would last me for years if I bought it. I bought it! And I've been driving it around for a week. Yesterday I took the car into my mechanic (who is much closer to my home) and had him work the repairs; he looked the car over and agreed with these guys' diagnosis. Very happy with this mechanic; a trustworthy mechanic makes buying a used car way easier! read more

After searching for a STAR smog station in Hayward, I called 10 different places looking for a reasonable price for a smog test. Not sure why the cost varies so much, but when I called Hayward Auto Care, they had the most reasonable price ($50 after a coupon was applied). I waited, it passed and had a great conversation with Ken. He told me my 14-year-old car is in great condition and he knew I would pass based on the smell. If he didn't like the way it smelled, he told me, he would have not tested it. I've been to smog stations before where they just test, tell you your car failed and take your money, so I really appreciate him being so honest. He was very believable, and I would definitely take my car back for any repair work. read more

I brought in my 2004 Honda Civic and left it with Ken so he could locate and fix the squeaking sound my car was making while turning. After 2 hrs, he called me for the estimate. The sound was coming from a crack in my steering column. He assured me that it was purely cosmetic and would cost approx $400 to fix. We decided to hold off on that for now. Instead.... he fixed the cracked strut whose sound I hadn't noticed until he mentioned it! He added that there was still life left in the other strut but I decided to replace them both at the same time. When I showed up to pickup my car, he took the time to explain other areas I should keep an eye on and even showed me the broken strut. I've lived on Mission Blvd (notorious for it's abundance of car dealerships & repair shops) all my life & I'm upset I didn't find Hayward Auto Care sooner. No matter who is assisting you, whether it be Ken, Wendy or Bill you'll be in good hands. My '01 Jaguar didn't pass it's smog test, Ken ran some tests & told me to simply drive it for 200 miles (it could just be a misread within my car) & come back in 3 days. Sure enough it passed & he didn't charge me for a retest. I appreciate the honesty & integrity at this location. I know nothing about cars and could have been bamboozled into paying extra for work that didn't need to be done. They also let me charge my iPhone while waiting in the office, it's a small act of kindness but I get extremely anxious when my phone is dead. My brakes were making a weird noise but only every once in a while. I was nervous because my car is only a little over a year old so I started calling around. This was the only place that was able to get me in on a Saturday. And I'm so thankful it was them! I brought it in around 1pm, and they said it wouldn't be for another hour until they could look. I didn't have a way to get home so Ken's wife offered to drive me home. They went above and beyond to help me out and so I left my car there and exactly an hour later they called me letting me know that although nothing was wrong with the brakes it was just some wear from going up and down hills, that they wanted to do the 30,000 mile tune up. and offered to do it for the 15% BC I had mentioned I found them on yelp. 2 hours later they called and my car was ready to go. For all new filters, brake fluid, oil change, brake inspection, car wash =) cost 350.00$. Although it was more money then I wanted to spend my car is running as good as it was when I first drove it off the car lot. And it was so nice to find friendly service so close to home! Gave this shop a call to make an appointment to replace my 2013 audi A5s headlight bulb on my day off. I dropped it off at 10 and picked it up at 2pm al fixed up! I took my 2007 Toyota Yaris here based on the reviews I read from other customers. I am very happy that I decided to trust my repair to HAC. I was dealing with a cracked flex plate that may have been compromised when the Toyota dealership replaced my transmission a few years ago. I hesitated taking my car back to the dealership because I did not want to risk further problems, so after calling HAC and after speaking with Kenneth, I could tell he was knowledgeable and had insight into how dealerships do repairs. When I picked up my car when the repair was complete, Kenneth gave me my broken flex plate and explained how it worked and that luckily it did not do further damage to my transmission. I am happy to have found a fair, reliable and honest repair shop that will now get my business. My car is running great and I appreciate my car even more. :) p.s. When I was there they told me they are moving down Mission Street near the Toyota dealership in a former Midas shop that will have more repair bays. Great news for existing and new customers. This place is great! My car had died on me Saturday night and I had my insurance company come out and try to jump start my car. The guy clearly didn't know what he was doing. So I called my insurance co in the morning and asked for a tow truck to come and bring my car here since it was the only place open on a Sunday in my area! He brought it there and immediately I got great customer service. He checked my car charge system and advised that I just need to replace the battery. They had one in stock and it took only 20mins! i was out of there in no time and was able to go about my day. Excellent service. I took my car in for a tune up and an issue with a noise in the rear end and got so much more. They gave me a real time frame that i would have my car back by, its hard to be without a car especially when you have kids so having the vehicle back when they said i would have it, was awesome. So earlier this week smoke started to come out of my car on my way homw from school. Luckily, I was a block away from home. I parked my car and waited until I had time on to take it to a shop on the weekend. I looked at my car and knew my radiator was busted from all the green coolant around my engine. I was hesitant to drive it very far and looked for a good repair shop that was open on the weekends. I found this place, for which I am very happy. I took my car in early Saturday about 9:30 am and asked for a quote. Ken was very helpful and said it could be fixed by the end of the day. The price was about 700 for a radiator replacement, new hoses, and oem coolant. It seemed reasonable given that a few places I had previously called quoted a few extra hundred dollars. I have been coming here for years for my car, maintenance and repair. I was rear ended last year and took the car to a shop in UC for suspension repair, a referral from the body shop. My car was bouncing up and down on the freeway and at times felt like it was going to flip over or take flight. The car was returned to me 3 times as being fixed and 3 times it was not. The last straw was when the rear end dropped and hit the ground while driving on 880, After bringing my car to Hayward Auto Car, the issue was researched for my type of vehicle, the correct parts were ordered and the suspension problem was fixed. A couple of weeks ago, I brought my car to Hayward Auto Care for an oil change and SMOG check. To my surprise, my car was completed within an hour and I was out the door. Ken and Bill always take care of me. Customer service is priority and if service will take more than an hour or two and you live close, they will even make sure you get a ride home or to bart.
