They were perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the flavor was unreal. The balance of sweet heat and bold lemon pepper was spot on. Best wings I've had in atleast 5 years! If you live within 2-3hrs away it's worth the drive! Excellent service and just superior wings and sauces. Lots of sauce options. However, I will say that I was VERY satisfied with every bite! The wings are the perfect size, not too small, not too big/meaty. And they're tossed in the perfect amount of sauce. BUT, the fried Oreos might have been the best part. If you wait to order in person, be prepared to wait a while (it's worth it). Service was quick especially considering that everything is made to order. The cashier was great and answered our questions since this was our first time in. We got there about 30 minutes before close and they were all still friendly. The fries are traditional but great when hot. The portion sizes are expected for the price. The wings were crispy and a good size. I liked the buffalo with lemon pepper. The portion for the salmon nuggets were also good for the price. The wings were very overdone. The perfect wing is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. These wings were crispy on the outside, but dry and tough on the inside. The meat was clearly overdone. Wings: C+ The french fries were OK. I can tell they were seasoned with spice, maybe creole seasoning. But they are the soft floppy french fries, not the crispy on the outside french fries. Good. Not great, but good. French Fries: B The sauces were good. We got Honey BBQ, Bourbon, and Garlic Parmesan. Again, they were good. No artificial / transfat flavors. I liked them, but again, none of them really stood out to me. Sauces: B Now, if it were just the food, I'd probably rate the restaurant 3 stars ("OK") but even if the wings were halfway decent, which they weren't, I still wouldn't come back. Service was good, but slow. Ambiance was very nice. There's a pic of Miles Davis in the back, which is pretty awesome. It's a fun place to eat. While my family and I were waiting, a tatted up woman who looked strung out walked in with a baby pitbull. Two other people right at the door's entrance were walking some big dogs, and the pitbull started to attack the larger dogs. My wife and I ushered the kids into the back of the restaurant while the dogs went at it. I clearly heard the strung out woman yell "Any dog that barks at my dog is a dead dog!" When the fight subsided, my wife took the kids out and they waited in our car. Some other customers walked in that were clearly on something. Some where blitzed, some were mellow, others hyper. Just yuck. There's a church across the street, and I'm wondering if there's a methadone clinic nearby because there were a bunch of people walking around who had that look, if you get what I mean. So if the wings had been spectacular, or even just very good, we'd probably order in advanced and come back to pick the order up, and not wait in the restaurant. But the wings were just very meh. The meat was dry and somewhat tough, so I don't think we'll be back. Why do people rate the restaurant so highly? Two theories. One, wings are like pizza -- even bad wings are fun to eat, and you can overlook their quality because wings have to be VERY bad before someone refuses to eat them. Two, the place specializes in wings, and I think the expectation of a "hole in the wall" that specializes in wings is high, so when people eat the wings, they expect them to be good, so they're good. I do think if you gave any reviewer a wing from here and a good wing from NYC, the difference would be palpable. read more

We ate too fast to take a photo! These wings absolutely live up to their reputation and so does the service. It seems like every time I am trying to grab these famous wings, they're closed but I finally managed to swing by during their open hours and man was it worth it! They offer so many flavors! They also allow you to split your flavors AND pay extra for only drums or flats (my preference being flats) plus add extra sauce for when you're heating up your leftovers in the air fryer. (This time there was no need because I absolutely DESTROYED my wings! I can't wait to return for all the rest of the flavors. I had XXHot and that wasn't spicy for my so I'm hoping atomic will be. I am from Atlanta and so is my friend. If you don't know, people from Atlanta do not play about our wings. We were craving some and decided to give this place a chance after seeing it a few times. There were so many flavors to choose from but we settled on Honey Lemon Pepper for me and Hot Honey and Garlic Parmesan Wet for her. It was about a 30 min wait close to close but our food was hot and ready for us for pickup. We were shocked and delighted to see other people like us in this establishment, waiting for their food. It seemed like a family, which is always good for business. It gave me a sense of comfort when we arrived. The wings were fresh and all the flavors were unique. I enjoyed my wings and tried the garlic parm, which was very tasty. I heard the Hoy Honey had a good kick to it for all you, spice lovers. I wish I had a Dry/Wet option for my Honey Lemon Pepper wings and I wished we both had more fries. I will say the lack of fries might have been due to us ordering before close. Hopefully, next time we can get more fries but I will definitely come back. These really might be "THe Best Wings in AVL"! read more

I heard about Haywood Lounge from my barber so I made it a point to stop there. My gf had bbq wings and parm garlic (the wet, not dry rub) and holy **** the parm garlic was amazing! I tried to steal all of her parm garlic but alas, she wouldn't allow it :( I had the hot wings which were also very good. The chicken flavor was so good on most that you didn't even need ranch. It was just such good quality wings. The only reason I needed ranch was to cool down the spice level but the others didn't need it. The guy working there was super friendly and there was an onslaught of to-go orders while we dined in around lunch time. If you make a trip to Asheville and you love wings, this place is a MUST stop! Very good wings and lots of charm -- a family-run place. The restaurant was unfortunately down a fryer on our visit, but they pulled through and still served some delicious wings! We had 14 wings (sweet chili and golden bbq) and 4 tenders (no fries; hot teriyaki sauce). The wings were a good balance of flats and drums with perfectly fried moist meat and super-crispy skin. The tenders were juicy and a bit thickly breaded. Both types were generously sauced - a little *too* saucy for me, but that is a personal preference - I will ask for a lighter hand next time. Hot teriyaki was intensely salty, as if it had over-reduced a bit. Ranch and blue cheese dressings were yummy and abundant, celery was crisp and crunchy, and plenty of paper towels and wet-naps were at hand. We both got sides of cole slaw which seemed freshly made; it was a little sweet for my tastes but still well done. Service was adorable (owner's kids?) and eager to please. The interior is a little run-down but don't let that deter you. Looking forward to our next visit to try their classic hot wings. read more

Hands down the best wings I've ever had! Seriously it's worth the wait to eat these wings and the server was extremely helpful and nice! Ask for the honey lemon pepper (not on the menu) wings, I could probably eat those all day long! It's a 4/5 because they're understaffed, understocked on some items, and it's not the greatest environment (a little dumpy, scare seating options and no one operating the bar). It could have just been that day though, I will definitely go back and edit this if things are different and that day was a fluke. I'm very particular about my wings. The skin needs to be crispy and there needs to be a good skin to chicken ratio along with a flavorful sauce of course. This place checks all the boxes. Chicken is of good quality. There are many sauce flavors to choose from. We got the hot (nice heat and typical buffalo flavor) as well as the parm garlic wet. Both were nice and flavorful. Wings were not soaking in sauce which was nice because it kept the skin from getting soggy. We got fries (good seasoning, nice crisp cook), mac and cheese bites (better than most that I've had) and corn nuggets (mmmm). Overall a very good meal and a nice value all prepared by super nice people. Really enjoyed this place. Such a gem in west Asheville. Will be back. read more
