The staff at the Barrelhouse is great. From the time we arrived until a few hours later when we left, our party was treated wonderfully. Big kudos to the two young ladies running the front of the house! The Barrelhouse has a decent menu with some bar food standards and some surprised. We ordered the fried deviled eggs (definitely recommend) and the cheddar and onion perogies (also recommend). The garlic parmesan wings were crispy and flavorful. The fries and sandwiches were ok. We were very impressed with The Barrelhouse. Upon arriving it looked like a "locals only" spot, which I love. We opted to dine here due to its late kitchen hours. I am glad we gave it a try! I ordered up one of the many tap options- The Raspberry Creamsicle. It was smooth & a bit dry, my favorite! He chose the sweet pear cider. He loved it. I chose the fried deviled eggs as an appetizer- they were so crunchy & delicious, served atop a bed of deviled egg filling. I chose the cherry bbq wings & some hand cut fries for my entree. It was the perfect compliment to my drink & appetizer. The menu is simple, I would love to come back here again and try some other goodies on the menu! read more

First time here and this place is great! we had asked if the lentil soup was available and sadly they had ran out, but right away they had offered to make up a new batch just for us. They were so polite and warm welcoming definitely coming back to this spot. You can tell this is a family run business which makes me feel great spending my money here. I come here pretty regularly as it is close by my home. Staff are always accommodating, kind, and fast with drinks and food orders. I came here with a friend yesterday and Brandon was amazing. He said it was just first day and he was wonderful. We only got fries to snack on but they were perfect and rinks were very tasty as well. Thank goodness for this place! The family and I spent Christmas out this way and, of course 99% of all the businesses are closed on Christmas Day (as they should be). We found Barrelhouse via an Asheville site listing it as one of the few restaurants open that day. This place is small but is comfortably laid out whether you chose table/booth service or bar seating. I found the lighting to be a bit dim, but it is a bar-ish restaurant. My Gen-Z girls said it had a good vibe, which I guess means cool in the Gen-X lexicon. Either way the place was clean and the decor was funky and fun. My wife ordered a patty melt and said she found it to be a bit dry. It was served on a big bun, which doesn't fit the norm of grilled rye bread I've seen on every other patty melt I've ever ordered. My eldest ordered the dirty bird sandwich and also said the meat was on the dry side. Both of them stated the sandwiches tasted fine otherwise. My youngest ordered the classic burger and thought it was good, but nothing special. I ordered the Ricky Bobby, which is a cheese steak sort of sandwich, and I really enjoyed it! Their fries are very good, so I suggest you ditch the Doritos and get them instead. Now for the most impressive part, the service. I cannot say what their norm is but they opened promptly at six pm. We saw only two people working, a man who stayed behind the bar, primarily, and a woman who went into overdrive the moment everyone sat down. There are five large tables in the middle of the room and an equal number of booths and she has them all! We were served water immediately and our refill flask was never empty long! It did take a bit of time to get our order in and out to our table, but considering it was a holiday and they were obviously running a skeleton crew, it was not unreasonable. In any case, the staff was very kind and worked super hard to get everyone served. If you are in Asheville, give them a try! I would have rated them at 5 stars had the two sandwiches not been dry, but again they were still tasty. They appeared to have a great craft beer selection, not surprising given the fact they are in Asheville. Unfortunately, due to COVID (is anyone else sick of that phrase too?), my senses of taste and smell are still screwed up so all beer tastes the same and I didn't try any. Maybe next time. We went here for late dinner last night. 1 I love that they serve late as we are late eaters and 2 this place is so cool. We found this place cause hubby wanter pierogi. This place is a cool little place with a variety of in-hse made food from pierogi, burgers, deep fried deviled eggs (what???) And other sandwiches. Everything was really good. We had wings, brussel sprouts and pierogi's and it was all excellent. The rogi you have a choice of sautéed or fried SO good The wings were meaty and well cooked. No pictures cause it was too dark. I would like to write another review for a complete sit down experience. Honestly, I've delivered food for a job and I have yet to have a proper sit down here. Cocktails look good, the staff seems friendly and it's certainly worth getting over here one of these nights when I'm not busy with my wife. My five star review is for takeout only, one word pierogies I tried both kinds. They were delicious. Thank you for making pierogies. They made me happy. I added mustard instead of the sour cream that came with. I got enough to share with my wife. They didn't even make it back to the interstate.. I will have to come back. We found this online and liked the sound of the menu so and we came out here to try it out on a quiet Saturday afternoon. We got the Joe Rogan, Brown Sugar Bacon BLT, Hand cut fries, special pierogi with sauerkraut then sautéed with caramelized onions, and ginger beer and jun grape fermented beverages They split the burger for us which was super nice! It was delicious. Moist, flavorful (you could taste the beef), and the bread was proportionate and perfect. Not super heavy at all. The fries were served with their special sauce and we very well done, not overly cooked well done but made very well. The pierogi was fantastic! A lot of fun to go eat pierogis somewhere since we never do. The BLT was great also. Perfectly toasted, sweet, Smokey and salty. The tomato was also beautiful and red, even in almost January. I love that they support local and have a ton of local beverages and brews to choose from. The bathrooms were clean as well as the establishment. The server, bartender all in one was great! Very sweet, fitting for the establishment and so helpful. She's a keeper for sure. She made it such a pleasant experience! We will definitely be back. Very low key burger joint on Merrimon north of Beaver Lake. It has a divey vibe. Service was friendly and both burgers were delicious. The burgers come with Doritos but you can sub them for fries. Disclaimer: this rating is based entirely on one takeout order that I picked up tonight. I spotted The Barrelhouse on Yelp while trying to figure out dinner. Decided I wanted the mushroom steak sandwich and called in my order. They were friendly and pointed out that sandwiches came with a bag of Doritos or I could upgrade to fries. I chose the upgrade (to be honest the sandwich would have been good with Doritos). The sandwich itself was as advertised on the menu and was really tasty. The fries were good solid thick cut pub fries, they complimented the sandwich nicely. The inside of the place has a divey feel in a good way with a decent list of microbrew offerings on a wall for those interested in partaking. Pickup was quick and easy. Wowsers! Can't judge a book by its cover nor can you judge Barrel House by first peek inside the door. Small seating area with a bar. The place was basically empty when we came in for a late lunch but I imagine it can get loud and packed pretty quickly late nights. Service: Incredible. Our server was top notch. She brought us water in a cool Bourbon bottle and brought our beer right away. No lack of service or smiles here. Food: I am stuffed. Rarely do I rave about my lunch. This day was an exception. We both had the special, a grilled chicken and bacon sandwich with shredded lettuce and tomato topped with a Dijon and ranch mix with a side of fries. It was *amazing* and I mean I ate all of it. No lady like lingering here. Menu: Shorter on choices than I prefer but we ordered the special so really who cares. Burgers, apps, fries and Doritos. Yes, Doritos are a side for the burgers and a base for nachos. Beer selection: Good enough for me. Not a huge list but features the favorite beer and cider choices. Would I go back? Yes. Yes I would. When the menu says over a bed of fries that's what they mean, the wings were on top of 5 fries max. The fries were different. Like they were edible but were not good. How do you mess up on fries??? The Brussels sprouts were really good and had the perfect crunch and flavor! I was shocked because you wouldn't think a place like this would even serve Brussels sprouts. As for the wings and deviled eggs... i honestly don't know how they were because I ended up not trying either but if I'm ever back in Asheville that would be a spot I would only go to if there was nothing else to eat. BLUF: amazing food and service; not totally sure if it's good for kids. We were in town for the weekend and originally had plans to eat somewhere else that I picked out. My husband took it upon himself to scrap the plans I made because he "didn't want to park downtown". When we pulled up to this place I was PISSED and was prepping myself for a big ole fight with my dear husband because this place looks like a straight up bar that happens to have a kitchen and we had a 1 year old and 6 year old with us. The odd thing about the food was, it came with Doritos. Not even a lot of Doritos. Next time leave the Doritos off the plate or give an ample amount. The interior was bizarre. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and bar menu complete with unique specialty perogies made in house daily! We stopped in after a YELP search for late night food in North Asheville/Woodfin. It was Wednesday around 9:30pm and were greeted immediately and within 2 minutes of selecting our window booth we had menus and drink orders placed. Ordered shepards pie stuffed button mushroom special, fried brussel sprouts, nachos, carolina gold & buffalo wings. I would order everything again except the nachos that had that scary yellow proceeded cheese sauce they serve at every youth ballpark concession stand. They feature local drafts and interesting craft cocktails. The space is cozy and ideal for watching sports in a fun but very laid back environment. I happened to pick up a Groupon (one of the only restaurants ones in Avl offering a Groupon at the time) which allowed me to get $20 worth of food. We ended up getting an ice tea (amazing), pierogies (amazing), brussel sprouts (great) and a Brown Sugar BLT w/ fries (also fantastic). WOAH! Hidden gem! As others have said, seeing this place from the outside, you would never even know there is a bar, let alone a place with killer food! When we pulled up, I wasn't even sure we were at the right place!? Tons of draft beer on tap, with a great selection. I had a currant sour that was excellent! My wife always judges a place by their Iced Tea, and this place was legit! Lol We were starving on our way into Asheville, and I began to look for a place to eat when I came across "handmade perogies." SOLD! This place was amazing. The perogies were like my grandma and dad used to make! Served with sour cream and sautéed! YUM!
