I can't thank Ryan enough for his helpfulness, integrity and honesty, I had an asbestos scare in my HVAC closet and after reaching out to many specialists, Ryan spent over 30 minutes on the phone with me helping me assess potential issues with the pictures I was sharing. It turns out a simple fix with metallic tape took care of the solution, but he was the ONLY provider I reached out to who was willing to assess the situation first over the phone so as to avoid an expensive in-home visit and assessment. When I first called HMA for pricing on testing our popcorn ceiling for asbestos, I really appreciate that their immediate question was: Do you want to do this the cheap way or the expensive way? They then explained in great detail exactly how to do it the cheap way, while reassuring us that it was safe. We were therefore able to save money, which is great when you're about to spend thousands of dollars to remove all that popcorn! My fianceé and I were in need of asbestos testing for old ceiling tiles we wanted to remove in our newly purchased home. Unfortunately, we were in such a time crunch because we had to be out of our apartment the following week. I contacted Ryan the manager via Yelp, and received a response within minutes. He provided me with all the formation I needed to get the testing done ASAP. I was able to drop off samples the following day right when they opened and received the results the next day before closing. Results typically take 48 hours to process but luckily their testing moved quicker than we all expected. (It's 3 weeks later and some are STILL contacting me smh). If you are looking for someone to test for environmental hazards in your home such as asbestos and lead, I truly can't recommend HMA enough. Ryan with HMA was incredibly patient and kind in explaining how dangerous (or not) various materials could be, doing a walk through of my entire home and identifying potential hazards as well as recommending what materials to test, and then spending a lot of time afterwards answering my multiple phone calls and emails with tons of questions. When we discovered some asbestos tape in our boot registers, Ryan also talked me through what I needed to do about it, and even got on the phone with an abatement contractor to tell them what needed to be done. I am a first time home owner of a very old home, so Ryan gave my husband and I a lot of peace of mind in knowing exactly how to remove or manage the hazardous materials in our home. I needed some tiles from my kitchen tested for asbestos. I had some samples and did not feel like hassling with mailing them. I found these guys by dinking around on the web. I called and was able to deliver the samples directly. They were very patient with me (I got lost trying to find them - it's in an odd location) and very pleasant in squiring me to their office. Normally, they do building inspections for hazardous materials. (I noticed blueprints for larger buildings on a table. ) However, they also accept samples from members of the public for testing for a fee. Because they send in so many samples to the labs, they get a discount on testing, and will pass that savings along. I paid 70 bucks to have two samples analysed. (I just did this today, btw.) I thought it was really nice of them to do that for random folks. Bonus is that the guy who runs the place is a Terry Pratchett fan. I recently put out bids to redo my attic insulation and one of the three contractors that put in a bid advised I needed to get my old insulation tested for vermiculite asbestos. I thought it was odd that only 1 of the 3 was concerned about it, especially since in my opinion the material in my attic looked nothing like the photos of vermiculite I saw online. I decided to consult with Ryan who was upfront, honest, and very communicative. Based on my description he was pretty sure it wasn't vermiculite, but had me send over some photos to double check. He confirmed that the photos I sent looked nothing like vermiculite and that testing was unnecessary. This saved me hundreds of dollars of unnecessary testing fees, and despite Ryan not making one penny of this consultation, his honesty and straightforwardness spoke for itself. This is the guy you want in your corner when you are trying to manage the sometimes scary experience of asbestos remediation in your home! Having him as an unbiased player when I was in tense discussion/negotiations with an environmental remediation companies was immensely reassuring. He helped me make the best informed decision to keep my home and family safe. We hired Ryan to test our house and crawlspace for asbestos. We were in the midst of a very confusing and scary time trying to remediate old asbestos from the ducting in our crawlspace that had been partially destroyed and degraded over time. Ryan's technical knowledge and thourough approach to reviewing our house was top notch. He also did not require air sampling tests (some testing companies have minimum of 3 TEM tests per visit and ~200 a pop, that adds up). Ryan said that we really only needed one to rule out a problem and if we failed that test, we might need more. He also explained a lot of how the remediation industry works, contractors, regulators, testers the whole shabang, so that I could understand why contractors were acting in ways that did not make sense to me at all!
