I make a trip to HCK every time I visit Greenville. The quality never disappoints and the service is always so friendly. I'm not the biggest spice person but I do like a little heat. The base option at HCK is the perfect amount of spice when you don't want an overload! I also usually don't like crinkle cut fries but HCK actually lets them get fried, they are not a soggy mess lol. Consistently came up on lists of food to try, so we had to try it I was a little surprised by the cost because it didn't seem as good of a value as other places where you get an entree and a side, but we ordered a couple chicken strips and a couple chicken sandwiches. We ordered delivery and I will say, it came pretty fast though we do live close by. That chicken sandwich. SO good!! I was a little leery at first, but wow! I'm glad we did country style because I do think it might've been soggy had we gotten sauce and then delivery, but it was fresh and hot! Our kids can be a little picky with chicken strips, but even they really liked these! Probably not a regular stop for us as it is a little pricey, but totally worth it. Having tried Nash Hot Chicken downtown and paying more for a substandard product, I decided to try HKC Chicken in the parking lot for Fresh Market. For $8.99 the quality and the heat of the product is on point. At Nash I was so dissapointed with the heat. They only offer two levels and even the second level was nothing to me. And that's not me being macho. It literally did not register more than than Wedny's Spicy Nuggets. It was that sad. With HKC it was hot enough I took a ten minute break to shop before attempting to re-approach my sandwich. The atmosphere isn't great. It's the old Which Wich. The spicy heat selections are 1 - Virgin to 4 - Atomic, so I went with 2. I thought 2 was the perfect level if you want hot, but not crazy. My husband had level 3 and it was very hot. Excellent establishment. Saw this place on the way to winterville and it was terrific. This place reminded me of a classic chicken shop, an elevated chick fil a. The service was nice fast and helpful. Inside though the music was a little loud and the outside was a little non descript in a random parking lot. The price was worth for the amount of food $15 for each pictured. If this location was in a a more walkable place I think it would be really draw people in and have a lot of culture. As a child, I experienced immense freedom while under the oppressive humidity of the American South. At a young age you discount the discomfort that is brought about during those warm months. However as an adult, the discomfort lingers and indeed grows like a festering sore upon parched skin. So too does the food from this establishment. The after taste lingers. The sting of the price dwells uncomfortably in ones mind and wallet. To take a trend raised in the ever noble South and display it such as they have done is a disservice. While edible, and will scratch a certain curious itch, one will do well to seek heat and bold intensity elsewhere. Much like the hot humid summers that color my youth, so too does this place color my bias against the hot chicken trend. Lastly, the name is a little misleading, for the chicken is far from hot. I've been excited (and nervous) for the opening of this new restaurant for months. Excited, because I love excellent hot chicken and nervous, hoping it would live up to my unusually high standards for restaurants. I went opening day and I will tell you it certainly is excellent! The location is fantastic and parking is ample. I had ordered ahead so as to avoid the lines. I was greeted when I walked in and was surprised that given the crowds, my order was ready ahead of the promised time. I ordered both the chicken sandwich as well as the tenders both with the Angry Hot sauce. In addition, I ordered fries and Mac and cheese. The chicken was delicious and the sauce wasn't overbearingly hot. The fries were hands down the best I've had in a long time. I loved the Mac and cheese as well. I went back today and was pleased to find the food just as delicious! I'm extremely happy with the customer service here.
