We felt the value for amount of food was great, and I loved that they included smaller containers of most, if not all, of their sauces so we could try them! The corn bread was great, a couple pieces were pretty dark but still warm and fresh. The baked beans, for me, was a highlight! They were so good, whatever sauce they're cooked in was SO good, I ended up dipping my pulled pork/ brisket into that instead of the sauces!! So good!!! Our kids liked the Mac n cheese, we thought it was pretty good too! Loved that the pulled pork came with no sauce, made it super easy to portion it out for my husband and keep it fresh. Thee brisket came sauced, but the flavor was really good so we were fine with that! Overall, we'd definitely do this once in a while. It was about $90 total for the family meal, which is a little steep for a regular family meal. But flavor was great, everything was fresh, and we very much enjoyed it and will have leftovers for days!!

They make them all in house. I've never added vinegar to my meat before and I'm hooked. They have this Alabama white sauce that you have to ask for and that was done so well. All the sauces were tasty. I tried their sweet tea and I'm very particular about sweetness with drinks but I thoroughly enjoyed the balance in their tea. The seasonal treat is strawberry shortcake so I ordered that and there was so much balance in their flavor. I'm partial to strawberry shortcake because it was what I often shared with my late Grandpa. I was so impressed with how good this was and it definitely added nostalgia to the experience. The service here was phenomenal and the place has so much memorabilia honoring service members. Very open and welcoming space. Lots to take in, but not overwhelming. I'm definitely glad we stopped in. 10/10 recommend if you're in the area.

The buffet food offered country-cooking foods with a variety of selections.  We liked the atmosphere and food so much that we drove about 2 hours round trip to just eat at The Hitchin Post. We took a break for several months then recently returned to learn that there was a new owner. We didn't recognize any of the staff. We were told by our server that the owners were making some positive changes. OK, we thought, we will give it a chance.   Today we arrived on Sunday again and we were so disappointed. First off, the music was blaring (saying a lot coming from a person with a hearing loss!) with pop music which is disconcerting in a western-themed, country restaurant. We nicely mentioned the loud music to our server but nothing was done.  And, no I am not some ornery codger who hates contemporary music.  But who the heck wants their eardrums punctured early on Sunday morning?  The Hitchin Post is usually busy on Sundays at this time, but there were few customers today. I would not be surprised if other regulars are unhappy also.  The fried chicken, cornbread, rolls are still good. Overall, the food quality has also gone downhill - definitely not enough vegetable choices.   Plus, no one should ever mix butterbeans and corn together.  My gosh, the cake slices are so small, close to paper-thin and not tasty to boot. Sadly, we won't be returning. I hope the new owners can turn this around before they lose more regulars.

The chicken strips are so good and again, it comes with SOO many!! Sometimes they're slightly soft but we reheat them in the air fryer for a few mins and they last for days!! Quite a few options for sides and good portions. Will update if we eat inside or try other items, but as of now we get the critter meal when we're coming home from the beach or a super busy weekend and it's perfect!

Really nice surprises. - Daily NC Catch (Trout): Very good. Trout was just as perfect as can be with a nice crispy sear on the skin, and meat was still tender. The risotto underneath was good, but a bit over-seasoned. Service was incredible. The server was interactive, fun, attentive and doing a masterful job of single-handedly managing a table of over 12 people, which is never easy. Overall, a great meal. We started with 1/2 dozen oysters (delicious) and an order of Pickled Things (really large enough for 4). For entrees we had the steak special (perfectly cooked but inexplicably didn't include any accompanying sides) and the fish special that included bouillabaisse in the description but was really a bed of flavored rice (good but a little too much vinegar). While waiting, I noticed two local things - the stage for the ECU Pirate Radio show, which airs live at this location on Mondays, and just a few tables away from me WNCT's Sportscaster legend Brian Bailey! We got home and were shocked to see the $6 kids meal was 6 very overcooked mini corn dogs and an applesauce and 6 Mac bites and an applesauce. Did not seem like a good value when comparing to other places kids meals (like jaggers). The Buffalo chicken wrap was okay, kind of soggy, and I questioned why there would be grilled onions and cheese in a Buffalo chicken wrap vs like lettuce/ tomato, and the fries were soft. My husband said the burger was also okay, not great. Thankfully we stopped at jaggers on the way home to pick up some sides of mac n cheese and fruit for the kids, but for the price I don't see us going back anytime soon.
