I was recommended this vet location by a friend of mine. I was able to make an appointment easily and quickly on their website for my senior dog. The lobby and rooms are decorated very beautifully with an interesting layout, definitely not giving the typical vet office vibe. I read on their site that this is intentional: "Most importantly, we believe that veterinary care shouldn't be something that pets dread. Everything we do - from the layout of our facility to the way our staff interacts with patients - is designed to reduce fear, stress, and anxiety." My dog gets quite nervous at the vet and will often hide under the seat or just be frozen in fear and shake. He was anxious upon arrival and while waiting for our vet in the room, but after a little while, he did walk around the room to explore and look through the glass windows, which was nice because it meant he was becoming slightly more comfortable. The vet technicians were very gentle when handling him. The techs and Dr. Dumas were so kind and informative when answering all my questions. They took him to the back to do his tests and when returned back to the room with me, he was willing to walk around more and even eat a treat, which he usually will never do at the vet. The staff here are really great and I love that they also checked in with us via their texting service after the appointment and have continued to do so after some of his follow up procedures that were done at a different location. They are very responsive and have made this entire process of getting test results, booking follow up appointments, etc. easy along the way. Yes, they are not the cheapest vet around but I was willing to pay more for an exceptionally good vet experience for my dog. Thank you so much to the HEAL team! read more

Do not go here. During a full and very expensive exam, they completely missed our dog's heart murmur--something that should not have been overlooked. We also had to repeatedly tell them she could not receive vaccines, and they failed to listen. This level of negligence is unacceptable. I strongly urge you to go elsewhere. read more

I have a 9 year old beardie that my boyfriend and I found in a park in a shoebox. We've been on the search for a knowledgable and affordable vet that wasn't half way across the world for him since. I was recommended to HEAL by one of the owners in a pet shop we frequent. I was super nervous and anxious before and during my first visit because this is the first time I was bringing a pet to a vet and I had a number of concerns about my beardie. Those feelings eventually went away because the staff at the office were calm, friendly, knowledgeable, and so so patient with me and my beardie. They answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns. Every charge was explained to me and recommendations for further exams were made but I was not pressured into having them done. My beardie doesn't particularly like being handled by people he is unfamiliar with (he gets very jittery and will run off to hide). He was fidgety and did try to wiggle away from the tech when I placed him into her arms but he quickly calmed down though he did stare at me as he was carried into the exam room. He was calm when the tech brought him back out and I was told that he was calm during the exam. I was fairly surprised when he actually didn't want to let go of her when she handed him back to me. The staff at HEAL continued to check up on my beardie after the exam to make sure that he was ok. I appreciate the follow up. This Mobile service is amazing. So much easier than trying to get my cats into their carriers and lugging them to another location. I loved setting up my appointment online. Jonathan, the nurse, arrived first to do the preliminary work. He was so easy going and caring to my cats who immediately got under the bed. He wasn't bothered and worked where they were hiding. He's very organized when it came to the paperwork too. Dr.Atkinson arrived a few minutes later to give them their shots and exams. She charmed them immediately. I appreciated how thorough the exam was and how she explained each step to me. We talked about a treatment plan, and unlike other bets I spoke with, she wasn't all about the upsell. My Update is just that Dr.Atkinson is truly the BEST VET I've ever had!! We've been back multiple times since my first review for shots or tummy problems on my now 2 yr old pug Mazzy, and everytime my dog is so beyond crazy happy to see her she can't stop spinning around or trying to kiss her or sit in her lap!! They always are super transparent and fair w pricing which is rare in my other experiences. I wish I could of taken my other past dogs here! We may be moving to the West Coast and today May have been our last visit here and it really genuinely makes me sad to think how much I will miss this place and Dr.Atkinson specifically. I even thought hmm maybe when I'm back out here for work I can bring Mazzy for her checkups. I just can't sing Heal's praises enough! So happy I found this place! Took my 8yr old pom over here for a growth that developed under his eye. Turns out it was periodontal disease/ tooth infection, which meant a round of antibiotics and surgery to remove the diseased tooth. They were extremely transparent about the price, and even called me during his surgery to ask if it was okay to take out other teeth that they detected disease in! They estimate they gave me was exactly correct, zero surprises. They also truly care about your pets. They make my anxious drama queen senior dog feel at ease. The place is extremely clean and has a comforting aesthetic. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone with a dog! Bonus points that it's a female owned business. I'm writing this review as I wait for my health certificate to be able to travel with Winston our frenchie. People are always nice, but this place always over charges you, we've never left without paying at least $300 (and usually more like $500). All other vets we've been to, charge you between $130 - $150 for the health certificate, here they charge you $140 for the health certificate, plus $100 for the "exam" which lasted less than 60 seconds. Look for another vet that actually cares about dogs, and not just about making money. read more

Today I had my first house call with Dr. Dumas and her team from HEAL Veterinary. I chose them because they also have a full service clinic for things that can't be done in my home. But I wanted a vet who would come to me for the routine things. I have two VERY nervous cats, who were adopted as feral cats from the streets. Typically the only people they will allow to pet them are me and my long time cat sitter. My girl cat in particular is very skittish, and I still can't pick her up after having her for 5 years. The team from HEAL came in, dealt with both of my cats SO gently, and got everything done with no muss or fuss. What was most telling to me was that AFTER the exam, my girl cat, rather than running to hide, sat calmly in the windowsill and let Dr. Dumas pet her. I've never seen anything like it! They are not the least expensive vet you will find. If your focus in your pet care is price, they might not be the vet for you. But for my cats, I would rather have the right care than the cheapest care. I am happy to pay for such incredible care, even the premium for the house call service, which is a life saver! I have a 9+ year old pit bull. She is my precious pup and I always want to give her the best care possible. She is the 3rd dog I have had in my life. COVID radically changed vet care, making it very difficult to find a provider who would met my standards and my pup's needs. I switched to HEAL this May because I was looking for a vet who would allow me to be in the examination room and would also give my pup the best care at the best price. I just adopted my very first puppy and was nervous about our first vet experience. Fortunately, it was fantastic! The staff were all both extremely professional and friendly, and Dr. Dumas, in particular, has such a way with animals, as you can see by all of her interactions with them and how extremely well behaved and cooperative Riley (my pup) was throughout her visit. Communication was stellar and prescriptions and recommendations were emailed instantly. Whatever platform they use to schedule appointments and follow-ups as well as how to obtain recommended prescriptions or other routine healthcare items is phenomenal as well. For being a first-time dog mom, I expected it all to seem very overwhelming but they made everything go so easily and I could not be more appreciative. They are very kind and responsive and the space is absolutely gorgeous and clean/well kept as well. I am truly grateful to have the team at HEAL caring for my pup and highly recommend them! I cannot recommend HEAL Veterinary Hospital enough! PS. A commute from the upper east side to there was SUPER easy (it's a 2-minute straight-line walk from the F train!), but they also offer concierge services where they come pick up your pet and bring them to the office! read more

I took our newly adopted bunny there and everyone was very nice, but the staff wasn't as knowledgeable as I hoped about rabbits. When our bunny was weighed, he was grabbed by the scruff. I was shocked and asked if that was alright. I was told that's how female bunnies handle their young which is false. In fact, our bunny could have seriously injured himself. The following week, I had to follow up on the neutering estimate and it was more than double than what I thought it would be, almost $1200 to be exact. When I asked about preparing the bunny for surgery, I was told to have him fast. Again, that is false information as I confirmed this with our old vet. Dr. Dumas seemed comfortable working with rabbits and so was the nurse, but the staff's rabbit knowledge, the process, and the end cost ($800) left me with a few questions. I returned to my old veterinarian at the Center for Avian and Exotics. The cost for neutering, both vaccination shots, and the wellness visit will cost me about $750. I feel I was overcharged for service that wasn't worth it, as well as the lack of safety for my rabbit read more

I took my dog here because of the good reviews. I was disappointed with the experience I had on my second trip. They made me think my dog could have cancer and needed to be put under to do some tests (about $1600). I left the appointment crying thinking my dog was most likely going to have to amputate a body part. I asked around and found a vet through neighbors that they trust. I went there and they told me they had a very hard time getting my dogs vet records from Heal Vet (as did I, I called for a week every day and was told the vet was too busy to write them up). The new vet was shocked at what I had told them about my trip to Heal and that my dog most likely doesn't have cancer. They were able to do everything Heal wanted to do without putting my dog under and for less than half of the price ($600 instead of $1600). The vet tech at Heal was telling me different things than the Vet was. The tech said my dog had two masses that she was confident were tumors and the vet said there was only one. The vet tech at Heal was so confident and made me feel like I had to do what they were saying. They told me my dog may be too old to be put under and wanted me to pay hundreds of dollars to test her heart before we consider a teeth cleaning. We did not do the test and on the next appointment they wanted to put my dog under for an X ray without doing the heart test. Things were inconsistent and confusing. I'm so glad I went somewhere else and got another opinion. I don't want to do anything thats unnecessary that would put my dog in distress or that will be unnecessarily expensive. Maybe this vet is good for people with younger dogs that don't have health issues but I would not suggest taking your pet here, they will rip you off for sure. read more

I can't say enough good things about the team at HEAL. My pup gets very anxious about vet visits and upset when being handled, and it has been a struggle to find someone who was not only understanding but works with us to make him feel more relaxed and comfortable. Most doctors treated him like a "problem dog," but the HEAL team has been incredibly kind and welcoming. They worked with me on a plan to introduce him to the practice slowly before his first official visit. During his first exam, they worked slowly and gently to build his trust. I was never made to feel they were in a rush, or that his fear was inconveniencing them, like I have at other vets. I can't walk him within two blocks of his old vet or he freaks out. When we walked past HEAL the other day, he pulled me inside to say hi to the staff and get a treat. I never thought I'd see the day, and I am so grateful to Dr Atkinson and Dr Dumas. Not a fan. I took my dog here based on stellar reviews and alleged new patient special - did not find the experience matched. For starters, I had to call repeatedly to get an appt booked, without anyone calling back. But fine, the front desk is not the vet care, so I went forward. Then we HAD an appointment time set, yet still waited nearly an hour in the waiting room.. with no one else there, so still unclear why. Upon being called back, still waited another 20 mins or so. Who knows why, again. Finally the vet came in, and I told her straightaway this was just a yearly checkup, that's all. But since she had never met my dog before, I ran down anything in his health history, so they could get a holistic picture of health and make any chart notes. Imagine my shock at being charged over $600 for an "urgent" visit! I thought this was a mistake, and told the front desk person no, this was a first time visit and also just his annual. She argued with me repeatedly, then sighed and made a big show of going to the back (felt like a used car sales deal) to speak to "the manager", who confirmed this was an acute care visit. I felt absolutely awful having to stand there and argue over this, and begrudgingly she finally discounted me like 10%. The vet also argued with me repeatedly on a couple issues, and was pushing 2 types of completely voluntary surgery - on my senior dog, who certainly doesn't need to risk anesthesia for funsies. I left feeling fleeced, and absolutely will not be back. Interestingly, when I went to a different vet for a minor issue (that actually WOULD be considered "acute") some weeks later... the cost was negligible, and no one tried to talk me into exploratory surgeries- for a senior animal. So I found a good vet, it just isn't this one. read more
