This is obviously a beer store that is very grounding to the community, and offers incredible depth, diversity, and advice... as well as really becoming a beacon for beer tourist fans. The selection is nearly unrivaled by any other locals, and the day I last went in there realized I was in for a REAL treat.... in that the Mexican Coca Cola's they stock use real sugar.... completely altering the taste of it, reminding me and harkening back to the good old days. Great coffee to boot, they also have a pretty cool "Beer of the Month", "Beer of the Week", and basically are celebrating beer as much as they can, sharing the knowledge with anyone willing to listen. Bar none the best selection of beer in San Francisco. I've never seen a selection like this anywhere else, ever. And I love beer. Almost every week I go in there and try something I've never even heard of before. They have great tasting notes on most of the beers taped up in the fridge right next to the product so you know what you are buying. They also have a great selection of British food products. The Short: Best corner store in the Castro, quirky, delicious, suprising. The Long: The first time I walked in, I checked out their Vitamin Water collection, and I was sad that everything had citrus (which I am intolerant of). I asked if they could stock Green Tea, and upon my next visit, I saw it was one of the selections. This is how it always is with Healthy Spirits. They listen to their customers. They have an amazing cheese selection including favourites like La Tur, Exlorateur, Mt. Tam, Chimay washed rind, and new treats like Truffle Tremor. They have an excellent mix of groceries from duck confit, organic eggs and milk to African and Irish imports. Every friday, Remi's mother makes delicious middle-eastern dinners, and this upcoming Wednesday there is a cheese tasting class. Their espresso is excellent. Healthy Spirits also has a huge selection of breakfast and lunchtime sandwichs and meals to satisfy any discerning palate, from the exotic black and white pudding, falafel, and Irish rolls to the more american meatball submarine. Remi also loves ice cream, and has a huge selection of gourmet ice creams, gelatos, sorbets, and foreign imports. They also have about 1/2 the store dedicated to belgian ale, but I hate beer, so I've got zero opinion on that- they are tops without it. For a tiny store, this place is truly astonishing. read more

This is one of the great hidden treasures of San Francisco, and I highly recommend it. My bus route takes me right by this place, and I've always thought it was just a standard hole in the wall. Boy, was I wrong! They have a truly impressive beer selection, including two by my favorite brewery (Stone) that I hadn't seen before. The guy behind the counter really knew his stuff, and was very friendly. This place is perfect for all you adventurous types that want something more interesting than the standard fare. Be warned, though, the beer here is pricey. I spent almost $30 on six beers. Keep in mind, these are craft beers or imports that generally go for a pretty penny regardless of where you go. Top of the line bottle shop with just about everything you can imagine. The small store focuses on craft beer and small batch bourbon. It is one of very few places that have commissioned barrel aged beers for themselves similar to Knightly Spirits in Orlando, FL and El Cerrito in Corona, CA. You can even order stuff they have in stock online and they will ship to you. Whoa. When I was there they had the entire Lost Abbey lineup, Firestone Walker special releases, 50/50 Eclipse releases. Wow! This place has such a huuuuuge selection of beers. I wish they had more space (-1star), cuz walkign through it, I'm scared I'll knock something over and break it. This is an Irish junk food haven. I love all things Irish, and this store has them. Undeniably the best selection of Belgian (and Belgian-style) beers in the Bay Area. We're talking more than just Chimay or the other Trappist beers. They also have some good German and U.S. brews. The three times that I've been there the staff have been knowledgeable and friendly. Many of the same beers are on the menu at La Trappe but here you get to take them home :) They also have the standard beers like Bud, Corona, etc. but why would you buy that beer-flavored water when you could have a quality Belgian with 2-3 times the amount of alcohol? read more
