I AM CONCERNED FOR OTHER DOGS AS THIS INDIVIDUAL DISPLAYED SIGNS OF ABUSIVE HANDLING WITH MY DOG RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES..I WORRY HOW THEY BEHAVE WHEN THERE IS NO ONE ELSE WATCHING I brought my pup in for a simple nail trim. The staff said they would check if there was someone that could do it and a woman comes from the back looking irritated and impatient by the request. They did not greet or look up at me, just put their hand out for the leash and began to try and pull my reluctant pup without acknowledging her or trying to gently guide her like most staff do. She resisted and I told her she was a little nervous and she just tried to pull her harder, essentially dragging her across the floor. It gets worse...she puts her on the table and aggressively grabs her paw...my nervous dog tries to move and pull back so she puts her body weight on her in a aggressive pin to the table and tries to forcefully hold her still instead of assuring her in any way. I understand the need to be a bit firm to get the job done but this was extreme and hostile and she made no effort at to even look at her say hello and put her at ease. She really frightened my dog with the force to the point that she begin to desperately try to get out of her grip, and showed her teeth and looked all around terrified confused. There was no need for this to escalate to this degree. Another employee offered to try and when he brought her back with care and patience, greeted her gave her a pet and simple comfort he was able to clip her nails no problem, only took a few minutes. I asked to speak to the lady and she refused. Zero humanity and obviously not a dog lover. No idea why they are still employed as it seems staff members were aware this is not a singular incident. I consider this animal abuse and someone with a cruel disposition like this should not be working with innocent animals. read more

Things were great at Healthy Spot until our groomer, CoCo, moved away. She cried when she handed our dog over to me for the last time. She was professional, loving and detail oriented. SIGH! During our next visit, our groomer was nice and attentive during drop off. About 20 minutes before I was due to pick up my dog, I got a call that the groomer had nicked his eye. I appreciated their honesty and actually felt bad for the groomer, who was super apologetic and kind -- she checked on our dog the next day. I wish I wasn't stupid enough to bring our dog back here. Today, he had an appointment at 1:00, and we dropped him off a little early. After no communication, I checked in at 2:30 p.m. to see what was going on. They told me the groomer wouldn't be done until 5 p.m.! My poor little dog, who is afraid of other dogs, was left in a crate and no one even bothered communicating with me until I called. I went immediately to go and pick him up --sans haircut -- and a lady came out of the back to drop him off to me. She wasn't apologetic or concerned and told me it "usually takes two hours minimum" for a cut in a patronizing tone. I told her I was disappointed and it took a leap of faith for me to bring him back to HS after they cut him. She gave a half ass apology -- and for the final insult, she told me to "try Petco" and "good luck" as I walked out the door. Her "advice" was unwarranted, unprofessional and condescending. Her "advice" was the last thing I needed. I spent the rest of the day being upset, once again, for how Healthy Spot has traumatized my dog. Not cool at all. Do not recommend. read more

What a Joke, I paid $120 to have a grooming with their "head groomer" and "award winning groomer" MONICA and I got this. "If you don't like it then go somewhere else" literally what the customer service representative told me when I called back to complain about my dog. Firstly, I specifically told Monica to make sure to pluck the fur out of his ears cause they grow fast but she didn't. I also told her to please trim his eyebrows evenly so they look neat.. but she didn't. All she literally did was take a shaver, cut the top half of his body. She didn't even do anything to trim his face or head overall. All they did was completely destroy his eyebrows and eyelash that took ages to grow. Just look how unprofessional this grooming was from the pictures FOR $120!! what's even worse is their overall customer service and their incapability to own up to their mistakes. When I first politely complained about how my pup's head was completely untouched and messy and asked if she could do some touch ups, all Monica did was sigh and argued back saying that she "doesn't have time" to fix it. After some back and forth, she literally let out a sigh, grabbed my dog and just held his head down and shaved his head. You can see from one of the pictures I attached how uneven this was. Side note: she did a terrible job and the reason I'm mentioning it briefly is that that the terrible job is insignificant in comparison to how POORLY my dog was treated. They can read this review and say sorry and give me a free grooming and I still will not go back. If they had the audacity to be so rough on my dog in front of me, I can't imagine what happens behind closed doors or when I'm not there. What can I say? We love Erick as our groomer. We tried a lot of different people for both our pups and when we finally found Erick we knew we'd found the one. He's always excited to see our pups, even this one who is cute, but a handful when it comes to brushing and face trimming. Even when he nibbles on the clippers half the day and needs 3 naps and 12 cookies to get through it, Erick says "he did the best yet!" I want to start by saying this review does not reflect the quality of service at the HS in Berkeley. Today was a disappointing day as a customer. I've been to this HS a few items - never blown away by the customer service (the Berkeley location is MUCH friendlier/helpful), but never particularly annoyed either. Today I was met by two employees who seemed less than thrilled to be at work, and even less motivated to help customers. There was little to no interaction with people who stopped in, and zero interaction with the pets; (saying hello to me is nice, but not helpful, just fyi). Additionally, I presented the two ladies at the register w a gift certificate. They not only looked and sounded completely clueless, but I was shocked by their lack of desire to help find a solution, their empathy for the situation, and the rebuttal that "our manager doesn't clock in until 11, so you'll have to come back." If managers are not going to be present to help customers, then at least make sure the employees covering for you are properly educated on customer issues (vs giving you excuses). Oh, and hire people who actually like pets. That's always a nice touch. read more

This review is for the Grooming Salon. I've brought both my boxers here for nail trimmings before and those have gone well. When they're busy they turn us away but that's normal for walk-in services. Today I dropped off my boxer for a bath. I came back an hour later, the groomer came out to tell me she was JUST now starting on him because she was running late from the other dog and nail trims. She asked if that's okay but at this point what I am supposed to do? At 3pm I'm not going to find another groomer for same day appointment. So I said okay. 22 minutes later I received a call to say he was ready. I emphasized that I didn't want the groomer to rush and that Bucky should get a full bath. She assured me he did and even mentioned she cleaned his ears twice because they were dirty. The person at the checkout counter said they're always running late. She said this if this is a normal everyday thing, Which blew my mind. Why wasn't this mentioned when I dropped him off? My dog is brought out and as I'm putting his collar back on I can tell he is still wet and I mention it to them and they said, [groomer] was probably trying to get him out to you fast. To which I responded that I told them not to rush. $72 for a 22 minute bath, dog still wet, ears still dirty. And then I am asked if I want to tip. tip for service? No. He's still wet, they didn't complete the service, they rushed him. In my opinion groomer made her money. Bath was supposed to be an hour, she charged the regular rate for only 22 minutes. She made her commission with the nail trim she did while she was suppose to bathe my dog. Normal bath price is $80, I was given the new client discount if $8. First and last bath here. They don't honor your appointment time. They rush through service and you'll still pay full price. Overall awful experience for puppy's 1st birthday bath. Give them another chance? No thank you. There are better businesses that I would rather give $80 to. Less than two weeks later and he needs another nail trim. read more

We have been bringing our dogs here for a few years, and have put up with enough inconsistencies in their scheduling and quality of grooming that warrant this review. The latest blunder on their part was sending us a text at 8:30pm the night before the scheduled appointment (scheduled 2 months out) letting us know that the groomer is no-longer available due to some sort of court procedure they need to go through. After booking, I received a text several days later stating that the usual $135 charge (which is a lot) needs to increase to $180 because my dog is a doodle. My recent visit made me feel so thankful for the service they provided me. I forgot that my senior dog, Kee wee, doesn't do well when there's so many dogs in the grooming. Koko read the notation on file and called me to offer a better time for Kee wee to come in. I can't be more happy that she did that. On the day of our dogs grooming appointment, Cameron came out to meet us and was very gentle with Kee wee. We were very loyal to this business but after 4 (!) times of showing up to be told our long awaited grooming appts for our dog can't be honored... it is infuriating. They don't even call us to tell us they are bailing, we have to show up with our dog to then be told "we are sorry, xyz excuse". It is beyond frustrating as we really liked Abby's grooming of our Havanese. But their appointment management is beyond terrible. How hard is it to confirm or cancel appts in advance? Even same day notice, but something?! It is a waste of our time and leaves us hosed. We will be going elsewhere for grooming sadly. read more

I used to work for healthy spot. I'm sure after seeing my name you will see I am on the reviews quiet a bit. My time there had to come to an end due to the staff that was hired. As alot of the reviews complain about the staff just is not good, now these people aren't bad, but I think sometimes you have to know who is going to succeed in customer service and who isn't. And if they don't it's okay. I am in the neighborhood and although I wouldn't recommend grooming to anyone due to what I know is going on on the other side the retail products are great. My husband went in the other day to grab something for a friend who loves to dress up their dog and healthy spot does have good cute little dog gear. Now mind you my husband is one of the nicest men, he is know in the community and is just a sweet man. He went in and not one person helped him he said, he said hi to erick who he knows well and has gifted a rare album. He even commented on Erick's long hair and got no response. He came back empty handed feeling super uncomfortable and uneasy after being in there. It's unfortunate that healthy spot hasn't learned that their employees are really damaging the reputation and community they could be building. I loved the customers when I was there that was a big reason why I decided to work at healthy spot. I felt the need to write a review so that the team can see and understand. She had a shampoo, even got bows in her hair. Inline nothing g was available for months, but I called in just to check since she's little and I just want paws trimmed. We have been to Healthy Spot a few times and had are puppy groomed by Koko ,she was the absolute best and each time we loved the outcome sadly Koko left and we had to book with another groomer that she chose unfortunately there was a big storm the day we were to see her and appointment had to be canceled, She was really booked out ( the whole grooming department is booked) so against my better judgment I took the first appointment I could get with Eric, which I regret when he first saw my dog he said "she's matted and is an extra $50" I thinking to myself yes she's been waiting to get in since November so there may be some matting. If I would've known that paying the extra would have made him not scalp my dog , I would have paid it.We left her at 1 and didn't hear anything for hours and once they contacted me ,I knew something was wrong he had shaved her down to an unrecognizable dog which I asked him not to do and she was not done until closing time which I don't understand why , when we've been before Koko could do a whole wash , blow dry and cute cut in less time. The cut is horrible ,uneven , bald in some spots,her nails were left pretty long when usually they are trimmed perfectly. She also was sent with some parts of her paws trimmed uneven as well. My daughters were so excited to pick her up and brought to tears by the horrible job Eric did. I will not bring our dog back here the cut looks like a pandemic cut that so many owners tried during lockdown done by me instead of a professional. my groomer's name is Monica Please DO NOT come here. I would not come here even if you PAID me. I honestly do not understand how their management team and groomer could be so unprofessional. They canceled my original appointment and rebooked me for an earlier date. they claimed to have overbooked and honestly if they are overbooked they SHOULD NOT be taking in more clients. At least have the decency to ensure that my groom is not RUSHED if I am already paying so much for such a bad job. When I asked the groomer to help me retouch up the areas she said that she simply didn't have the time. I told them that I was willing to come back to fix their work but at least shave his head (since they literally only shaved half his head and left the other half undone). She was super annoyed and SIGHED at her client and told me she simply did not have time because she was overbooked. She took my dog's head roughly and just started shaving him with NO CARE AT ALL, creating really bad patches on his head. She didn't even pluck his ear hair after I mentioned I really wanted it done. SHE DID NOT EVEN SHAVE HIS SANITARY AREA (pee area) which is clearly one of the things that go without saying. When I called back to reschedule a different groomer what they said to me was that they didn't understand what the problem was because she won awards for cutting schnauzer hair. Honestly please just look at the photo because you can clearly tell she did not care about making the haircut nice. Even someone who did not win awards would not do as bad of the job if they tried. SINCE IT IS NOT EVEN SYMMETRICAL. it is clear that the haircut is not even symmetrical (see how one side of the dog butt is shaved and the other side is not) also see how they botched my dog's eyebrow (it is not even or was not even cut straight). even on the body, there are uneven parts where some parts of the hair are shaved and others are not (when it should be an even flat surface). THIS IS NOT A MATTER OF NOT BEING a GOOD groomer its a matter of them not caring. They even made his ears botched and his head was not shaved evenly. When I told them I was unhappy they simply said that I should look for a different place and groomer if I was unhappy. It was as if they didn't need my business and they didn't not care they were losing a customer. I have been to healthy spot in Bev Hills and its very nice this on the other hand is the complete opposite. They did not even seem to be apologetic, which is what really made me angry. I honestly do not know what is going on but if she cannot handle customers/ clients well enough she should not be working.
