They probably are fine for small dogs, but they currently don't have anyone who can skillfully groom a standard poodle, since their two experts have left. The last time I took my dog there, they kept her for 8 hours and delivered her with a jagged, uneven cut almost everywhere. I had similar experiences the two times before, but given how convenient this location is, I gave the second and third chances. To their credit, they always offer to clean up the issue areas, but for $190 (yes you read that right, and it is a 4-hour process) it should be done right the first time. If you consider using their grooming services, you should find out the experience level of the groomer before you book. They used to be absolutely amazing when their previous groomers were still there. read more

My mini labradoodle has been going to Healthy Spot on College Avenue since they opened and we've gone through a few different groomers (all we really liked) but Abby is the sweetest by far! Sophie, our fluff is anxious but over the past four appointments with Abby she has grown to love her. She went from full body shivers to wagging her tail and only a slight shiver in her back legs. When i picked her up, she looked so happy and relaxed. I was hesitant to bring her in because she is dog aggressive but Andy told me she did really well. I am so happy with the service provided; Hera's coat is super soft and she smells amazing. I will definitely bring her back for a grooming service. I have been contacted by their southern California attorney. who represents them in a class action lawsuit brought against them fir allegedly injuring and causing g the death of customers pets. We love our groomer Abby! She's cut my dog Rory for the last 6 months. I'm really discerning on the quality and exactness of grooming and cuts (my wife calls it projection, lol). I'm sure that I'm not an easy customer. I just remember when Rory was a puppy that we kept bringing him to different East Bay groomers and, despite our instructions, he'd get the same exact doodle haircut that made him look way more poodley than anything. Not our preference. This doesn't happen with Abby. She's attentive, patient, and willing to really work with the customer to get everything right. She's also very communicative throughout the appointment so I can plan my schedule and pickup the pup on time. That's hugely helpful during busy weekdays. Healthy Spot is pretty expensive. Since Healthy Spot opened on College Ave, we've been taking our Golden Roxie for 'spa day.' Ariel has been her groomer and does a fantastic job. Roxie's nails are taken care of, she gets a great trim, and she smells good. Roxie has no anxiety going to see Ariel and is actually reluctant to leave when we pick her up. Sorry to say that this is a mixed bag for me. I used them as they had sent a coupon book to neighbors when they first opened. I took advantage of the grand opening specials and brought my dog in for the full bath, cut, style etc. Less than two hours later I got a call that my dog was ready to be picked up. The groomer, Cameron, brought my dog out and I was utterly pleased. My dog never looked so good. I immediately confirmed Cameron's name and made a mental note. A few months had passed and I thought it was time to give my terrier another style appointment, and here is where I start to get annoyed. The website asks you to call and make an appointment for one of its services. However, the services are listed by name only and don't say what that services encompasses. Secondly, there are no prices. I don't like sticker shock, so I called to ask why there were no prices listed and I was told the prices vary on location. What? I understand a price varying by size of dog, but location? The Bay Area may be home to many wealthy people, but it's also home to a lot of people in the academic world who can't be expected to pay a rate just because there's a lot of millionaires around. I was quoted a price of $150 for a 40lb dog, twice what my groomer in Fruitvale charges...And of course, Cameron deserves a tip, so now we're at $170! Yes they do a great job, but I don't like their inconsistent and dicey pricing system. (One of the options is listed as "Express Service" and when I asked the price for that I was told if I brought dog in before 9:00 it would be free. What? And after 9? I asked. I was told it would depend on how crowded it was but it could be $40 above the $150. WHAT?! So, since there is no explanations on their site, I asked what "Express Service" entailed, and for the life of me, it sounded like the $150 package just done more.....expressly? read more

Really disappointing. Showed up for my scheduled apt that I booked months in advance. They had cancelled my apt and did not let me know. Groomer had moved and no one contacted me (which they confirmed they had no record of). They couldn't fit me in with another groomer, wouldn't reschedule me for earlier then a month out, and manager was not available to speak with me and would contact me in a few days. healthy spot is a very recent addition to the rockridge area - i believe they've been open for about a year. we really don't have many pet store/grooming facility combos in this area, especially after the petco in emeryville closed, so i was excited to hear about the opening. i intentionally waited to write a review, as i knew that being a new store during the pandemic comes with a host of challenges and they were still working out the kinks. unfortunately, i think things are getting worse instead of better so it's time for that review. i brought in my 5 year old pup for a first-time full groom earlier this year. the appointment making process was relatively easy and they had immediate availability which was a huge plus. my first groomer (i don't remember her name) was super sweet and we had a detailed conversation about how i wanted my pup groomed (nothing fancy, but because we were new). unfortunately, my pup looked ungroomed when i picked him up. he was unpolished and his hair was still super long, despite me asking for most of it to be shaved off. my groomer was more than happy to make adjustments (and she did) and i left the store immediately after, as my pup had become pretty anxious. i went over my pup's groom once i got home and still found the grooming job to be inadequate. the cut was super choppy and certain areas of his body were long (like his sanitary area) when there was no reason for it and i'd requested the exact opposite. my pup also developed a bad case of dandruff (??) which has never been an issue, even when i wash him myself. i gave healthy spot a ring and they offered a regroom appointment, so my pup and i trekked back for a third try. this time, koko took care of us and the experience was much better. she was attentive and listened to my concerns, and my pup emerged looking much better than the first two grooms. she also used a upgrade treatment to get rid of the dandruff. a couple of months later, my pup began having issues with his anal glands and i had to have them expressed at the vet for the first time in his 5 year life. i contacted healthy spot, yet again, and based on the conversation i had, i don't believe that healthy spot does traditional groomer expressions (groomer expressions are typically not as thorough as the manual expressions you get from the vet, but they have always been sufficient for us prior to healthyspot). after working through some unrelated alopecia issues at home, i decided to give healthy spot another try. koko really did leave a good impression and i thought it was fair, since the first groom is hardly ever perfect. i couldn't find koko in the online system, however, so i gave the store a call. the convo went like this: me: hi! i'm trying to book an appointment online with our groomer, koko, but she's not on the groomer list. does she still work there? HS: no. and just so you know, we're not taking any new grooming clients, sorry. me: ...i'm not a new client? how would i have known about koko? HS: well, she's been gone for a long time. me: when did she leave? HS: september. me: that was last month! there was no offer to book me with someone else or suggestion of another groomer. maybe she was having a bad day, but it didn't seem like HS wanted or needed my business and i had way too many issues during my first visit to press them about it. and while i'm glad they were always willing to fix their mistakes - having to do 3-4 regrooms is stressful for my dog and a bit annoying for me when i have to drive back to the store and struggle with the lack of parking in that area to get the issue resolved. i don't think HS is a good fit for us and/or spaniels but maybe they are rockstars with other breeds? read more

I'm really disappointed in the service I received today. I had a booked appointment for my 2 year old pup who isn't their first time here for full grooming. I walk in, let them know my appointment time and the person in front was confused. They mentioned that I wasn't in the system I proceed to show my confirmation text and they ask if it was just for nail trimming. Then they mention that my appointment was pushed to 9am then canceled. It seems like they had no idea and I proceed to let them know that it was for a haircut and someone else comes over to try and figure out what was wrong. They let me know they have availability until tomorrow but they didn't even apologize for the confusion. I left disappointed because of the drive and because I've always have had great experiences with the customer service here. Not sure what happened, but an apology goes a long way. read more

I used to love healthy spot in mission bay. Then moved to Oakland was excited there was one in Rockridge. BEWARE worst customer service and are constantly canceling appointments. 4 times in the last few months. Once I was standing outside the door for an appointment and got called that groomer was not in. Rescheduled only to go back and be told groomer left 30 minutes earlier with food poisoning. 3rd time cancelled again as standing outside of door. Was told the law doesn't allow them to call customers before 9am - which is utter bullshit. Rescheduled again only to get a text that groomer will be out until Nov 25 even though the appointment is Nov 13....when I asked for another groomer on the same day I got told "oh sorry we only have one groomer working". Then got the insult of " our groomers have lives and kids and sickness and life (which I would understand if it didn't sound so suspect that the same groomer had all those problems ) This is not a customer centric store, one of the more expensive options and their service is not good and most of the workers there don't even look like they want to be there. Do yourself a favor -go somewhere else read more

Management/scheduling is unprofessional. Very frustrating. I was trying to book my appointments at the beginning of every month so I could get in - because it's nearly impossible many places. I had reasonable hopes. It's a convenient location and tempting to go there. Here's my fair warning: The second month at the very last second they texted me to cancel & said one of their workers wasn't coming in. They did not offer me another time. B/c I followed up, they told me Via text I had an appointment the following week. I approved. This was erased from their correspondence. This morning I left my Anniversary celebration an hour and a half away to get to this appointment and they said I wasn't in their books and they tried to blame me. I think they over booked and placated me with excuses. I calmly recommended that the management CALL people, rather than text, to make sure there's not a problem and she went behind the desk as though she was going to take my suggestion, which was a tactic to see me out the door. this was my second time coming in with my angel Daisy. We had a wonderful experience last year, i forgot the groomers name but he did a great job with my girl. He communicated, was respectful towards my dog, and listened to what we wanted. Daisy was very happy when we picked her up and you could tell she felt confident! However, after this recent appointment i dont think ill be taking her here again. daisy's grandmother had done me the favor of taking her and from what she said they made them wait for more than 3+ hours. i understand that dog grooming is not only difficult but also time consuming although the groomer did not communicate with us. my mother had to go back into healthy spot and ask if Daisy was ready. my baby had been locked up for what seemed a good while. i will give the groomer props for not fucking up my dog, she did a good job on Daisy she just needs to work on communication. she also left one of daisys nails uncut? daisy's behavior was not the same this time...im aware that its normal for dogs to feel overwhelmed after a haircut but knowing that my dog WAS able to feel happy after her first experience here it was disappointing to know that she did not have that experience again. she seemed quite sad, doesn't want to play and keeps rubbing her booty on the floor. my last criticism are the desk attendants, they are very unprofessional. healthy spot changed a lot of their good, kind groomers and its pretty much a mess now. i hope that these new groomers can grow and become better. read more

I have been a regular customer at Rockridge Healthy Spot for more than a year having my standard Labradoodle groomed about every 4-6 weeks. He is always brushed by me before bringing him in (no matts) and he is very friendly to people and other dogs. Standard grooming includes bath, hair cut, trim face, feet and tail and nail clipping and it is not cheap. I always include a tip. All tasks have been performed very well by Groomer Abi except nail trimming which is inconsistent and not always done on every toe. In the past, this has resulted in my making an appointment with my Vet right after my dog's grooming appointment and paying another $25 to have his nails clipped. So this month, when his nails were again inconsistently clipped during his usual grooming, I contacted the Rockridge Healthy Spot "grooming line" and left a pleasant message reporting on the non-clipped nails, saying I would bring him back the next day where it should take 2 people 5 minutes to complete the nail clipping; I requested a return call or text. I received no response. So, I took him back to Rockridge Healthy Spot where Groomer Abi just happened to be up front; she denied any problem with incomplete nail trimming; said she clipped them almost to the quick (not so) and then turned abruptly away saying something dismissively sarcastic like "And have a nice day!". None of the above constitutes good customer service; this excessive "attitude" is based on the glut of dogs after Covid-19 that need grooming and this attitude is very evident at Rockridge Healthy Spot which is: "If you don't like the service, go somewhere else". And, yes, their scheduling system (if you can call it a system) is inconsistent and chaotic. read more

I brought my two dogs here for their regular grooming: fur, teeth, nails. I thought this would be a good place to go considering I went to Petsmart and they have bad reviews. I don't want to mention the groomers who groomed my dogs. But, I showed them exactly how I want the fur to be cut and they still didn't refer back to the picture because my dogs fur is still long, I also feel huge knots behind my dogs ears, the nails are still sharp because they scratched me. I have tried texting the groomer and reaching back to the manager in which my messages were ignored. I will definitely not recommend bringing your dog here, as I am not satisfied. read more

I have gone to this place once and although the cuts are pretty expensive, the groomer was professional. However, the staff who schedules were sadly ineffective. I made an appointment by phone and it was a month out which is really long time to wait in any dog world. However, when I called to confirm the upcoming appointment, they didn't have my dog scheduled and could only offer an appointment another month out! We succumbed to the temptation of getting a pandemic puppy and are so glad Healthy Spot opened right around the time we got her. I was surprised by how much they're able to pack into that space! They've got all of the essentials (and then some), and everything is high quality so I don't need to question ingredients or whether or not it's safe for my puppy. I've been on the fence about going raw for our puppy's diet and Audrie has been super helpful with ideas on how to transition her and finding the most cost effective ways to go raw. My partner and I have been a healthy spot customer for some time. We are usually based in Southern California and go to the locations there. We recently moved to the Bay Area over the summer and needed to find a spot close to us and we stumbled upon Rockridge! To be honest the location itself was great we had no issues in retail but our grooming experience was pretty bad. The person that bathed our dog was great the first time and I believe it was Emily but the last time we came we had azul and my dog wasn't very dry and his coat needs be dry or he is prone to infection and dry skin. He wasn't deshed and a few nails were not cut. When I told them they were rude and at that point I didn't want my dog to be there anymore. Also they were just not wearing an appropriate top the whole experience was uncomfortable and odd. I decided to relocate to Southern California but I felt I needed to say something before we leave. read more
