Typically I have great experiences at spas similar to Healthy Zu, but not at Healthy Zu. The masseur had long nails and would scratch at my skin..it was TERRIBLE. At one point he continuously scratched away at a mole and I had to tell him it's not any sort of dead skin or anything, he had to stop! I have no idea how, or why, the masseur thought this was the right way to give a massage. I usually give second chances but not too sure I will with Healthy Zu. read more

This place is my favorite spot for an inexpensive massage. They always do an incredibly job. I usually opt for the split (30 min reflexology and 30 min body massage) for $55. The place is one big room with a bunch of different beds so it's not super private but I like when I don't have to make getting a message a whole thing. read more

Where do I begin??? This is truly a hidden gem in Chicago. I love having new experience and if you do also you must come here. This is not your "typical" spa but it is amazing!! By far the best $28 dollars I've spent in my life. When you enter the room you will see about 6 small massage beds. Yes this means you don't have a private room but trust me you won't feel like it. I should start this by saying that my parents don't speak fluent English, nor do my in-laws. They however do not work at a massage place. I called around noon and was told to come at two this afternoon. I show up and am told they're busy. I was then told to come back at 4. Silly me does this by hanging around Ulta and Whole Foods. I return at 4. Again, I am told they're too busy. The issue? I later learned from speaking to a friend that REFLEXOLOGY means you are okay in the giant room and referring to their online list of services means you want a PRIVATE ROOM. I obviously didn't know there was a private room option. When I was there at 2pm though, I distinctly said, "What service is possible now?" Not a word about, "Hey, there's a spot in what is likely the unsanitary big room." Nope. I don't care how cheap it is. I'm not trying this again. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I called in on July 22, to make an appointment for 2 people for a 30 minute reflexology. When we get to our appointment, on Saturday August 8, the lady at the front desk said that she didn't have my appointment. She said she could take me in 30 minutes, but we could not wait because we had reservations elsewhere. She then proceeded to look through her phone to find when I called her, as if she didn't believe that I made the appointment. She found it and told me that I had made the reservation too far in advance. Very unprofessional. If it was too far in advance, why would she make the appointment?? This place is a DUMP! We had a appointment and then got let or an hour because "no appointment for one minute". Really. It's 7:30. I can't even believe this place called me to to come at 6:40 "early" from my appointment and the woman yelled at me that my appointment wasn't until after 8. My husband and I was early and the shady lady behind the curtain said "no room" The receptionist screamed at us and the male employee came running out screaming at her headed to the bus stop. Disclaimer: this review is for yelpers (like myself) who are new to foot massage/reflexology and want to try it out! My first time getting a foot massage was here at healthy zhu and I've been here twice! Here's some of my tips/heads up: 1. Prices are so reasonable! Don't go unless you check Groupon to see if they have a deal. My last massage was $19.20 for an hour 2. Clothes stay on, but I always wear a camisole and leggings/capris. You'll be in a larger room with other people, but it's dark and the music is relaxing. 3. You start off laying on your back. They go in order of: head, neck, arms, feet. During this time your feet are soaking in warm water. Then you flip over and they work on your back some more. They give you towels/blankets to stay warm. They don't use too much lotion so you aren't leaving all greasy. 4. I'm generally a light/soft pressure kind of girl. They use pressure points on your feet and work their elbows when on your back. I'm sure you can ask for lighter pressure, but I try to breathe through the discomfort. The first time I went, I wasn't able to fully relax and was a little surprised at the pressure they used. The second time I knew what to expect and I left feeling great! 5. It's a good deal, so keep that in mind when tipping. I usually have tipped 15-20 dollars. In total, that's under 40 bucks for a great massage. Where can you find that at a spa in west loop? Finally: please don't get a message if you have a cold (sniffles and coughs can ruin someone else's massage and can get other people sick). I always forget to take off my ring, but they always turn it around when massaging the hand. Hope this helps! read more

I'm so glad that I came here. It reminds me a lot of a place I love closer to my house called Relax Feet so it's really nice to also have an option by work. Relax Feet is a much bigger space so it was definitely more hushed and relaxing there. I could definitely hear the receptionist making appointments in the lobby, and at some point in the small room someone fell asleep and I could hear them snoring, which I found more funny than annoying. The service was still amazing and at some point I maybe dozed off or left my body a little and I feel super refreshed and am already planning my next trip there with my work wife so she too can experience the zen. read more

Came here for a 60 minute reflexology massage (basically was a normal foot massage). It was by appointment only but same day appointments were possible which was a plus. Overall the massage was just okay but I did feel like I got jipped for the timing. I started a couple minutes after my appointment and then when they said I was done, I looked at the time and it was 4 minutes before the next hour. So I got jipped of ~8 minutes of massage time just right then and there.. On top of it, the person beside me started earlier than me and finished a minute after me... Yes it is only 8 minutes but out of 60 minutes that was paid for, that was 13% of my money that I paid for and did not receive anything for. read more

My massage therapist was great. However, the two stars are for the fact the receptionist/ manager rushed us out of the massage table to get it ready for the next person. I wasn't even up from My massage and she was adjusting the towels and putting new ones on for the next client.. really!! We started our appointment 10 minutes late and she was rushing us out!?!? I've been there almost once a week for the last couple of months and this was by far the worst customer experience. It pains me to write this review. I've been going to The Zu for 3 years. For the price, I thought I couldn't get any better. Even massages at higher prices often couldn't compare with this. However, I went on the Sunday of Memorial weekend and I realized that The Zu is no longer the place it once was. Several reasons... #1 - the wait. I make an appointment every time and have never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes post-appointment time. I waited nearly 15 minutes. #2 - the bed. It was saggy and worn and desperately needed replacement. #3 - the towels. They felt rough, and I questioned their cleanliness. #4 - the noise. On at least 4 occasions, I heard disgusting throat hawking from the therapists. My own therapist excused himself 2x to loudly and disgustingly clear his own throat about 10 feet away from me. Gross. #5 - my therapist's technique. This is reflexology - not a Swedish massage - I get that. In fact, it's the reason I go. But this time, I was legitimately in pain. And since my therapist didn't speak any English, we couldn't communicate except for me to squirm or make quiet grunting noises to indicate he needed to go lighter. I also have a blue pinky finger at the knuckle where he pulled and cracked it so hard, I'm pretty sure something is broken. Zu - I loved you, and it pains me to say it, but I'm afraid I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more

This has been one of my go to places here in West Loop. Before I moved to Chicago I used to be a member of a massage chain and would pay the mo the monthly rate for the 1 hour massage each month. With those massages they were pretty 'meh' and the masseuse would always end 10 minutes early. Not the greatest. My friend brought me here early last year and I was a bit skeptical. When you go, I recommend that you wear workout capris (they are easier to roll up) and a tank - for men: long workout shorts & t-shirt. The one hour massage is amazing! I tend to opt for the 60 minute foot massage which they spend 30 minutes on the feet and 30 minutes on the rest of the body. If you're not the biggest fan of being massaged, this isn't the place for you. They make sure to bring attention to the whole body and you leave feeling amazing! Their rates are quite competitive (currently $28 for a 60 minute foot massage then I tend to add on a $15 or $20 tip....still a great deal!) and as a result, I tend to go about twice a month. read more

So I love groupons for these creepy asian style massage places. I get sucked in every time. I love the 60min foot massage that is really an all over massage over your clothes in a room with other people that is so cheap, I cannot resist! Yes, I know...it sounds weird, but honestly, its not weird. They gave great pressure on my back. The room was dark and fairly quiet. I would definitely go back. So here's the deal, the massage is Chinese Tui Na style so if you're looking for a soft Swedish, you will have to tell them to go real light on you. The massage is meant to stretch, flex and roll any imbalances in your body. The pressure by default is equivalent to a deep tissue. I got the $28 60 minute massage. Although they call it a foot massage, they work on the whole body. Here's my play by play. It starts with an herbal foot soak so you'll have to take off the socks. While soaking, they start with a head massage that consists of rubbing on the temple, ear and scalp. Then they move to each arm, kneading and rolling any tightness away. If you don't want your hair messed up, you may want to tell them to skip this part. Then they move to the feet which is the important part. Since every part of the body's nerves are connected to your feet, reflexology methods are used by hitting pressure points in the foot. If there are areas on the foot that hurt, the therapist can probably tell you the corresponding area of your body that needs balancing or more looking into. Preventing disease is the Chinese way, and this is a great way to detect ailments that may be on the way. Btw, I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV so none of what I say will be evaluated by the FDA, but have been practiced by the Chinese for hundreds if not thousands of years. After the reflexology, the relaxing part begins as they tell you to flip over. They knead, roll and tap your neck and shoulders paying attention to your areas that are specifically tight and try to break it up. They work down to your lower back, glutes, thighs and then finally your calf. When they're almost finished, they will give you one last slapping & tapping motion up and down your body. Tip well, since the massage prices are so low, the average tip at these places expected are $10 for an hour, $15 for a great job. Adjust if you get a shorter or longer massage. Drink lots of water (which they'll have in the lobby). Your body will need it to flush out the toxins that the massage has pushed out of your body. I'm so glad that I don't have to go way up north or burbs for this now. If you live in the west or south loop, there's no reason to pass up this joint. Who ever it was that did my massage did a great job! It's very calm and relaxing in there. The chairs that fully recline need some lumbar support! The buckets in which your feet soak have little nubs on the bottom that feel so good on tired feet. The 60 minute foot/body massage with clothes on is only $28. Currently there is a yelp deal for $25 for $20. ...and now the bad part.... The cashier had a hard time explaining the yelp deal. I thought it was like any other "deal" that functioned like a gift card but she made it into this long explanation that ended up confusing me and asking if I knew what she was saying. After 5 minutes she got to the point which is exactly what I thought it was....like a gift certificate. As I was walking in the cashier was yelling after a guy leaving asking if he left a tip. A tip is considered a gift and is optional so shouting after someone to ensure they left a tip is a bad customer service move. And with that said I am a good tipper. Then I noticed when I was paying they have a sign on the counter with 4 smiley faces showing different ranges of thankfulness from crying to holding a bouquet of flowers. under the crying smiley was "$5.00" and under the flower holding smiley was "$20" and two in-between. This place blew my socks off. Don't expect a 5 star spa like experience- you walk in, there are 15 (really comfy and big) reclining chairs lined up in a dark room. Still, it's relaxing in it's own way. I initially bought a groupon for a 30 minute reflexology, but when I got there one of the managers offered me an extra 30 minutes for only 7 dollars more. How can you say no to that? I don't know why they even advertise this as only a foot massage. They would probably get even more business if people knew they would be getting a whole body over-the-clothes fabulous rub down. Typically when I get a massage, I have to constantly ask them to use more pressure - the staff here really understands where/when to increase or decrease the pressure they are using. They start with a head massage, which totally gets you relaxed and let your feet soak in a hot tub in the meantime. Their base price is 28 dollars/hour. I will definitely be back. I usually ash them to focus just on my feet. The back room has about 9 tables, so it is a group of people being massaged in the same room. They have 1 private room I believe. They like there tips. I live in the area (just 5 minutes' walking), have walked to Little Goat/ Girl & the Goat etc. at the corner a few times, but hadn't discovered this place. Found it on Groupon, saw 5-star reviews, and purchased the deal. I thought the store front was not very modern, saw something related to Chinese Tui Na when browsing the reviews, but did not know it is a Chinese massage spot. It surprised me that there is such a place in a modern American restaurants area. I thought They only exist in Chinatown. I don't like Swedish massage as I feel it does not function, and does not reach the right points. This place provides Chinese style massage which iI used to get back in China. The way they treat customers are respectful. The way they massage is professional. The massage technique is good enough. It was actually a full-body massage, although they call it foot massage. It was very relaxing, and I almost fell into sleep while having foot massage. It totally exceeds my expectation. Every time I thought it was over, there was more to come! And again, more! There is even back massage. I only had got 20-minute chair massage before, since 60-minute full body massage on a bed/ flat chair is quite expensive. But this one is not. The total paying price is even lower than $20 for 60-minute, considering Groupon discount and rebates. Without any deals, the original price is still affordable. I came over due to its 4 stars plus its the closest to my home, but sorry, I can give only 1 with my experience... first, we called to make an appointment, they said we can come anytime. We arrived on time, but then they said there was another two who also said that they have appointment...and asked us to wait, since we already there, we just waited for 35 minutes. ok, at last its our turn, the water for soaking my feet was not even luck warm, nearly cold, I wonder whether its a "second hand"... The woman who did my massage was totally exhausted that she was just simply "touching" me, nothing got to the point of any part of my muscle...neither on my feet nor my body.
