I'm so happy I found an awesome masseuse near home! I've only seen Shu once; but I definitely plan to see her, again. This is not your typical spa-visit type of massage. Her work is very therapeutic and focused. Before she starts, she consults with you to see what you want to have her work on and she does a quick check. She'll explain things and discuss her findings before and throughout the massage. Shu knew exactly what to work on and I walked out of there relaxed, looser, and energized. Seriously, I've never walked out of a massage energized!! I am typically too relaxed and want to take a nap. Being energized is new to me. I felt like going for a jog (except for the fact that I'm lazy and drove to see her). Ok, seriously... my experience was different. I have my issues... tight shoulders, tight leg muscles and my visit can best be summarized as no pain, no gain! She worked the kinks out and there was a little pain; but that's what I liked about her. She was not afraid! She was confident and knew what she was doing. Her technique took me from pain, to relief, to let's go for a jog! Don't get me wrong, the visit was also relaxing. She didn't talk to me the entire time and there was a long stretch where things were just soothing. I highly recommend her. She communicates well, the massage is well balanced (and as others have stated, it's not a rub down), and she doesn't put you on a plan - like come see me every 2 weeks for 2 months - she simply recommends scheduling an appointment when you need it. I started going to Shu close to 10 years ago and have started to go to her consistently (every 2 weeks) this past year. I went through a cancer diagnosis and got thrown into chemo-induced menopause. It's hard giving a five star to massage places but I'll say shu is super great. She massaged me during my pregnancy and postpartum. I love her massage techniques. And she does an excellent deep tissue massage. Her office and massage room is very small but she delivers an excellent service. Both my appointments were made on the same day and she accommodated me without any issue. Only issue with this place is noise and location. I have had the opportunity to have three massages by Shu since moving to Elk Grove. I scheduled my first appointment as my last massage had been over a year ago. The second one appointment was kind of a long overdue tune up. The second one was a result of severe lower back and hip pain likely a result from planting in my yard, moving pots, etc. And today was kind of a last minute need for some aches in my upper back. Shu's massage techniques are different from other massages I have received. Her massage style uses acupressure along with deep tissue massage. She has a great, firm touch and talks you through the deep tissue/tension to reduce the soreness as she works on areas. She is good about explaining not only her techniques but what and why she's working on an area, what the muscle group is and what its function is, when working on my spine she identified the vertebrae she was working on, if she noticed lumps or things that were unusual, etc. She also talked about health and well being, mental and physical health and spiritual well being. She listened to what I had to say at the onset of each appointment, the areas that were bothering me and then worked on those areas but also providing an overall GREAT massage. She explained what she was doing, why the pressure may seem really hard and reminded me to breath. She also talked about overall balance needed in our lives both mentally and physically as well as eating, things that make us happy, etc. I always walk out of these massages with a sense of overall balance, joy and well-being. Based upon today's appointment, my third, I think I will schedule appointments monthly in order to maintain this great balance, well-being feeling. I already have my appointment scheduled for August. I cannot say enough positive about Shu. She is truly a phenomenal healer, masseuse and I will highly recommend her and give her an outstanding reference. This is not your typical Chinese foot massage place. Shu speaks English. She knows her stuff. She doesn't answer the phone in the middle of the massage. I was able to make a same day appointment and came here for the first time last week. The massage room is located inside a chiropractor's office but she doesn't work for them. The massage room is comfortable and clean but noise from the chiropractor's office can be heard. She checked out my body and talked to me about her analysis. Went to see Shu for some back problems I was having from a car accident. It was a bit out of the way for me, but I had an appointment in the area already, so I gave her a shot. My experience was good. She was polite and professional, and did a good job of listening to feedback as she worked on the problem area. She applied consistent pressure and tended to the problem areas well and used the alloted time efficiently. I have gone to other therapists that are really good at working on massaging areas that are indirectly connected to the problem area. Shu did a little of that, and sometimes she found spots, but she wasn't as good at it as others. Her work space is clean and comfortable. One thing to be aware of is that her space is not labeled at all. When I went, it was labeled as a chiropractor's office only. I had to call from outside to confirm I was at the right place while I was standing outside the office. The woman at the front desk was helpful and directed me to the right place, but it would have been helpful if Shu's scheduler (i think its her husband) gave some instructions or heads up about the office while we were on the phone. read more

All I can say is....why did I not know about this sooner!!??? This is not a normal reflexology massage therapist. Aka = a rub me down. I've had professional massages as well; however, I didn't want to drive 30 minutes to a spa, when we all know we just want to go home and sleep by the time we're done with our massage!! I just moved and needed to find a massage therapist in Elk Grove. My friend recommended me to go to Shu since her mom and dad highly recommended her. I called and booked a 90 minute massage on a Friday night. I didn't know what I was going to expect other than I needed my knots out and a normal $20- 60 reflexology was not going to cut it. When I walked up to the location, Shu greeted me and invited me into her office. I'm not sure if she's the only one that works there or if there's other therapists. Shu asked what problems I was having and I told her what was going on with my neck and back. The massage room was very clean and there was heating pads underneath the sheets which was a plus! Shu really listened to what I said and really got in there with my knots. Sure it hurt for a little bit but she relieved so much of the tension going on in my back/shoulders/neck, which was the cause of my headaches!! She also cracked my back which I've only gotten chiropractors to do to me or I do it myself. If you're looking for someone to get those stubborn knots out, this therapist will get them out for you!! I highly recommend Shu and will be definitely coming back as a regular! As a matter of fact, I text 5 of my closest friends to call Shu for an appointment because that's how good she is!! =D $80 for a 90 minute massage at such a reasonable price! I have NEVER experienced anything but kindness, warmth, great energy, professionalism and her compassion for people, especially those in pain. This was the best massage I've experienced in my life. First off, this is one of those hidden gems that I'm glad I found. I called the day of and Shu was able to accommodate me. My back has been killing me for a couple months from working out and by the end of the massage, I felt so much better afterwards. She really cares and gives you her honest opinion. During the massage, she'll ask you about the amount of pressure she's putting on your back so let her know if it's too much or too little. It was such a wonderful experience. I've been visiting Shu for many years. I'm a Home Inspector in the area and the crawlspaces really tear up my body. When ever I need a tune up I go see Shu. She relaxes me, gets all the kinks & knots out and puts me back together. I wish I had time to see her weekly. In 2015 I needed rotator repair. The Dr. said he would likely only be able to repair 2 tears. The other tear had too much atrophy. The night before my surgery I saw Shu. The next after noon when I woke up from surgery the Dr said he was able to fix all 3 tears...... I've tried a few massage places now here in Elk Grove and finally found the most awesome massage therapist, Shu Chen! She is amazing. You will not have to deal with those pesty hard sales receptionists that completely ruin your massage and keep you from relaxing, and you will feel relaxed yet energized after Shu's massage. She not only listened to my main concern, which was the typical neck and shoulder pain but she found and massaged out other knots in my back which seemed to improve my posture. She worked out the knots rather than work on them for a little bit then tell me I need to come in every week or every couple of weeks to get the knots out like those chain massage stores only interested in reeling you in to get as much money as they can out of you. One of my coworkers recommended Healthyland Spa b/c of the masseuse and decent price and I am so glad that I took his advice! I made an appointment with Shu's husband and they were able to accommodate me at the time and day I requested. Shu is an amazing masseuse. When I receive massages at other places, the masseuse does not focus on my problematic area; however, Shu did the opposite. I choose the one hour massage for around $40. Before giving me a massage, she examined me and could feel how tense my shoulders and back were. I mentioned to her that this is my problematic area and would love for her to focus on just my shoulders and back. And guess what?! She listened to my request. She has powerful, strong hands and the amount of pressure was very relaxing and relieved my tension. If you do not like the amount of pressure, she always reminds you to let her know.
