I really wanted to love this place, but it has fallen a little short for me both times I have visited. When you walk in, the place is beautiful- sort of modern rustic chic with beautiful string lights. We ordered mussels and wine to start. Mussels were fantastic. Meaty, flavorful and plenty for everyone. The entree is where it fell short for me. I got the shrimp pasta. While the flavor was there, when I cut into the shrimp they still looked pretty translucent to me. After eating one and cutting up a few others, I felt that they were undercooked. The waitress said they wouldn't cook them more but she could bring the plate back and ask if they were cooked through. My plate came back and I was told they were cook so I sat there pushing soft, nasty shrimp around my plate while just eating spaghetti. My boyfriend asked for a medium burger and it was definitely rare to medium rare. When this happens, generally you offer to bring out new protein cooked again or ask if the guest wants something else but I was just left to feel like I was nuts. Whatever, into dessert. Now for dessert, I thought we'd try the cookies and ice cream. cookies were completely raw ( not just soft) and also not hot and the ice cream on the plate looked like it was pre scooped and refrozen. The hummus plate we shared was so tasty and my salmon was cooked perfectly. We thought we'd have to wait for our food since there was a private party in the back but everything was timed nicely. Grove at Briar Barn Inn was a great destination for my mother's birthday celebration! The setting is warm and inviting, with rustic elegance that feels both sophisticated and cozy. I forget our waitress's name, but the entire service staff was genuine and attentive. On the food, the mussels were the star of the night, with a tarragon and white wine broth that was completely polished off. Personally, I found the majority of the dishes were ~almost~ great. The steak frites were cooked to perfection, but didn't have the punch of flavor I was looking for. The pork chop, on the other hand, had a nice spicy maple honey glaze, but was just overcooked and a bit dry. All the deserts were a great cap-off to the meal, not too sweet but a nice diverse set of flavors. not suggested for a large group. had made a reservation for a work dinner at Grove. about half of the team was not local and was staying at Briar Barn. there were 14 of us total seated in a separate area to the right of the main dining room - no one else in the space. 10 people were at one setting (3 small tables pushed together) and 4 at a both behind us. we asked if we could push another table up to the group of 10 but we were told they're not allowed to move furniture. not sure how valid it is that they "can't move furniture" but it seemed like they just didn't want to try and make it an enjoyable experience for our party when I highly doubt that room is typically setup with one table for 10 and two booths. would have been nice for our team to sit all together. read more

We made a reservation on a Thursday night for dinner. We were seated immediately inside and given waters and menus. Atmosphere is Rustic barn with cozy vibe. We were the 4th table in the annex room and our waitress was busy. Took about 10 minutes-before she came by for drink orders but you could see she was busy so no issue. Started with the clam chowder and calamari appetizer. Chowder was served hot which is a major bonus for me. Was creamy and delicious with hints of bacon and plenty of clams. Calamari was some of the best i have had. Love that it was served with fried veggies like zucchini and tomato as well because I'm never a fan of the traditional cherry peppers. I got the pasta primavera. The pasta was cooked perfectly. Veggies were tender and flavored nicely. Mushroom rigatoni was fabulous. Great mushroom flavor. Dessert was lemon ricotta cake with blueberries. Cake was moist and dense like a pound cake. Lemon flavor was perfect with blueberries and vanilla ice cream. Perfect ending! Service was excellent. What a disappointment!! Had dinner at the Grove for Thanksgiving and our entire party thought the food was underwhelming. The "dessert buffet" was a joke. They had a few mini pies (smaller than TableTalk ones) and they were dried out and unappealing. And. they didn't serve whipped cream or anything. Grove has a special place in my heart, and has become a go-to special occasion meal for our family. We ran into Grove while searching for a wedding venue (if you are an engaged couple, you WILL want to check this one out!), and have revisited many times since our initial tour. While their food is some of the best in the area, what gets me every time is how incredible their service is. Their staff is some of the best - always attentive, friendly, and really make sure that you feel special. I am always impressed with how unique their menu is and how many vegetarian options they also offer. Great wine and cocktails, too! Had Brunch at The Grove today. 10 of us celebrating a birthday. Despite the restaurant's stunning ambience the food was underwhelming at best. The eggs were pathetic looking, the croissants were stale, and the presentation was just unpleasant. Even the pancakes were dry! To make matters worse, the coffee was lukewarm and weak. Overall, the experience was a letdown. Subpar food especially for the price. There are plenty of better brunch spots out there--skip this one. read more

We have been to Grove multiple times and have always returned because of the food and service. Tonight we shared the calamari, one of our favorite dishes, and this was one of the best preparations. The batter was extremely light and crunchy, more than most. We asked and received a small bowl of red spaghetti sauce to dip the calamari and they were spectacular. My wife had the pasta Primavera, which was delicious, except for one recommendation. The mushrooms were whole and they would have blended in better if they had been thinly sliced other than that the flavor and dish was excellent. I chose the monkfish and that was delicious as well with some very fresh veggies which made the whole dish wonderful. We both took home doggy bags, so we will continue to enjoy for another meal. Cocktails were a bit hit or miss, all of the cocktails that we ordered featured on the menu were good, however I ordered a classic gin gimlet and the bartender definitely did not know how to make one. It is gone fast and the server doesn't come back until breakfast is over. The best thing we ate were the pastries they buy from A&J King. We were all surprised there is no French toast available. Also, no specials. The pancakes were dense and nothing special. The tostada dish was quite bad. It is an awful imbalance of sweet and sour. The eggs were ice cold on top from sitting in the salsa too long and a puddle of water at the bottom. Waitress never came by to see if it was good. Wow, really surprised with all the 1 and 2 star reviews. My family and I came in for Brunch this past weekend. We are considering Briar Barn Inn for our wedding. Because we are from California and we were leaving later that day, we wanted to get a sneak peak of the place, but also try the food. The food did not disappoint. My fiance's mom's BLT was a good size, and she loved it. The chips were oversalted, but the pickles had a great flavor. My fiance's breakfast sandwich looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. The hash that was served with it was fried perfectly and they were the perfect side to the dish. I kept sneaking bites. My daughter's chicken tenders with fries was fried perfectly, and tasted great. I love the breading they use- light and just the right amount. I ordered the lox bagel, and it was delicious. Served with a side salad, a ton of capers (just the way I like it), and the creme fraiche was amazing. Service was a little slow, but our waitress was great. Checked in on us, made sure we had everything we needed and was so professional and welcoming. Another thing we noticed while we were there was the staff looked happy to be there. That always says something to me when the staff looks happy. The decor of this place is drop-dead gorgeous. I loved everything about it. It is new, and I always like to let them work out their kinks before critiquing so harshly. But we personally, really didn't have any kinks! I think you should definitely try it. We love The Grove! Last night I got to introduce a friend to The Grove for the first time! We were greeted and seated promptly! The vibe here is so homey, rustic elegance! Our server was friendly and attentive. My martini was absolutely perfect! I don't say that very often but was just so well balanced! We started with the charcuterie board, the highlight was the Brie which was really exceptional! For dinner I went with the burger which was cooked correctly and served with bacon jam! The fries are heavenly, hot and crisp! I finished half and the leftovers made an excellent meal today! My dining companion enjoyed the roast half chicken, which she said was also excellent. We were much too full for dessert but the couples around us were enjoy some desserts which looked amazing. Something for everyone on this menu from homemade pasta to classic comfort food and locally caught seafood. Be sure to make a reservation or you may be disappointed, especially on the weekends. I had the pleasure of trying the Grove at Briar Inn while in the area visiting family. It is a lovely property that contains an inn, a spa and the restaurant. Definitely a hidden gem in the small town of Rowley. The restaurant was quite busy on a rainy Wednesday night and thankfully we had a reservation for our party of 8. We were seated promptly and received water and menus. After that, the service became very slow. The servers were lovely but clearly had too many tables. It took forever to place orders and get drink refills. Luckily we were catching with family members so it wasn't a huge deal. The menu was excellent and apparently it rotates. Definitely a focus on farm to table and it was evident that the dishes were crafted with high quality ingredients. They have a nice wine list as well with very reasonable prices. Since we had such a large group, we are able to try a lot of the menu items. Everything was beautifully presented and the portions were plentiful without being overwhelming. For starters, the garlic bread was perfect. Really great bread that made the garlic bread stand out. We also had the calamari, caprese salad as well as the salmon rillette. All were delicious but the rillette was the stand out. For mains, I highly recommend the pork chop! It was perfectly cooked and served with a delicious butternut squash mixture. Others had the fried chicken, the short ribs, carbonara pasta and the fluke. All of it was amazing and everyone was happy. The only item that was a little sad was the veggie sandwich. It was small and had minimal veggies. It just looked a tired sandwich from the corner store and certainly not worth the price being charged. All in all, I highly recommend the Grove! It's a beautiful space with delicious food and hopefully they will be able to be fully staffed in the future to help alleviate the service issues. I came here with friends for a pre Holiday dinner. This was my second time dining at the Grove. The barn style atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered steak frites as my entree. After about ten minutes of receiving my entree, to my disappointment and disgust, i realize d that I was chewing on a tangled piece of hair in my french fry. Ugh. I informed the waiter who profusely appologized for incident and inconvenience. He quickly brought back the food to the kitchen and informed the manager. The waiter and the manager did what they needed to do. My dinner and my cocktail was removed from the bill. But after that experience, I totally lost my appetite. I did question if the fries were purchased frozen or made in house. They said they were in house fries. So I guess that answers where the hair came from. read more

A lovely place for brunch!! my friend, and I both had frittatas and lattes. The service was warm and fantastic, and the place had a barn like feeling, but classy and elegant, airy, and spacious, but buzzy. It also has a bit of a resort feeling because there's an attached spa after brunch. We sat in this area with a gas fireplace and it was so relaxing. I felt like I was on vacation at a spa. I would definitely recommend it and I would go back. I also suggest making a reservation because it's popular enough that you want to make sure there's a place for you. I would love to go back. Love love love Grove! Recently dined here for the second time with my boyfriend to celebrate a promotion. We visited before for a Sunday brunch which was amazing. We found this restaurant while searching wedding venues and it is absolutely gorgeous inside. Our waitress was amazing, I wish i remembered her name!! We started with the calamari and burrata, both so fresh and delicious. I was so pleased to see that not only do they offer mocktails now but they carry alcohol free spirits. I tired all 3 of their new 0 proof cocktails. I got the pasta carbonara for my meal, so warm and the perfect comfort food on a cold night. My boyfriend got the hot honey fried chicken dinner, oh my goodness it was the best fried chicken either of us have ever had. Lastly we ended the meal with dessert. I got the crème brûlée which was so good, the fresh pumpkin whipped crème and the maple cookie on top! They couldn't write on the plate as all desserts are in a bowl but they added a candle on top of my boyfriends ice cream with his cookies for his promotion.
