Went to Calabogie for a ski trip and stopped by Black Bird Cafe for dinner. I got their salmon and it was amazing! The servers were super nice and it was a great place to eat after a nice long day of skiing. I would come here again to try their other dishes! read more

Super cute cafe and restaurant! We ordered boozy coffees and some treats to share. Coffees were nice and strong! Very sweet service and quaint atmosphere. Set in an old century building with cute old timey nicknacks everywhere. Loved the banana chocolate cake, rich but not too sweet. Had a bite of the pumpkin cheesecake which was also delicious and perfect for this brisk fall day. All of the lunch items coming out of the kitchen looked very tasty and fresh. The place was also packed which was a great sign ;) will absolutely return if I am in the area again! read more

My husband and I have been going to Calabogie & area for years and for some reason we had never been to the Blackbird Cafe. I regret this. I wish we had stopped for lunch every time we were in the area. This place was fantastic! I ordered the chicken tacos and my husband had the open-faced steak sandwich and they were both incredible!!!! The chicken taco was simple yet perfectly put together and perfectly cooked so as to make it one of the best I've ever had. Both dishes came with a salad and a soup and they were both amazing. We also got a chocolate banana cake and not only was the piece HUGE and decadent, it was not overly sweet. We managed to eat it all without feeling like the sugar would sit grossly in our bellies. It gets busy really fast and is not a very big place so make a reservation or get there as soon as it opens!!!! read more

Just went for dinner here, the prices have gone up dramatically. Portions are still huge but $42 for a steak.......ouch.

Shared a lunch meal with a friend and was very pleased with the service, portions and quality of the food. Extremely happy with the scratch made food. Nothing pre-packaged or pre-made. Restaurants that care to make their food from scratch get lots of stars from me. read more

I went away for a weekend by myself for a little r&r. Staying over 4 hours from home. Blackbird cafe was recommended by my airbnb hosts as one of their top favorites. The first night I went I ordered the sweet chili and Brie Burger. My first thoughts when I went in to pick up my food was how adorable this place was. I loved the atmosphere. So much character and so cozy. Secondly, the cook (which I also believe may be the owner) and the other staff (which may or may not be the cooks mom, but I'm not positive) were extremely friendly. They seem to take great pride in their food, in their establishment and seem to really appreciate their customers. As I was picking up my burger, I couldn't decide on their house-made desserts so I bought both the pecan pie and the carrot cake. I am a huge foodie and I'm very rarely impressed. I was so absolutely impressed by the food. I really loved that the burger came with salad and a side homemade soup. I'm not one for French fries. The homemade soup was absolutely delicious. The burger was amazing. Portion size was huge. I was blown away by the pecan pie that I ate half of that night, and the rest for breakfast. I was so impressed by the food that I decided to also get dinner from the Blackbird the second night I was in town. This time, I decided on the steak with mushrooms. They had ran out of garlic mashed potatoes, so I opted for the orzo pilaf. Again, staff was extremely friendly. My steak was absolutely cooked to perfection (rare), the mushrooms had a great flavor, steak had a great flavor. The orzo palif was absolutely amazing. There were plenty of seasonal veggies, and all were cooked perfectly, in my opinion (not soft or mushy). I ordered another pecan pie to bring home to my son, and a slice of the coconut cream pie, which I won't taste until I pick up my son. Judging by all the other food, I'm sure it will be just as amazing. The carrot cake, which I had for dessert after my steak, was absolutely amazing. I am sad that this place is not closer to home. I would 100% be a regular. If I'm ever in the area again, I will be back. In fact, I may be back at the airbnb more so to eat the amazing food at the blackbird cafe. read more

I really wanted to like this place. We stopped in for a quick bite on our way to the cottage and were able to grab a table before a reservation was to arrive. The decor is great and in line with the cafe's rural setting and it's clear that the owners have taken the time to prepare unique menu items. I ordered the chicken stuffed with goat cheese and asparagus would my boyfriend ordered the cod. Both dishes were beautifully plated, but essentially flavourless. My "stuffed" chicken breast was actually just sliced in half and held together with a toothpick. The vegetables accompanying the dishes were most likely flash frozen as opposed to fresh and the roasted potatoes were unevenly roasted. The service was curt but not unfriendly, possibly owing to the fact that we didn't have a reservation. For $60 without a starter or drinks, I expected more. read more

A cute little restaurant decorated with beautiful decor and little antiques all around. Definitely worth stopping in to admire even if just for a drink. The food itself was very tasty and made with love. I had the fish tacos with pineapple salsa which was very nice and had a great variety of flavours packed into it. My girlfriend had the smoked meat sandwich which was great also- the meat was savoury and the the rye bread was perfect with it, nice and soft but chewy on the exterior. It came with a nice side salad and hearty turkey soup. It came up to about $45 in total which was a little more than expected but it was we'll worth it for the food, experience and unique environment. Would definitely come back to try more menu items or just stop in for a coffee when passing by. read more

On our annual visit for our Anniversary we had a good dinner.Started with seared scallop salad with a maple balsamic dressing.I had the Blackbird chicken a breast stuffed with spinach red pepper and gorganzola cheese wrapped in prosciutto served with orzo and seasonal vegetables.My other half had pan fried catfish with roast potatoes and vegetables.There servings are huge so you might want to consider sharing you app or main dish. I have had the pleasure of dining at the Blackbird Cafe on 2 occasions. It is my new favourite restaurant. From the warm and cozy setting to the fabulous food, this is one place you have to try. The food is prepared to perfection and the chocolate pecan cheesecake is to die for. I would recommend this establishment to anyone wanting to experience an amazing meal in a warm setting. read more
