Thank you for being quick responders to my boy. Last month I brought my boy Tarantino to urgent care for some urinary blockage issues. This is my second experience taking him to urgent care for this issue but my first time in this side of the country, and first experience with Heart & Soul. I called and they told me i could bring him in asap, upon arriving they greeted me and took T in the back and had him taken to get seen immediately. I filled out paper work, and when it came time I met with the dr and left. As scared as I was for my boy, the initial meeting went well enough I felt comfortable leaving and waiting for a call for when they would update me on his status. T had to get taken to an overnight hospital so they called me when he was ready for pick up. When I arrived I was told about the situation and one of the staff came out and talked to me about my boy and how he was kind of scared but found comfort in her. And that just made me feel even more comfortable that they would treat my boy like their own. And just know that there was someone looking out for him that he felt safe with. During such a scary time that peace of comfort really eased my mind a lot. Being new to the area I'm not too familiar with the area and they were able to contact a hospital to bring my boy to receive trusted overnight medical care. They did all that stressful work for me. I just had to pick him up and take him, which I was fine with. My poor baby was connected in tubes and medicated. I don't ever want him alone. I can't thank you all for the service you provided. My boy has been doing well since we have him on a prescription diet. He's enjoying the view from the window and has been very cuddly since. We went to Heart and Soul in a panic last night when our dog's eye swelled completely shut out of the blue. Sunny, was very helpful. Her calm demeanor helped us calm down too. Although they couldn't get us in last night (and nowhere else we called could either) she gave us good advice on how to get through, and got us an appointment first thing this morning. This morning they saw her promptly, and figured out what was wrong. Sadly, she had a foxtail stuck in her eye and a cornea abrasion that's pretty bad! (Don't get me started on Portland people who need to clean up their yards and sidewalks - these are super detrimental to dogs.) What I most appreciated was the very clear instructions from the vet tech on how to care for her, what changes to look for, and how to dose the medication. Hopefully we won't need urgent care again, but if we do I'd definitely go back to Heart and Soul. read more

We have had some good experiences here with our dogs with their care. We also have had poor experiences here. So I would say it really depends on who is working in terms of all of their staff the days we have been there. I do wish they were more consistent in terms of how things go each time. Some of their vets are excellent and some less so. There is a parking lot which is good. Usually you need to schedule a head of time like the day of or the day before. The last time we went there we scheduled our dog the day before. Their prices are reasonable for urgent pet care. They are not good for an immediate emergency at least when we have tried. If it is a true immediate emergency go elsewhere. We definitely needed to schedule ahead of time. Not all the staff are good in these hard close to death dying situations. read more

I adopted a new dog who was seen here to rule out problem before I brought the dog home. I couldn't attend the appointment but in hindsight I should have been there and I would have been able to see the level of incompetence displayed because I am a nurse. This clinic caused my dog immeasurable harm and caused me undue stress and physical harm, my bed was ruined, my house was infested and worst of all I developed an extremely itchy and painful case of scabies that caused my immune system to over react which resulted in reactive arthritis, if you've ever developed this condition you know that it can incapacitate you and it's very painful. I missed work and had to hire help to clean and do laundry, meanwhile the dog is still suffering because its treatment was delayed for more additional time. All this because they were unable to diagnose a dog with a severe case of skin mites, so bad that his hair had fallen out and there was a secondary skin infection, so bad that a lay person could tell that the dog had mites, instead they prescribed an expensive medication for, they said, itching and allergy called Apoquel, which should NOT be given to dogs with skin mites, because it makes the problem worse, this was done simply to pad their bottom line and make the clinic extra money, I would bet they are trying to sell this to everyone who comes through the front door, look out people if any one wants to prescribe this medication, there needs to be a thorough exam and other problems must be ruled out first and then still I would not give this medication to my dog, the medication also caused at least one area of swelling on my dogs leg, noted by another veteranarian at a different clinic, their non existent knowledge about medications and the exam that they gave my dog leaves alot to be desired, of course I knew it was a waste of time to call and complain after the fact because I wasn't there, but when I did the director couldn't even pronounce the name of the medication correctly and actually said mites are not parasites ..wow .. there's a huge gaping lack of basic knowledge obvious there or was she thinking that I'm stupid...? She of course denied any responsibility for any of it. Then told me that " I " insulted her intelligence because she didn't know mites were actual skin parasites, then actually told me my dog isn't welcome back at their clinic... like I would ever bring my dog back to their clinic, needless to say not in a million years and I am here to warn other people to never patronise this clinic or you'll be sorry....! read more

They took very good care of my dog when she sprained her front paw. They were able to get her in to be seen same day. The vet called me shortly after drop off and very clearly explained the treatment options with associated costs, and the total cost of care was extremely reasonable. We will definitely come back for future urgent needs! read more

I wish I knew about this place years ago! My default has always been dove Lewis, but I haven't always needed that level of urgency. This place is super convenient, has good pricing, and good customer service. They made it very clear that the $115 deposit was non refundable. We were able to get a same day appointment. I called at 8, got an appointment for 8:30. Payment and paperwork were easy, and my pet was there for a couple of hours. We were allowed to leave while he was seen, grabbed breakfast, and the vet called us to go over everything. Fortunately not a serious situation, but I can see this being a facility we use when things come up and our normal vet is not available. Super glad they are here!! read more

I don't believe the clinicians here have bad intentions but my experience was extremely negative and, unfortunately, harmful to both me and my pet. I adopted a bonded pair of kittens and about a month after adoption one of them became extremely lethargic and stopped eating. When I realized how serious the case was I took him to Heart and Soul. Their phone screening included a lot of questions and as soon as I mentioned he sometimes had goopy eyes that became their primary focus. Despite his total lack of appetite for days and clear illness their entire plan of care was to prescribe eye drops. They said that if he still wasn't eating or using the litter box in a few more days I should bring him back. A day later his symptoms became more severe and I rushed him to Dove Lewis in the middle of the night. After 10 hours of true emergency care they determined that my little guy had FIP. He was clearly jaundiced and obviously incredibly ill. Unfortunately, he was just too small and weak to make it and he passed away the next morning, at Dove Lewis. I know Heart and Soul could not have prevented or treated what was ultimately a terminal illness. I'm not suggesting his passing was their fault. However, they either missed or didn't investigate very clear signs that my kitten was in severe medical distress. Their plan of care was completely inappropriate and I feel terrible that on our last day together I was wasting time and energy trying to give my sick little guy pointless eye drops. Would there have been any treatment options if we'd identified his condition a few days earlier? Could I have made his last days more comfortable? I don't know, but I do know that Heart and Soul failed both of us when I went to them in crisis. For this total lack of care and attention I was billed nearly $650. If you are going to spend hundreds or thousands on emergency care you may as well go to Dove Lewis where you will at least get care worth the massive bill. I miss you, little Chip. read more

My partner and I had Heart and Soul recommended to us by someone who worked at the Oregon Humane Society and I wish we did our own research before going. My cat Phoebe had thrown up multiple times on Tuesday (6/24) and Heart and Soul was the only place that could get her in asap, which was the 25th. I paid $126 for a "full" check up for her which I thought was a really good price. We get the call back that she was dehydrated and was on the skinny side but nothing else looked concerning. They seemed to be really focused on the fact that she had diarrhea 5 days BEFORE her appointment so they gave us a probiotic and anti-nausea and we took her home $261 later. She kept down her food for the rest of the day and into the next morning and seemed to be doing a lot better. On my break I go into my room, where she was, and there was throw up on the floor. I call my partner in and as they walk in she starts throwing up again. I go into panic mode and call Heart and Soul. They tell me that everything is fine and to call them tomorrow if her symptoms continue. Here is where it goes down hill. Phoebe threw up 6 more times after that, wouldn't drink or eat, didn't want to be touched, and was hiding from us. We rushed her Dove Lewis and got her in to see the doctor. We find out that her body went into shock and was shutting down on her. After 5 hours of waiting, X-rays, and blood tests we find out her only options were a surgery that was 10k or euthanasia. Our little Phoebe passed away in our arms on the 26th. If I had waited any longer like Heart and Soul recommended, she would've died painfully. read more

Pet guardians BEWARE! We were advised to euthanize our pet after many tests and hours of heartache. They thought she had: Anorexia, lethargy, severe pancreatitis (+/- necrotizing), sepsis (abdominal abscess, GI FB/obstruction), and neoplasia/cancer. They ran: CBC/chemistry and Abdominal radiographs. The X-ray showed enlarged. kidneys and suspicious material in pylorus of stomach that may represent foreign material. They said there was nothing they could do for her and said couldn't get IV in because her veins were collapsing. The suggestion for euthanizing was offered with the choice of transfer but emphasized costs and compassionate end of life. We transferred her for hospitalization at Dove Lewis. We are grateful to the vet and team at Dove Lewis and can't say enough about the quality of service and professionalism we received. They were thoughtful and properly diagnosed our cat with an acute and severe bout of pancreatitis. Our pet is home and recovering slowly but making progress. The vet at Dove Lewis thought the compassionate end care recommendation was too soon, especially given there was no proper diagnosis. And apparently my cat's veins were NOT collapsing as Heart and Soul charged us for several units of IV catheter and my cat has several places throughout her body where they shaved her and she is bruised. Losing a pet is just as traumatic as losing someone beloved. In these moments when you're scared and sad, we look to qualified professionals to assist with proper care and recommendations for treatment. We did not find that here. read more

Kind, caring and compassionate staff. My dog suddenly began to exhibit signs of distress, but I didn't know if it was from illness or possibly an unknown injury. I was very stressed and anxious when wer arrived, but the vet tech instantly put me at ease. Because of COVID-19, pet owners aren't allowed in the building, you either wait in your vehicle, or leave and wait for them to call you with diagnosis/ test results. Within about 90 minutes the doctor called and gave me a summary (not terrible news, thankfully!) She was absolutely awesome! She explained everything clearly and thoroughly, and patiently answered several questions I had. I was also relieved that their fees are very reasonable for walk-in urgent/emergency care. I highly recommend this clinic. Hopefully, I'll never have a pet in need of Urgent Care again, but if I do, we're coming here! read more

Literally the only place I will take my pets in an emergency. The staff is compassionate, patient and attentive to details. The wait is not long at all. Your animal will be cared for with expertise and not greed (unlike that other place which shall not be named). They are very experienced and do not upsell services. Heart and Soul provided excellent service at a reasonable price. My afghan hound's eye had excessive discharge that started after her normal vet closed. This wouldn't be something we'd go to the ER for, but we wanted her to be seen within a day or two. I'm grateful that an urgent care clinic exists for these situations. We called in the morning and got an afternoon appointment. There was some waiting since her case wasn't as severe as other patients but she was still in and out within a couple hours. The staff communicated with us every step of the process and sent us home with meds and an e-collar. I hope we don't need to return any time soon but we have the peace of mind that this place is here if we need it. read more

I had to speak with multiple-staff members to get the matter resolved, and each time I questioned a cost, or asked for an itemized bill they were rude. When I asked for the blood work results, they admitted the blood work wasn't done, though I had been charged for it. I wanted to feel so good about going there, but It just felt like they didn't really have their act together- Probably the vets are good, but the staff was untrustworthy, and I walked away feeling they were more concerned in the money than the care. My 13-year old dog got ill very suddenly. We were able to get him in first thing in the morning with no appointment. I'm sorry to say the little guy didn't make it. They were able to get us in for a same-day appointment were very kind and caring on the phone, explained their process and made us feel supported. Buyer beware! They will try to make you spend all your money. I think your pet will get great care here, however, they will try to get you to take as many X-rays and tests that they can get you to agree to. The tech was very nice and treated my cat very nicely, but it's the doctor who was a problem. They do not care about your budget. Also, in my case, they told me they had an opening, come right away, then I had to wait for hours, was an all day affair. Which can be oK for emergencies, but DISHONEST on their part...just to get you in there. the doctor talked to me about pain and inflammation medications, I told him the 2 that I wanted and thought would be best for my pet, and they put all 3 in the bag and charged me. Had to then get a refund of the one I did not want which took more time and they behaved like they had never done a refund before. I was able to keep my bill to below $300 and they told me to never come back again. I'm pretty sure that hardly anyone walks out of this clinic for less than a $1000...is their goal. Our Labrador scratched his eye on a bush, and it got worse on the week end. Our vet recommended we take him to an Urgent care since they were closed for the week end. They recommended Heart and Soul. They were able to schedule him quickly. They have an excellent online scheduling and payment system. They explained everything very clearly, and made us feel very comfortable with their drop off process. Once they determined issue, the vet called and explained the corneal ulceration and recommended treatment. The staff made a stressful situation, and long day so much easier. The exceptional and caring staff of Heart & Soul went above and beyond to help with my dog's emergency. I have a Shiba Inu who has been having issues with her left eye. After being misdiagnosed from a previous veterinary clinic, and having just moved here, I was desperately looking for an animal hospital who could see my fur baby in a timely manner. This clinic, even though being incredibly busy, was able to take us that same day and to do a thorough assessment of her condition. They were also able to correctly diagnose and treat her symptoms. We were sent home with a care package and thorough instructions on how to administer the medications needed. I'm so happy to say that she is on the road to recovery and we will be coming back for a follow up exam. Things to note: this clinic is first come first serve so I definitely recommend getting there a few minutes before they open & calling them once you get there so you can get signed up right away. The staff was unbelievably kind and caring, Dr. Jackie was trustworthy and calm, gentle. I genuinely cannot believe what the staff here must endure every day. I just moved into the area and my 15-year-old kitty became ill rather suddenly. Having owned a pet sitting business for 17 years, I suddenly missed knowing a network of veterinary professionals like I do back home. I called a vet who had been recommended to me by a few locals. The vet office referred me to Heart and Soul Urgent Care. Thank goodness for that. This facility is highly responsive, organized, professional, has the right staff and excellent procedures in place. Dr. Hunter is thorough, caring and did her due diligence. She helped me review my options. Unfortunately, due to the age of my kitty and his life experience with health challenges, I decided to humanely euthanize him. Dr. Hunter and her team were loving, gentle and skilled. They had the correct medications, and a calm, safe environment for me and my kitty son. I will be ever grateful. Thank you all! I had such an amazing experience here! my cat had a rectal prolapse and they were able to get her in right away. They were so informative! Especially Jeff one of the nurses assistants. The service seemed reasonable, the vet seemed somewhat knowledgeable. But at the end of the day they where "short staffed" and I had to wait for over 2 hours in my vehicle. Sun was shining, dog was hot in the car while I waiting to drop off for over an hour. Come right on time to pick her up and I have now been here for an hour. Horrible customer service; wouldn't recommend besides the fact that their one of the only urgent cares accepting same day. If that is who they have representing them on first contact of their business I cannot recommend. On top of her horrible customer service skills, she tried to rack up unnecessary charges in our time of need. Wanted hundreds of dollars in extra tests because our 7 week old puppy (had her for less than 24 hours), was not fully vaccinated. I contacted a different vet office and they didn't even need me to bring the puppy in. Talk about a different perspective. Heart and Soul actually on other side of town for me and never would have ventured so far had i not had to. But I am certainly glad i did because this vet took exceptional care of my cat as well as myself when i was stressed trying to get him picked up and forgot my wallet. My corgi was having trouble putting weight on his right front leg. My vet couldn't get him in for over a week, but sent me a list of animal urgent care businesses. Heart & Soul was on the list. I saw that they had good reviews, and called them. They were able to get Charlie in the same day. I wasn't too sure about their model of pet owners not being able to go inside (drop off animal, contact with vet is by phone, pick up later), but Dr. Hogan was amazing. She examined him and asked me a lot of questions and diagnosed the problem and came up with a treatment plan, and asked me to schedule a follow up exam with my regular vet in two weeks. While Charlie was in there, she also tended to his paws, which were irritated from the pitch in my yard from my large fir trees, and told me how to care for them. Heart & Soul will definitely be my go-to urgent care when Charlie's regular vet can't get him in. read more

I was schedule to fly out Monday evening and on Sunday I noticed very bloody stools from my cat. I postponed my trip until Wednesday and called 4 or 5 vets with no luck. Most weren't taking new patients. I got a tip from a friend who works at a veterinary office to call heart and soul. They only make same day "loose" appointments and you wait in your car with your pet until they can see you. I called 10 minutes after they opened and was the 11th person in the queue. My "appointment" was at 1 pm. We arrived and waited a little over an hour and within an hour- 1.5 got a call directly from the vet taking car of bucket. She was sooooo great! Very friendly and helpful, providing all prices with each suggestion of treatment option. They let me know that their prices are in between that of a regular vet and an emergency vet like dove Lewis. They needed about an hour to give him fluids and pull together his meds.... All in all I think he was there for 4 hours. The cost just to see the cat was 95$ and the treatment of fluids, probiotics and anti-diarrheal cost 200$. My total cost was $300 and was well worth it for the speed of the appointment and the peace of mind before I left for my trip. They did say that they treat animals based on how severe their condition is, so I got the earliest appointment offered, since from what I read, he might have to wait a while. They also offered anti-anxiety meds if the animal was really worked up. I can't stress enough how comforting the vet I spoke with was. I am so impressed with the staff and doctors at Heart and Soul. I am a dog mom and I was watching a friend's dog for a few weeks. My friend's dog had had recent surgery and his stitches just were not healing after one month. Additionally, he was able to get to his stitches to pull them out. Being a holiday weekend, our options were limited. I called Heart and Soul and they were sincere and supportive about the situation. They explained the process and I made an appointment. Dr. Houser was incredibly thorough in the procedure and calling me to explain the measures she took. All in all, these stitches look far better than the ones the regular vet clinic has done. If you want to pretend we are still deep in the pandemic, this is your place. It's 11/23, and you can't even go in the lobby. Let alone be a comfort to your scared pet in the exam room. Yes, they spell this out, but when other places have a 1 month + wait, there is little choice. Assumed that since they were a hospital, they would have expertise in areas that a regular vet would not. Not the case for eye issues as we wound up paying a high amount overall and a tiny (3ml) bottle of drops and a need for a referral elsewhere. read more

Nothing but great things to say about Heart and Soul. They are up front about all their processes, including that you might have a bit of a wait in your car. Payment is convenient and easy. I've taken my 15-year-old cat here twice due to chronic constipation. Dr. Dustin was SO VERY awesome and kind and explained over the phone what he recommended (pain med + enema in office and try Miralax, Lactulose, prescription wet food at home). Nothing was excessive or pushed on me. Fortunately, my cat passed his stool on his own at the clinic after getting the pain med, so they didn't charge me for an enema. I see this as honesty and integrity of a practice. My cat came home cleaned up (poor guy had wet, yucky feces stuck to him when he came in) and was back to normal the next day. For some reason it was horrifically difficult to get our cat prophylaxis against rabies after he caught a bat. Our (now previous) veterinary clinic was a nightmare and ER clinics didn't have the rabies vaccine, as prophylaxis is technically urgent not emergent care. Heart and Soul was the only place that took us today. They followed standard of care per animal control, gave a rabies vaccine, examined our cat for puncture wounds/bites, and provided reassurance. They were so nice and professional! read more

Had a great experience! I was new to the area and I needed a vet to see my cat for an ear infection but most vets in the area are booked solid for months out at a time. Front office staff were very kind, I do not recommend taking your dog here if they have a flare in a chronic disorder and you know what works. I wouldn't recommend this place if you want to visit once and to find comprehensive level 1 next steps. I also wouldn't take my dog here if they have diarrhea unless you want a dewormer. My dog struggles with chronic soft stools and bouts of acute diarrhea semi regularly. Been working with vets on this his whole life. Most recently we moved him to a fresh diet. However, We just moved here from out of state. And a couple Sundays ago He had diarrhea like 8x in one day. I took him to heart and soul that day. After testing his stools and finding a single larvae that they insisted could be from debris that was in the sample, they prescribed him a dewormer. They also said to put him on a chicken and rice diet(I later found out that this diet is actually better for nausea and vomiting not diarrhea). This was from Sunday to Tuesday of last week (almost two weeks ago). We gave him the dewormer on 10 days ago. And kept him on a chicken and rice diet for a week straight. My dog still has diarrhea(one level 7 diarrhea each day). When this has happened in the past, vets have twice given him metronidazole and it made his poops get back to normal in 24 hours. I've explained this to Heart and Soul and they are suggesting that the only way they'll give any additional support is 1)a probiotic that I already used from over the counter 2)psyllium husk which I've also been trying and have because my dog has chronic digestion issues or 3) if i come back in and pay another $125 for him to be seen. They haven't even suggested a prescription diet. We already did a fecal exam. This is a classic case where metronidazole would be used and they won't do it. For someone financially struggling who has already spent $500, I feel like a basic courtesy is to try multiple low risk prescriptions (even prescription food) before requiring another $125 visit. Just a side note, my dog is acting very normal and has been still going on 5 mile walks a day. Still excited to see every human and creature. Anyway all this to say if your dog has a chronic condition and you know what works dont expect heart and soul to trust you and help you when something acute of that chronic illness comes up :/ as an aside if anyone knows a good vet to go to on a Sunday that actually trusts its clients please comment bc Juno I'm taking Juno in somewhere else and i just pray that they trust my experiential dog with my fur baby. read more
