Disappointed. I have family that comes here weekly and raves about this place. I absolutely love all mcloones restaurants. We figured let's go here for our 5th yr anniversary with our 1 yr old and 3 yr old. I made reservations stating it was our anniversary with two young kids which will need high chairs. The front staff told us there was a large party that just left and we would need to wait 20 mins or we could have a high top. A high top with high chairs do not work. We needed up going to a different restaurant down the street. Personally do not trust going here with kids anymore. read more

First time coming it today! Food: cheese curds, French onion, clam chowder, classic burger, and blue cheese burger. The burgers were so juicy and delicious. The soups tasted homemade not like they came out of a bag which I appreciate. The curds with hot honey were fantastic reminds me of a charcuterie board in a bite. My partner had an old-fashioned and he said it was one of the best he's ever had and he was a bartender for over 10 years big complement! Also, I got onion rings with my burger and they're the good ones the ones that were definitely made with a wet batter not like the gross Panko ones. The vibe is very cute. I was in town for a work event and had no idea what's good. My coworker and I were looking for something nicer, but not overly fancy. CJ Mcloones was just right. I ordered the mahi mahi which came with rice and zucchini. It was delicious. Felt comforting but still fresh and light. I got a side Betty salad and it was great. Came here two weeks ago as the rehearsal dinner for my friend and this place was really good. Food: they started off with calamari, wings, and meatballs as an appetizer which was INCREDIBLE. Some of the best wings I have had from a restaurant like this and the meatballs/calamari were above average. I ended up getting the salmon for dinner which was perfect. Service: the three waitresses (I apologize I only remember Shannon's name) were on top of EVERYTHING. It was honestly impressive how they were able to bounce around so quickly. This was the first time visiting this location and we went there for lunch. We arrived around 12: 00pm and there were a few customers but it was not busy at all. They were prepping for a party in the side room. Got sat at the mini little booth directly by the side door by the street over by the corner of the bar. It was a cute little seat for just the two of us. I would have liked to give more stars but a few things led me to only give three. The menu was pretty decent (sorry I forgot to take photos of everything) it had a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads and appetizers. The waitress came over within a few minutes and offered tap water. For an appetizer, we ordered the dip and chips. To be honest the dip itself came in a very small round dish there could have been a little more; The chips were homemade fried tortilla chips and they were crispy and good. For a drink, we both ordered the Woodford Old Fashioned -I will say this; that bartender made one of the best Old Fashioneds that I've had in a long time- it can be a hard drink to get right and she definitely got it right! For our lunch, I ordered the Connors BLT and my husband ordered the chicken pesto panini. Both sandwiches were delicious. The panini my husband said was very juicy and the bread was not too much. The BLT I really enjoyed, the sourdough bread was toasted perfectly and the bacon was nice and crispy. I know the sandwiches automatically come with chips but I swapped mine out for the sweet potato fries and they were good. The waitress was "okay", not overly friendly But could have been better- barely smiled. I did give her a 20% tip but I find it hard to find a really good attentive waitress doing her job as a server anymore. One thing that I will mention is that there was a customer sitting at the end of the bar when we got there, he was extremely friendly with the bartenders and they were conversating back and forth; BUT He was talking extremely loud and using foul language during the entire time and not only did he have no respect for the customers around him, the bartenders never said anything to him regarding his language. Maybe you have a customer who's a local and he tips very good but it was a major turn off and I'm not bothered by foul language but not when I'm sitting down trying to eat a nice lunch in a closed environment and I hear a big mouth at the bar dropping the f-bomb over and over and over. Dear CJ McLoone's Team, I recently visited your Red Bank/Shrewsbury location (10/19/2025) with my daughter for your Oktoberfest Menu and looked forward to trying the Wienerschnitzel. Unfortunately, the dish came out unbreaded, which was unexpected and quite disappointing--especially for a traditional menu item like that. I ate only half of one of the three cutlets before letting the server know I was disappointed, but my concern seemed to be disregarded. I was told the kitchen simply wasn't breading it that day. Crazy huh?!?!?! My server didn't offer a correction, substitute or adjustment, though he did ask if I wanted another glass of wine, which I accepted, assuming it might be a courtesy for the mix-up. However, no accommodation or credit was reflected on the final bill. The sides were fine and became my meal but overall, the handling of the situation felt inattentive and diminished the whole experience. Note: Upon my daughter finishing her meal the Server removed my plate along with the 2-1/2 unbreaded wienerschnitzel cutlets. smh...... I gave you two stars as to the atmosphere, but the product and service was terrible. I tipped well as that's who I am but noted disappointed on receipt. read more

Have been here a few times with groups of people, it's great for groups and good for an after work gathering/ appetizers. Today I was there for a work lunch. Their menu clearly notes what is gluten free or gluten free available as an option, which makes is super easy for me to order. I had the chopped salad with chicken, dressing on the side. Asked them to hold the pepperoncini but they were cut into pieces and buried in the salad so didn't notice until I was already 1/4 way into it and didn't want to wait for a replacement, so did not notify staff. Salad was crisp and fresh and the chicken was tender and well seasoned. Fries do not have a dedicated gluten free fryer, so if cross contamination is an issue for you, you'll need to avoid them. Me and my 2 girls were in for dinner last night. This was the first restaurant that I have seen in YEARS that uses Gruyere on their FRENCH onion soup!!! Cudos! Most places use swiss or mozzarella- and still call it FRENCH onion. That is a misnomer. The soup was superb. We also had the roasted brussel sprouts, burger (cooked to the right temperature) and the Cobb salad. All very good. The restaurant is sensitive to "gluten free" needs, and the waiter was also sure to write a gluten free guest on the order. Plenty of GF options. More Cudos! Waiter sometimes got caught up in conversations with guests, missing the needs of other guests. Though ordered at the same time, my coffee wasn't presented until I was 3/4 through my desert. I have been here in the past a few times and enjoyed it. Today, however, was a different experience. I came here to have a nice relaxed lunch with my mother and a close friend. My mom is disabled, and uses a walker and wheelchair. When we got there, we thought we would be in the main dining room but were right away informed that this room was not available due to a scheduled private event. This meant that we were limited to seating in the bar area, which was dark, noisy and had high seats at the tables. The high seats had no floor support so your legs are left dangling. For a person with a walking disability, this is an impossible setup. The staff would not accommodate us so we left and went to the Outback, which was a much better option for us. If CJ McLoones wants to mainly function as a private dining venue, they should advertise themselves as such. That dark, noisy bar area is not handicapped friendly. We will not be back and will spread the word about our experience. read more

Came here on Sunday for the Eagles game. First time back post the start of COVID... love the interior renovation. We were greeted immediately by the manager Craig. He let us know what TV was playing the Eagles game, helped us pick a seat, and reviewed the happy hour menu with us. He even pointed out a few house favorites. Craig was super attentive and ensured we and other guests were having a great time. Best manager in the business! Our waitress, Jazmin was sweet and let us take our time ordering. We had some yummy brussel sprouts, a bowl of turkey chili, and two flat bread buffalo chicken style.. along with a few beers. Everything was fantastic! Without reliance on a beachfront location this local restauranteur proves he can concept an eatery where the kitchen comes first without the nautical schtick that overwhelms some of his other seafaring properties - more like an intimate club than Gavin MacLoed's man cave. Add to that extremely consistent service and a modern, well-appointed bar area and you have an excellent option for lunch or dinner. A low-key choice and very highly recommended. read more

We sat down at the bar on a Friday night about a month or so ago at 6:20 pm and waited for a menu and waited and waited. The bar staff were clearly avoiding us. We asked the guys next to us for their menu and we saw that is was happy hour until 6:30. At around 6:28 we got one of the older bartender's attention and he handed us regular menus and said sorry happy hour is over. I worked in the industry for 8 years and never experienced anything like that as a customer or pulling a move like that as a bartender. Sooo tacky! I came in for a late lunch around 2pm. There was about 6 patrons at the bar. I ordered a shrimp Caesar salad. I waited 20 minutes as I watched the kitchen staff hang out with the wait staff. I finally asked the hostess if she could check on my order since the waiter was nowhere in sight. He finally reappeared with the salad with clearly uncooked shrimp on top. The renovation CJM's did a few years ago using stone, black accents and upgraded lighting is just beautiful. They've created a relaxing, upscale vibe. The food is the best of all the McLoone properties in my opinion, and has not disappointed. Service is courteous, professional and quick.
