Probably the worst Chinese restaurant food I have ever had. The menu items were without flavor and the ingredients seemed less than fresh. The fried dishes tasted of old overused oil. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. The interior of the place was industrial. Everything was served on paper or plastic. I ordered a coke and was brought a bottle. When I asked for a cup and ice they said they didn't have any. There was a man sleeping at an empty table when we arrived and he was still sleeping at the table when we left. We were in Gaithersburg shopping a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday, and decided to branch out to find a new Chinese restaurant. No one in the place, the people working in the restaurant seemed pleasant enough, our server spoke no English and the person at the counter had to get involved with our order. My hot and sour soup was only flavored with pepper, no vinegar, very brothy, no real substance as I'm accustomed to in our neighborhood Chinese restaurant in Kensington. Moo goo gai pan had very little vegetable matter, a lot of chicken breast pieces, perhaps 4 snow peas, a couple of pieces of carrot...bland, beige dish swimming in sauce...my husband had steamed tofu & vegetables, ok enough, sauce on side, meh...can't understand how this place gets such rave reviews. Judging from the good reviews, I must have ordered the wrong things, because my food was largely tasteless -- bland and unseasoned. I got the Mongolian pork, the spare ribs, chicken with lemon, chicken with mixed vegetables, and the vegetarian spring roll. Avoid these. On the plus side, quantity and price were excellent, but my feeling is that if the quality isn't there, the quantity doesn't matter, and whatever money was spent was wasted. I love Kung Pao chicken and can eat it anywhere but here. They use way too much corn starch which really is not needed and corn syrup which definitely is not needed. Not Hot at all and raised my blood sugar for 2 days. Not a place for diabetics to eat. read more

Twice out of the past 3 times I have ordered carryout, an item is found missing from the order when I get home. Anna, on the counter is very nice about the problems and has offered to deliver OR add additional items to next order for free. I opted for the freebies next order. I have been trying to find Chinese I like as much as City Lights or Shanghai in Bethesda for as long as I have lived in Gaithersburg (18 years). This place is it. I don't know how it stayed off my radar so long!!! Excellent steamed dumplings, amazing Chicken Broccoli, Spring Rolls to die for (not greasy like so many places), decent egg drop soup etc. Cannot understand why it has so few stars. I ordered delivery and the food came to my place in a reasonable amount of time and was hot. The man who took my order was very nice on the phone and was very friendly. I was very impressed with their hot and sour soup as it's spot on. Also there main dishes are incredible. The egg roll was just okay. I decided to finally try this place because it is so close to my house. My food was barely edible. The white meat general tso chicken was a sticky mess. The sauce was goopy and really sweet. I tried the shrimp toast because I haven't had it in so long and it was soggy and just tasted like gooey salt. I'm disappointed in this place. It was cheap but you get what you pay for unfortunately. After 2 years of affordable, good food, I will be taking my business elsewhere. Last week I got a large wonton soup which used to be a meal. Now it's mostly broth with small non-pork wontons. Today I had a lunch combo and noticed the name had changed. Kung pao chicken was different and 1/2 the amount, pork fried rice no longer has pork, and the shrimp egg roll was tiny and no shrimp. There were also several fruit flies around while I was eating. Much better options than this in the area. Shameful. RIP Hearty's, was nice while it lasted. read more

They give you a LOT of food. I've ordered from the combo menu and it's enough for 2-3 meals. The food is decent, about what you would expect from a chinese take-out. However, i like to judge a place by the orange/general tsos chicken. The chicken doesnt look store bought (like panda express) and it looks like they prep the mixture in-house. Oh, and they put shrimp in the egg roll which not a lot of places do. Other places skimp out on the egg roll and just put cabbage in there. Not Hearty's! They give you that extra detail and put in a couple of shrimp pieces for you. read more

I ordered delivery, and it came within the expected time. All the food was hot and seemed fresh. So onto the actual order, they got half of it wrong: I ordered "Beef Chow Mein" and they sent some beef/celery/onion stir fry with a box of rice instead. This is fairly disappointing since the rest of my order was rice and I had been wanting some noodles. The stir fry didn't taste like anything, just kind of bland and salty. The other part of my order, "Beef with Chinese Vegetables Combination Platter," was okay, but once again somewhat bland and the rice was sort of greasy. It did come with an eggroll and some yellowish dry noodles (I guess to sprinkle over the food?), but the eggrolls was pretty bland and the yellowish noodles tasted stale and old (rancid?). The saving grace is they give you so much food for the price, I just purchased some veggies from the supermarket and re-stir fried the leftovers to make it more tasty. There was enough food for me to have leftovers for dinner the entire week and leftovers for lunch once or twice. So, I wouldn't order here again simply because of the error (I don't trust them to deliver the right food now) and lack of any taste beyond salty. 2 stars because of the price and portion sizes. read more

We used to order from Hearty's for years and the food was very good. When we made our last order in December 2017 the quality of the food was significantly lower. Some entrees we previously ordered were removed from the menu. The eggdrop and wonton soups which we ordered many times in the past now tasted bland and had much less wontons. Other entrees like their chow main and beef with vegies were tasteless. Hearty's was once our favorite restaurant but it appears they might of changed cooks or ownership. I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a few different dishes just to try this place since they posted a menu on our door. I could NOT believe the amount of food. Four entrees and a free item that I had not even asked about. Chicken wings were whole...deep fried ...very good. The General tso's was outstanding. I also ordered the beef and brocolli very spicy which was good as well. The ONLY complaint I have is that I ordered a chow mein and asked for xtra noodles which did not come.....oh well. Not what it use to be. Growing up in Gaithersburg MD i would frequent Hearty's on a regular basis. To me the chinese food was a step up from Kenny's on the other side of the tracks and when i moved i would still make 30 min drive to get the hunan beef lunch special. I hadn't gone in a few months many more but i back at Hearty's again, Now under a new name. i was skeptical at first but gave it a try and it was a big mistake. i guess the name wasnt the only thing that changed. so did the food. it wasnt horrible but not good either. The kicker was that i got really sick after with vomiting and diarrhea not saying it was food poison but will never eat there again. Its sad. Hopefully Kenny's will take me back. read more

My 17 year old son ordered today with some friends, however one of the cards were declined not my sons.
