Packaged beautifully
Susy P.

We Ordered mandarin express the other night and have to say that the staff are very friendly who delivered the food and it was packaged beautifully. The pork and snow pea was excellent as well as the eggrolls. The beef they use for their soup and fried rice is kind of mushy. The salt and pepper shrimp was excellent and it had a nice heat. The sweet-and-sour chicken was fair and the egg foo young was prepared well but the chicken had an interesting taste in the gravy could've used more seasoning. I would recommend this restaurant, but just be careful what you order.

Ordered delivery tonight. The cross bridges soup was good. The vegetable lo mein was ok. The egg foo young patties were good but the major fail was sugar in the gravy?!! The gravy was sweet tasting and I can sense sugar anywhere. Please no sugar in gravy. I do not think I can get over this one. I suspect there was some base used in the gravy and sugar was an ingredient.

Cross Bridge Noodle, Hot N Sour Rice Noodle, and their take on a Shrimp Tempura appetizer
Boris W.

11/11/2021, we were too lazy to cook so we decided to get some tummy warming noodles in these 50 degree weather. She had the Hot N Sour rice noodle, I had the Cross Bridge Noodle, and we had the restaurant's take on a Shrimp Tempura for appetizer. The $5 Tempura app came with four pieces. The dish itself was simple and surprisingly original. I've never had a shrimp tempura like this. The fillings reminded me of an elevated version of an egg roll but with shrimp in it. Every bite was filled with flavor. The only unfortunate aspect was that there was a smidge too much oil used in this dish. The two staples of the restaurant (Cross Bridge and Hot N Sour rice noodles) were excellent as usual. My wife really liked her dish. She said her dish had the right balance between the noodles and other ingredients. Same can be said about my Cross Bridge. We can hardly find any flaws and we don't plan on nitpicking. The two noodle dishes are the staples for a reason! I still think my dish was the better of the two!! The prices are cheap in these pandemic, inflation driven days. Overall experience: 4.5/5

Cross bridge noodle soup raw option

What's up foodie fams! I'm so excited to finally go back to a place I have not eaten at in about a year! I used to go here a lot before the lockdown. I'm glad they just recently opened back dine-in option. Located in Rockville, Maryland is a quaint little Chinese restaurant serving up some massive flavors to attack your taste buds! I ordered the noodle soup they are mostly known for by those who often eat here, the cross bridge noodle soup and a side entree of stir fried pork and spicy peppers. The noodle soup is an act on it's own. You can order the noodle soup cooked or raw. I love getting the raw option where the meat and veggies are fresh. The soup comes out piping hot so add in the meat first to cook, then the veggies, and finally the noodles and watch the magic happen as you mix the ingredients in the oh so savory soup. I like to add hot chili oil and pepper for giggles . I also really enjoyed the pork and spicy peppers. This dish is emanating with robust flavors. A slight hint of sweetness from the house sauce, saltiness goodness from the pork's natural juices, and the mean spiciness from the peppers. There is def a little kick if you enjoy spicy food. Needless to say, I'm super satisfied and happy in the stomach region. Can't wait to come back and eat more of their massive menu of flavor! Until next we eat, stay safe and healthy. SUPER NOMZ!!!

two trays of dumplings

Got takeout (2 different types of dumplings: shrimp/ chives and pork/cabbage). Both were delicious!! The portion sizes are great, dumplings are flavorful and have good filling to wrapper ratio. I will be ordering frozen dumplings from here to keep my freezer stocked with dumplings for future quick meals.

Just seconding the few people here that said they were charged incorrectly. I was charged $80 for 2 lunch entrees and 2 appetizers and the lady refused to fix it there, even after we discussed adjusting it, and then also refused to fix it after I called back. First of all, their website menu is way shorter then the paper menu people are posting here. Website also doesn't have prices, as someone else as pointed out. When I called in my order I confirmed they actually sell a few things not on their website and they said yes. Order wasn't read back to me. Name wasn't taken. Price wasn't given and nor was time for the order to be ready. I called back to ask about time and price and was just told to show up in 20 min. I show up and say I am doing pickup. there are a bunch of items I didn't order on the list she had. She admitted 2 people called at the same time and she combined the orders. so she separated them out and went to the kitchen to add my crab Rangoons that she forgot. in the meantime she does the math and says its $80. I said how?? I asked for an itemized receipt and was handed a paper slip with chinese writing. we went through the item and she said she added crispy noodles by accident. we talk about adjusting the price and she said she does it. I get home and there's a few random things included in the order (broth and a bag of leaking raw meat In a bag of basil). my order is wrong. I'm confused. I see the receipt for $80 and not the adjusted amount. check my credit card and was charged $80! I called and she admitted 2 extra things were added to my order by accident. we talk about the adjustment she was suppose to make and she seems to have just confused herself...I also mention the raw meat but don't get an answer. I ask for a price adjustment and was told that is the actual price. I said I have a paper menu and the math is not right. even if I added up the price of the items added by accident and made them dinner size (ordered at lunch), it still didn't add up. she looks back and sees a crispy tofu was added by mistake. I asked for a refund for that. I was told was given those items for free. I was not, I can do math. so I asked for a refund for the items that I didn't order and I was told next time she can give me extra. well...they dont even have my name so no way. I told her no and I want a refund and we go back and forth and she tells me to come by and pick up lo Mein. I said no I just want a refund for the extra items. and after 4x she said she's gonna go find my card and then hangs up. So yeah, just be careful. I'm attaching paper menu pricing from Jan 8, 2021 for reference.

Cross bridge noodle, cooked

this place is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Rockville - I've been going here regularly with my family for over 15 years. there's usually no wait on a weekday night and it's pretty easy to find parking. This place does offer the classic Chinese restaurant dishes but the real gems are the ones listed below. here's what to get: 1) the crossbridge noodle soup (過橋米線) , cooked (you can order it "raw" with piping hot soup and put the raw ingredients in yourself, but I prefer it to come out cooked). This noodle soup is so comforting and delicious, and filled with a ton of good ingredients like fresh veggies, shrimp, meat, and tofu skin 2) crispy sweet and spicy tofu (干辣豆腐) , it's fried to order and super crispy when it comes out. delicious. 3) the rice cakes with mustard green and pork (炒耳塊) I love rice cake and the way they make it is super chewy and umami and delightful. Recently I also tried the thinly sliced chili oil bean curd (紅油豆乾絲) which was super refreshing and sliced so so thinly (how do they do that!!) and the seasonal Chinese mahogany with egg (香椿操蛋) Both were .

Parking spots that she tries to control, even though they have zero customers.

Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

It's usually packed with Asian folks who come for A&J's dim sum-style food. The food is described as "Northern style" Chinese, and it's definitely not Americanized. I've eaten many a bowl of noodles here, but my favorites are the Dan Dan Mian (with hot spicy sesame sauce and peanuts) and Xue Cai Ro Si Mian (shredded pork and mustard green noodle soup). I've also enjoyed Ma La Er Si (sliced pigs ears with hot and spicy seasoning) and Pi Dan Dou Fu (tofu with Thousand Year Egg) - things I doubt will EVER show up on a menu in my hometown. And the dumplings: oh my. I think I've tried them all, and haven't found one yet I wouldn't order again. The only downside to A&J (besides it being a drive for me) is their cash-only policy. Fortunately there are lots of nearby ATMs, but beware if it's your first visit. Prices are very reasonable and portions are perfect, so overall value is great. If you haven't been, go now, and work your way through the menu. Trust me, you'll thank me!

I have kept this place in the back of my mind, with fond memories, however, have not visited in some years due to multiple moves around the country. Recently, my friend was organizing a casual gathering for our friend group, and asked ChatGPT if there were any good recommendations for food in the area that was affordable and delicious, and A&J came up as a top choice. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! One interesting tidbit, my coworker who grew up in the Midwest and only eats meat, potatoes, absolutely no vegetables, started going here for lunch and loves it. I think flour-based items (noodles, dumplings, buns) are really the star of the restaurant, and this can be enjoyed across different taste palates! I hope you will give this place a try.

We arrived right when they opened around 11 AM on a weekend and were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy yet. One thing to note is that the entire party needs to be present before being seated, which they enforce, but it helps keep things moving smoothly once you're inside. The service felt traditional and efficient, with attentive push carts circulating constantly, making it easy to see what's fresh and grab dishes as they come by. The staff were also accommodating with a baby seat, which made the visit comfortable for families. The steamed cart is always my favorite, and Far East does it well. Standouts for me were the shrimp rice crepe (silky and delicate), shrimp dumplings (har gow) with plump, juicy filling, and the steamed ribs, which were tender and flavorful. The chicken feet and tripe were also well prepared -- classic dim sum staples done right. I also loved the sticky rice, which was fragrant and satisfying, along with two must-order bakery items: the pineapple buns and egg tarts. Both were fresh and comforting, with the egg tarts having that perfect balance of flaky crust and smooth custard. Overall, Far East delivers a solid, traditional dim sum experience -- lively carts, reliable favorites, and a welcoming environment for groups and families. Great spot to gather, share dishes, and enjoy a relaxed weekend dim sum meal. Definitely glad to have seating back again.

Far East is a longtime staple in the DMV food scene, having been in operation since 1974. I was a few times a year patron leading up to 2019, and the last time I was there was in 2023. During my 2023 visit, the place was showing it's age with dingy matted carpeting and cramped dining room. Against my better judgement, I made the trek into Rockville to meet up with some folks for Sunday dim sum. IMHO, while it's true at one point, VA dim sum was inferior to it's MD siblings across the river, I'd say there are plenty of comparable if not BETTER places in VA. Our group was large (15), so we had to dine at two tables, as the largest table could only accomodate12. And note, for dim sum, Far East does not seat incomplete parties, so everyone arrive early. Also note, if you do choose to dine here, the parking lot is fairly small - but there is additional parking towards the back past the dumpsters. My recollection from 2023, was the selection of dishes was quite limited, and the 3-4 ladies who were pushing the steam carts, were peddling the same items over and over. That experience has not changed in 3 yrs. Upon sitting, our hungry group ordered dishes of shrimp dumplings (har gow), shumai, tofu rolls, rice rolls w/shrimp and beef, etc. Everything was fine; but nothing really stood out. The items were lukewarm, and cooled within a few minutes of being passed around the Lazy Susan. To me anyway, I found many of the dishes to be underseasoned...and when does a person characterize Chinese food as not being SALTY enough? The table chili oil was also quite bland. There was a good mix of fried chilis combined with oil, but there was just a hint of spice/heat with the predominant flavor being a heavy greasiness. Perhaps the worst part of the experience was the service. Even accepting that Chinese restaurants are notorious for "providing" legendary bad service, Far East exceeded that reputation. I understand that it was Sunday and the place was busy, but it took over 10 minutes for water and tea to arrive. And a few times, I literally had to get up from the table to flag down servers to refill empty water glasses and tea pots. Piles of dirty dishes kept piling up to the point where a few of us, took them to the bussers and food runners ourselves to make space for new dishes at the table. However, the worst incident was at the end when the servers and what I assume was the manager, rushed us to pay the bill since they needed the table, one of the staff was hurriedly cleaning the table, and spilled an entire glass of ice water on my friend's dress! He didn't even apologize, and when she went to complain to the manager, the only thing he said was, "it's only water, it will wash out." Wow! even by Chinese restaurant standards, that's bad!!! When the bill arrived, the total came out to roughly $35/person with tax and tip (gratuity is already included for larger parties, so be sure to double-check the bill). The meal was definitely NOT worth the $35, and for that amount, I could've had a much better and filling meal at Peter Chang Herndon - https://www.yelp.com/biz/peter-chang-herndon?osq=Peter+Chang This will undoubtedly be the last time I travel to Montgomery County for dim sum...and especially to Far East Restaurant.

A solid spot for sharing with a group, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu. I really wanted to love this place. The soup dumplings are among the better ones in the area. While the wrappers aren't as thin or chewy as the very best, you can tell they're handmade, and I'll always appreciate that. I'd recommend sticking with the pork soup dumplings since they were rich, savory, and full of umami. The crab version unfortunately didn't have any noticeable crab flavor and tasted almost identical to the pork. The duck came in a generous portion and is a great choice for anyone who enjoys sweeter flavors. The watercress was fresh and plentiful, but it could have used much more garlic. We ended up adding the wonton chili oil and dipping it for extra flavor. The cucumber was delicious, but the portion was way too small. The bean curd was cooked well, though there wasn't enough pork for a dish that was supposed to feature it. The fish was another highlight with light spice, a crispy exterior, and perfectly cooked, tender meat. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.
