Food was absolutely delicious and tasted really authentic. The portions are also huge, and we had plenty of leftovers to bring home. Will definitely be coming back!

I came here with a friend in a Sunday night. It was pretty busy. I've been here multiple times and foods were great every time. The restaurant has a lot of seating. It was $52 after tax and tip for 2 people with 3 entree. It's very good prices. I'd definitely comeback again.

I went to Sichuan Jin River for Easter dinner and had a great experience! The restaurant was packed, but we only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Our waiter was attentive when taking our order and our food arrived to our table very quickly. We started off with the Seasoned Shredded Pork Ears which were served in a sesame oil sauce and topped with julienned green onions. We also got a scallion pancake which was a little less flaky than I'm used to but still delicious. We also ordered the spinach with garlic which was simply seasoned and was refreshing when paired with our other dishes. For our first meat dishes we ordered the double cooked pork which had a kick but was not overly spicy. We also ordered the basil chicken with ginger which was served on a hot plate and was my favorite dish of the night! The staff at the restaurant were very efficient with seating tables, packing to-go boxes and cleaning tables after parties left. Overall, I had a good experience and would definitely return, especially to try more spicy dishes.

This is our 2nd time dining. We parked close to restaurant and therefore it was free. Service was QUICK and waiter was attentive. Shredded Pig ear with Hot Chilli oil is tasty and there is NO jelly like stuff like other restaurant. We love it. Cumin Pork Intestine was DELICIOUS. It was crispy on outside and tender inside. Intestine was cleaned pretty well and not smelly at all. (I am very sensitive to smell) Duck blood aka Pork blood hot pot taste EXACTLY the same as sichuan flavor hotpot sauce packet from Great Wall grocery store. Quite tasty and it included tribes, intestines and pig blood. Lomain pork taste like typical chinese takeout. We were there for food so we were not paying attention to the atmosphere that they lack. We will definitely go there again to try other items in their menu.

Pork buns with ya-cai (minus 1)

Been going here for almost a decade and the food never disappoints, quality is always consistent. Dishes come out quickly, service is always friendly. This trip we had steamed pork buns with ya-cai, mapo tofu and chicken with ya-cai. Didn't have the buns but was told the filling was generous, with plenty of pork chunks and preserved veggies (ya-cai). The mapo tofu had the right amount of scallions, numbing peppercorn, chilis and chili oil. It was satisfyingly spicy. The chicken with ya-cai had ground sautéed chicken, peppers, onions and ya-cai for some saltiness. This entree came with steamed buns, perfect to stuff with the ground meat filling.

Dumplings with hot sauce. Used to be special but hasn't been as of late.

Long overdue review... Sichuan Jin River has been one of my go-to Chinese restaurants for years, and truly one of the best in the area. A few dishes have become staples for me -- always consistent, always delicious. Their stir-fry pork with fresh hot peppers and dried bean curd is a hidden gem tucked away on the appetizer menu. At only $10.95, it comes out as a generous dinner-size portion and is one of the best values in town. Other standouts: Moo Shu Chicken -- perfectly executed every time. Basil Chicken -- fragrant and flavorful. Flounder with sour pickled cabbage & peppers -- an unbelievable soup I crave regularly. Flounder with Chinese greens -- and in fact, all their fish dishes are outstanding (I've tried them all). General Guan's Cumin Chicken -- bold, spicy, and addictive. Black Pepper Beef in Hot Plate -- sizzling and packed with flavor. Sliced Beef with Enoki Mushroom Sour Soup -- rich, tangy, and hearty. One note: their dumplings/wontons with hot sauce used to be incredible, loaded with garlic and flavor. Unfortunately, the sauce hasn't been the same for the past few years, so I'll be skipping that dish from now on. That said, Sichuan Jin River has never let me down overall -- with a menu this deep, I always find myself coming back.

Grateful for a family style Chinese restaurant, where you can find authentic Chinese food and a relaxed setting. Good food, large portions, and frequented by mostly Chinese patrons. None pretentious service (iykyk) and prompt. It's our standard twice a week spot. Highly recommend.

One of the oldest Sichuan restaurants in the Rockville and DMV area is shown by the accolades they got on the wall from 2011/2013 era. Food was plentiful and affordable compared to just Peter wang across the street. Service was ok, but fast. Food came out fast after ordering. Eggplant was not mushy. Peppercorn fish is unique and they are probably the only ones that make it in the area.

I came here a ton as a kid and came by fairly recently with my family for the first time in over a decade. I'd say, overall, it was hit or miss. I unfortunately don't know the names of too many of the dishes I ordered in English, as many are traditional Chinese dishes. However, the classic dishes that I remembered as a kid are just as good as they used to be. A couple, on the other hand, were fairly mediocre. Big fan of the hai xian guo ba, but the tofu dish that we got was fairly average. Service is good, so no complaints there. This is a fairly authentic restaurant, so keep that in mind (all the servers speak fluent Chinese).

Crispy rice cake and vegetables in white sauce

Truly cannot recommend this place enough -- Sichuan Jin River is my new go-to for authentic and delicious Chinese food! They have a wide array of my childhood classics, and they certainly take the "Sichuan" in their name seriously, so be prepared for some heat (and some numbing)! I came with a group of four on a chilly, rainy DMV evening, the perfect weather for some hot Chinese fare. We got an array of seafood and veggies, including their Whole Fish & Bean Jelly in Hot Sichuan Sauce, Mapo Tofu (without the pork), Stir-Fried String Beans, and Crispy Rice Cake & Vegetables in White Sauce. It's hard to pick a favorite from that list since every single item was executed to perfection. As far as the proteins go, the fish was delightfully tender and perfectly seasoned; the Sichuan hot sauce absolutely packed a punch and paired wonderfully with the steaming white rice. I appreciated that the kitchen allowed us to modify the mapo tofu to take out the pork, and I'm so glad we had the opportunity to try it! Like the fish, the tofu was super tender and the hot, numbing sauce was perfect. The veggies were equally delicious -- the string beans were crispy on the outside and soft in the center, with a great char from the wok and a huge punch of flavor from the blackened garlic. Both the crispy rice cakes and vegetables were certainly crispy; the veggies were fresh and not too overcooked, and they paired wonderfully with the light white sauce. If you do order this one, definitely try to eat it quickly, though, as the crispy rice cakes will lose their battle with the sauce after 10-20 minutes and get a touch soggy. Not only was everything delicious, but it was also super affordable! Our individual bills (not including tip, but including tax and two other meat dishes beyond what I listed above) came out to ~$20! Not bad at all for a DMV restaurant and a pretty hefty meal. So if you're craving some authentic, no-frills Sichuan food at an affordable price point, definitely give Sichuan Jin River a try!

I got the Scallion Oil Noodles - chewy, hand pulled noodles in a smooth oil dressing. Pair it with the chili oil kimchi for a nice contrasting crunch. My favorite, however, was the Tofu with Century Egg Salad - a small bowl with cubes of soft tofu and quartered century egg and chili oil. Lots of textures and tastes thrown into a tiny little bowl. Be careful - as proof that this place is authentic, their "vegan" vegetable tofu noodle soup is served in beef broth. But once you hammer out the details of the ingredients, the taste is worthwhile. Plenty of others feel the same way - we arrived when they just opened for the day, so we got a seat, but by the time we left, there was a line out the door. Ordered the beef combo knife slice noodle soup, pork soup dumplings, pork wontons with homemade spicy sauce, and the pan fried pork buns. The pan fried pork buns were the clear MVP here, perfectly crispy on the outside with that satisfying crunch, but soft and fluffy inside. Super filling too, which is always a win in my book. The beef noodle soup was solid comfort food with good portions, and the dumplings hit the spot. Only minor thing - I wished the "spicy sauce" had more kick to it. Could've used some extra heat, but that's me being picky. For the price and portion sizes, this place delivers (pun intended). You're getting a solid amount of food that actually tastes good. Would definitely order again, and those pork buns are going to be a repeat item for sure.

So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Recently, my friend was organizing a casual gathering for our friend group, and asked ChatGPT if there were any good recommendations for food in the area that was affordable and delicious, and A&J came up as a top choice. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! One interesting tidbit, my coworker who grew up in the Midwest and only eats meat, potatoes, absolutely no vegetables, started going here for lunch and loves it.
