This place is THE WORST funeral home in the entire world! I definitely agree on shutting this place down. The owner is SO RUDE. It was my friends grandmothers funeral. As the monks were saying their prayers, the owner literally WALKED OVER the family as they were on their knees, praying, interrupted the prayers and told them that they needed to hurry up. HOW FREAKING RUDE. There are grieving friends and family over here praying for their grandmother and this guy has the balls to interrupt & disrupt the entire thing! Also, as the prayers were happening, he was walking around and disrupting the entire thing and trying to get EVERYBODY out. So after they were rushed, the family is supposed to walk out first with the picture and statue, then it's the friends and etc. The owner literally tells everybody to get up, as the family is walking out and he literally says, "Get up, get out." Most disrespectful, rude, non compassionate man I've ever seen. I get it if you don't feel remorse anymore since you run a funeral home, but there are people out there with a heart. Do yourself a favor and read the negative reviews and ask yourself if you really want to take the risk on the "hit or miss" reputation of this location. They are aggressive, lack transparency, and do not communicate in order to assure issues wont arise. What transpired: A father had passed away in which he was catholic and the wife, buddhist. We had set up to have the catholic ceremony first and then the Buddhist ceremony on another day. WELP THIS PLACE GOT IT WRONG! They set up the Buddhist ceremony on the day peole were expecting the catholic ceremony and no one showed up that was going to go the second ceremony (Buddhist) I have no other word to describe the emotion i felt other than disgust. When we brought this to their attention they showed no remorse, offered no apology to those of us who were there and then told us they would allow us 5 minutes to mourn before they would ask us to leave. No one got angry, everyone was just to sad. For those that have had a pleasent encounter, I am glad. For those that had a tragedy made worse by this locations incompetence, i empathise for what you must have gone through. read more

ZERO STARS When mourning the death of a loved one you expect the mortuary to follow through with its promises. Owner Tuan, made promises that he could not deliver. He ensured our family that he would take care of everything. His morals and work ethics are despicable. My 99 year old grandma passed away last week. I noticed that she had a couple of strands of hair on her chin. Naturally, I asked if he could trim it? He replied jokingly, "You don't want to keep it for good luck?" Really?!? I just brushed it off. Then I noticed that grandma's traditional white ao dai had a stain. I got a baby wipe to clean but it wasn't coming out. Turns out Tuan covered it up with white out. It gets even worst. He agreed for our family to have a viewing from 3-7pm with 3 floral arrangements. The night before he said had to leave by 5pm. Again, I looked the other way. My florist called me at 2:15pm stating the owner won't let me deliver the flowers. I called Tuan but it went straight to voicemail. I called my florist back to apologized and asked if he could deliver the flowers to the church the next day. Right when my florist was packing up, the security guard stopped him and allowed him to deliver the flowers. Turns out my family had trouble to. Tuan actually cussed out my cousin when he called about the flowers. The next day at church, I noticed my flower arrangement was missing. I asked the security guard, if there were any more flowers in the van? Per the guard: No, Tuan told me to deliver 2 arrangements only. I then proceeded to ask if he could go back to Heaven's Gate and deliver the other arrangement? He said, no I was supposed to deliver the 2 arrangements only. It's common sense to deliver all of the arrangements. It took hours to get my flowers delivered. According to the package deal that my family purchased, Heaven's Gate would provide white gloves for the pallbearers. Apparently, that meant paying an additional $5 per gloves. So my aunt bought 9 new gloves elsewhere. When we had our viewing at church, Tuan's assistant brought white gloves. It was a nice gesture but it turns out that the gloves were yellow and used, GROSS. On the day of the funeral, grandma's casket and flowers were delivered on time. However, when they delivered the flowers to the cemetery, the arrangements were tossed around. One of the arrangements was actually thrown on the ground because the stand broke. How rude is that?!? Today, my aunt noticed that my grandma's DOB was incorrect on her death certificate. So she calls him to correct it. The minute he heard her voice, he hung up on her. I don't understand how someone like that has stayed in business for so long. TO ALL THE FAMILIES WHO LOST LOVED ONES DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! My 70 year old uncle was tasked by his siblings to find a cremation service. He found this company on the vietnamese radio station and the price given was $575- so my uncle gave them a check recieving a receipt in return with no services detailed. My grandmother entered into hospice as of Friday and as the family sat around her bed on Sunday during her final moments we were discussing how we envision our goodbyes during cremation. We all agreed we would like to see her to the very end at no cost but we were unsure on if our package included this since nothing was detailed. My youngest uncle called and spoke with Tuan explaining what our family would like to do to honor my grandmother at her final moments on this earth. We said we wanted to say goodbye before cremation and will pay any price to be in attendance. Tuan got very defensive, angry and said that he cannot help us and hung up. He then called my uncle who wrote the check saying our package is now cancelled and he is going to rip up the check and good luck in finding another place. Made us question what is he doing with these bodies? Why would you get mad? Are we the only family asking this request? At that moment we went into crisis mode and found an AMAZING cremation service called PACIFIC CREMATION SOCIETY in Lake Forest. Maureen helped guide us through this emotional rollercoaster with ease and comfort. She completed all the paperwork necessary to file with the state. My grandmother passed within the hour of Tuan cancelling our contract and I am a true believer in everything happens for a reason. My amazing grandmother passed on International Women Day and this was the last act she wanted to leave us by letting us know she did not want to be in the care of Tuan company. As my family mourns, I pray no other family has to go through what we went thru with this company. Their lack of empathy, respect and integrity is inhuman to your loved ones. read more

My husband passed on 12/10/22. We had this funeral home to take care cremation service and all the legal documents needed. We paid them up to Miss Thu, Mr. Tuan Nguyen's assistant. She was very kind and understandable person. Since Ms Thu had no longer working there, we had a very hard time to deal with the meanest funeral home owner. We simply asked him the status or my husband's certificate. He did not even ask my name, what the name of the certificate for? he told us right away: "We don't have it yet, just wait for my call when it comes." After many phone calls to him, he hung up on me whenever he heard my voice That certificate will not ever come to our hands. I just called the OC County Recorder to check the status with them directly. They told me my husband's death cert. was mail to Heaven's Gate funeral Home on 1/10/23. He have it now and keep it as his property, as his asset forever. I am feeling soooo bad for selecting the very bad funeral home over my husband's death. Hopes, nobody will never make a mistake, big mistake as me to chose this horrible funeral home to take care the death of your love ones. read more

In addition to the above review , my father was left laying at the funeral home for 3 weeks before he was able to be cremated. First lied was due to COVID19 and was why it is so long. Second lied was my died died in LA county and since there are so many cases and etc. he has to wait for the permit. I called LA country to confirm his statement. LA county informed me that they have to have permit within 5-8 days. I discovered that there were wrong information provided by the funeral home that was why the delayed. I was recommended to this funeral through a friend. Now I understand why they were highly recommended. Tuan, the funeral coordinator was so accommodating and patient throughout our entire planning process. At first we went to speak to him to prepare ourselves for when it was time. We didn't expect it to happen so soon. And when it did, Tuan was there throughout the entire process. Without him and his staff I'm sure I would have forgotten a lot of things. I'm not one to really post any reviews as you can see, but I would like to give a shout out to Heaven's Gate for taking care of my father. he was in contact with our family the entire time and was able to pretty much coordinate everything for us. we are a big family and have been to many funerals individually as a collective but have been spared the grief of having to actually coordinate one for our family. so when it was time for Dad to go, no one knew what to do. Thankfully Anh Tuan guided us in what things needed to be done in a timely manner. he even coordinated for the Monk and services and made Dad look as handsome as ever. I was debating for a several months on whether I should write a negative review. I do not want other families to experience what I did. This place does not care for your loved ones and are just greedy people. I specially asked the young lady, Thi about how my brother looked due to the way he passed. She said he had an injury on his face, but she would cover it with make up and he would look fine. I wish I never had an open casket when I saw how she did his make up. My brother looked unrecognizable! His eyes were stitched and blood still in his ear which she didn't tell me about. Then she decides to explain to me in details on the day of the funeral as to why he looked that way rather than sharing this on the day I asked her. She charged $495 for "dressing/others." I am traumatized for the rest of my life because of this funeral home. Please do yourself and others a favor and pay a little extra at another funeral home! read more

how to put a review for a funeral home.... so depressing, i know. I'll put the pros and cons and brief review first, and a detailed to follow: Pro: cheap Con: communication delays Brief: not necessarily a 'get what you pay for' funeral home, but leaning on that side. gets the job done, especially if you're on a budget. Detailed review: my mother died in the early part of January this year (2017) and she unfortunately didn't have friends or family in the states, so we opted for a direct cremation for her, with a simple temple prayer service for our religion. direct cremation is $550 now plus fees. (it was $505 for me, + $30 death certificate / filing / permit fees, so my total was $535). My mother died in a hospital, so the hospital had her body at an overflow morgue, and Heaven's Gate picked her up from the morgue directly after that on the next business day. Tuan was clear and concise with how to process everything and was very helpful. 50 days since my mom's death, my father also died (February 2017), and I still had Heaven's Gate in my phone call log. So i called up Tuan once again to request his services. My father died in his room at a residence, and at 6pm, I was able to request for them to come pick him up without a problem. For my father however, my family and I wanted to do something different than for my mom, because he knew so many people, and had a lot of family here. Tuan was accommodating to my requests and needs, even if he constantly reminds me that he's never done the type of service that i was requesting to do before, for a buddhist service. Tuan is an aggressive guy on the phone, but he's a professional and knows what he's doing. However that can come off as blunt/brash and maybe not so empathetic, which could turn people off in this difficult time. Other things to note: His office is an appointment only basis, so you must make one to see him. His office has a handful of caskets and urns available to view. Be sure to write down exactly what you want or need before you see him / call him. If he doesn't pick up his phone, leave a message or text him. He's most likely in a funeral service or away from his desk (I've learned this from my experience because he'll call back within an hour or so). Also, no credit cards accepted (that I could see), cash or checks only. read more

As if losing a love one isn't devastating enough. Tuan the owner had to make the experience even worst. He sold us sweet package when we came to him but he didn't follow through with any of the things he promised our family. We all agreed on having my grandmothers viewing on Thursday from 3pm to 7pm and last minute he tell us there's no viewing you can just come visit and you have to leave by 5pm. Are you serious? All of our family was traveling from near and far to pay their respect to our grandma. I personally made the agreement with me and I asked if we could have some flowers there on Thursday and he said YES! You can have 3 arrangements and then comes Thursday he starting turning away all the flowers and he cussed out my little brother. I called him myself very calm and asked him what the situation was and he answered the phone very rude saying in Vietnamese "what do you want?" I explained who I was and politely reminded him of agreement. He continued to yell and scream. He had promised to provide white gloves for the us to carry the casket and again last minute they charged us $5 so we told them we will get our own. The day of they did provided USED ones. Keep in mind the globes was apart of the package. Tuan told us in beginning we wouldn't have anything to worry about and we would be very pleased. He's been in business for many years. I don't know how he sleeps at night. We were all hurting from lost of our grandma and we kept our cool only because she had our grandma and we scared of him mistreating her. They did a horrible job on her makeup. I actually touched her up myself. I know that sounds kinda creep to some people but I didn't want my grandma to go out like that. His employees were quit nice and he's extremely lucky that he has them. I can't imagine how he treats them daily. If you're reading this go anywhere but this place! My father passed away unexpectedly and we didn't have any plan for his funeral. We called Heaven's Gate to have the services for him since my mother saw the ads on T.V. We are so glad we did that since Tuan (the owner) came out and worked with us diligently and explained in details with us the different option packages that can fit our needs and expenses. He also went over the process of the funeral, giving us options to dress up our beloved father and reminding us what need to bring to the funeral. He gave us multiple discounts to our package. Overall, the service went well up to the crematory and my family and I including our guests feel very comfortable and my father's soul can rest in peace at the end of his journey. I want to start off by saying this is a true and genuine review. My mother in law's health was declining right before our eyes, as a young family my husband, brother in law, and myself have never planned a funeral before. It became realistic, and we didn't think we'd have to shop around for funeral homes. We made an appointment with Heaven's Gate and upon arrival, Anh Duc and Chi Thao were very welcoming and professional. We let them know that we really didn't know what we were doing. Anh Duc and Chi Thao was very patient enough to thoroughly walk us through step by step, and all of the options available and emphasized on the difference between pre planning price and immediate service price The next night as we were visiting my mother in law at the hospital, the medical team told us pretty much her quality of life is not there. We made a painful but righteous decision to let her go. In the midst of all of that, I quickly call Heaven's gate and spoke with Anh Tuan (Owner), and asked him if they would be able to honor the pre planning service price (since we didn't put a deposit when we asked for a quote the day before) he said "sorry to hear you're going through a hard time but don't worry about it, just get back to your family and we can talk tomorrow". She passed at 10:00PM and they came and got her body at 12:30AM from her room (not the morgue downstairs) . The next day, my husband, brother in law, and myself went to Heaven's Gate to start the service planning. I cannot express enough how much the whole team made this process very painless and easy for us in this difficult time. Literally from BEGINNING until the END. Every single person at Heaven's Gate has shown sooo much compassion to my family we can never thank them enough! On a side note, this facility is brand new and very CLEAN. read more

Our family lost our beloved Grandma on February 10, 2020. She was the center of our family so we wanted to make sure her funeral reflected just how important she was to us. Unfortunately, the owner of this establishment made it impossible from the start. The owner, Thuan, was extremely unprofessional during a time where our family was in mourning. He had given us a price on a casket that we agreed upon and then tried to change the cost to $500 more a day later - blaming the manufacturer for the discrepancy. That should've been our red flag for what was to come. Originally we were only going to do one day of viewing (Friday) however after further family discussion, we wanted to do an additional day of viewing on Thursday. He said we could have it from 3pm-7pm but the day before he said we would only be able to do it from 3pm-5pm. Although not ideal, we adjusted and told our friends and family of the time change. On the day of the first day of Viewing (Thursday) our grandma received many funeral sprays to the funeral home but the owner refused to accept any of them and turned them away. We had at least 4 different floral shops contact us about this. When we called the owner to see what was going on, he answered the phone with a very hostile tone. We were shocked and appalled. He told us that he would not be accepting any "f**cking flowers today and to stop f**cking calling" and hung up on us. When it was time to start the viewing, he was nowhere to be found and had sent his "recently hired" office manager, Annette. Annette was nice and tried her best to turn things around. However, at this point the damage was done and we were all extremely upset that someone would do this during such a sensitive and fragile time. Many people who sent flowers to the funeral home had to pay an additional fee to have the flowers taken back and resent the following day to the church. We would have changed funeral homes if we had not already paid Thuan. We also called him about the incorrect date of birth he put on our grandma's death certificate and once he picked up and heard our voice, he hung up and has not picked up any of our other calls. Please reconsider using this funeral home as the owner lacks any morals and decorum. My father passing was abruptly but, wasn't out of no where. He has been battle cancer for awhile. A friend in the church recommended Heaven's Gate Funeral for help with the funeral service and they were amazing. Communication was awesome the owner Tuan was always easy to reach when ever. Even at 9pm on a Saturday to pick up my dad's body from the hospital. And he was willing to hold the body longer than a week because we could not have the funeral till some of the elders in my church return from their business trips.
