Initially provided "Pre-need" pricing at $850. Due to situations with my mother's finances we could not own a prepaid plan as it would have disqualified her for the help she was receiving but I was told that we needed the services of An Lac we could trust that this is what we would be charged. A year later when I am "In need" somehow the price went to $3900... Then to add insult to insult/injury; an hour after I left their office they called me to apologize and tell me that they were "Willing to work a special deal for me" This was the day after my mother passed. I can't explain to you to you how incredibly horrible this made me feel but I will tell you that I was able to match the initial quote with another supplier and move on with my grieving process. I work literally across the street from where this took place and (their office) and even though it's been 3 months since this situation it makes me sick when I see their sign as I am leaving or returning to the office. We needed an urn for my mother-in-law's celebration of life. We bought one online but we were unhappy with it so needed another right away. We called and they said they had a few in stock. This was the third place we went to and it seems most places do not stock urns. You need to order them and we did not have time to wait for another delivery of 1-2 weeks. An Lac Funeral Services did a great job organizing and conducting the cremation of my recently deceased wife. They were very responsive to the family's requests regarding attendance at the cremation, and thoughtfully brought flowers for the attendees to place with her before the cremation started. An Lac was able to expedite the cremation service so that my daughter that had travelled from Sweden was able to participate before needing to fly home. We called this business on Saturday to arrange for a hospital pick up on Sunday for our mother. Today Monday the 15th, they forgot and miss placed our request. We were willing to accept the "added charge" as mentioned by the manager because they were busy due to covid , but we DO NOT accept their inability to respect a human that has passed. We talked to Mr. Khang about cremation for a love one. He gave us a quote of 585.0 including every thing except for death certificates. We asked him to email us the contract & quote before we proceed. That's how we do business in the good old USA, things must be in writing. Mr. Khanh responded he doesn't have a contract to email, he said we wouldn't understand the contract anyway and we are to trust him! Mr. Khang is so very arrogant, treated potential customers like dirt. Imagine how he will treats customers once he pocketed the money. We would rather pay more for a peace of mind. Not sure about rates but this place lacks compassion and follow through especially when your family is going through a tough time. If you're dealing with the loss of a loved one and don't want worry about issues with the funeral/cremation service, I would suggest going with another place that actually cares; paying a little more for peace of mind during a difficult time is worth it in my opinion. If the one who passed isn't someone you're particularly close to and you just went to go through the motions then this is the place for you. When we arranged for my brother's cremation services, we dropped off a box of his stuff clearly organized and even pointed out to Mr. Khang that we had a designated cremation box from the temple that the cremation place should use (after we had tipped him so you'd think he'd pay particular attention - more on that below). Imagine our surprise when my brother's ashes get delivered in the standard nondescript box from the crematorium. So we had to call Mr. Khang to figure out where the box we provided was. A few days later he said he replaced the box so we went back to the temple to check. He had transferred the contents but left the box from the cremation place littered in front of my brother's mantle area. Couldn't be bothered to dispose of the box - such poor follow through! Another thing that brought a bad taste to my mouth was after my parents paid for the cremation services and death certificates, my dad offered him a monetary tip which he eagerly and quickly accepted! I feel like in this line of work, you should have the compassion and desire to ensure you do your best work without requiring a tip. However, if you do accept the tip, you should then be going above and beyond to make sure everything goes without a hitch or be especially apologetic if things do go wrong which let me tell you, that was not our case. He also told us we weren't allowed to be present at the cremation due to covid. When we called the crematorium they said that the funeral home has to set it up. They didn't tell us it was strictly prohibited due to covid. We didn't bother following up with Mr. Khang because he had repeatedly told us it was not allowed and he didn't seem to care but this seemed off to us as well. 5 weeks after my brother's death, we were still waiting for his death certificate. When we called Mr. Khang he said he would follow up but then later said he wouldn't call the county because they're so busy right now but if we want answers and want the certificate quickly then it's the family's responsibility to call and see what's going on. When my dad called the county, they told him that death certificates take about 2-3 weeks and the person who submitted the request (aka the funeral home) has to call for follow up if it's been longer than 3 weeks. They needed specific information such as when the death certificate forms were submitted etc that we didn't know. At this point we are beyond annoyed at Mr. Khang - why did he tell us to waste our time and energy calling when it's his responsibility? When we called to inform him that he needed to be the one to call, obviously incensed at that point for all the things that had gone wrong, he had the audacity to yell at us for misunderstanding him. His story changed again and he claims the intention was for us to call to put pressure on the health department to expedite my brother's case?? Apparently he felt that the county would be more sympathetic to a family's plea than his. From our call with the county, this didn't seem to be the case. She said it takes 2-3 weeks and to follow up if it's beyond that - not that the county is extremely overwhelmed and backlogged and things are taking longer at this time. At this point we realized what kind of a person Mr. Khang is. He's not in this business because he cares about guiding families during a difficult time in their lives; this is just a job for him. His ego has no place in this line of business. Don't expect him to have compassion for your loss. He won't be understanding if you get frustrated at him while you're trying to do his job and deal with your grief. He'll never remember who you are or which family member you're calling about. Each conversation with him has to start with reminding him who you are and which "client" of his you're tied to. I don't agree that it's because he has a lot of people to keep track of. Many other industries like doctors for example have lots of clients or patients and care enough to remember who they are and keep them straight. I would expect the same if not more from a funeral home. If you want to have a seamless, caring experience, do not go here! read more

On the day of the funeral he delayed and changed the funeral plans and delayed the service. He sent the Buddhist monks to go back and made us wait with out consulting the family at all. It was a horrible experience. 41 years in this country, I never see a service that bad. All the owner did was promised. After you pay off the package, he became someone else. If you use his services (I hope that you find some other similar services around here) , remember to write down what he promised, has him sign it, because he will forget and blamed on you. The owner and the staff went above and beyond their responsibilities to ensure that everything was taken care off in a professional and caring manner. They collected needed data, gave recommendations, and made sure that all parties: priests, church, choir, mortuary, cemetery, police escorts, etc., were communicated. Francis, director/owner of the An Lac, is kind and talented. He attended prayer services of our father. He guided and directed all of us on what to do from funeral services, to church services, then to burial ceremony. The entire event was well organized, well planned, and well executed. Francis is also a one man choir. He played the guitar and sang at the funeral. Most of all, he combined the best of both cultures (Vietnamese and American). Thank you Francis.
