This place is a hidden gem. I haven't visited Heavy Metal Barbell since they were located in the Westridge Shopping Center in Aiea years and years ago, but I'm glad they are still around. I wanted to convert a spare bedroom into a home gym and found everything I needed here. The staff was very accommodating with my questions and last minute changes to my purchase. Even better, everything was delivered and installed in three days! Customer service is on point, both in the store and during delivery and setup in my home. When thinking about picking up some weights for home use while 24 Hour Fitness is closed due to the pandemic Heavy Metal Barbell was the first company that came to mind. They have been in Honolulu a long time and I was glad the salesperson that helped me was very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. Wanted to get adjustable dumbbells and got two 14" handles, four 10 pound plates, four 5 pound plates and four 2.5 pound plates. Came out to $136 which I thought was reasonable. First off I have nothing but good things to say about Heavy Metal. I have been taking Ultra 40 for years now. Liver pills. I've noticed an increased energy throughout the day especially on contest prep. I recently have had a mishap which has set me back and ended up in the hospital with internal bleeding. I went from 16 to 7.4 hematocrit in just a day. I was admitted for 3 days. The tear has healed and was discharged. I left stable at 7.4 hematocrit. I had to make a plan to get my hematocrit back upto normal rage as fast as possible so I once again turned to Ultra 40 liver pills. I have done my research and used 5 pills between each of my meals which I eat 6 meals a day right now. In just 2 days they pulled my blood to check my hematocrit numbers again. I am up from 7.4 to 7.6. Praise God! I truly believe that with Ultra 40 apart of my regimen it really help the red blood cell count go up. The hub found this place pretty early on in the pandemic and at first I was concerned about the $ he was spending and the cluttering of our apt. Fast forward 8 months and so grateful he found this place. We are more motivated to workout than before the pandemic bc it's all at home so barriers aren't decreased. Got dumbbells and medicine balls for us and as gifts for other family members. The customer service here was great and attentive and they answered questions. Bought two 50 lb hexagon dumbbells for $210. Its $ 1.99 per pound. Cheaper than total fitness USA. Although total fitness has way more selections, I came here definitely for the price. If u need weights greater than 50 u will have to special order it. Also got 18 inch pair Scheit (spelling prob wrong) for $23. Walmart sells wrist wraps half that price but u pay for what u get. I will be returning to heavy metal barbell probably next year for 60 lb hexagon dumbbells that will probably cost me $240. But I think it's worth it. Check these guys out on south street. read more

The first time, that I bought weightlifting equipment from this place. They were in the west ridge shopping center in the back parking lot. Then I remember buying stuff from their store on Waialae Avenue too. Then I haven't bought anything for a very, very long time. Until now, when I needed a new bigger waist size and a more comfortable weightlifting belt and weightlifting gloves with the wrist wraps that helps when I try to lift heavy again. The store is on South Street across from the fire station which is on the left side of the street and HMBC is on the right side of the street right after Motor Imports Toyota parts and repair center. The guy or the owner of the store that was working when I went there was very friendly and very helpful in me finding what I needed right away. That's great customer service! This was my first experience dealing with Heavy Metal Barbell and I cannot say enough about them to do them justice. I just had to make a yelp account specifically to express my customer experience and appreciation for people like Kevin, Edwin and Heavy Metal Barbell. I first contacted Kevin via email and explained to him what I was looking for which was the Powertec Multi Bench in Black. Kevin replied quite quickly and explained that , yes they indeed have it in stock and he continued to answer my hundreads of questions I had regarding my investment. I got to tip my hat to Kevin he was patient in dealing with me and very knowledgable in his advice and he also kindly suggested a few personal opinions and allowed me to open up my mind to the types of options and routes I can take , and these days, honestly, that kind of personal connection with people these days are getting harder and harder to come by. The delivery date was discussed after calling in the payment, I was given options of days to choose my delivery ,which I was free on all days being I work from home, and left it up to whatever was best for them. Few minutes later it was set up for today ( as this review is being written ) Friday May 22nd. Time was set for 10am, with a very reasonable delivery and setup cost. Edwin arrived at the door greeted me kindly and professionally, I explained where I wanted my equipment to be set up and he also gave me some tips on where I should have it set up and spacing options and other misc tips, These guys are great! I wish all business's were like them. I offered to help Edwin unload the boxes and he kindly said he's got it and sure enough working smart pays off, I would've only gotten I the way. I offered Edwin water as he got unpacking and off he went to work. I stuck around to be of any help if he needed and also we talked story here and there, he's a really nice guy. After he was done setting up, he showed me how everything worked, and even let me try it out and walked me through my new equipment. ( no weights loaded at this time. ) shortly after all his work and educating me and my wife how it works he left and we couldn't be any happier dealing with Heavy Metal Barbell and their customer service, they literally made me feel like family. I will forever return to Heavy Metal Barbell for all my fitness needs, they earned a lifetime customer. I've come here twice, looking for a powerlifting belt, wrist wraps, and knee sleeves. The staff is really helpful and knowledgeable, which is great because I had no idea what the heck I was looking for. I was looking for a bench. I came here. I forgot his name but he was very helpful. He took the time to ask what I was exactly looking for and pointed out the options and also the differences. I am very busy and don't have too much time to spend. He did not waste any of my time. I did call around to other places before coming here but they just seem too busy to answer questions or just be helpful in general. Hard to find this great service like at Heavy Metal Barbell Co. nowadays. I purchased a good quality bench that I am very happy with. When I brought it home, there were a couple of wrong screws that came with the bench. I called back in and he said just swing by and we'll see what the problem is. I stopped by it showed him what I was talking about. He agreed that couple of screws were wrong and gave me replacements that did fit no problem. I'd say 3 3/4 stars for my April 10 experience. Please read on. This is a follow-up to my review dated April 9, 2020. I visited Heavy Metal again April 10, 2020 after receiving a voicemail today from them advising me that the shipment they had ordered had arrived. When I called previous to today and they added my name to their call list to call when this shipment came in, I was advised their call list was already four (4) pages long. So when they called me today, my strong guess was that by the time I arrived at the store, many of the people ahead of me on the list would get first crack at everything, resulting in everything or nearly everything likely sold. I got there within an hour of receiving the voicemail and as I suspected, they didn't have much left. I was told they only received one half ( 1/2) of what they ordered. Well, regardless of the reason, they didn't have what I needed. I learned today it was actually Kevin whom I dealt with on April 9. Yes, the owner. Yes, shocking, I know. I dealt with Kevin today also. Kevin tried to justify his approach with me on April 9, using the same logic he explained on April 9 which seemed to be that no questions of mine had any value or were worth answering since Kevin didn't know what would be in the shipment. Weak logic, yes I know. The point being is that information is helpful for the purchaser to know to determine if you even want the items and if are willing to wait as I am for the items to get to the store, it really doesn't matter if this current shipment they're waiting for will include them or not. For example: Can you get the spin lock type of dumbbell handles and if so, what is the cost, even if they don't come in with this shipment you're expecting? What about the length, padding, diameter of the handle? Are the handles of a universal size so other weights can be used? Do you have a model in the showroom or even a picture of the incline or flat benches you are expecting or can get or a model number I can look up on the internet? What maximum weight are they rated for? Is there one leg or two in the front? What tools are needed to assemble or is there a charge if they assemble? Anyway, what he said today was not as important as how he said it, meaning it was my assessment that today, reading into the man behind the words and seemingly rough exterior, Kevin wanted to make amends with me, start over with me and establish good will, even though he didn't actually state or acknowledge his less than positive customer service he showed me on April 9. So yes, as annoying as it was, I also ignored the statement he made to me to the effect, I almost decided not to call you. Today, Kevin was way more courteous and way more helpful and way more pleasant to speak to and deal with. My expectations for customer service were definitely met. I also dealt with his employee Ed who was also helpful and courteous. It was like being in a different store today as compared to my April 9 experience. I was also very appreciative that Kevin will place my name on his new 2nd call list to call me when his next shipment is expected in a number of weeks from now and as an extra step, Kevin will advise me when he called whether or not the items I want came in. A very nice and kind thing to do which Kevin doesn't have to do and he could easily make the case that he doesn't have the time to do, because I'm one of a huge number of customers he's also calling. So quite the turnaround in favorable customer service, yes? 180 degree turn for the better, yes? YES. I said YES. I'll see how my next visit goes. Watch for my follow-up review. read more

Went in here to take a look. They didn't have a ton of products like GNC, but they had enough that mattered. They sold lots of supplements, weight lifting and exercise equipment. They sell equipment you most likely would not find in normal stores like sports authority. Sage helped me select some BCAA's, and since he's tried most of them, he knows which ones are the most effective. Anyway, the staff was real friendly and had a warm fuzzy environment.
