This is usually the spot to be if you're looking for good wings in Victoria, but sometimes it's a hit and a miss. The food is better than you'd expect for a bar, and gets quite busy with their comedy show nights. The servers are generally pretty friendly, but I've had times where nobody comes to help you for a good 15-20 minutes after having been seated. I don't know what this server's problem was, but my friend and I arrived to meet our group of 11, and whenever I tried to reply to her questions such as "who's the reservation under" she would shush me. Like, what the actual fuck?! She did this multiple times to the point where I had to ask her how she expects me to respond when she keeps shushing me. I wasn't even speaking loud. Definitely the type of food to order as a supplement to entertainment or to drinks, but not a place I'd choose to go just for food alone. Pretty basic burgers and sandwiches despite how tasty they make make it sound on their menu. A way to fill up, but not much more than that! Hecklers is great for: -a night of playing pool, darts, pull-tabs, video games -a night of sitting around drinking beer, eating nachos & talking crap with your friends -watching the game or fight (they tend to show most major sporting things) -seeing live comedy Hecklers is outside the downtown core, which I love, because it usually means it's not jam-packed crowded and not full of douchebag clientele. I've been here a few times to play pool and drink and have fun with friends. Last night was UFC fight night, so my friend and I had a background of grown men squeezing the life out of each other, which was interesting - people sure are into that. Anyway, we grabbed the pool table and set up up there, ordered pitchers of beer. The waitress brought us a free basket of popcorn, weird but appreciated, and certainly made us drink more beer - a plot perhaps? Anyway, I was hungry, and realizing my day's food so far had consisted of peanut butter toast, a cheeseburger and a handful of tortilla chips, decided I needed some veggies. I scanned the menu, and there was mostly pub fare - wings, ribs, nachos, burgers etcetera, and a few salads. I decided on the shrimp salad. Warily. My date was skeptical: "you're going to have seafood HERE?" What I received was a generous portion of spring mix, topped with candied pecans, dried cranberries, some feta cheese, a very fresh, ripe, quartered tomato, and NINE prawns, perfectly cooked and delicious, with a side of balsamic vinaigrette. I ate every bite, and was really impressed. It was delicious. $11.00! So good I want to try to make it myself at home. The pool table costs a buck even, the pitchers were on for $14.25. It's a spacious place with a lot of people, and we still had great service. For really laidback, slightly divey fun, this place is pretty much perfect. I'll be back for sure. read more

I first went to Hecklers as it was the closest bar to the apartment I lived in at the time. The apartment was crappy and I moved but the one thing I missed was having Hecklers next door. I wasn't expecting anything as I walked into this cellar surrounded by motels but it soon became the best thing about my living situation at the time. I love Hecklers and us Scandinavians don't use that word lightly. Hecklers has really good wings and you can choose from so many seasonings (my favorites are blue moon, whiskey bbq and hot). I think there are 50 seasonings to choose from. On Wednesdays (NHL) and Sundays (NFL) you get 10 wings for $3.50 if I remember correctly. I'm actually not a big sportsfan I just like the food that the people of North America eat while watching them. Most of the time the service was fantastic. We actually knew exactly which tables were in the best waitresses section so we'd always just sit there. read more

Went for the first time ever with my fiancé and a friend for the Mick Foley show (Amazing, a must see for wrestling fans!). We showed up early which was great because it was a packed house with patrons and the audience from the earlier show. The host talked to us while we waited on line to grab our seats. They were accommodating when we decided to change our seats right before the show and nice enough to warn us about an upcoming back up in the kitchen due to the show. We ordered all of our food and drinks at once (A giant plate of nachos and the boys ordered Heckler Burgers which they really enjoyed) and they were brought out in a timely manner which was highly appreciated. The opening act was really good and they seemed to have things in hand. They were attentive with our refills and clearing the table during the show. When the show was over and the meet and greet due to begin, there seem to be a bit of mad rush as everyone was lining to pay and get autographs too but they were doing their best. All in all, the food was great and the show was awesome. Left with a smile and Mick Foley's autograph on our attitude era DVD. Definitely heading back. read more

Iv been on the fence about this review I went with three stars cause of two things. 1. It get busyyyy like wait in line at the door for 15-20 min with the promise of 5-10 min every time but once you've invested that 10 min it's hard to turn back ‍ 2. The girls are good at bringing you beers quick and food but the pay system is whack lol but I am impressed with the wing choices lay out of the bar and the hustle and bustle going on around you. Great place for a date or quick bite with the crew. Not so good for a large social gathering though and food is good! But I think they only sell wings but that's why I went. A very fun night! Hecklers was packed to the rafters for a sold-out comedy night (Fridays and Saturdays), but they have plenty of seating so it didn't feel overly crowded. A great selection of local beers as well as imports and a menu with a much better selection than you would normally expect at a sports bar/pub (they have 50 flavours of wings to choose from on Sundays and Wednesdays! Get there early as seating is usually scarce on these nights as well). We ordered the Heckler's poutine which comes with pork pulled from braised pork short ribs and the Pork Bites, both of which came in goodly sized portions and were very delicious! We were lucky enough to have three great comedians on Saturday night, definitely professional quality that had the audience roaring with laughter. Fast and friendly service and a great menu will have us coming back next time we are in town. read more

Top marks for comedy show, not sure I would visit just for food... but holy moly this place gets packed for comedy night. We reserved in advance and arrived on time so got seated right away. We watched as every single table filled up quickly in a rather large place - they even turned away people without reservations. Not really a bad seat in the house for viewing (you can ask to sit away from stage so you're not picked on!). Lots of great talent traveling through (check website for upcoming acts). They ask you to be polite during the show so everyone can hear the stage. It seems everyone orders food at the same time - right before the opening act. You are sitting there for a few hours to watch the show so food on the table makes sense. In spite of the chaos, it's a pretty well run establishment. We ordered nachos and although it took awhile we hardly minded because we were preoccupied with the stand up (which was hilarious!). The nachos were surprisingly large and in charge, typical pub grub fare. Hard to track down a server for refills because they are busy hurrying back and forth from kitchen. A great place for comedy night belly laughs! Tip: tee up tab at bar right before act is over to save yourself a big lineup. read more

We live just down the road from Hecklers, so we have been quite a few times on a Friday night. We usually just call ahead on Friday and are able to reserve a table, unless it's a big headliner then you should book more in advance. There's not really a bad seat in the house, even up front in hecklers row. The comedians are nice and don't pick on you :) unless of course, you give them reason to. On one occasion there was a very loud and drunk table, it was quite distracting. Eventually, the staff asked them to leave...thankfully. The comedian had fun with that, lol. We've had the wings - always yummy. We've also had both desserts, cheesecake and brownie something ....delicious!! Also, a great beer selection! The staff are always friendly and even on busy nights, they manage to be attentive. We have had some seriously huge laughs at the comedians that come thru. They showcase local talent, as well as comedians from across the country and the US. The hosts are usually quite hilarious too. The only down side are the large groups of people that can't keep quiet. However, the staff are usually good to hush them. For 14 dollars on a regular night, you really can't beat this place. My family was staying at a hotel really close to Hecklers. It's dinner time and I noticed on the internet that Hecklers has a Grill Cheese sandwich special on Monday. This is perfect, cause my daughter and my wife loves grill cheese sandwich. So I walk to Hecklers by myself to check out the pub. I noticed right away on the door there is a sign saying "no minors allowed". My son is only 17, and my wife and daughter wouldn't feel comfortable coming here unless I'm with them...can't leave my son at the hotel room alone cause he's disable. Well the waiter at Hecklers saw that I was in a very bad situation, (wife being vegetarian, and my son disabled) he told me that he could make my order to go. Brought back the sandwiches back to the hotel, and they were perfect, everyone loved it. The empathy and compassion I got from my server is a massive game changer, cause after a long day of sight seeing, I didn't have to drive out in search for food. As a lover of dive bars, I would normally endorse a place such as Heckler's, but on this occasion, my irritation rests solely with the service. Upon arrival I was greeted by a server with little drive to give anything other than the fact that she showed up for work tonight. Upon dropping the menus, she walked away, only to return later when my joining friends arrived. She did ask what I wanted to drink before disappearing, but once I had stammered that I wasn't sure yet, was when she left. May have been cool if she would have mentioned specials. Either way, whatever. I went to the drink menu to check out the beer list when I was greeted with a page with 'Beer' for a title, and then lazily followed by "Ask your server for our ever changing selection'. Ok.....Consider having at least your standard list so that those of us hoping (at the very least) for a local beer, can find it there when we can't find the server. There were four of us, three of which were eating. One of my guests had a back and forth battle about wings and other items which might be celiac friendly to which she was suggested to have, salad. Not knowing whether or not the dressing would show up to be balsamic or a balsamic vinaigrette, she requested it on the side. The salad arrived dressed. She then politely sent it back and the server politely took it and returned with a new one. The salad also contained candy coated nuts AND croutons. *sigh* As a server of nearly my entire life and as a hotel worker for over a decade, I'd like to think that service staff are aware of what allergens are present in their menu items and can properly direct their guests through the maze and have them come out unscathed. I prefaced this post knowing that it was a dive bar and knowing the options would be limited....I didn't know that the service was also more than so. When my friend sent her salad back the server was pissed about it, huffed and stormed off without an apology, WITH a major attitude and later snidely said that the nuts were actually fine and are only brown sugar and honey (I think). She then claimed to have saved her salad in the back in the kitchen and asked if she wanted it back (perhaps after the kitchen staff accidentally knocked it onto the floor and replated it?) My lady friend declined the suggestion. The server only returned to give our bills and then did not return to take payment. When payment was given she was silent, seething with irritation for a situation that SHE clearly created and did not thank us or even pretend to smile. I worked at a Ramada Plaza for nearly 6 years *shame* and I can honestly say that had any of our staff or affiliates treated guests in this manner, our employment would have been short lived. I will NOT be returning to this dive bar, I will NOT suggest it as a place for our group to go as I had tonight and I SURE AS HELL will be making a conceited effort to be regurgitating my undesirable experience all over the place in all mediums possible. You may have karaoke Heckler's but the rest won't save your business. Fail. read more

To be totally honest, I started going to Hecklers because I'm an Albertan and this is one of the only places in Victoria that has a Buck Hunter. And it's not just any Buck Hunter, it's Buck Hunter SAFARI! Yeah, it's like the best one. However, I was actually super impressed with the comedy acts here! I've been to a couple now, and while some of the comedians are better than others, I've never had a night where I regretted going. However, there are two reasons why I didn't give Hecklers five stars: 1) They call themselves a sports bar, but they sometimes turn off major hockey games (I'm talking like play-offs or rivalry games) for comedy nights and other functions. This isn't really a bad thing, but if you're not a sports bar, take the sign down. 2) You're not allowed to play Buck Hunter during the comedy acts. This is actually pretty reasonable, but it makes me sad nonetheless. read more

I left before the comedy started, but not before having a nice glass of red wine, and the BEST veggie burger I've ever had, ever. And I've had a lot of veggie burgers. The bun was soft and fresh, the corn salsa and fresh avocado were perfect, and the veg patty was delish. I had a cesar salad with it, and the dressing was so delightfully garlicky, I was in heaven. Got fed up. Said fuck this crap and walked out the door. Never coming back. Another friend later told me she thought the waitress was high or stoned on something because she seemed out of it and got her order and most people's orders wrong. Went here on Vday eve with another couple . We were in a great mood having fun all night ...... Till now ..... We came early as recommended by the bar previously in the day . Showed up at 8 pm and got good seats for the comedians. Our server was pleasant and the drinks were decent . What wasn't decent was the manager or owner of the place . As we were laughing with the opening act ( he was making jokes about where I work ) I was approached by some guy asking me to keep our voices down . As we were no louder than anyone else , I found this odd as the place was laughing out loud anyways . The next comedian came out ....again , I was approached by the same bald guy asking us to not laugh as loud . I asked the people around us if we were bothering them and were told absolutely not . Feeling pretty weirded out now as this guy was sitting beside the stage watching us , I stopped having any kind of fun at all . I mean cmon , this is supposed to be a fun , happy place ?? Anyways , my spouse got up to purchase another round of drinks for our table and were then told we had to leave . Not wanting to cause any kind of scene , I complied and left my drinks on the table . We spent over $200 in there and tipped our server well . As of this review , I still don't know what we did wrong ?? We never heckled the comedian as that would be foolish and we were not doing anything different from anyone else . I've never once been asked to leave a bar never mind the 4 of us in my life . Went here last night to see the stand up comedy they have here. What I liked was that they take reservations and despite being sold out for the night, when I called they made room reserved for us at the bar. What I did not like was that despite the comedy show starting at 9pm they make you get there no later than 8pm. An hour before the show. I assume this is so they can make more money serving you food and drinks. Very fun and lively environment and all three of the comedians were HILARIOUS, which made traveling the 7 minutes away from the touristy parts of town worth it.. I've been coming to hecklers for a couple years every few months and there's a few bartenders that I want to point out there's a guy named Nick And a guy name Nolan that I recognize every time I come around their super sweet super nice and I don't want to blame the food on them but the food could you some work but the comedies great and the people are amazing. There's also a new bartender here she's got blue hair and her name is like Godzilla something and I really like her she made me feel super comfortable made my drink extra fancy because I was talking to her about my personal life and she was super great. I love this bar . Sometimes I'm the only black person in the room and everyone looks at me when a black joke it's told and it's a little Lock awkward d but considering the fact that I'm not in Ontario I guess that's to be expected i would give a hecklerss a good 7 out of 10. I like this place for it's wing nights, but I wouldn't go to another comedy show there. There was somebody who worked there running around telling anyone who whispered to stop (whether someone was on stage at the time or not), it was super distracting and they kept walking in front of everyone. I understand telling people to stop if they're being loud and obnoxious, but the people in the tables surrounding me I couldn't even hear, whereas he was much louder and would walk in front of us if someone nodded and laughed. Which is ridiculous. It made it very difficult to have a good time. I spoke to other people there who felt the same way as I did, and others even got up and left. I was tempted to, but stayed. Only ones heckled here are the paying customers- whether quiet or not- though I can't imagine he wasn't distracting to the comedians as well, since one even mentioned him. I work in the service industry and the way a problem with my friends and I wasn't handled well at all. To start the night was going well. Our server seemed really nice. She got my drink order wrong a couple of times but I didn't say anything and just drank it anyway. All was going well until the end of the night. We went up to pay our bill and all of a sudden I see the server yelling at the rest of the ppl at my table over a bill mix up. One of my friends started yelling back at her and it just escalated from there. Apparently she brought a bill over to our friend telling him he had to pay it and he was telling her he wasn't and that his gf was up at the front paying. The server started swearing. At him and started walking away. He quickly got, started following her and yelling back at her. You could obviously see that she was over served. The server should not have kept serving him. All of a sudden she started crying. I didn't understand because she was the one who started yelling first. We told our friends to go outside while we paid and then we left. In the morning I called to speak to the manager and that did not go well at all. I told him what happened. We did not receive an apology or be asked to come back and give them a second chance. What the manager said instead was that our friend was in the wrong. One of the servers said t was all his fault. But these servers didn't see what fully happened. The manager who I later found out was the owner. He was rude and kept cutting me off even though I wasn't being rude to him. He said things like "I don't know who you are, lots of crazy people come in here and say things". I then went on to say I wasn't crazy. I had not been yelling and I was not rude in anyway to him. What blew my mind was right after I said this he said "I didn't call you crazy and that he didnt use that word.... But he literally just said it. He escalated the situation more when he should have been fixing it. The whole situation wasn't handled the way it should have been. It was a very upsetting experience. Especially for my first time there. A server should not have been yelling a swearing regardless of what is happening. She should have kept her composure. The the manager should not be telling us it's not their fault and saying they won't apologize even after there where 2 separate phone calls from our party saying how upsetting it was. I'm not sure why the server was yelling at our friend to pay his bill after he kept telling her his gf was paying it. She didn't seem to want to listen. Even if she was having a bad day you don't take it out on the ppl who tip you. And even after all that we still left a tip. Enough to cover the kitchen tip out. The whole situation was so upsetting we won't back. I don't understand why when a guest tells a manager how upset they are why they don't try to fix it. He was awful.
