Hector's Mexican Restaurant--if I had a nickel for every time I have been there for dinner, I would own the Texans. Unfortunately for me and fortunately for the Texans and fans alike, this wont happen. But you get the idea. This place is amazing! I've been going to dinner here ever since I was 8 and to this day, it is by far my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant. Being one of only 7 Tex-Mex restaurants in Crosby, this rarely has a wait. If you read my review of Chuy's you know that I'm looking for a Tex-Mex restaurant who does things above and beyond what most Houston area TM restaurants do. Hector's fits this mold perfectly like no other! Prices are fairly moderate but with the size of the plate, you certainly get your money worth. The queso is a Hector's staple, one of the best i have ever experienced. Very smooth and not the overpowering flavor of Cheddar like alot of other Tex-Mex places seem to use. Hector uses a 4 cheese blend with jalapeno's and celery...yeah that celery. As far as the entrees go, I suggest the Carne Guisada, Pechuga Asada, or Enchiladas de Poblanas. All are very tasty, but the Enchiladas are tops at Hectors. This dish comes with arroz y frijoles and 3 large chicken enchiladas with a muy tasty poblano-cilantro cream sauce. To hell with counting calories people...Indulge and give in to temptation!!! You will not regret it one bit. As for dessert try the Mexican Flag or Mexican Coffee drinks to help "settle" your stomach. Now before I finish this, let me say something about the owner Hector. My family and I have known Hector for nearly 14 years and I have never been treated better by a restaurant staff. On May 28th 2005, my father passed away and we went to Hector's with a VERY large group for some "comfort food" after the funeral. We get to Hector's and explain to Hector the bad news and the man decides to pay for all of our meals plus drinks. We didn't ask for this, nor did we even expect anything like that...he did it out of the kindness of his own heart. Its people like him and the care that he showed that makes his restaurant so special to the locals of Crosby. I could spend an entire day writing about how wonderful he was and still is to our family, and it won't even do his justice. God Bless that man. So if anyone decided to take a trip to the thriving metropolis of Crosby, I ask you to stop by Hector's and experience his Tex-Mex. Trust me, you wont leave disappointed! read more

One of my absolute genres of food is Mexican food. As a newcomer to Texas it's been particularly fun and daunting because there are soooooooo many to choose from it's a bit overhwhelming. I've eaten and some of the fanciest most expensive mexican restaurants in the US owned by celebrity chefs to the taco truck at the junk yard (which had the BEST gordita I've ever put in my mouth!) and everything in between. Here's what I like about Hector's. It's a no frills, good mom and pop place with an extensive menu and versatile dishes with some interesting choices you don't always say on a menu. (Good reason to go back). The green salsa is something new for me and I must say it is what I love most about Texas mexican restuaurants. You don't get that in the southeast and I LOOOOOVE it! Theirs was okay. For me a tad bland, but I adored the warm red salsa. The cold red salsa had a great flavor it was just a little sweet for my personal preference but was very flavorful. The chips were chips, there's no such thing as a bad tortilla chip but I prefer the chips that are super thin. I ordered a combo plate with a chile con queso, shrimp enchilada, taco and tostado. It was a lot of food and very cheap, so I didn't get around to the tostado. The taco was typical, the chile con queso had a lot of flavor. Some places it's just the cheese you taste but this was exceptional. The shrimp enchilada would make you want to smack your mama it was so good! After one bite I regretted I didn't have a plate full. I'm so looking forward to trying the crawfish enchilada on my return visit. My husband ordered the Pepito plate. It was a humongous plate of sizzling, chicken, steak, and shrimp on top of perfectly grilled onions and peppers served with homemade corn tortillas. I swear there was enough food on this plate for 3 to 4 people. The meat was well seasoned, tender and flavorful. The shrimp were HUGE! The pico and guacamole served on the side were homemade and delish! Rice and beans were just rice and beans, nothing bad, nothing execeptional. I don't go to a mexican restaurant for rice and beans and I don't judge a mexican joint on their rice and beans. The small frozen house margarita was so good. It wasn't perfectly blended and on the thicker side which is how I like them. Some places serve semi-frozen margaritas that become on the rocks in less than 2 minutes. I hate that! This review is based on one visit but I would recommend it to others and we will return. Looking forward to eating my way through the menu if I can resist the urge not to get a shrimp enchilada every time! read more

Probably the best Tex-Mex east of Houston. Better than anything in Baytown, that's for sure (if you think El Toro is acceptable Mexican food, get lost). They serve up a very good Ceviche (get the fish and shrimp, ask for limes). Really good seafood items. Good three sauces with fresh chips. Correctly mixed soft drinks for once. The "standards" are uncommonly good here: Cheese enchiladas, tamales, rice and refried beans, all nice. More traditional than (and a cut above) Crosby's other two Mexican restaurants (Iguana Joe's and Peso's). Turn off the sports and turn on some Mexican music. [The interior's been recently repainted fresh and the oddly numerous waiters provide better service than in the past]. read more

Excellent and accommodating service. We went in 15 minutes before they closed not knowing and they welcomed us with hospitality. Food is great and authentic. What can I say about Hector's? I eat here almost once a week for lunch. Their chips and salsa are good but sometimes the chips can be stale. There lunch prices are very reasonable and you will leave stuffed every time. The wait staff is great and there is never a wait for a table. The chalupas are my favorite with crispy tortillas, refried beans and ranchero sauce covered with a mound of lettuce, tomatoes and guacamole, finished off with fajita beef. I also like their fajita beef enchiladas and the chicken chimichanga. After writing this review I might have to go there for lunch. read more

I absolutely love Hector's!!! I usually order takeout with my family and always skip around the menu and try new things! The Taco Salad is great, the Quesadillas are awesome, the Enchiladas Verdes are probably my favorite, and the Tostada Deluxe is delicious! I have never had a problem with them and they are always very nice and tell us thank you! I really enjoy eating here and have never really gotten sick or anything from eating there. I love getting Queso for my Taco Salad, it is the best! I love their green sauce!!! I recommend Hector's...it is a great Mexican restaurant! read more

I have been to hectors several times my breakfast cost 5 dollars I leave a 2 dollar tip thats a 40% tip the service is definely not that good!!!!!! In fact they will only bring you ONE cup of coffee they passed by my table several times.NO COFFEE REFILLS!!!!!!! What did I do to deserve that give them a 40% tip? There's a table of really nice older folks n they have the same problem crapy service!!!!!! WOW you would think they could at least bring a second cup. Conculsion dont give tip because it wont matter or better yet dont go!!! Thanks hectors for your crapy service. Went there in the evening and the power was out on the whole restraunt yes dark!! Dont forget the CRACKED coffee cups this is a health hazard it will cause hepatis!!!!!!!Electrical needs maintence too!!! Had no choice had to choose at least 1 star read more

The service and food were terrible. The tamale I had with my dinner smelled and tasted like rotting meat. The waiter was notified. Then the manager talked to us and said he would take care of it then disappeared. We were given the check. Full price. I couldn't even finish my dinner it was so nasty. My family and I have eaten amost everywhere in houston. From dives to 5 star. Hectors is my absolute favorite. I have tried most dishes on the menue and they were all the best I had eaten anywhere. Thats saying alot considering the abundance of good mexican food we have in Houston. When we go, we feel at home. The waiters know us and never have to take a drink order. The Pescado Alcapoco or Cancun Insalada's are the best anywhere hands down. If you are a fan of great food, I highly recomend. read more
