Was back in town this weekend to visit the family, so we hit up Hector's so I could get my fix. Regrettably, I am going to have to knock them down one star to four. To begin, the chips and salsa were still on point, but for not being very busy, the bus boy/waiter did not come around often enough to keep them full. Not poor service, but not the standards Hector's has accustomed me to. Normally, I get the fajitas, but wanting something different, I tried the seafood enchiladas. It's three enchiladas packed with crawfish and shrimp, covered in a white wine cream sauce, and white cheese. The description of the dish had my mouth watering, but honestly, it was a 3 star dish. IMO, it was way too heavy! The white wine cream sauce was delicious, but if you look at my picture, there also spots of orange. I can only assume this was butter or lard. If you're already covering the enchiladas with cheese and a cream sauce, you don't need to add a lot of butter/lard. The crawfish and shrimp also didn't taste fresh and were small, so I assume they were frozen. Again the sauce was good, and I see a lot of potential in the dish, but it needs to be just a bit lighter and have fresh ingredients. My parents also ordered enchildadas (chicken), and they appeared to be 3 stars as well. Might just have to stick to only getting fajitas here.

I wanted to love it here, but could not. Had a burrito and enchiladas -- the beef tastes like dog food. (dont ask me how i know how dog food tastes). On the bright side the chips were good an the queso was delicious. Customer service is top of the line.

Although it was busy when we arrived, we were seated within five minutes, which was impressive. The food was pretty tasty. I ordered the shrimp tacos, and my husband had the beef and chicken enchiladas, we both really enjoyed our meals. The service was good as well, which made the experience even better. We'll definitely be back!

Tonight , I visited the one in Humble off of FM 1960, and once again it did not disappoint. I ordered a very good enchilada combination dish called the Coronado that came with shrimp brochette and enchilada, and a crispy beef taco, but I had them take off the taco and add me an extra enchilada, which they did with no problem. It came with rice and beans and I ordered a side of pico de gallo to go with it. It was piping hot , cheesy, and delicious. zero complaints. And my brother even let me try some of his quail, which I had never tried at any Pappas restaurant before and it too was very good. Super tender, smoky and welled seasoned. Now the reason for the 3 stars was the service. We had two servers and they were both very much in their own worlds.. Messed up my drink order out the gate, inattentive to whether or not we needed things, never once's asked how we were coming along with our meal, ( until the very end of both our meals and our dirty plates were still laying there in front of us) and never asked either one of us if we wanted another drink, and we were sitting at the bar! And these were bartenders!! Thus only the 3 stars

During the pandemic the menu shrunk drastically they took many popular items off the menu and are no longer there. One of them was veggie enchiladas to name. I get the situation that was happening but the items taken off, some should've came back onto the menu. since my last couple of visits I spread my time to visit on certain occasions and I didn't feel the same way as I did years ago the chips were warm and felt like as they were not fresh. I like the jalapeño dip is the same flavor but I feel like the last couple of times that I've gone it was bit watery not sure who's making the batches of sauces but are watered down. Also, on my last visit, I heard overheard servers talking about other coworkers which is not cool if this issues in the restaurant, let it be between yourself on text email or outside of the restaurant not for customers to hear. Maybe it's just this location that is going downhill but I will not be back here. I sure hope this works out.

The restaurant had a grungy feel, they had one lady waiting tables (she was working very hard) and the bathrooms were filthy and stunk out into the hallway. We met the lady who claimed to be the manager, she did nothing to help while we were there other than talk on the phone. Our family moved from the area and enjoy visiting Monterey's when we go thru Humble. No more, after yesterday. It makes me sad to see this iconic restaurant get run into the ground. There are not many Monterey's left and I don't see the Humble location lasting much longer. I'm giving a two star rating (opposed to one star) only because the food was decent.

I have passed this place for years and never stopped. My Hispanic friends asked be to meet them…read morethere for Cinco de Mayo, and I obliged. I know I tend to do long reviews, but I'll try to be brief. The good: This place stayed packed with a very diverse crowd. They had live music/ singing and a dj of sorts the entire time I was there. The energy from everyone was infectious the entire dining experience. The salsa was definitely freshly made, and was some of the best salsa I ever tasted. Someone's abuela is in the kitchen making that salsa. If you are a drinker, they sometimes passed by with shots for people to try. The bad: I hate to say it, but the price to portion size is out of whack. For what I paid for the dinner size of the Casador mix, I've gotten the 2 person, hot box, sizzle thingy, to share at other Mexican restaurants. I hate paying high prices for Mexican food! Don't blame me when I grew up getting 10 tacos for under $5! I was also underwhelmed with the seasoning of their meats. The ugly: The service is great, but they are truly understaffed. I could point out a number of factors of why I made that statement. That would include them only refilling my glass once, and I was there for over 2 hours. The true ugly kicker for me was that it took a half of hour just to get my bill so I could pay and leave. In gist, I would go back, but I know to expect small portions, a pricey bill, and having appetizers give a bigger flavor pop than the entrees. The chorizo cheese hit harder than my mixed plate sadly. I wish I would have taken photos of the enchiladas plates. The enchiladas looked like large flautas. Don't be stingy with your portions people!
