The portions were generous, and everything was full of flavor. Cam was a wonderful host, and she is hilarious too! We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Mr. Craig, who was gracious and a joy to speak with. Great food, great people, and a truly memorable experience. We will definitely be back!

I visited for lunch on a weekday where they have daily specials which save a few dollars off of the regular price. Upon reaching the steam table their digital display still had the previous days entrees, so I had to wait to get up to the counter to see the selection for the day which consists of 6-7 entrees. With the regular meals, you receive an entree, 2 sides, rice and cornbread. They offer tea, Pepsi products and for alcohol, it's beer, wine and daiquiris. They have loud r&b music playing in the background. I chose the "red" meatloaf (they have brown or red sauce), collards and Mac n cheese. Keep in mind they serve your food and drinks in to go packaging, regardless of whether you dine in, or get it to go. Food portions are large too. The meatloaf portion I received was large, delicious and juicy. The slice was around 2 inches thick. The mac n cheese was good, and actually ended up being my favorite item. The collards are pretty typical with a lot of vinegar and cooked for a long time. Below the meatloaf was a base of white rice and brown gravy which is basically a filler. You receive 2 cornbread muffins, which I don't really eat but I ate a couple bites and they are pretty sweet. The owner/manager was friendly and greeted me while in line, stopped by my table to check on me, and even said goodbye as I was leaving.

The entire restaurant is decorated with old-school totems & signs that make you travel back in time. It is homey and whimsically designed--anyone would appreciate this. The cornbread reminds me of a version of the intoxicating rolls from Texas Roadhouse (BUT this cornbread is better) it is served with a cinnamon & regular butter. I always order a new item when I return, and this time the Philly cheesesteak was the main character. It was meaty and scrumptious & the onion rings added a nice touch. Servers here feel like family and who doesn't love that! Also please try the root beer or creme soda they are crafted by themselves!! Food: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 1000/10

Absolutely awful. I ordered the deluxe country breakfast and my husband just ordered sausage gravy…read moreand biscuits. Preface, everyone seemed in a terrible mood upon walking in. I haven't been to Humble city cafe in years and am so disappointed in how much it's changed. They claim home made biscuits and gravy, that is a complete lie. Those of us who make home made biscuits and sausage gravy can tell the difference. The gravy didn't have any flavor and the sausage was a sausage patty the threw on the grill, cooked and chopped into huge pieces and tossed into the gravy. The only thing that may have been home made was the pancakes. My chicken fried steak was literally almost nothing but fried breading. Paper thin steak to the point we literally couldn't taste meat and it disentegrated into tiny little crumb sized pieces when cut into. I ordered my eggs fried over medium-hard, yolk came spilling out when I began cutting into them. The country potatoes are frozen, not home made at all. The waitress seemed shocked that I wasn't happy with the chicken fried steak and begrudgingly took it back. I didn't bother mentioning the eggs or potatoes. I took maybe 5 bites of the entire meal. I took my losses, paid my bill and left. We went home and made our own breakfast. This is not the same food, atmosphere, or friendliness we had become accustomed to in the past and this is why so many small businesses end up falling. Kids or grand kids take over and try to take the easy and lazy way out, at the expense of the restaurants reputation and viability. What a shame.

Service was excellent…read more Ambiance--usual diner feel Food: Ox tails delicious--tad too spicy but I enjoyed every bite! Rice & gravy gummy with no seasoning! Cabbage was good--greens very spicy! Gave to my sister who rated 9 out of 10 would recommend. Cornbread was like hard day old bread and went into the trash! Bbq platter: BIL loved his plate! Said potato salad was meh but all else good! Hotlinks, ribs, and beans! Sister got fried chicken and added mac&cheese along with yams! Chicken was fresh but not seasoned much! Mac&cheese good for diner menu option, and yams were okay she said! Greasy spoon Mac is better IMO but Granny's oxtails the best I've had here in H-town! Although spicy/hot food is not my favorite I did enjoy them If the cornbread were softer & sweeter I think the rating would be 4! Would I go back? Hmm! Yea for the tails of course! I saw they have catfish & black eyed peas so I may try those next time as well! Overall 3.5 but can't do half stars By default I left it at 4

Anyway, I was able to get past the communication barrier in order a two piece fish two piece shrimp meal with two sides with one side being the hush puppies and the other is fries. The fish seemed like it was seasoned pretty good. I was only able to taste a piece of it and also the shrimp and of course I did taste the fries. They were OK, but not as good as five guys when the cashier offered condiments. I noticed that he only gave one half of a container of tartar sauce . That's not good because how come I'm getting a full container of hot sauce, but not a full container of tartar sauce, make it make sense. They did give me some plasticware which I'm not using with this meal. Last but not least I tried the strawberry banana pudding. It was a 3 out of five. It's pudding I mean, what can you expect.

The day I visited, they were playing zydeco and Louisiana/southern style music pretty loudly from the speakers, so if you don't like that sort of thing, with them trying to get you in the mood to eat catfish, this may not be your type of place. Their fountain machine was broken during my visit, so a bottled soda was the only option at the time. Although they have tables inside, half were out of service and not available for use. Luckily, most customers seem to order take out anyway. After looking at the small menu, I decided on the regular fish basket with a soda in the cooler. This meal came out to around $15 after tax. Fish basket - served in a to-go box. Upon opening, the fish looked pretty thin and pathetic, but after eating the filets they were fairly juicy and well-seasoned. The hush puppies are standard. The red beans and rice is actually pretty good! Their tartar sauce has been adjusted and has an orangish color with orange speckles. Overall, this quick service restaurant was alright for me but they are definitely trying to make it a to-go kind of place and for me, I am looking for a nice sit down place to relax during my lunch break without all the loud music, hustle and bustle. Plus, I rarely eat catfish, so I don't see myself returning anytime soon.
