Hedges gets by on its location, which is beautiful, but that's about all it has going for it. The place needs some serious updating, both in the decor and the menu. Everything seems very old fashion, uninspire and heavy. With all the locally grown produce they could do a lot better with the food offering and really make Hedges something special, if they were so inclined. Start with a new chef, someone trained in culinary arts. Go farm fresh and locally grown. And get rid of that godawful hokey banquet hall interior design and decor. Up your game, people. read more

Hedges has a nice relaxing atmosphere and great food. It's nice for a summer dinner on the lake, and has wonderful scenery out the front. Their seafood and steaks are prepared well and the service is great too. It's worth the drive. read more

Very disappointing! I was served the wrong drink to start out the evening. However, the meal, shrimp and veal parm, was awful. It was dry and cold. I have been there in past years and have had good meals.....something is amiss. Many people I spoke to about my experience agree. Not nearly as good as it used t be......go somewhere else! read more

We went here for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Everything, from the lobster bisque to salads to the prime rib (wife had the tuscan seafood pasta) and the peach sundae was perfectly prepared and presented. The ambiance was gorgeous with a beautiful view of the lake. The waitress was engaging and the service was excellent. Yes, its was pricey, but it was not more than what I expected it would be. The only good thing about dinning at Hedge's is the view of Lake Ontario. The food (small portion size) was tasteless. Two of our friends and I each had the Chicken Divine, a twist on Chicken French, the chicken was swimming in tasteless juice, the pasta (served on the side) was also tasteless, very poorly seasoned. We were startled by the cheering in the bar, not a relaxing time at all, I'm not sure how they stay in business. The severs are dressed appropriately but the hostesses are not. The hostesses were dressed for a biker bar, not for a restaraunt that is super expensive ( $220+ tip for 4, no appetizer, 2 desserts) Black jeans, tiny shirts ( midriff showing) and cut off vest. I was with my parents for what I thought would be a wonderful dinner. My Father's dinner included a salad but because of digestive issues he requested soup instead. The waiter said it wasn't an option unless he wanted to pay for it, so we asked to speak with a manager. Not sure who the manager was but I believe it was one of the owner's sons. He stated that swapping soup for salad wasn't an option. He said "If you don't like it, there's the door" . Needless to say we were shocked and embarrassed and left. I have never in my life experienced such craziness. I will NEVER, EVER Go Back there again. Location and view of Lake Ontario from this restaurant on a warm summer day is great . The building, bar and seating area were great. Unfortunately there were some glitches. The food does not compare to the physical setting. Why would a restaurant serve the imitation crab (made from pollock I believe) in a crab melt sandwich ? On a warm summer day I asked for a refill for my ice tea which had a ton of ice and very little tea. A new glass of ice and very little tea shows up. I am then charged for the second glass. That was strange. Most restaurants do not charge for the refill and if they do, they would tell you. One of my dining companions had breaded scallops. You guessed it, right out of the freezer and not fresh. We had an infant crying at the table next to us. The mother had no clue about the noise and sat there for the next 10 minutes until they left. It is necessary for a restaurant manager to step in and tell clueless mothers that they should take the infant out to avoid bothering the rest of the patrons. No effort was made by management to do this. This place could be a 5 star location but instead they revert to a 2 star diner type because of their inability to serve first class food and be oblivious to normal restaurant dining practices. The lovely lakeside restaurant on the banks of Lake Ontario has it all. Great view, very nice seafood and more, and good service. We had a relaxing lunch here on a weekday afternoon. The fried scallops with fries & coleslaw were very tasty and the Crab cakes were excellent too. Our waitress was attentive and the food arrived promptly. We loved the lake view so much, we stayed and sampled one of the desserts. We had excellent coffee and shared a slice of carrot cake that was just right. The nautical decor is a little bit over the top, but pleasant. The dining room with linen tablecloths is light, airy and large. Out on the lakeside patio & lawn there is comfortable seating to have drinks and enjoy the view of the lake up close, a long pleasant bar is inside. The restaurant can accommodate some large groups too, there were two gatherings of 10 or more people while we were dining, but we were seated far enough away so that we were not disturbed at all. We will definitely return here for a dinnertime meal very soon! read more

The food was fine, the view is always excellent, all of which was destroyed by the absolute terrible service. We were rushed, none of us had finished our appetizers and the waitress was standing there with our main course. They are killing themselves, Judy and Barry would be embarrassed by how the place has gone down hill. We love Hedges. I love the vintage 70's vibe in the decor and the old school wicker domed chairs at some of the tables. Its a gorgeous view at sunset and if you are lucky you can find an ADK chair to have a glass of wine and watch. Hedges food has always been good. It's pricey but I think worth it for a nice night out. You HAVE to order their clams casino. It's a must to start any meal. Sometimes we just go sit at the bar, with a couple cocktails, and a dozen of those suckers. They are filled to capacity and topped with crispy bacon. I can never get enough and we normally fight over the last one. I have had several things for a main course at Hedges and I can say nothing has ever been bad. Their steak was probably my favorite with the crab cakes a close second. Be prepared to spend $150/couple if you order an appetizer/drinks. Dessert is also a force to be reckon with. I have never ordered it but there are EXTRA LARGE hot fudge sundaes you can order that honestly can be shared by 8 people. We recently ordered the strawberry shortcake and it was to die for - perfect ending to a summer meal. If you are into people watching - check out the bar on a Friday night, Cougar Central! It's amazing. You get it, girl! We love Hedges, and you will too. Perfect Date night or special occasion dinner. Booked a private party at Hedges. We were given quotes for the menu choices and told that beverages were not included. That was fine. One of the menu choices was a burger. During the party, manager approaches and says some of the guests were requesting cheese, but they would need to charge extra for that. I said fine. She also said some of those people were asking for fries instead of chips (although I later found out they were asked if they would like them). I was told I would need to pay extra for those as well. During dessert, when the cake was being served, coffee pots were put out (coffee cups, creamer, and sugar were already on the table). Wait staff had disappeared so one of the guests started serving the coffee. Suddenly, wait staff reappeared and started frantically trying to write individual checks for our guests for their coffee! We hailed the manager and told her it was not only inappropriate, but embarrassing. When the check was delivered, she said the charge for the coffee had been removed. Upon looking at the check, however, I saw that they had charged us $30 for 5 side orders of fries ($6/person on an $11 entree!). Needless to say, we will not be booking any more parties there in the future! read more

26, Sept. 2012, Made reservations for windows seats with view of lake. That did not happen even thought tables were empty. The super waitress was very good but over worked no busboy help no table backup help. The poor women was taking orders, serving coffee, cleaning tables caring large trays all this with a smile. The owners could afford some back up help for the waitress for cost savings they have on the subpar food they serve. The sauce for my seafood dish was white water as cooked in a microwave. The ice tea was also just colored water. The decor is very warn and out of date for the cost. Maybe some more reviews like this will get come action and help for this prime location. read more

Fantastic location, really disappointing and overpriced (for what you get) food. I've been coming here for 3 decades, usually with my parents, occasionally with friends. If we are looking for a fantastic sunset dinner or drinks with local (Webster) friends out on, or near, the water, or want to come by boat, this is one of our choices. If we want a really good meal that satisfies my need for quality & proportion, we usually go elsewhere. 2 years ago we came there for a meal and I ordered the pasta special. It was so horribly prepared I couldn't finish, nor did I want to take the leftovers home. A few meals (and years) later that were just satisfactory, and just last week we came again for an impromptu dinner. I had the grouper special, and my husband had the lamb chops. The grouper was served over what they call 'risotto' and what I called creamed rice smothered in cream/cheese sauce (I make a mean risotto myself, so I have a clue). The fish was covered in the same sauce. Grouper shouldn't need to be smothered in sauce. I couldn't finish it, wasn't inspired to overeat based on taste alone (which I usually do a lot), and I spent the next two days with a very unhappy stomach. Husband's lamb was overdone and tasteless. To top it off the bill for 2 entrees was about 30% higher than what we thought it was worth. The menu is very heavy, somewhat traditional, and in need of an update. I desperately want this to become the place to which we go when the thought of going out to a dinner in Webster crosses our minds, and keep coming back hoping that that next time will be the winner, but it hasn't happened yet. Once in a blue moon we'll walk away saying that it was surprisingly good, but with competition cropping up (Southpoint Restaurant on Irondequoit Bay), these guys are going to have to up their game. The bar scene for locals in Webster can be a lot of fun. EDIT 5/10/17: Went here with family out of convenience...and the food was EXCELLENT this time! I asked our server if the chef had changed, and the answer was no. This location offers one of the best if not the best views in the Rochester area. Feel free to kill some time in the lakefront adirondack chairs while waiting for your table or just go for drinks, we've done both now. There is a cocktail waitress or two available if you get too comfortable to walk back indoors to the bar. The food was ok, but the service is mighty friendly. We started with the steamed clams and they were definitely the best part of dinner. just got back from a definitely sub-par dinner at Hedges. We haven't been in a while ...and won't be back until we hear things have changed. To begin - the entrance wasn't well marked at all - so we ended up going in the patio entrance - and then had to walk around trying to find the hostess, getting ignored by the wait staff as they could see we weren't sure where to go - after finally stopping 1 waitress that did her best to ignore us - she gave us vague hand motions to sort of indicate where the hostess might be found. Finally located the hostess that basically ignored us until we asked her if she were indeed the hostess - she brought us to a table with air conditioner going strongly just over us. Asked for a different location - we got moved 1 seat over - ever so much warmer (sarcasm). so - starting with what was good - the wine (they had an adequate list - so we could pick one we knew would be good; and our waiter gave good service. The salad - served with 1 ( yes one) grape tomato - come on - the tomato harvest is in right now - a measly single tomato on a very sparse scattering of assorted lettuces, and a single cucumber slice - and then served with some sort of "straw-like" crispy things - after ordering a gluten-free meal - hello - these have gluten in them. And - ordered a balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side - so what did I get - a big bottle of balsamic vinegar and a big bottle of olive oil ( not even in small cruets for easy of use): to sprinkle on salad myself - I ordered a dressing - not oil & vinegar. And then - before we were done - the fish appeared - seemed awfully fast to have received freshly cooked food - know we know why. We had the supposedly "seared" mahi-mahi with mango salsa & cheesy-truffle risotto. It no way was the fish seared, pan-browned or grilled - it was poorly done - more of a cross between poaching or cooked in a pan - flavorless! the mango salsa - while freshly chopped - lacked seasoning or brightness which would have helped the tasteless fish. My guess - it was pan boiled and kept on the hotplate or warmer - not freshly prepared for us. And the risotto - what a sloppy,gooey mess - not a well prepared risotto at all. A few edame beans thrown in (likely frozen) - and there was supposed to have been truffle oil used in the preparation - I beg to differ - maybe some olive oil - - and the whole mess was spread over the whole plate, not mounded or set to the side - what a huge disappointment over all! The green beans were actually well prepared - retaining a slight crispness to them. Dessert - they had "Cheesy Eddies' desserts - while nicely presented - nothing to write home about for either the flour-less chocolate cake or the carrot cake. Over all - as we sat trying to enjoy ourselves we noticed a number of other couples having same issue with air conditioning - it chilled our dinners right down within moments - as we were about to order dessert - the air was finally turned off. In watching the other dinners and their wait staff - the staff seemed very inexperienced and hesitant - - with no real knowledge of what they were serving - and what makes a well prepared dinner - or how to serve/clear a meal. Again -we were lucky our waiter was attentive - but lacked any discrimination - he actually highly recommended the risotto (I'm guessing he's not had a good risotto before). All in all - our dinner cost $108! - for a very sub-par dinner and experience. This was supposed to have been our anniversary celebration. Heck no - we will go out again to another , much better restaurant. Very sad to see it go down hill - used to be much better. read more

Had a fantastic server Amy food was ok but overpriced for the other 3 people at my table , I ordered hedges cut of prime rib rare I got a huge piece of rib medium well cook had taken a half inch of that was end cut and tried to serve reheated prime rib for rare I sent back, owner sent it back out to my table and told server to make me cut into it to see if it was red which it was not. Ordered a replacement meal was just as bad in less than five minutes veal was warm at best,shrimp deep fried for the veal and shrimp Parmesan dinner . First and last time there.!!!! read more

On Saturday, 10/16/16 the weather was beautiful and since there are only a few upscale restaurants on the water in the Rochester area we booked a dinner reservation at Hedges Nine Mile Point Restaurant. This was our first visit. We found this gem is a great venue and value, which provides delicious food and quality customer service. All the food and the service was in a word: Outstanding! If you have a special occasion to celebrate and want to make it memorable, or you are looking for a great dinner with the sunset included at no extra charge, this is first on our list. We just returned from a disastrous dining experience at Hedges. We were seated at a table next to a couple with 2 very unruly children who ruined our evening. This is a pricey restaurant where one would expect to dine in comfort and not be distracted by children screaming and running through the restaurant. When we complained, we were told nothing could be done, Well, something can be done. We will not return to this restaurant and we will not recommend it to anyone. We had 7:00 reservations for a party of 9 Saturday August 9 to celebrate three birthdays. Though we expected delays due to the popularity of Hedges, we were less than impressed with poor service and sub standard cuisine. Other large parties who were seated after us received their food prior to our party. No apologies were made by our sever, nor was any attempt made to explain the delays. When our food finally arrived, it was lukewarm and fair at best regarding flavor and preparation. When we asked to speak to the manager, the hostess was engaged in conversation and ignored our request. Upon a second request, the manager was arrogant, unapologetic, and condescending. Hedges is a treasured landmark and though the setting is stunning, we will never return due to such poor service and lackluster cuisine. read more

Well let me start off with first, we went to Hedges because of its beautiful views of the lake. Unfortunately the night that we went it was raining, no big deal we'll make the best of it. It was downhill from the moment we walked in the door! Literally! We were welcome to Hedges by a waitress practically plowing us over at the main entrance to run out and have a cigarette. This is while my husband was holding the door open for me in the poring rain. She didn't even let us enter the restaurant, but ran right past us! Then we were greeted by a friendly woman standing at a booth/counter outside the bar. She informed us that she wasn't the hostess and we needed to step to the left past the bar to the hostess station. ( very disorganized and weird) Ok thank you! So next my husband and I headed to the bar for a drink. The bartender said he would be right with us, ok fine. As we waited there we couldn't help but notice all numerous empty dirty glasses along the bars ledge. The glasses were random from beer, to Margarita, wine, high balls just sitting there dirty on the bar! As I was standing there, I couldn't help but notice that the decor is probably the original from 50 years ago! The staff was incredibly unprofessional and seemed very overwhelmed! Running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Ok the food, really slow, cold and way over priced and on a scale of 1to10 a 4 @ best!My husband had planed on ordering the surf and turf, but was so pissed with the service and quality of "the famous clams casino"! He just got the same fish special as I, at a special price of 35.00! We waited 35 min before our waitress even took our meal order. Btw guess who our server was? You got it, the one who almost ran us over. The fish was ok, but the Risotto was cold and looked & tasted like wallpaper glue! Not what it used to be! My husband and I visited on a busy Saturday night in August 2000. We had a wonderful server Leanne. Her recommendations were spot on! From Manhattans to veal oscar to surf and rib to the pecan pie. We visited several times over the years. We returned in 2013 and recently 2016. 2013 the service was slow and appeared the servers had more tables than they could handle.The food was not the quality of past visits and we learned Leanne no longer worked their. We chaulked it up to a bad night.We returned on a slow evening a few weeks after 2016 opening and it was the most awful,rude service we have ever experienced and food not worth the money paid! Avoid waiter, Rob. He was loud, overbearing and called we two female physicians--out for dinner- "Girls". We asked what the house red wine was and when Rob told us "Rex Goliath"--we passed and asked for another red wine he told us he would bring "Simi". After dinner we were shocked to see $30 on the bill for two glasses of wine. He told us Simi was $15 per glass. When we suggested he let customers know that before hand he shrugged and walked away. Before dinner we had a cocktail at the bar and even though the bar was empty, the bar tender plunked down several dirty glasses in front of us. We moved. He then decided to base himself in front of us to make drinks. We were trying to have a conversation. Dinner was not good. Prime rib was dry and overdone...no drippings--just overdone meat. My wife and I went to Hedges to celebrate her birthday. We were seated in a great table with amazing views of the lake. Our waitress Kerry came over right away to take our drink orders and tell us the specials. My wife ordered a lemon drop martini and I got my usual bourbon on the rocks. Her martini came out with the glass one quarter full with the remainder in a mini carafe in a glass of ice. ( nice touch). Kerry took our orders as the bus persons delivered some nice warm rolls and some pickled beets. The beets were wonderful. After the beets, we were surprised by a brucetta that was out of this world. I had ordered the steamed clams special an my wife a shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail had an extra scoop of horseradish in with the cocktail sauce in case you wanted to spice it up. ( another nice touch). Our salads were next and they did not disappoint. Followed by our entrees of lamb chops for my wife and prime rib for myself. This was the first visit made to this establishment by my husband and me for lunch. My husband said his sandwich was okay. I had ordered the Beef Brisket Reuben which included French fries and a salad. It started off with a very good crisp salad. That is where it ended. I cut into my Reuben sandwich and found it difficult to cut. After that first bite that tasted burnt, I thought perhaps it was just the corner. When I turned it over, I found the, not toasted bread, burnt bread. I took a taste of the shoestring French fries and found them so overcooked that it crunched. The next 2 or 3 were the same, and I decided to forego them. I scraped off the meat, cheese and sauerkraut (a very thin layer) and ate that (after all I was hungry) and decided to let the matter drop. I beckoned the waitress to our table and showed her the burnt bread. My husband had finished his sandwich, so she removed both plates. She returned with our bill including my fare and I told her I decided not to pay for mine. She left and sent back a woman in charge who loudly scolded me that I should have immediately sent it back and they'd rectify it by sending another plate. She said they preferred not to lose money. That didn't make sense to me. They already would lose money by dumping the original and replacing with another plate, thereby already having lost money. If they had a worthy chef, a plate like mine would never have left the kitchen. I know what Anthony Bourdain would have said about that dish! Well, they have also lost 2 customers and any future customers that I shall apprise of this incident. read more
