I had been coming here to get my hair done since last fall. Mimi always did a good job. I never left disappointed but I rarely left with what I wanted either. I was ready for something more stylish and "different". When your stylist stops listening it's time to move on. Also - they just seem to always be very busy. My time is just as valuable as theirs and the last two appointments I usually ended up waiting at least 30 minutes past my scheduled time. It's the same for nail appointments. They really should get some extra stylists and technicians to keep up with the business. I unfortunately won't be back. It's a shame because I like keeping my business in the neighborhood. read more

Heights salon is fantastic, we have been customers for several years. my husband and I get frequent mani/pedis and it is always a fun, relaxing and enjoyable experience. The staff is friendly and respectful and they do great work. They are thoughtful to know us by name and treat us like family when we come. We are always satisfied with the service and results we get! There is always a great variety of colors, including many, many shellac options. Prices are reasonable. Definitely the salon of choice! read more

I have a love, hate relationship with this place. Have gone to this place for years when I lived in the area and got to know the workers well. Most of them are very friendly. I recently moved and have tried other places and honestly, it was an eye opener. This place is cheap but you get what you pay for. I have often come home from this place with uneven paint and nail filing on both my toes and hands but since I know the people, I'm too nice to say anything. I also don't appreciate the rushed service when it starts to get busy. It's like they'll spend time on you if there's no demand but once people start coming in, your time is up. Also, I distinctly remember asking to have a single nail fixed as I messed it up typing on my phone while the paint was drying. Instead of taking off the polish and repolishing, the worker decided to add another coat of paint. This in turn made that nail grossly darker than the rest of my nails and this was after I told her I was getting my engagement photos done that day. Anyway, long story short I'm not coming back. They're cheap compared to other places though if you're looking to save money. read more

I have been coming here to Mimi for YEARS for various things. I live very close by, they fit me in 99% of the time, and you can't beat the price. I admit, a previous reviewer is correct about the strong chemical smell...and I have had to wait sometimes, even with an appt. In my opinion, I still rate it 5 stars b/c you "get what you pay for" in most cases and this salon is not swanky. The services are 5 star. I have had more artistic cuts/color, however, I pay more than double for them. I come here for color and today a corrective cut. I had a LS to a swankier salon and they butchered my hair. It's certainly not the worst service I've ever received, but for the amount of time I had to wait, I would have expected 5 star service. I sat with my feet in lukewarm water for about 20 minutes before someone came over to do my manicure, and it was flawless, but by the time someone came to do my pedicure, my feet looked like raisins, and she kept making faces at them and asking me "what happened?" I'd probably try them once more, just to be sure, but ultimately, I don't expect them to be my go-to place. read more

I've been coming to the Heights salon regularly for the last 3 years; I have come for mani-pedis but my favorite by far is the haircuts and coloring that Mimi provides. 1. If you are looking for frou frou services- this isn't the place. The ladies at the salon know exactly what to do and it's often times efficient and well done. 2. Mimi is an expert stylist and colorist; she's also patient but my only frustration if there are too many customers then you might have to wait a while. Just ask her candidly if it takes too long when you can come back for a quick cut. 3. The ladies take their time to get to know you and often times advise on things that you yourself wouldn't expect; for example- waxing on sensitive skin, hairstyles that suit you etc. I've been to the best salons and am willing to pay for great haircuts/ styles but I find myself coming always back to Mimi and the Heights Salon! read more

I went in by mistake. I was on my way to another salon. Once there I thought a would give it a try. They didn't seem too busy. Not as fancy as other salons in the area. Big mistake. It was not very clean. There were nail trimmings on the chairs. They put me in the pedi chair with the water on right away but kept me waiting. After more than 20 minutes I asked if they had forgotten about me. They signaled to me that one of the nail techs that was still working on a customer would be helping me soon. I left instead. They insisted that they were "really busy" although there were only two other customers getting their feet done. They were probably short handed but at that point the messiness of the place made me too wary of waiting any longer. read more

I received what I came for, so I don't want to complain a lot. The cut and color I received today (via MiMi) was very similar to what I get at my regular hairstylist, except today it cost me $100 not $200 and the $100 difference is definitely worth those things that were irritating: It was a madhouse in here most of the time I was here, which leads me to the length of time. I can because a friend recommended it. Ms Mimi was exceptional she listened to way I wanted my haircut and did as so. I give Ms Mimi a 5 star. The reason I give it only 3 is for the establishment because I walk in and it smells awful. There was no ventilation or the door open to have acrylic solutions odor to go. Then to the person in front (not even looking at me) was like "First time here, what service do you want?" I said Yes and before I finish she interrupts and says "ok seat down someone will call you." Then a Ms Tami calls me to wash my hair. Well as we walk to the sink bowl it wasn't even clean from the previous use. She chuckles and says "sit you will be fine" So ask her clean it first. As she washes my hair rough (with her nails) wets my whole face and my shirt through the whole process. She then hands me a towel and says so you can dry your face and shirt. Ms Mimi comes a tells her something and so Tami walks me the chair right away. Again Ms Mimi was nice and apologized fixed my hair. The other she be like her courteous, professional and attentive to the customers especially new ones. I will go again but only have Ms Mimi attend me. read more

As soon as I walked into the Heights Salon, I almost fell over backwards because of the overpowering smell of nail chemicals. That can't be good for you! Now, although this place seems to be primarily a nail salon, there were a couple of good Yelp reviews for Mimi the hairstylist, and I had booked a hair appointment earlier in the day. When I entered the salon, everyone was busy so I grabbed a magazine and sat down. It was just before 4pm, when my appointment was scheduled. At 4:15 one of the nail techs came up to ask what I was doing there (not super friendly) and I told her I had a hair appointment. Another girl there said she had a hair appointment with Mimi, too, at 4:15pm. At 4:20 Mimi came over, confused about why there were two of us waiting for appointments. She grabbed her appointment book and told me that she had mistakenly scheduled me for the next day at 4pm, and that she had called me to tell me about the mistake (I had not gotten a call, and a quick look through my phone told me that I hadn't missed any calls, either.) Mimi said that she could fit me in quickly after she cut the other girl's hair... but by this point I had a headache from the strong chemicals wafting through the air, and anyway, I didn't want my haircut to be a rush job, so I left. Now, the reviews for the Heights Salon are generally good, so I might have been there on an off day, but I use Yelp a lot to pick out places to eat, drink, get my hair cut, etc. and in my opinion this is NOT the place to try. read more

I brought a photo of a hair style, prior to appointment my hair was shoulder length. Photo was approx. 2 inches shorter. My cut looks nothing like the photo, I am not a picky person, I understand hairstylists cannot work magic, but at least the length requested should be pretty close. Instead, I was scalped. Not exaggerating. Scalped. If I asked for a crew cut this cut resembles a crew cut. And so very dark. I will never return to this salon. I am horrified every time I look in the mirror. read more

I can't count how many awful nail shops I've tried around the Heights and Montrose area, but I think I've finally found a keeper. I've only used Lynn for my solar nails and she does an excellent job, which means a lot since I'm the pickiest person I know. The curved white line is always perfection. Tell her exactly what you want and she will deliver. She does a wonderful job shaping and filing, too. Tina gives a wonderful pedicure. She's very detailed, gives a nice massage and the polish is flawless. For this type of nail salon, it's kept clean, and the prices are competitive. read more

I needed a new place to get my eyebrows done because I'm new to Houston. For the past 3 years I've gotten my eyebrows threaded for $15, but came across this place that waxes for $7! I decided to try it out because I hadn't had them waxed in a while, and they do a great job! I asked for a highlight and received a dye job that fried my hair. I sat in her chair for over 3 hours and the result is hair that is breaking off and looking nothing like what I asked for. I wouldn't recommend Mimi to a bald person. read more

Over all the pedicure was okay but I gave it a one star because they re-use emery boards and the last thing I want is someone filing my toe nails after they have been used on someone else's feet. The tools are not sterilized. After using the foot pumice on my feet the lady just put it back mixed in with other tools...Gross!!!! read more

I'm going to say my experience at this salon was just ok, The lady doing my pedi was trying to change my mind on my decisions on color and kept trying to get me to spend more money. I know they can be a little pushy but this one took the cake. She was trying to do my pedi to fast and I really disliked that. On the other hand the lady doing my mani at the same time was very nice and took the time to male sure I was satisfied. I originally wrote a negative review after my appointment for a shellac manicure for this place and then deleted it once I got home and cooled off. 5 days later and my nails are already chipping/coming up at my cuticle and I'm standing by my original negative review of this salon. The work is sloppy and uneven and on some of my nails nowhere near my actual nail. I will never go back and will be returning to Q nail on W. Gray. read more

I have been going to Mimi at Heights Salon for about a year now. At the time, I lived in the Heights, but since we have moved 15 miles away, I still go to her. Mimi is a perfectionist when it comes to pleasing the customer. Her prices are very good and she is much better than some of those fancy name salons that charge triple for the same thing Mimi does, only she is much better! I usually bring a picture of what I would like the end result to be. She gives me her advice before she cuts my hair, letting me know what my hair will or won't do to look like the picture. She doesn't make me feel like she's in a hurry to get to her next appointment and I like that. She is a true professional! read more

I made an appointment on a Thursday for Saturday afternoon to have highlights and a haircut. The hairstylist assured me that she had an opening. I walked in and signed in at the front desk indicating my appointment time and who it was with. I waited for about 20 minutes thinking that the stylist was finishing up with another customer. There was no one to greet me, but I thought this was alright considering it was a Saturday. After several minutes, one of the employees approached me and asked who I was waiting for. I gave her the name of the stylist. She then told me that the stylist I was waiting for had just walked out the door and left for the afternoon. The girl who was supposed to have styled my hair had passed by me several times and never said a word. I had not been here before, so I was unaware of what my stylist looked like. The employee told me to call back and make another appointment in which I responded "no" since there was a clear disregard for customer service. I had been waiting around 20-25 minutes and decided to take my business elsewhere. I'm not sure about the other services here, but clearly some people need to hone their customer service skills and professionalism. read more
