I compare grocery stores to H-E-B, which was recently voted the best grocery store in the country. Heinen's does a decent job ... better than many across the country. First, this place is very clean, and aisles are labeled very well. The employees on my visit were exceptionally polite. Prices here are reasonable in comparison to other grocers. Selection here is another story. I visit grocery stores all over the country in search of local/regional products. Though it offers Ohio-based products, Heinen's has more than its fair share of products produced my multi-national corporations. I'm totally not against that. I do, however, want to see more than a brand or two that isn't Vlasic, Oscar Meyer, or General Foods. read more

First time coming here, primarily came here to grab some of my usual go-to's. This store is pretty comprehensive when it comes to grocery selection, prices on everything are all pretty fair, great selection of hot food if you're trying to grab a small little bite. Great selection of alcohol products and they even have a little selection of non-alcoholic options. The store is a little busy, checking out could take some time here and there but overall, it's definitely a great spot to get your groceries from. Parking lot is usually half full so it should be an issue trying to find a parking spot. It's located in a strip mall but it's never that busy either I've never seen the parking lot past half full. read more

I go to Heinen's for mostly there fresh fish and the lady who works in the fish department. Who is there during the day every single time I go is unbelievably great. She is so knowledgeable takes her time. Tells you how to prepare. tells you what temperature it should be ,goes out of her way every single time I have been there for over two years. My favorite local grocery. Good selection of meats. bakery and deli as expected given its origins as a butcher shop in Cleveland. I like the shipping experience for a few reasons. It's a well laid out store that's clean and has wide aisles. Not a giant place arranged for no customer friendly reason. Second the staff has always been super friendly and helpful. Third, I can get a pint of beer (or wine if you so choose) and shop. A little perk for someone who isn't the world's most enthusiastic shopper Last, the prepared foods are really good and not ridiculously priced. Heinen's has earned a reputation for maintaining a high standard of service across all their stores that I've been to. The reason I feel compelled to write about this one is that this store has taken COVID-19 very seriously; with the employees wearing masks and often face shields, seen going above and beyond for sanitizing various surfaces regularly, social distancing reminders given appropriately and the store never too crowded...all this gives me a sense of safety while grocery shopping in these "unprecedented times" we are beset with. Highlights for me: produce section, bakery and specialty cheeses. Produce: Fresher than fresh fruits, all glossy and appetizing. I expect everything to be pricier here but the organic fruits (usually among the dirty dozen lost) are even pricier than one would expect. Bakery: I love the bakery section folks dearly. They have helped me with decisions on cakes and cookies and saved the day. I think their cakes are well made. Have heard good things about the cheese cake but haven't tried it. They have the usual wide selection of locally baked breads, rolls, buns etc. Cheese: As a person who craves different cheeses for different reasons, it gives me joy that the wide selection at Heinen's meets my needs consistently. Honorable mention: Being able to find Mitchell's ice cream is a true treat as another reviewer mentioned. This Heinens location is much smaller than most I've shopped at, I don't know where this store ranks in the building order of the Heinen's empire but the stores on the east side are superstores in comparison, but it's still a Heinens and you get all the amenities of any of the others. The stores are clean, the prepared food is exceptional, the meat is prime the staff is friendly, polite and helpful they will even load your groceries curbside. All of this comes at a price and its a choice or a preference. I feel Heinens is worth the extra cost it seems less crowded to me and more personal in regards to customer service. read more

I didn't even get a chance to shop here. Usually I go to Strongsville and never have problems. First needed was a riding cart, due to having NO HIP . They had one available. The cart guys would not let me use the cart. They said it was for in store use only. Okay , I asked if they could assist in walking over from where people pick up groceries and move the riding cart there. They wouldn't help either. They made snide remarks and just were standing there doing nothing. No wonder the store wasn't busy. With service like that I won't be back. Options are very limited so I had to go to another grocery store to get the rest of the items on my list and as I was leaving, not knowing I couldn't take my cart with me a worker physically grabbed me and said in a nasty tone "the cart does not leave the store!" Heinen's is simply the best grocery around, Middleburg Heights is lucky to have one and this one is great. The fresh salad department makes a delicious bow tie pasta selection and the meats and bakeries are always delicious. Their produce is often local, and always fresh. OK, Let's be honest: no one is going to Heinen's for fantastic prices. You go to Heinen's for quality, great service and a...better crowd. I do 85% of my grocery shopping here. Most of the meat in the meat dept. is certified humane with no hormones/antibiotics, so that's a huge plus for me. Will you pay a little more for it? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. For me, at least. They're one of the few grocery stores that sell grass fed organic beef (although it's imported) and truly organic free range chicken and eggs, so I won't shop anywhere else for meat. The selection of specialty products is nothing short of amazing. TONS of gluten free options. TONS of organic options. TONS of products you simply won't find at grocery store chains. And the produce department-- at least in season-- offers lots of local produce. The store's staff is awesome as well-- both at this location and the Strongsville location. Everyone says hello to you and offers to help you out. The checkout cashiers go the extra mile by putting your meat in special bags to avoid contamination, placing rubber bands around plastic containers to keep them closed and checking your eggs for breakage. They just go that extra mile and you can see it. It's the way grocery stores were before big box chains and Walmart took over. Another plus, in my opinion, is that Heinen's has less foot traffic than other stores. Around the first of the month when food stamps are issued, you won't catch me anywhere near a Giant Eagle or Walmart (ick anyway!) or the like. The crowds are just too much. At Heinen's, the crowds are much more manageable. I don't think they accept food stamps, so the first of the month is just another day at Heinen's. Oh, and unlike icky Walmart, you don't find things like half eaten packages of crackers on the shelves, dirty diapers in shopping carts, people cussing into their cellphones while on speakerphone in line, mysterious sticky junk all over the floors, etc. It's a nice store. The employees work hard to maintain it that way. It's a GOOD thing. You're paying more so that you don't have to put up with that kind of garbage. :) read more

Heinen's is great - if you're name is "Money Bags" and you have $200+ to spend on a cart full of groceries. With that said, you'll be getting a very upscale experience with more fresh, luxurious items must-haves than you could ask for. It all depends on what kind of shopper you are or how much money you have to spend. Me? I'm not ashamed to admit my slight cheapness when it comes to groceries. I can still buy fresh, healthy and local foods for less. You just have to be savvy to find them. Heinen's is an awesome grocery store that I generally can't afford if I'm stocking up the fridge. However, my favorite use for Heinen's is for lunch! Hello, best salad bar ever! Can we be friends? Oh, and please don't get me started on the homemade, hot soups. Some of them are just meals in themselves. Methinks the creamy Tomato Basil Bisque is god sent. *drool* They also have a bajillion different take-and-heat dishes that are made in house, fresh! It feels like you're eating Grandma's pierogies or Mom's lasagna. It puts a smile on my belly just thinking about it. If you're in the mood for something lighter, they offer wraps and sandwiches to-go as well. Oh, and don't forget the sushi! The perfect lunch option is just waiting for you at Heinen's, calling out your name. Can you hear it? I must admit that this is the only location that I've ever visited, so my opinion of Heinen's as a whole may be wrong. But, this pariticular one is money for lunch. And hey, it's not too harmful to the wallet if that's all your getting.. Conclusion: Love a luxury, upscale grocery shopping experience? Heinen's is the swanky store you crave. You cannot find better FRESH produce bakery or meats, fish. Staff is always helpful and pleasant. If I want two hamburger buns from the bakery they will break a pack with a smile and sell you two buns. Try that at GE. A clean store, wonderful service and always go out of there way to find for you what you need. If you shop the ads and plan your shopping accordingly. You will not "over spend". I always check the weekly add on line before I shop. The biggest plus its a local family business which carry's a lot of local products. That is Ohio. read more

I love that Heinen's is a family owned and local business in Northeast Ohio. They also carry many locally made products to support the economy further. I find that their selection is good and prices are reasonable. I am really stoked to have free parcel pick up, especially now the weather is turning. Whenever I have a special occasion, I make sure I shop at Heinen's. They have great bakery and deli trays. Not only do they have the best produce, their meats are high quality. Lastly, I really love that they are not a mega store. I hate wasting time going up and down aisles in the huge mega stores. I love my Heinen's grocery store. This location in Middleburg is smaller than some of the newer stores, but the service is always great! The produce section is easy to maneuver through and I find that most items are organized in a cohesive manner that makes getting in & out quickly possible. There's a nice fresh salad bar for those of you who like to stop on your lunch break and they offer fresh soups too. The prepared foods section is nice, again smaller than other larger stores, but I can't say I haven't found what I need ever. You'll find a good-sized craft beer selection and well-organized wine offerings. The lady (forgive me, I don't know her name) with the lovely grey hair is spectacular about giving wine selections. I've never not enjoyed a bottle she recommends. She's quite knowledgeable and you'd do well to ask for her input on selecting a new bottle of vino to try. Register lines move fairly quickly and they still bag your groceries at Heninen's, a lost art-form if you ask me. Heinen's will place your groceries in your car for you (carts don't leave the store, which saves them $ and provides you a nice service). I go out of my way to shop at Henine's the food is fresh and they provide old-fashioned, good grocery service which you don't most places any longer. Heinen's has been committed to sourcing and selling quality products (from Amish farms and locally sourced) long before other grocery stores and they have stayed true to their mission. They have an amazing selection of products (cheeses, meats, prepared foods, wine & beer) and their selections are amazing. They have low turnover in employees which speaks volumes about their culture. I dont shop big warehouse stores, I can find everything I need here and get in and out in 20 minutes. read more

I've been shopping at this Heinen's for years. I'm a huge fan of Heinen's because I can count on them for having the freshest produce, meats, seafood, & ect. Yes, things can really add up cost wise but it's a lot less expensive than going to Earth Fare! I always get salads from the salad bar because it's so fresh. The pasta salad & antipasto is really good. The soups are good but, need more seasoning sometimes...just add some salt & pepper & then you're good to go. I'm not the biggest fan of the prepared foods but, sometimes I can find a dish that's pretty tasty though. This location is on the smaller side but, I can appreciate that because I don't have to walk all over to search what I'm looking for when I'm in a hurry. You don't have to worry about waiting in long lines because the cashiers are fast & normally open up another lane if they see if there's a lot of people waiting to get checked out. read more

Very clean, organized, and simple. For example, I like mustard. There's no real difference between brands. Go to a big grocery store and there will be at least 5 different brands. Here, just one or two. A small differences like this makes shopping simple, saving you time. I like that. Employees are very friendly, extremely helpful, and seem to enjoy working there. So it was my first time coming to Heinen's in the area. I was super excited to be able to get organic food. Along with healthy produce. My experience was very unpleasant. It seems like the Employees were aggressive, not happy, every time I asked a question they were rude about it. As I was checking out I was speaking to Katelynn. She seemed polite at first, then rudely judged me for my race. Then asked me if I was using food stamps, or instant cart. Like I wasn't shopping there for myself. As if I was on welfare. As I proceeded to leave a lady asked me a question. If I was carrying my bags or getting a ticket. Being my first time there I didn't understand. Went to sanitize my hands, as I was trying to walk out. She Grabbed my cart and pushed me well aggressively placed her hand in my bosom. While shouting the question over. I am a big Heinen's fan but to stop selling the Sweet Baby Jesus beer because some church lady complained about it is pretty weak. With that being said few grocery store experiences are better than Heinen's except for the new Market District in Strongsville (if you are a grocery store enthusiast like me you must check it out). Heinen's leads the way in customer service. The employees actually lead you to the product you asked for (unless it is sweet baby jesus beer of course). I just had to respond to Leeann T's unpleasant review. We can all read between the lines. Ew icky poor people! Joke is on her though, because Heinens DOES take "food stamps" aka the Ohio Direction card, in all of its stores. Most of the people using the card at Heinens are her neighbors and friends as the urban poor don't have the resources to travel to Heinens locations. Hopefully other Yelpers are educated enough to know poverty can be found in the suburbs and not all poor people are slobs. That being said, like all Heinen's stores this one is fabulous. These stores are paradise for a foodie (Ohio City Pasta? Check . Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream? Check ). And the prices are not really much higher that Big Bird. Plus, they are a locally owned company headquartered in Cleveland, while Big Bird is a chain from Pittsburgh. Now that is truly icky. read more

Best chain supermarket in area. This store is a little smaller than Strongsville, but people are just as good. The prices could be better, but selection is very nice alot of items not found at others. The deli and bakery are top notch. I have been a Heinen's customer for more then 20 years in Middleburg Hts. and now in Strongsville, Ohio. I have also tried other stores. They are the BEST. The stores are Clean. Friendly, Helpful are their employees. The Bakery Department is wonderful...friendly, helpful, clean, patient, and knowledgeable and everyone SMILES and makes your day in this department. The produce is fantastic and fresh. The deli and fresh prepared foods are a time saver and delicious. They have some of the best meats in Ohio. Most of the items cost are the same as Giant Eagle. The floors and shelves are clean, no half eaten junk on their shelves left by THIEVES, "yes, you are a thief if you open and item and eat it and not pay for it!" The only negative thing I can find with these stores is that they do not double coupons. I love that you just drive up and they load your groceries into your car. That's a wonderful PLUS on cold, snowy, or rainy days. I give these two stores a 5 out of 5 rating! read more
