This review is only based on the on the chicken wings! I am a chicken wings connoisseur. They do not have an array of flavors. But they are truly top-tier. I got the non-spicy kind. The location is not the best. And the way it looks it's not fancy. But the chicken wings is definitely the best in Kansas City. Not even close! Definitely in the race for the best way in the country. came to this dive bar on june 15th pretty late at night. i wish i could remember the bartender's name because she was the best! i would describe the armosphere as cozy and casual so dont come here looking for something fancy. they have lots of tvs and tons of seating but you put your drink and food orders in at the bar. i ordered mine to-go this night and it took maybe 15/20 mins. i never have a problem with the wait because the food is always hot and fresh. definitely bar food done right. i got the spicy chicken sandwich and fries (same style as five guys fries) but i would also recommend the wings! their house sauce is my favorite and they make really good drinks. read more

Came here tonight 10/12/2025 to watch the Chiefs game. Alicia was tending bar and greeted with a smile and a drink. I met my date here and we had their wings sweet and spicy with uber sauce on the side with fries and a Greek salad. The salad was phenomenal for a dive bar. The fries were even better. Real potatoes were used not some frozen pile up. And the wings were way better than chain store wings. As I said we got them sweet and spicy with Uber on the side but next time I will get them uber. It's spicy but not so bad I can't take it. After dinner I switched to bourbon and Alicia poured my double neat well. Plenty of screens to watch the game and the patrons were also a lot of fun. Easy to chat with and light on her feet, she is so helpful and quick to serve and make merry! We played some dart games, which helped us pass time! For starters, this can be easy to miss on a GPS. They do have a good size parking lot in the back. Don't let the outside fool you as inside is a nice sports bar. We sat at the bar and the bartender warmly greeted us. Jen asked if we wanted to watch some baseball and changed the channel. We both got draft beers which were good and they had a good variety on tap. I told Jen that I had a garlic allergy and she called the owner to see what I could and could not have. She was super nice and took care of our drinks. My friend got the wings and he said they were delicious and I got a grilled cheese with a side salad and it was very good. I have been to Helen's a few times over the years and had a decent time. Stopped in last Friday because a friend I was with had never been and heard good things. The bar is next to a mechanic shop or something like that and therefore there's kinda an oily smell to the place and a little sewagey stinge, but once you are there awhile you don't notice it. We went about 12 am, and it was pretty slow. Mostly couples or people that kinda like looked like they hadn't slept in a few days. Sat at the bar, and it was a good few mins before we were greeted, but once the bartender talked to us, she was a joy!! Very friendly and helpful and made one of the best margaritas I have had in a long time even though it was on tap, she spiced it up for us. Had the Nashville chicken sandwich and tots. My friend and I split it, and we were both full afterward. This place is by no means classy, but if you're OK with dive bars and a few sketchy looking people, then go here. Got 2 burgers and wings to go. The sweet and spicy wings are delicious. Very unique flavor that is bold but not overly spicy. The burgers are your classic bar and grill taste. This Northland relic is outstanding. Service with and without quarantine is great and their food is stellar. This dive bar is a favorite of many area patrons. Today, I am sharing a #thankyouthursday note/review for the outstanding order we got last night. The new website is easy to navigate and adapted for to-go orders. There are so many options for add-ons to craft your perfect dish. A few minutes after submitting our order we got an emailed confirmation with the pickup timeline. So easy and helpful. On arrival, the venue has labeled parking spots for pickup orders. This made it easy to get in and get out. We ordered the Breakfast burger, All-American burger and sweet and spicy wings. Both burgers were piping-hot by the time we got the order home. This completely made my night! Fresh made fries and crispy wings were the perfect pairing. Each dish came with the appropriate sauces, plus silverware and napkins. Much appreciated! I am so thankful for the Helen's team and their efforts to serve our community during this pandemic. This was my first time here and I was taken back a little by how demanding the woman at the bar was when we first walked in. She demanded to see everyone's id and asked me a few questions about my Id.. The restaurant wad nearly empty inside so we had open choice to tables. We had the sweet chili wings and tots. This is a great place to eat late at night! I have the northlander burger and fries, and they were freshly made, so yummy! My friend had potato tots, and he said it was the best tots he ever had. The staff was busy yet still taking care of whatever we need. It seemed like there were only one people outside taking care of the order and the service, but I didn't feel I waited long to be served. I was staying in the area on a business trip, and was looking for a late night bite and found this little bar on yelp. It was pretty easy to find parking in the large lot behind the building, just turn in right before the building when heading west on 210. Since it was monday, and burgers are half price, and they are sorta known for their wings, I ordered a breakfast burger and the uber wings. Also added a Moscow mule. It was a lot of food and didn't come close to eating, but I tried. My bill was pretty cheap for all that too. The fries are hand cut, like other reviews state. The burger is pretty good, but too dry for my tastes. Patty was a little too cooked and they just give you a packet of mustard so that doesn't help much either. The wings were good. I believe they are deep fried then finished off over the grill for a few minutes. The bartender said the uber flavor is made with the same base as their original sweet and spicy, but I didn't see how the flavor was either sweet or spicy. They weren't nearly as spicy as she made them out to be. Overall, the food was good, but nothing to write home about for me. I like old buildings, so this was a cool bar and atmosphere for me. read more

This is my favorite dive-y bar in town when I want to also get a bite to eat. The burgers are excellent, the wings are also very good and they have a top 5 mozzarella stick. The last time I was there I got a Patty Melt and it was delicious. Helen's also has a good selection of Boulevard beers on tap year round. Combine that with the darts and shuffleboard and you have all you need for a good time to bro down with the girls or guys. I freaking love Helen's! The food is typically pretty great, most notably the wings! It's bar food but done well. Everyone is super friendly, especially the staff & they are always ready to give great recommendations for food or drinks. I love playing shuffleboard & listening to throwback tunes but my absolute fave is trivia night! It's so lively & hilarious. Good luck walking out without your sides hurting. It's a hidden gem & pretty much just reminds me of getting together with friends with no clean up on my part! YASSS! You wouldn't guess it by the exterior but I suppose that's why I love it. Local North KC bar and restaurant is chilling on the block with the chillest people here. Services was unexpectedly welcoming and friendly. Came here on a late Saturday night looking for good food at 12AM. Kitchens closes around 1:30AM here; it's perfect for my current schedule. Fast forward to my food. My 1st order is house special wings with Carolina hot sauce on the side. The wings are well cooked, tasty, and tender. I also had ranch and blue cheese on the side, but the Carolina Reeper hot sauce is off the hook. You must try it. It's tolerable and delicious in my opinion. My 2nd order is the mushroom and wiss burger. It's juicy and tender cooked in medium well. I didn't add onions, pickles, and lettuce that came with the burger, but I did enjoyed my burger with fries. It was satisfying. Close to the end of the night with Gin and Tonic in my system. I ended up dipping my burger into the hot sauce and it was still great. Got a little chatty with people around me as well. I had a great time here, and I'll be back when I need to find a good midnight dinner. read more

I've had a few drinks here over the years, but had never eaten here until tonight. It will not be the last time either, especially since the kitchen stays open till midnight. As a person that doesn't leave work until 9 or 10pm it's great to find a place that is serving this late. They also have a Monday special - $6.50 for burger and fries, what I had was normally $9.00... ...and what I did have was a very large BBQ fresh meat burger with pickles, onions, cheese, fried onion crisps and bbq sauce, on a bakery style roll. Fries were made in house also. Much better food that I ever expected out of this hole-in-the-wall, hard to navigate into dive bar. We do lots of things here including our fantasy draft, getting a beer after a rough day at the office, just to hang with other friends who work in area, and just enjoying a baseball game. Pretty darn good. Sauce makes the pizza and while I normally order light sauce because it can overpower a pie, but this sauce was great. Got there either too early or they were late putting the order in so I sat there for a good bit. The decor is a picture perfect example of a dive bar. Kinda gritty and dirty but in a quaint way not a nasty or disgusting way if that makes sense. What set's them apart are the people and their awesome burgers. Helen;s has been voted one of the top 5 burgers in KC according to the Kansas City Star and they have earned the title. They have a full menu of burgers, but I personally love the BBC Burger (Bacon & Bleu Cheese). They also have killer wings (try the Thai wings).
