How have I never been to Le Fou Frog??? It is a KC staple, with amazing Yelp reviews, I consider myself a foodie, I love to get out of JoCo and explore.....HOW HAVE I MISSED THIS??? It is delightful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Quirky and cute, amazing food and drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]My sister and I sat on the patio which is so cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We both had French Martinis which were soooo good. We shared the brie (dreaming of it since!) and the pomme frites.... amazing! Shared the pork medalions which were good but would probably try something different next time. The Lemon Cake ..... YIKES, so good! I already made reservations to take my mom back next month! This is going on my KC Faves list for sure!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Truly a unique experience, from the sort of intense vibrant red lighting to the singing performance by the servers and chalk board menus.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Le Fou Frog is its own thing and it brings people in en masse. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The seating is a bit snug and as a result a bit loud inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said it's still a fun experience, and I'd love to check out the outdoor seating sometime for perhaps a quieter dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was really great, all the dishes I ordered came in sauces that were so rich and full of depth. The scallops tasted as fresh as you can get in the Midwest, the mussels delicious as well. With a pretty decent size menu I'm excited to try this spot again soon

The pappardelle with truffle is possibly the best pasta dish I've ever had, its quality only rivaled by dishes I've had at Gordon Ramsay restaurants. The noodles were cooked absolutely perfectly and I loved the flavor. I'm still talking about it days later. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I realized when we left that we were leaving a different dimension, a cultivated experience of amazing food, expedient service, live music, all solidified by the red lighting that transported us to this lovely place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I enjoyed the live music (singing) that added to the classy atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We also loved the Bisque de Homard and the caesar salad with calamari. I wish we would have visited here sooner. I can't wait to return!

Hidden date night spot. We have heard about this restaurant a long time ago, but never had a chance to come yet, but our expectations were high. Spoiler: the night did not disappoint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior of the building is also very old, just like the exterior, however, it is nicely decorated and kept very clean (from what we could tell in the very dim lighting).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service however started off pretty poorly. Once seated, it took 10-15 minutes for our server to come by and introduce himself and take our drink order. It the took another 5-10min to get the drinks. As a reference, another couple sat down around the same time we arrived and had their drinks when we ordered ours and had their bread before he even came to take our dinner order. Understand that food will take time to prepare, but having to wait so long to even order our drinks was a surprisingly negative experience. With the exception of 1 other instance, he became more attentive later on that evening. He explained that he was new to serving, but was able to provide some good insights on the menu as he had worked at this restaurant for several years, just as a bartender. The food itself was extraordinarily delicious. We will probably try to come back, but that depends if service isn't that slow.

Location: Kansas City Ambiance: Perfect for a date. But please request a table by the wall. They are just more comfy and more private. Beautiful decor. This place has red dim lights vibe. Reminds me a little bit to Mouling Rouge in Paris. Food: the best ossobuco and scallops that I have had in a long time. The restaurant is more on the expensive side but the food quality justifies the costs. With the exception of the raw oyster which were not fresh nor alive. But I understand that those are difficult to get in the midwest. Just don't order Raw Oysters here. Service: excellent. I was very impressed with their hospitality. Yelp factor: Sorry Axois this restaurant plays on a higher league. Cafe de amis i still think that you have a better balance cost/benefit. Until proven otherwise I think we are dealing with the best frenxh restaurant of the city

July 14, Bastille Day! First round of celebrating happened at Le Fou Frog. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have the most magical song, dance and costume show every year. It's quite the spectacular![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is exquisite and your server is part of the show. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The red light and intimate setting makes you feel like you are in France.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Le Fou Frog is adorable, but I wasn't super impressed with the food itself. The French onion soup was lovely and probably the best part of the meal, but the escargot and duck entree were both underwhelming. The duck was a little tough and the rice it came with was undercooked. Dessert was solid - recommend the crème brûlée. There are a ton of specials, so I wouldn't mind going back to try something different.

We went to Le Fou Frog for a belated engagement dinner (our year started off with food poisoning from Florida BBQ). Le Fou Frog is enchanting, the space is a maximalists dream, and the service was impeccable from the host stand to all of the servers and staff. They had mocktails and some NA wine option which we appreciated. We ordered the scallops as an appetizer, the salmon and short ribs w mango chutney for mains, and the kings bread with caramel sauce and a lemon cheese cake (I think?) for dessert. Everything was delicious, and while pricey, certainly worth it. I believe our server was named Ava, and she was lovely. I am so glad we finally got to try Le Fou, we would like to go back during warmer weather when the patio is open. We made a reservation online a few weeks before, which worked out great as it got packed shortly after 7 pm.

preamble: Le Fou Frog is the only place we celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, and sometimes just that it's Tuesday night. For the past 25 years we've lived in other countries and other cities, but we always return to Le Fou Frog. It's our personal Best Restaurant in the World. service: We have never - ever - enjoyed anything but exceptional service. Every server, host, and busser continues a long tradition of very capable, extremely skilled, and perfectly balanced service. bar: I always begin with a traditional Manhattan and it's consistently great ($10.50 as of 08/2025). My wife usually has a mocktail and their Crano Frizzante is recommended ($5). We always rely on our waitstaff for wine selections and there are at least a dozen by-the-glass and all under $15. food: There are two menus, the available-anytime printed menu and the evening's specials on a chalkboard. Waitstaff do a fantastic job walking you through the chalkboard and sharing recommendations. For starters, I have enjoyed the pate, smoked trout, steak tartare, duck confit, and escargot. In fact, I have occasionally made a meal or two or three appetizers. For mains, my wife always orders the Steak au Poivre but substitutes in a filet ($64). It's an amazing plate of beautifully dressed salad, famously fantastic fries, and perfectly cooked steak. I almost always get the Dover Sole and it always shines ($64). Of note, all entrees come with awesome, perfectly matched sides. None of that a la carte side silliness you get in fancy steakhouses! For dessert, my wife always has the chocolate mousse ($12). The mousse is in a ganache shell and over a dense chocolate cake. Simply fantastic. details: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Reservations highly recommended. You can request to sit outside, in the bar, at the main dining room tables, or in main dining room booth. Each has their charms; we usually take a booth[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As other reviewers have noted, the red tinted lights frustrate would-be Yelp photographers but create a great space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have their own parking lot and some street parking.

Le Fou Frog is a unique dining experience for KC. It's a bit off the beaten path, romantic, charming, and just oozes with ambiance. I honestly can't believe it took me so long to make it here but I'm glad I did. We visited for my birthday in late December and I made a reservation well in advance, as for most good places around town the week between Christmas and New Years can be busy for family outings and restaurants fill up fast. This was the case for Le Fou Frog as it was packed when we arrived but they had our table ready. As we walked into the small space, it was like a transformation into a totally different world. The lighting was dim, with a bit of a red hue to it, and we were seated in a booth, which I really appreciated as it had curtains on the side and just felt a bit extra intimate. I ordered a French 75, ordered some mussels for the table, and took in the menu, settling on pork medallions, while my husband selected their special for the night. I will say a lot of folks talk about how they feel transported to France or Europe while they are here and I do get that vibe, having studied abroad in France many years ago. I don't think it's a 100% replica, but it does have that energy which feels special when you are so far away from a charming European bistro. The food I found to be above average though, not as good as some other five star places in town. I think it's worth it though for the overall experience - could the food be a bit better? I think so, but it's definitely delicious and well worth the visit. I think the mussels were my favorite part. I could easily see us coming next time, splitting a few appetizers, an entree, and a dessert, and some cocktails. It's a near perfect spot on a cold KC winter night and I'd encourage anyone to stop in and give them a try.

A fancy dinner for a surprise date to the Ballet. Reason # 223448 why I love my husband. I have been raving about this restaurant for years to him. "One day I will take you there. The food is fabulous". He decided he'd make my statement come true. And what do you know, it's was FABULOUS! Each course was delivered with beauty and pizazz. The type of melt in your mouth flavors you understand you will not be able to replicate at home. The service was attentive, informative and polite. The restaurant ambience is perfect for its eclectic French decor making you feel immediately special and warm. This has got to be one of my top favorite places in Kansas City and of all time!

I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this restaurant. 1. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience. WOW. No notes. The music, the lights, the decoration. It has personality. It has charm. It has a soul. I want to be its best friend.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 2. The food. Also WOW. the salt and pepper shaker stayed in the exact same spot the whole time. The food is made with love. You experience that with every bite. 3. The service. NO NOTES. Water was always filled. The servers were personable. The timing was impeccable. NO NOTES!!!! 4. The owner. Mrs. Barbara, I love you. She talked to us three times over dinner. She loves her customers...you can tell. I want to be her when I grow up. One of the best places I've ever eaten in every possible sense. When I die, spread my ashes here. Also, the wine list was amazing. Can you tell be my review?!

It's as if you've stepped out of KC and into an another country in an elegant and comfortable restaurant for the high tea dining experience. The tables were beautifully set and the music and lighting were conducive to talking and having an elevated high tea dining experience. The beverage options included and listed a variety of teas as well as coffee, and select cocktails for an additional charge. If all of that didn't excite you, the high tea food tower definitely will! I feel like most high teas have a ho hum selection of foods that you find just about anywhere and could be picked up at a local grocery or box store and are usually dry, hard, and even flavorless. Tailleur's tower had a delicious variety of tea sandwich and treats, all of which were made in house, and were flavorful with surprising complexity and very fresh. The service was impeccable from the moment we entered and were greeted until the moment we exited. For us, the parking lot and restaurant were a little difficult to find but definitely worth the effort. In fact, we were running late because of that and the host called to inquire and offered us help in getting to the location---thank God! He also reminded us to bring in our license plate number, as they pay for your parking, in the lot behind their building! They were prepping food for the evening meal service and it smelled amazing! My anniversary is next month and I definitely want to go back for dinner! I highly recommend Tailleur's Signature Tea and definitely go again myself!!!

It is a space designed for the modern flâneur, evoking a distinct consciousness that feels deeply tethered to the philosophical weight of Albert Camus. Here, amidst the heavy air of romance and nostalgia, one is reminded that in the depth of a Midwestern winter or the stifling heat of July, there lies within this room an invincible summer. The restaurant rejects the stark, barren architecture of the modern world, choosing instead a stunning, maximalist design that serves as an exquisite counterweight to the absurdities of daily existence. Every corner is crowded with intention, a deliberate and lavish tapestry of textures, mirrors, and curated artifacts that forces the diner to confront, and ultimately embrace, the sheer, intoxicating beauty of the present moment. The space unfolds in distinct, atmospheric chapters, offering an existential geography that mirrors the complexity of human desire. There is a quiet philosophy to where one chooses to sit: the choice between the grounding, intimate corners of the downstairs, the elevated, reflective perspective of the upstairs salon, or the sun-bleached freedom of the patio outside. Each realm possesses its own unique light and shadow, yet all are knit together by a profoundly knowledgeable staff. These guides do not merely serve; they navigate the menu like seasoned scholars of hospitality, anticipating needs with an effortless grace that feels less like transactional service and more like a shared pact of comfort against the outside world. Their expertise adds a layer of intellectual warmth to the room, ensuring that every encounter feels both deliberate and deeply welcoming. Having navigated the entirety of the menu over time, tracing its contours like a familiar piece of literature, I can affirm that the kitchen operates with a fierce, unwavering precision. Yet, amidst an array of exceptional plates, it is the steak frites that stands out as an absolute triumph of form and flavor. It is a dish stripped of pretense but elevated to high art--a perfectly seared, robust cut of meat resting alongside a golden mound of crisp, impeccably seasoned frites. In its simplicity and execution, it becomes a reminder that true luxury is found in the masterful refinement of the essential. Tailleur does not merely offer dinner; it offers an exquisite sanctuary of mood and taste, a poetic defiance of the ordinary that demands a slow, deliberate surrender to the night.

My Winner of Best Restaurant Week Meal 2026…read more I hadn't been back to Westport Cafe for a few years but now I'm kicking myself because I've been missing out! I remembered this restaurant being one of my favorites in years past . For some reason it fell off my radar. Now it's shining like a beacon of fine dining French inspired cuisine in Westport, an entertainment district known for a more casual environment. If you are looking for a special date night meal, somewhere for a girls night or just for a treat yourself dinner I would highly suggest Westport Cafe. Let's talk about this incredible restaurant week menu. First was the deconstructed crab cake (which is always on the menu) I would order this dish again and again. The way it was presented was a work of art. All the components were complex and it was fun to eat. It has such an essence of crab without the heaviness deep fried crab cakes usually have. Seafood is special here because the Trout Almondine was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It begs to be added to the menu. The sauce was buttery and rich with nutty notes, the citrus cut through the richness so, it didn't seem heavy. The fish was cooked impeccably, I literally had no notes. They know what they're doing in that kitchen! And you know if I can rave about green beans then it was a perfectly executed dish. They had such a nice snap and vibrant green color, they were delicious dipped in that sauce. I cannot wait to go back for another solo splurge meal. This was my second dinner of the evening so I didn't make it to dessert at the restaurant but, I did take it to-go. I'm not a big dessert girl so, it wasn't very memorable however, the rest of the meal is engrained in my mind. I remember back a few years ago I used to go crazy for the muscles here so, I can't wait to sample them again. Also, just a note any menu that has rabbit on it just completes me. It's so hard to find nowadays in Kansas City and it's one of my favorite meats to indulge in. The menu rotates seasonally (as one should) so, I need to rush back in soon before the rabbit leaves. I would suggest you rush in too, I do not think you'll regret it.

This is not a cheap place to dine, but if you want to treat yourself, do it here! Sometimes when we dine at a $$$ restaurant we leave thinking, "...that wasn't THAT much better than..." and feel like the food didn't justify the price. BUT this was not the case at Westport Cafe. Every thoughtfully prepared bite felt special and worth every cent.

It is an exquisite temporal illusion, a portal that bypasses the predictable geometry of a suburban shopping center and deposits you squarely into a perfectly stuck-in-time Parisian brasserie on the Left Bank. For one glorious evening, the midwestern plains recede, replaced by the seductive, buttery hum of a romanticized mid-century Paris. Eating here is not merely a matter of ingestion; it is an act of total surrender. I quite literally ate all the things, embarking on a sprawling, hedonistic pilgrimage through a menu that reads like a love letter to classical French gastronomy, executed with an absolute precision that would make the most demanding Parisian chef weep into their copper pans. The atmosphere possesses that elusive, crackling energy where history feels thick and the present feels beautifully paused. One cannot help but look at the warm lighting and the intimate arrangement of tables without evoking the ghosts of the great French literary pantheon. It is the sort of room where you half-expect Albert Camus to be sitting in the corner, nursing an espresso or a deep glass of red, brooding over the beautiful absurdity of existence while quietly marveling at the perfection of his steak frites. If Camus famously posited that one must imagine Sisyphus happy, I can assure you that Sisyphus would be ecstatic if his eternal boulder were instead a giant wheel of triple-cream Brie from this kitchen. There is a profound, comforting rebellion in the restaurant's commitment to timelessness. In a modern culinary landscape obsessed with the fleeting whim of the avant-garde, Café Provence stands as a magnificent monument to the enduring truth of heavy cream, rendered fat, and impeccable technique. Our culinary odyssey began with an assortment of appetizers that set a dizzying standard for the rest of the evening. The escargots arrived swimming in an emerald sea of garlic, parsley, and butter so rich it felt like an existential revelation. Each bite was a masterclass in texture and balance, demanding to be aggressively mopped up with shards of crusty baguettes. Next came a charcuterie board that looked like a still-life painting by a French master, featuring terrines and pates that struck a perfect chord between rustic charm and refined sophistication. The french onion soup was a dark, brooding, caramelized masterpiece, blanketed in a thick, blistered layer of Gruyere cheese that stretched on like a beautiful, unending prose sentence. It was the ultimate comfort food, elevated to an art form, offering a depth of flavor that felt like a warm embrace on a chilly night along the Seine. As the main courses arrived, the kitchen continued its relentless assault on our senses. The duck confit was a revelation of physics and flavor, boasting skin so astonishingly crisp it shattered like delicate glass at the touch of a fork, yielding to remarkably tender, deeply savory meat beneath. It was accompanied by a rich reduction that tied the entire plate together in a harmonious symphony of decadence. Not to be outdone, the trout almondine was a triumph of classic restraint, the delicate fish perfectly seared and bathed in a nutty, brown-butter sauce that sang with a bright splash of lemon. Every dish that crossed the table felt like a deliberate argument against the fast-paced negligence of the modern world. The kitchen does not cut corners; they honor the slow, deliberate rituals of classical cooking, and the result is a menu where every single option feels like a definitive, unimpeachable victory. Of course, no journey to the Left Bank would be complete without a grand finale from the pastry station. We indulged in a tarte tatin that was a masterclass in caramelization, the apples softened to a luxurious consistency and perched atop a beautifully flaky, buttery pastry crust. Beside it sat a creme brulee with a sugar crust so flawlessly torched it required a satisfying, sharp tap of the spoon to break through to the velvety, vanilla-flecked custard below. To experience this level of pastry work outside the borders of France feels like a beautiful, benevolent trick. Café Provence does not just replicate the flavors of a Parisian brasserie; it captures its very soul, proving that exceptional hospitality and transcendent cooking are entirely universal languages. It is a glowing, triumphant jewel of a restaurant, and I am already plotting my inevitable return to eat all the things all over again.

The food was good, but I expected more from this kind of establishment. She swears by the quiche, but ordered a chicken dish to her disappointment, as it was overcooked. The fish special was cooked beautifully and was accompanied by a fresh lemon sauce that paired nicely. And the apple dessert was incredible!

Here, the strict, timeless geometry of the Left Bank softens into a warm, sun-lit casual elegance, a neighborhood sanctuary where the hum of local politics replaces the brooding silence of the philosopher's corner. It is a space where the Democratic social scene is always in full, effervescent effect, a kinetic theater of ideas where local strategists, organizers, and policy wonks gather over marble tables to debate the future of the state while tearing apart freshly baked croissants. The air thickens not with existential dread, but with the electric, hopeful prose of a collective striving for progress, making it the definitive salon of the modern suburban landscape. The beauty of French Market lies in this seamless blending of civic passion and culinary delight. Every corner of the room feels curated with a benevolent affection, an atmosphere fueled entirely by a staff that can only be described as thoroughly fabulous. From the front counter to the busy kitchen, the team moves with a synchronized, smiling grace that makes every patron feel like the guest of honor at an intimate neighborhood gathering. They navigate the bustling room with a genuine warmth, pouring drinks and delivering plates with an infectious energy that elevates the casual setting into something truly extraordinary. It is a rare, beautiful thing to find a restaurant where the hospitality feels less like a service industry transaction and more like a generous act of civic kinship. On the plate, the market routinely touches the sublime, offering dishes that sing with a clear, poetic precision. The crab cakes are a revelation of coastal longing, packed with sweet, tender lump meat and boasting a delicate, golden sear that yields effortlessly to the fork. Nearby, the croque madame arrives as an opulent, dripping monument to breakfast-time indulgence, a decadent tower of savory ham and melted Gruyère crowned with a perfectly runny egg that coats each bite in a rich, golden velvet. To wash down these triumphs, one must order the French press coffee, a dark, aromatic brew that arrives in a slow, plunging ritual, delivering a bold, robust punch that commands your full attention and jump-starts any morning debate. While the kitchen operates at a remarkably high standard across the board, a discerning diner must exercise a small measure of tactical restraint when navigating the entrees. For all the brilliance on display, it is best to gently bypass the steak frites for the time being, steering clear of the dish until the kitchen source a more premium quality of beef to match their otherwise flawless standards. But this minor detour is easily forgotten the moment you glance toward the pastry case. The desserts here are an absolute, transcendent poetry of sugar and butter, offering delicate tarts and airy confections that are nothing short of sublime. French Market remains a triumphant, essential neighborhood jewel, where the food is exceptional, the people are magnificent, and the conversation never stops flowing.

The passion fruit coconut water drink (I forgot the name, something including oasis!) was also a refreshing treat in the summer heat. The Hannah fries have stayed in my mind ever since we ordered them, the blend of seasoning is very delicious. Very friendly and attentive staff as well.

As a Vietnam veteran, I'm very aware of my surroundings, and something about today's experience felt off. I arrived during happy hour and ordered a drink, assuming it was part of the happy hour menu. I later realized it wasn't, and I left feeling a bit taken advantage of. I understand that a happy hour menu is provided, but I didn't realize I needed to specifically ask which items were included. No one behind the bar explained the pricing differences or mentioned that what I ordered was not part of the happy hour offerings. Clear communication would have prevented the misunderstanding. When I received my bill, it was about twenty dollars more than I expected. I asked about the charges calmly and respectfully -- I never raised my voice, even though it was difficult in the moment. The bartender simply told me, "That's what you ordered." She's a very sweet woman, but she didn't seem to realize I was upset, and shortly after that she stepped away. That's when I spoke with Hannah. Hannah is truly exceptional. She immediately understood my disappointment and asked if I wanted her to remove the extra charges. I declined, because my frustration wasn't about the money -- it was about the lack of attentiveness and the absence of honest, proactive communication I expect from a respectable establishment. Hannah handled the situation with grace, kindness, and professionalism. She has a personality that stands out the moment you meet her, and she made it hard for me to stay upset. My real concern was the overall experience. During the hour and a half I was there, the bar was never busy -- never more than two people -- until a woman who works at Starbucks arrived with her boyfriend. It was clear the bartender knew them, and the level of attentiveness shifted noticeably. While I understand taking care of friends, it made me feel overlooked as a paying customer. I spent nearly a hundred dollars during my visit, yet I received almost no conversation or engagement from the staff. I'm not a young man, and I'm certainly not in the same age group as the bartender's friends, but that shouldn't affect the level of service. I own a business in Brookside and often recommend local restaurants to my clients. Today's experience left me feeling neglected and uncomfortable, and it has made me reconsider those recommendations. In the end, I wasn't upset about the cost -- I was disappointed by the lack of communication and the absence of effort to make guests feel acknowledged and comfortable. Hannah was the bright spot in an otherwise discouraging visit.
