Just a heads up, if you're looking for lighter, more delicate reds, this probably isn't your tasting room. The focus here is definitely on bigger, richer wines, although they also make a fantastic Chardonnay. The property is beautiful, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and overall it was a really enjoyable tasting experience. I'm not sure I'll be joining the wine club, but I'd definitely come back for another visit. My only minor suggestion is that some of the younger Syrahs would benefit from a bit more air before being poured. The current releases are still quite young, and when a bottle has only been open for a few minutes, the wines can come across as more closed than they really are. Given a little time in the glass, they become much more expressive and show a lot more of their character. That small critique aside, the wines are excellent and this is definitely one of the better Rhône focused tasting experiences in the area.

We were told we could taste at Epiphany, Fess Parker, or Fess Parker funk zone in Santa Barbara. Our next visit was in April to their Santa Barbara funk zone location. It was a windy day so we had to sit indoors. It was semi busy but we were able to get seats at the bar. That's where it started to go downhill. The gentleman at the bar was quite arrogant and basically told us we could only taste a select few wines, unless we wanted to 'upgrade' and pay an additional fee. Never have I had to 'Upgrade' a tasting at a winery I was a member of. It did not give us a very welcoming feeling. We ended up buying a few bottles, as did our friends, but the experience did not make us want to return. Our next visit in June was again to Epiphany. We arrived at about 4:10 and the young man at the counter said he could not serve us a flight as it was too late. I mentioned that we were members and he did give us 2 pours and gave us our shipment. Again, a very unwelcoming feeling overall. We did not feel like members typically feel. Not sure if we will bother to go to Fess Parker or just cancel our membership.

She'd set me up in a cozy corner banquette in their gorgeous room of English garden greens, original art and gilded chandeliers. I had the Santa Rita sparkling wine tasting ($35 for four generous tasting pours, all made with their own local grapes and in the traditional Champenoise method). I added a box of Rustic olive oil & sea salt crackers ($6) and some roasted (crunchy) edamame ($2). Nicole let me know they are fine with bringing in other food, and the Gandolfo deli and market is right across the street. We started with the 2021 Blanc de Blancs, which was crisp, dry, and very sippy! The 2020 sparkling Cuvée was my favorite, silky and a little bready. The 2021 Brut Rose was a fun, fruit-forward, brunchy sipper, and the 2019 Blanc de Noir had some fabulous funk to it. As Nicole called it, "grippy." I lingered for about 75 minutes, took my time with the tasting and enjoyed my window seat for this solo visit on a quiet Thursday afternoon. They also have a Santa Rita stills tasting ($30, currently their 2022 Estate Chardonnay, 2025 Rose of Pinot Noir, 2022 SRH Pinot Noir, and 2021 Estate Pinot Noir) as well as a $25 Zero-proof elixirs tasting. We bought six full bottles to take on our getaway to Cambria. The location in Lompoc is amazing with a huge warehouse, full kitchen, and comfortable tasting room. It is in an industrial park, but it is in a non-crowded area with lots of parking which is a huge plus. Yes, it is an hour out of the way from the 101, but it is a beautiful drive both ways and so worth the stop! Full disclosure - Brian and I attended junior and senior high together. But, honestly, he makes fabulous wine and has a state-of-the-art facility. Brian and Kimberly provide top-notch customer service and hospitality. I would recommend all of my friends stop for a fantastic wine-tasting experience. They have spoiled us for any other wine tasting!

Miles is a boring drip and he doesn't really know as much as he thinks he does about wine. But I do love Pinot, and Loring makes two of my favorites from the Clos Pepe vineyard and from Garys'. Luckily, on a recent visit to their new location in Buellton, they had both the 2016 versions of these wines in half bottles, full bottle for Clos Pepe. Ive been an acquaintance of Brian's for 20+ years as he first sold his wines to a wine group I was part of back in the late 90's, early 2000's. Now I see him occasionally at a charity event I've gone to previously. I admire how he pursued his dream and became a Santa Barbara rock star. They do more than just Pinot, and this visit is also more than just about wine with lovely locally baked shortbread cookies to pair. You wouldn't think it, but it's a great choice. The new location is next to Industrial Eats restaurant and makes for a great combo visit of wine and food and cookies. I prefer the two pinots above, you might find other pinots, or the blends or the whites more to your liking. All at fabulous price points too. Highly recommended :-)
