We stopped at Kaena at the Ranch after a visiting Ostrichland and we're so glad we did! I'm so happy we saw their name and logo while we were driving into Solvang because we immediately knew there was some kind of tie to Hawaii! We truly felt at home just like Ohana (family)! Sally took wonderful care of us with our tasting while she told us more about Kaena's history. Although the weather wasn't cooperating with our vacation schedule very well we still managed to get out to enjoy all that we could. The cold and wet rain we maneuvered around seemed to bring a lot of people indoors for drier activities so it was so nice to see all the traffic many of the places we visited buzzing! Kaena had a steady stream of people coming and going during our visit so we were very happy to see them doing well! Their tasting room was welcoming and very spacious! I don't remember seeing that there were any food items for sale, but we had just eaten lunch so we weren't looking for anything to eat... There's lots of parking out front. There are a few cats roaming around the property in case you have allergies but they didn't come near us. We loved our visit with Kaena at the Ranch and hope you will love it just as much as we did! This was an impromptu stop on our mini road trip to Solvang. We saw this and stopped to enjoy a wine tasting, since we were too early to check into our hotel in Solvang. Kaena at the Ranch was a great choice. It has a lovely seating area outside with trees, comfy chairs, gorgeous gardens, firepits for cool evenings, and friendly kitty cats. Not to mention, the friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had one special red tasting and one special white wine tasting. They were delicious and had lots of variability. I enjoyed the 2022 Grenache Clone 362 the best. Come on in and join us!! Hurry, before we leave! Happy 64th birthday to my babe
Made a quickish stop back from the Ostrich farm. Our server was so kind, patient and knowledgeable. Whoever came up with the saying to describe the wines should write jokes for living, each time she described the wines she end it with a great/funny Hawaiian themed analogy. They only had small charcuterie boards but that was more than enough to fill us both up. The owner was kind and took his time to explain his story of his grandma (tutu), I appreciate sharing your family history, it really did feel like we were hanging out in someone's backyard a real Ohana vibe IMO. Tastings are 25 for white, red or mixed or if you want to be a baller 35 for the premium. Pro tip, if you're really nice and ask questions sometimes they're pour you something off menu, in addition also don't forget to tip your servers! Look forward to coming back during our annual trip. I really enjoyed spending time at this winery. Kaena is the owner's Hawaiian nickname (by his great-grandma), and you can see photos of his family inside the tasting room. It's located on a beautiful property between Solvang and Buellton. There are plenty of picnic tables outside and seating indoors as well. They are picnic friendly so you can enjoy your tasting/wines with your own food (I enjoyed my treats from the Solvang bakeries!). There are also snacks you can purchase in the tasting room, and charcuterie boards if they still have them available. I purchased the standard tasting flight ($25.25) which during my visit included the Grenache Rose, Hapa Blanc, Tierra Alta Grenache, Tierra Alta Reserve Grenache, and the Kuli'ou'ou Cuvée. They specialize in Grenache but I really enjoyed the Grenache Rose and Hapa Blanc. You are welcome to sit anywhere you want, inside or out, and the staff will come and explain the wine they are pouring. They take their time between pours, there is no rush, so we were able to just sit and enjoy our time at the Ranch. Island time bruh... The resident cat liked us so much, she brought us a gopher. One of the staff members came with a box to move the cat's gift to another location. Apparently they also have church at this location on Sundays!
This winery is all about the good vibes! We had a very friendly, cool and informative server. They play great beach music. We didn't all white flight tasting menu. I like that they offer an all white tasting menu. Most other places heavily focus on reds. This is a gorgeous horse property. It used to be Shoestring winery about 5 years ago.
A stop at Kaena for their two for one tasting deal for staying at a hotel in the area. We got there just as it opened and Bridget was the perfect host. She was knowledgeable about the wines and the history of the owner and his Hawaiian heritage. The wines were great and it was a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy them. My favorite was the Grenache reserve.
What a lovely little winery, we had the White tasting flight, and I was very impressed with the variety and complexity of some of the wines. Staff was welcoming and lovely, and the two wine kitties kept us company for most of the time.
Stopped by for a spur of the moment wine tasting and it was a superb experience. We chose the white wines only flight for $25 and we enjoyed it so much. My favorite was the Grenache Rose which is saying a lot because I didn't even think that I liked Rose. We sat outside under the trees at a picnic table and it was absolutely perfect and so lovely. The ladies serving us were very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines and the wine names, it was fun learning facts from them. I can't wait to go back and try more wines and I highly recommend this place.

I first discovered Kaena wine last night while having dinner at Industrial Eats in Buellton. I tried the Grenache & Syrah & hubby had the Bordeaux to pair with our meals. Both of us loved the flavor profile so we stopped by their tasting room today. The location was situated on a beautiful ranch in Solvang. Since today was a Monday, the place was empty with only 2 other tables occupied. We walked right in & got seated right away out in the patio. Ambiance was very nice outside overlooking the ranch with plenty of tables & seats. They also had seatings inside as well. Our server Jin was bubbly & friendly the entire time. She was detailed in explaining about each wine & very patient between each pouring to wait until we were ready for the next pour. I had the standard flight & hubby had the premium flight. Both flights from beginning to end were superb! It's not common to find a tasting room that serves both whites & reds to be solid. Sometimes the whites can be too acidic & reds to be jammy or too fruit forward but this wasn't the case at all. My favorite's were the rose & Ronin although every one of them was thumbs up. I highly recommend this place for both beginners & wine connoisseurs alike. You won't be disappointed.
Cannot recommend this winery enough if you are in the area! This is the cutest little hawaiian winery. My friend and I were obsessed with the decoration here - fairly lights all over the trees, a ton of picnic tables, and just overall picturesque. The owner was so sweet and hilarious and even came to check on us outside. The wine was delicious and strong!
We stopped at Kaena Winery just outside of Solvang after coming down from Paso Robles, planning to do a little shopping before heading back to San Diego. Honestly, I assumed it would be another touristy winery designed to catch people passing through Solvang. I couldn't have been more wrong. The premium red flight caught my eye, and from the very first pour it was clear this place is serious about wine. Every single wine was excellent. The Grenache completely surprised me--full-bodied with a long, smooth finish, and nothing like the lighter, fruit-forward Grenaches I'm used to. As the tasting progressed, the reds just kept getting bolder, smoother, and more impressive. Then came the standout: the 2021 Reserve Petit Verdot (100%). Petit Verdot is my favorite varietal, and I'll admit I was skeptical--how good could it really be out here? Turns out, it was the best Petit Verdot I've ever had. Aged three years in oak, it had an incredible nose, a rich full body, soft silky tannins, and a long, velvety finish. Absolute paradise in a glass. I had zero intention of joining another wine club, but one look at our faces and my wife immediately knew--it was inevitable. Kaena completely exceeded our expectations and turned a quick stop into a highlight of the trip. This is not a tourist trap; it's a must-visit for anyone who truly loves bold, well-crafted red wines. This winery was one of the stops during our Wine Bus Tour. A Hawaiian winery that is family owned. The property it sits on is quite large. Tasted several of their wines and they were really good. Everyone that worked there was really nice. Listening as they shared the history of Kaena reflected the pride they have in bringing that culture to the mainland. They have merchandise for sale if you would like a souvenir ( wine glasses, bottle aerators, t-shirts, hats, candles and so much more.

Kaena's new space since they closed their downtown Los Olivas tasting room. Cute little ranch looking tasting room. Area is spacious and clean. The wines are nice. There are tables to enjoy your wines inside and outside. There are tons of places for picture taking. The wine staff are super friendly and welcoming! read more
Kaena at the Ranch is a beautiful winery located in Solvang. If you want Hawaiian vibes, friendly hospitality and some great tasting wines then come here! The owner is a Hawaiian native who's been crowned "The King of Grenache" and I can see why! I enjoyed the standard tasting flight, which included Grenache Rosé, Hapa Blanc, Tierra Alta Grenache, Ronin and Hapa Red. I can honestly say every single one was good. Normally there's at least one wine that I don't care for, but this tasting flight was probably the best I've tried. The location of this winery is on a ranch. It's beautiful, spacious and located next to a horse ranch. What a bonus! I wandered over to the horses and they let me pet them. I absolutely adored them. Chiquita the cat is also onsite ready to greet you at the parking lot. They offer a small batch of snacks, beverages and charcuterie. You are also allowed to bring your own food. Customer service here is outstanding! Unfortunately, I can't remember the lady that tended to us on our visit, but she was friendly and helpful at explaining each pour. Wine tasting! Yes please! We first arrived and we were greeted by one of the ranch cats and later learned her name is Chickquetta. Ka 'Ena is a delicious little place that has this absolute beauty and peace to it. Warm and welcoming just like its sommelier Andrea. We didn't feel rushed and felt welcome to sit, sip, and enjoy not only the wine but the absolute splendor of trees and the expanse of the property. Check out Kaena, they offer wine tasting, and a wine club (as of this posting) if you are interested. Pepe (the orange tabby) and Chiquetta wonder around and chill out. They won't demand attention but won't shy away from a gentle hello and scratch. Andrea will make you feel welcome and give you the best rundown on the wines that Kaena offers. I stumbled upon Kaena Wines via shout out to Industrial Eats restaurant who sold me on Kaena's Grenache red wine. It was delicious and paired wonderfully with my pizza from their restaurant. As for my experience today, I came for their yoga and wine event which was positively Zen for pre-getting my wine on! I enjoyed 3 tastings from a lovely lady named Jin who poured my wines tonight. She started me out with a Rose, then a white followed by the Grenache. 5 stars on all of them!! What a beautiful location and excellent wine for happy hour on a Friday!! I also got to meet and chat with Sally the owner who was so kind and friendly. I'll definitely be back with friends and look forward to bringing a picnic to enjoy with the wines! Aloha * read more

Easy access from the main road that runs through Solvang. Lots of space outside and inside. Went on a cold, rainy afternoon weekday, so it wasn't too crowded at all. Hawaii-themed place as the owner I was told is an islander. So he took some of that aloha and put it into this nice place. Wine pourer was gracious and attentive. Ordered the premium flight of reds. I thought the merlot was really good and the Verdot was worth a bottle to take home. The other reds were decent. Nice, hassle-free, non pretentious spot. Definitely would recommend. read more

What a fun place to taste wine! It's so beautiful, with trees that provide shade, and horses that you can see from the outside seating. There is plenty of parking a short distance to the winery entrance. The standard tasting was great, and 4/5 wines were enjoyed. The whites tasting was alright, 3/5 enjoyed. The premium tasting was delicious! 5/5 on the drinks in the premium red tasting. My favorite out of them all was the 2018 Grenache Clone 362. It was the spicy vanilla molasses on the palate for me! Located right next to the ostrich farm which was fun to do right before wine tasting! read more

My husband and I stopped by after we visited Ostrichland (only 3 minutes away from Kaena). It's such a nice, relaxing spot. We sat under the shaded trees, hung out with some cats, and enjoyed a flight of wine. I loved their rose. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable - they really made you feel like ohana. Hope to visit again if we ever come back to Solvang! read more

Right off the highway in a gorgeous ranch in Buellton, Kaena is a hidden gem. We arrived when they opened at 11 AM and Brigitte greeted us. Kaena is Hawaiian for praised, or proud, and you can see her pride in both the owner's Hawaiian heritage and the wine. Both the inside and outside are beautifully decorated. I loved learning about the family's history through Brigitte and the pictures on the walls and the beautiful labels. They have three different flights to choose from - we went with all whites which also included a delicious, crisp rosé to start the day. The Sauvignon Blanc is also very refreshing. It was so relaxing to sit under the beautiful trees covered in globe lights and listen to the birds chirping. We're already looking forward to coming back on a Saturday for live music and a food truck. They also offer small bites regularly and there are heaters on the patio for chillier days. read more
First time visiting Kaena and already in love. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is amazinggggggg. My husband and I loved it so much we got a few to take home. We also got a bottle of the Rose and enjoyed it a lot. We take day-trips to Solvang very often and this winery just got added to our favorites. Great customer service Great wines Great property, spacious and beautiful They have food trucks every weekend so you can even get food while you enjoy the wine and the property. The Saturday we went on they had Armenian BBQ .... It was delicious. Smelled and tasted heavenly. Perfect pairing with the Cabernet Sauvignon. Overall a wonderful place to stop by. read more

Let me preface this review with the fact that I'm not a wine drinker, but I appreciated the beauty of this boutique winery nonetheless. This is Kaena's second location and it can be found off E. Highway 246 on the drive into Solvang. It features a large barn setting, a spacious outdoor patio and an indoor tasting room. Kaena's founder is part Hawaiian and was raised on the Oahu shores, so you can taste the Hawaiian influence in the handcrafted wines he produces. From their website, "Kaena produces...Rhône and other varietals with an emphasis on Grenache." The tasting room offers flight options, bottle purchases and wine club membership. Staff seemed very knowledgeable about the history of the owner's heritage, how the winery came to be as well as intricate details of each varietal. I'd recommend a visit if you're a wine enthusiast, but it's a good option even if you're not! read more

Walked right in and were able to find a spot! Our server was very kind and made our first visit a pleasant experience! The outside was beautiful and the wine was yummy :) only con: there is 1 unisex restroom so don't wait till the last minute because there will be a line! haha read more

Nice place to relax and enjoy the scenery while wine tasting. They have good wines and beautiful views of the area with horses and trees for shade. I loved the kitties who also greet you. The service was great, and Gabriel was super friendly and helpful. read more
Wow; really amazing wines in a beautiful setting. Love the outdoor patio, but it was chilly, in the 50s today, so sat inside in a comfy chair by a cozy electric fireplace. We got the premium red flight for $35, and every wine was excellent, but our favorites were the petit Verdot, cab franc, and merlot. Love the friendly winery cats, and our server, Andi was awesome. Well I hate to write this review because it's been such a lovely day thus far exploring Solvang and the surrounding vineyards this lovely but hot Saturday. Kaena was our second stop after Vega Vineyards and Farm and to be honest we should have stayed at Vega. We pulled in to this lovely vineyard around 2:45pm on a Saturday. Kaena was not busy, maybe 3 tables tops, and 3 servers on staff. There was live music which was lovely. The nice things stopped there. We ordered at the counter, everything seemed okay. Was told we could sit anywhere. We had already had a few glasses of wine and decided to split a tasting menu so we could narrow down what glass we wanted to enjoy, since the live performer was good we opted for a table across from him. From start to finish our shared tasting took almost an hour! She would bring one taste and it would be almost 15 minutes before the next, I had to go inside several times to flag her down while she was standing with her back to the outside. My gripe here is this- I feel like she assumed we were being cheap and didn't seem to care that we were there, and that we were only there for one tasting. Despite telling her we wanted to do a tasting so we could determine what we liked and get a glass. But because it took so long, we decided to leave. It's unfortunate because the wines were absolutely great, but felt that the service was very lackluster and neglectful. My husband and I are both wine lovers and often buy several bottles and I would have loved to buy more, or at best enjoy a glass on the garden property with the resident cats- but felt no one seemed to care that we were there- besides the musician performing. She was either too busy chatting with tables who had bottles or chatting with the staff with her back turned to customers to consider that perhaps- you have guests. I'm all for a lax environment but an hour for a tasting menu where I have to find you 20 minutes later- is not cool. Maybe seek elsewhere for a nice afternoon out! read more

Just leaving Kaena, it was a beautiful and relaxing stop, after Ostrich Land, with a great wine tasting experience on a Friday. We decided to do the standard tasting which included a combination of white and red. We left with a bottle of the reserve Grenache Tierra Alta. We had the kiddos with us and staff brought out the jumbo connect four set and let the kids feed the goats, including six adorable babies, super cute. Plus, the kids loved Pepe the cat :). Special thanks to Jin, excellent service and beautiful grounds. Like the sign says, come on in, they' 're pretty awesome. read more
