Hellbender Bed and Beverage is such a charming find in Blowing Rock! The space is cozy and cute, with décor that feels polished and welcoming. Don't let the quaint outside fool you -- the menu is more upscale than expected. We had the chicken pot pie and smash burger, both delicious, and the cocktails were good-- my partner had the jalapeño margarita and loved it. Service was friendly, and the whole vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy. A great spot to add to your list if you're in town.

Lovely staff. Charming interior with slanted floors and a huge outdoor patio. I loved the adult grilled cheese-a veggie filled healthy version. Also the chicken chopped salad was huge and tasty. I would definitely come back here for a meal!

Felix the Cat was bartending, and made for a great conversationalist! The burger was delicious and not ordinary by any means. The atmosphere is historic, quaint and cozy!! I highly recommend stopping at Hellbender on your trip to Blowing Rock.

We escaped to blowing rock for a Sunday-Monday adventure. It was the whole family: me, the husband, baby , and dog. Yelp steered me to the Hellbender with the positive reviews! We stayed in room 6 as it was dog friendly. It's located upstairs at the end of the hall. The room in itself was great: large comfortable bed, up to date, and nice finishes like Keurig coffee. The bathroom had a nice tall shower and skylights. We all slept well which is not an easy task for this group. The room was dark and quiet at night time which was a major win! There is a parking lot with room for about 6 cars.. a big plus in this crowded town. We really enjoyed our complimentary smoothies- served after 8am. I made the reservation knowing biscuits weren't served on Monday.. bummed about that.. but will happily come back in another day to try. Great location. On a quiet side street about 3 minutes walking time to Main Street. Really friendly staff. Easy check in and check out- we were able to check in early which was a huge help! The only thing I could think of to improve our trip would be to have windows in the room that open. My husband and I tried to open windows to get fresh air after returning from a wet hike. We could not open the windows so the room did smell a little damp after some time.

This restaurant is very convenient to downtown Blowing Rock but has the advantage of not being right in the midst of all the crowd. The staff were friendly and dogs are welcome outside. The food was not very good, but also delivered promptly. We had the duck blt, chicken sandwich, and the trout. Everything was very good. I did think the breading on the chicken seemed a bit to course for the tenderness of the chicken. We did enjoy this restaurant and will be returning.

Popped in for a quick lunch a few weeks ago. (Pre hurricane Helene, so I hope they are back up and running!) We were seated immediately. Perfect outdoor patio with some sun and shade. I have always loved that this town goes big on landscaping and flowers! It's just a beautiful place to be. The vibe and service were great. They let us have our dog on the patio too, I had the fried chicken salad; a nice large salad with blue cheese, bacon, and edamame. Pretty tasty with fresh ingredients, but I did think it needed a more flavorful dressing and more cheese. Chicken was nice and crunchy. Husben shared some of his burger and to me it was a pretty good, your average burger and fries. He was unimpressed, but I think we will come back and try some other items like the fried brussel sprouts and chicken sandwich ! This is also a great place to just pop in for a drink.

I've been staring here since I was a kid + this new concept is great! I started coming when it was Crippens, then New Public House and most recently when it changed to Hellbender. This B&B caters towards outdoor enthusiasts that are visiting the beautiful mountains for a getaway! The rooms are updated and modern but with a touch of a "camping" feel but in doors. Beds are super comfortable and the house stays pretty quiet throughout the evening. For breakfast, you can choose from their list of delicious smoothies which were perfect to have right before our hike! I got the berry assortment and it's delicious. For lunch, we came back and both got burgers and sweet potatoes fries and we ate every last bite. Overall, this is a great place to stay both for the ambiance, price, and comfort!

Best chicken egg biscuit sandwich in all of the USA. It's amazing. I've been talking this place up for the last year and finally took my bf. He now confirms that this is the best in the country

My husband and I visited Hellbender for a late lunch while visiting Blowing Rock. We opted for their Thursday "Locals" menu, including a sandwich, a side, and either a glass of wine or beer for $12 (fries are $1 extra). Having visited the prior New Public House many times before, we were curious as to what might have changed under this new ownership/name. The interior was exactly as we remembered. The hostess told us to find a seat, and to order and pay via QR code on each table. As we were attempting to get a good signal to place the order (they use Toast Tab), she came in and said they were having issues with the service, and took the order for us. We remembered having difficulty getting any internet service in this building before, and were glad she was so accommodating. I got the smash burger with chips, and my husband got the Carolina burger with fries. Both burgers were amazing. I haven't had a burger on a bun in over a year due to watching my carbs, and this one was worth the wait, and MOST definitely carb-worthy. Both burgers had double patties, with mine having cheese and a delicious sauce, and his having chili in place of cheese. The brioche buns were soft, and perfect - not too filling. The chips were served with a tasty dipping sauce. It might have been ranch or something else. The fries came with ketchup. We dipped both the chips and fries in the sauce, it was that good! Both our server and the chef came to check on us while we were there. We were very pleased with everything, and will definitely return!

We found parking on a side street near Blowing Rock Brewing, so decided to enjoy a drink and get some lunch. We were seated quickly, near a heater, which was nice to help us warm up after being on the mountain. A waiter came by with menus to take our order. We asked for some suggestions, but he was a little less than enthused to offer advise. They had a good variety of beers, so my wife and I each got one, and shared them. We got the Pina Colada Kolsch and the Cloud Rise Hazy Ipa. Both were tasty, the Pina Colada Kolsch had a much stronger pineapple flavor than I expected, but in a good way. For food we started with the white cheddar poblano, which I expected to be more of a liquid queso for some reason. It was instead for of a soft, spread, which was really good, and paired well with the chips. And then we split the Turkey Reuben, which I figured would be made with deli meat, instead, it was warm, cooked chunks of turkey, really great flavor, and hit the spot for us. The sides with the sandwiches were a bit lacking, only offering hot chips, and green beans....I've never gotten the whole hot chip craze, but green beans just seamed like too odd of a side option for a sandwich It was a good visit, and a good meal, to get us back on our feet. Overall, a nice space, with bar seating, a back room, a back and front patio, plenty of space to hang out, relax and enjoy their beer. Food and drink were both good and worth a visit if you're in the area.

We weren't expecting such a high level experience when we first booked a stay at this newly finished hotel. Classy cocktails, beers, plenty of wine variety, you name it. Went with the Old Smokey as a starter. An old fashioned kicked up a notch. The house smoked maple syrup and charred orange peal knocked his cocktail out of the park. I could smell that smoky flavor from the other end of the bar as it was being made. Bartender was super friendly and had some great mixology skills. We opted for apps all evening, but can't wait to come back and try some more of the menu. The homemade bread is a must. These puppies come out hot and steaming, with this amazing bacon butter to lather them in...outstanding! Our server also recommended the mushroom pate. Mushroom pate you say?! Yes, yes I do. One of the best pate's we've had in a long time. Super flavorful, creamy and smooth. And the homemade chips sticking out of it were the bomb! Then the goat cheese fritters...I had to battle my wife for these flavor bombs. This place is outstanding and not many people know about it...yet. It's definitely a bit of a drive from Charlotte, but well worth it if you're exploring the mountain towns and scenery in the area. The restaurant has a really cool upscale mountain vibe that feels relaxed and comfortable without being stuffy. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and the whole place just had that quality mountain town feel to it. My wife and I both ordered trout, which felt like the right move here. I had the almond crusted trout with basil potatoes and garlicky grits, and it was excellent. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. The garlicky grits were especially good. My wife ordered the smoked trout, and let's just say they do not mess around with the smoke flavor here. It was seriously smoky. A couple hours later she was still burping little smoke rings on the drive home If you love strong smoky flavor, you'll probably love it. They also had a really solid craft beer selection that fit the mountain atmosphere perfectly. Overall, high quality food, great service, fun atmosphere, and absolutely worth the drive. I had the Garden in Tibet--a delicious drink with gin, Prosecco, sugar snap pea syrup (!), green elixir syrup, elderflower liquor, and lemon. You'd think this could be a too-sweet drink, but it was PERFECT. My husband had the Which Damascus the first time, with rye whiskey, cherry basil syrup, hickory syrup, Amaro Montenegro, Tiki bitters, Peychaud bitters, and orange. He enjoyed it, but I thought it was definitely too sweet. He had a Garden in Tibet on our second visit, and preferred the Tibet to the Damascus drink. We love their unique smoked trout deviled eggs as an appetizer. This dish has two eggs filled with smoked trout, and three filled with a deviled egg mixture. The accompanying house hot sauce is so good! For our entrees, we both had hickory-smoked trout on the first visit Mine was definitely saltier than his. We had three sides--collard greens, smoked Gouda grits (our favorite), and corn, hominy, yellow squash & chile hash (so fresh and delicious!). On our second visit, I had the almond and cornmeal-crusted trout with the smoked Gouda grits, and my husband tried their fried chicken sandwich with slaw. He absolutely loved the sandwich--the chicken was thick, juicy, and very tender. He'll definitely get the sandwich again. Service is always good at Speckled Trout, and I love that we can pay with ApplePay at the table via the Toast handheld. We can't wait to return.
