I was given a very nice bicycle by my housemate, who had bought it for her grandson. It had some shifting issues and because it was a good bike I decided to fix it up for a friend. I have no complaints about the work or the price (more than $240) but I still have a bad feeling about the utter lack of warmth I felt from the folks who I dealt with. All I can figure is there may have been an assumption that I could not have just been given such a nice bike so I must have stolen it or received it from a thief. It was weird. So these two guys are fantastic! They have helped me so many times get myself out of jams with my commute bike . Most recently my bike got heavily vandalized and they loaned me a bike while they brought it back to perfect condition. In the last two years the owner has gotten the place really organized and has really turned the place into a community bike shop. I have never loved going into a store, but it is fun to be in this shop, after all where else will you find a shop that will give you free coffee or ice cream and will talk bikes with you for an hour? I had a wonderful experience with Hello Bicycle. I reside in Brooklyn and wanted to ship out the boyfriends bike for his birthday. (The bike lives in Seattle). I researched other shops, but Hello Bicycle was the only one I felt comfortable with and did not feel like I was being ripped off. We moved into the neighborhood at the beginning of the year, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem was literally down the street! First, the shop. They have a selection of new parts and accessories just in case they don't have anything used that's suitable They'll fix your bike for cheap, the labor rate is generous and I'm always surprised at how much service you get for how much you pay. Also, there's a constantly rotating selection of great used bikes to choose from, kid's, vintage, mountain, road, all of the above. I always like going in to see what they've got on the menu. If you need parts, they have tons of Dia-compe parts of all kinds from when the owner bought out the distributor's warehouse years ago. Of course, they can also order you anything you need. And lastly, they've been generous enough to let me use some of their shop to work on my bike. I know that that can be hard for a shop because of the liability and I can't say thank you enough for them allowing me to use their shop as a resource for my amateur wrenching. Show respect, and they respect you back. Highly appreciated. Next is the staff. Sam is there all week, and is highly experienced, no-nonsense, and would rather fix bikes than do just about anything else. He is essentially the perfect bike mechanic. I would trust him to fix anything on my bike, or in the rare case he couldn't, I'd trust that he'd tell it to me straight. Miki is the owner, and I think it's out of his love for bikes, riding, and wanting to serve the community that we get to have this shop up here. They're generous with their time, their resources, and their knowledge, and I can't say thank you enough for every time I walk in and feel at home. This is the PERFECT neighborhood bike shop. This bike shop gets a 5 out of 5 in my book because they have amazing customer service and work hard to help out their customers. I came in with a Shimano 105 shifter that broke and they worked on it for awhile and called Shimano twice to get them to cover it under warranty. Without them advocating for me to Shimano I would have had to spend 150 dollars on a replacement part. Again this place deserves top ratings and have gained my loyalty as my go to LBS. read more

Excellent local bike shop. They are very friendly and will take the time to talk to you about different options. You can tell they all love cycling and are very knowledgeable, but they will kindly use layman's terms if you are just getting into cycling (like myself) in a way that is respectful and not overwhelming. I have come in a couple times because I adjusted something incorrectly on my bike and they have always been willing to tweak it back and show me the correct way or different approaches. More than once when I have been in the shop, various locals stop by to just say hello, work on their bikes, or offer a spare bike seat they no longer use. They are very neighborhood friendly. My girlfriend and i had a bike emergency the other day and needed a pedal fixed. The two guys working were extremely friendly, found the most inexpensive way to fix the bike, and completed the work right then in front of us. I highly recommend this place. I have been going to Hello Bicycle since it opened in 2008 so this long over due. Seattle is full of good bike shops, I have been to all of them, but...HELLO Bicycle is my absolute favorite. They are incredibly knowledgeable about all styles of bicycles. I have a couple mt bikes, a road bike and an adventure touring bike and do all of the day to day maintenance on them myself but I take them all to HELLO for everything else. I have taken a bike in there countless times and Sam or one of his well qualified mechanics will drop what they are doing and help me out. They are very reasonably priced to boot!! The owner Miki could not have been a nicer guy. He totally fixed my wheel on my bike for free on the spot. He was very honest about pricing and other methods to fix my bike that would be costlier. But instead he was like I can make it so that you can ride, and I won't charge you. When it is time to buy a new bike, or ever get repairs done to my bike I will definetly come here. I've never been a serious biker, and I hadn't owned a bike in just over 9 years. I recently decided to buy a used bike. While I did look here for a used bike, they don't have much of a selection to choose from. I ended up buying elsewhere (Recycled Cycles), but we did come in here to have them look at my girlfriend's bike. The guy was incredibly nice and answered some basic questions and took a look at her shifters/gears. Made a few small adjustments and explained a few basics to us for no charge. I've been taking my bikes here for a while when I lived in the neighborhood and had good service. I don't know if ownership or management changed. I brought my girlfriends bike in, they were all about the corporate ( Greg's green lake cycle) up sell. A lady I've never seen before, told me that a 500$ bike needed 300$ in parts to make it shift ok. The bike shop in Columbia city wanted 400$ and said it would never shift right again. I just took it to Go Huck your self bike shop in Renton, they simply bent the rear derailer back in place and some minor adjustments plus a new rear tire (59$). Now it shifts and rides great! This is an amazing bike shop. I know I'm echoing a previous reviewer, but the owner, Miki, is really is the nicest guy ever. He does whatever he can to help you save money and have a good biking experience. One of the last times I was there, there was a family looking at the old tricycles and everyone was having a good time joking around and riding them outside. The last time I was there, he offered to let me give this crazy vintage Japanese bike a spin just because. The store has increased its sales stock in the 6 months that I have been frequenting it and the prices on anything in the store are unbeatable. I have great respect for any knowlegeable advice and qualified recommendations that I have received from the staff. The tires that I bought at the shop were a real bargin and have been a perfect fit for my bike and commute. I did have a bottom bracket replaced at the shop for their typical super affordable price and asked to have a tune up done at the same time despite the fact the drive train was working good. The crank arms did creak horribly when I receved the bike (which I understanded to be very common when changing lightweight aluminum parts), but the tune up was disappointingly poor (noisy chain, skipping teeth, chain rides on spokes in low gear, loose front spokes.) Surprisingly, the owner seemed to be unwilling remedy any of the issues. I suspect they normally do such top-notch work that he was unaccustomed to having a customer come back with problem(s). I do highly recommend the store to any cyclist or commuter. read more

He has been so willing to work within my tight budget and even help me find easier (i.e. less hilly) routes to and from my work. I have gone in numerous times for bike accessories, tune-ups, and to replace my chain ring, and usually end up staying and talking cycling and future plans for the shop. If you're looking for a straightforward, honest, helpful shop willing to go out of their way or even stay open past business hours for you, then head to Hello Bicycle. I was in the area on vacation preparing for STP. I rode over the W. Seattle Bridge for a ride through downtown Seattle. My front hub had been giving me intermittent clicking the past couple of weeks. I had taken it in to my local overpriced shop to get it fixed prior to leaving and they just trued the wheels and obviously didn't test ride it because the clicking continued. I pulled out my iPhone near Safeco Field to look for a local shop. The reviews here caught my eye so I rolled over to see if it could be looked at. I rolled up to the door and the owner was with a customer, but instead of the typical annoyed bike shop look he smiled and said "come on in". How odd. (-: The customer left and he took it for a ride up the street. He was perplexed and as troubled as I was about this annoying sound. He took the hub apart and cleaned it. There was some grit and gunk. He put it back together and rode it around. Clicking gone. Told me if it was the bearings I would need to take it to another shop for pressing because he didn't stock Mavic parts. I asked him how much for his trouble and he said "no charge" because he wasn't sure if it was fixed or not. I demanded he take something for his trouble so he accepted my modest donation. 300 hard miles later the clicking is gone and I think for good. Excellent and honest mechanic if you need one.
