I am an event producer and an operator of private curated trips. In early July, I brought a group…read moreof high-level women to Santa Fe and one of our first activities was a Chocolate Immersion at the Kakawa Chocolate Tasting Room. Led by Bonnie, the owner , it was a terrific experience and one I would highly recommend for other groups. She has created a thoughtful and interesting 1.5 hour experience that walks you through the history and process of chocolate as you taste different chocolates which follow her presentation. At the end, you go to the nearby store to create a custom box of chocolate to take home. Bonnie is very knowledgeable and passionate about chocolate which shines through the experience. Even if you don't do the Immersion, I would suggest stopping by one of the Kakawa locations for high quality chocolate and elixirs (which by the way is vegan/non-diary). You will be glad you did!

(Of course, fabulous chocolate like yours makes us very happy, too.) But friendly, happy, attentive servers like Josh are the best treat of all.

I don't give five stars very often, but this was a very special and unique meal. My niece has…read moreeaten hair and she highly recommended it so we made reservations for 5 PM. We were warmly greeted and we're happy. It was on the quiet side since they weren't busy yet. By the time we left, it was busy! We really enjoyed our server, Paris. He was warm and seemed to take a general interest in us. I shared my concerns with him that my pallet doesn't tolerate much spicy. He at all. He assured me there would be no problem in accommodating that. He started us off with a complementary prickly pear & lemonade drink which we loved! He also provided a complementary appetizer which was very unique and made out of avocado and mascarpone and some other items I don't remember. Why I didn't love it, I did enjoy hasting something so unique and different. We started with the best cornbread I've ever had that shaped like a cob of corn with three different kinds of butters. The cornbread is $12 and worth it! Next came the Caesar salad wrapped in some kind of egg roll wrapper and topped with an anchovy mixture. We split it so we each got two rolls which was plenty. We very much enjoyed the flavors in the salad. Don ordered the Wagyu short rib with polenta. While we don't love polenta, this was tasty and complemented the beef nicely. Don said this was the best short rib he ever had. I wish I had a picture of how they presented it. When they took the lid off, there was a lovely steam cloud and it smelled wonderful. I had scallops with each one placed beautifully on top of of really interesting wild rice and finished with toasted coconut. The pineapple salsa and the Hoja Santa Fe Oil were placed in small rounds in the middle of the dish because they had some kick to them. What was especially impressive, is the gentleman who brought out my meal leaned over and said that the Chef wanted to let me know that the two items in the small dishes had heat to them, but I was encouraged to give them a try for the full flavor. Impressive! I was able to enjoy the pineapple salsa, but the oil was a little too spicy for me, but I'm glad I tried it. We would've loved to try dessert, but we were fully satiated by our delicious meal. It was quite an experience and we look forward to returning.

The inside is dirty and uninviting but I was needing a place right away so I committed. The carrot cake looked really good so I asked the girl for a piece. She was very odd. She started at me as if she couldn't believe someone asked for the carrot cake. She said something I couldn't understand. My friend jumped in to help but she just looked at him too. So odd. Eventually she handed me a styrofoam container with carrot cake in it. I also ordered a small Americano. The Americano was good and the carrot cake was good, but it was a small piece and not worth $13! I asked for the Wi-Fi password, but the other girl working in the counter also kind of stared at me and shrugged her shoulders. I asked again she said "I don't know it" I tried to ask the other girl and she said"we don't know it because no one's ever asked for it before". I said, "but you're a coffee shop and the Wi-Fi is there for guests. We just need the password." And she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. I had to do my Zoom call on my phone walking down the sidewalk because I wasn't staying there.

Ordered the honeybee (espresso with honey,…read morelavender, and steamed milk) and the very last pastry in the case--a blue corn lavender doughnut. The latte didn't do anything for me...it was overly sweet without really tasting of honey or lavender, and was too thick or something. The doughnut, however, was a different story. The blue cornmeal gave it a really nice texture--a bit crunchy, and the icing had actual lavender, not just flavoring. Best $2 I've spent today! They also have Hagen Daaz, for those who are into eating ice cream when it's 33° outside.
