But they pick the worst time to train people so they basically have one guy helping everyone in Santa Fe who wants ice cream at a Häagen-Dazs and in the midst of that he stops to take a couple minutes to train and explain everything to his trainee as the lion grows longer and longer. Avoid this location! This was the worst ice cream experience I have ever had, and it raised serious food safety concerns. The employee who served me, a young woman with very long nails, handled my cone without care. She touched the cone directly and even dragged her arm along the edges of the ice cream vat. Completely unsanitary. My husband ordered a cookies and cream shake that tasted like watered-down milk. He has never thrown away an ice cream in his life, but he did today. That says everything about the quality being served here. The most disturbing part was what happened to the customer in front of us. She ordered strawberry but was given raspberry instead. The mistaken raspberry scoop was handed to her, then taken back by the employee without knowing if she had tasted it. That scoop was dumped back into the raspberry container, and then a scoop of strawberry was placed into a dirty cup that had already held raspberry. Watching that was shocking and completely unacceptable. On top of this, my husband's shake was passed between two different employees before it was finally given to him, while others stood around laughing and chatting in front of customers instead of working. The entire environment was careless, chaotic, and unprofessional. I do not place all the blame on the young employees. This comes down to management failing to train them properly in food safety handling and customer service. Allowing this kind of behavior is dangerous and reflects terribly on the Häagen-Dazs brand. Other reviews mention the same problems, which shows this is not a one-time issue. This shop needs immediate oversight from corporate, and the health department should take a close look at their practices. Avoid this location until serious changes are made. read more

Many of the ice creams in the case had ice crystals on the top like the freezer wasn't working right. Two different kids scooped our order of 2 cups with 2 scoops each and they didn't turn out at all even in size. You could taste the ice crystals in the strawberry . Yuck. read more

Used to be one of our favorate stops when we went down to the SF Plaza area.....no more..... The last year or so, the service at this shop has been extremely poor. The employees act like they are being put out and actually doing you a favor to take your order. Orders are poorly prepared and inconsistent. Shop is frequently cluttered and dirty. On our last trip (about a week ago), we ordered three milk shakes. Two of the shakes were runny, I had to ask for the whipped cream topping (shown on the order board), the chocolate drizzle (also shown in on the order board) was left out, the card reader did not work and the staff was downright rude. There are other choices on and around the Plaza. We are done with this shop and encourage anyone looking for an ice cream treat to look elsewhere. read more

Ordered three ice cream scoops. Paid with credit card. The lady asked if I wanted a receipt. Since they were so busy I declined. Capital One just notified me that I had left a 60% tip for the scoops. They instructed me I had to contact the store. I have tried every telephone number I could find for the store and for the main Haagen-Dazs website. They are all incorrect. Be aware that your card may be charged for more than it should be. I never leave a tip in a store that is just providing a service that the store is supposed to do (i.e. serve ice cream). And so a $13 tip on a $20 charge is disgusting. Will never recommend this store. read more

Strolling around the Plaza can get a bit warm in the summer months and this July was no exception. Feeling a bit overheated we popped in to gram a cup of ice cream and a bottle of water (and enjoy the AC as well). The service was brisk and friendly even with the large number of people doing the same thing as us. After tasting a few flavors we settled what we wanted and relaxed to cool off and people watch. This used to be one of my of my favorite haunts in Santa Fe, but alas it has changed. Other merchants informed us they original owners sold this around five months ago. The new owners are not like the old owners. I love the ice cream, but this place is the most mismanaged, confusing ice cream store. First of all, a limited amount of flavors - they only had around 12 or so flavors. It's more about baked goods, coffee and sandwiches. I understand wanting to expand your business, but where's the ice cream? Along with the limited selection of ice cream, they were out of vanilla, had pictures of sundaes on the wall, yet didn't have the ice cream to make them. Or if they had the ice cream, they didn't have the toppings. (Speaking of toppings - only two: hot fudge and caramel). Very confusing to order because the staff appears just as confused as the customers. There was no organization about an ordering system and the staff (all three) seemed lost behind the counter on making orders. Plus the scoops are very tiny and portions are inconsistent between scoops. I really felt ripped off. I asked for a hot fudge topping and it was barely a half of teaspoon and if I wanted more, I would be charged it. Meanwhile the counter help told us they were "giving us a break on price". So how much would this have cost me I wonder? Meanwhile, we paid $14 for two 2-scoop cups. Save your money, go to Albertsons Safeway or 7-11 and purchase it there. Better deal. read more

Came here today with my parents who wanted a hot coffee and sister who wanted a smoothie. The barista was very inattentive and ready to get our money rather than giving us good service. Apart from that, they didn't have any fruit, so we couldn't get a smoothie, and they didn't have regular milk either.
