Chocolate and locally owned & operated - what's not to love. Really small place with handmade chocolate candies & hand dipped fruit. All different varieties of bark. Most are decidedly New Mexican flavor. We could spend a lot of $$$ on candy here and most wouldn't survive the trip back to Albuquerque . Tasted were simple today. Hand dipped mango slices (dried mango pieces dipped in dark chocolate) and dipped oatmeal, cranberry & walnut cookie. Both were delicious. Neither surviving the trip home. They had plenty of Artisan Cold Chocolate drinks. But today wasn't warm enough for cold. The only warm drink was hot chocolate - we'll pass this time. This place is inside a mall. We were greeted when we walked in. We tried the chocolate cup from Dubai and a dark chocolate dipped orange slice. The chocolate cup had a dried strawberry piece and pistachios with something crispy on top. It was a smooth bite that was good. My spouse enjoyed the orange slice. We came here because it was directly across the hall from the dumpling tea place where we enjoyed an appetizer. read more

We spent over $100 on chocolate here. Including four hot chocolates plus several specialty chocolates in their display cases. Every single thing in this shop is extremely bitter, dark chocolate with no other options. My family threw their hot chocolates in the garbage after we walked away. There's no options for milk, chocolate or anything else. I have never had an experience in my life where I literally threw all of the chocolate into the garbage after taking a single bite. Not edible in our opinion I would only recommend this if you like 99% dark. No other options. And extremely pricing. read more

I am not a big fan of this chocolate shop.  Three of us finished our tasty lunch at the soup bun restaurant across the hall. We thought a little piece of chocolate after our meal would be a nice treat so we went over to choose something delectable.   Visually, the chocolates looked good.  If the prices were posted, I didn't see them, so I asked.  I don't remember the exact quote but I think the employee said $4-something per pound.  Ok, but just as I'm not good at guessing  people's ages, nor could I begin to guess the weight of one piece of chocolate. The employee could have been more helpful and let me know the average price a piece would cost. She didn't.  I spotted the truffles in the display case behind me.  When we're somewhere with a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, we splurge on truffles so we decided to do the same here.  The employee informed me as she was putting them in a bag that they were not priced by the pound, they were $5 each.  There is no Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Santa Fe (that I know of) but at the one on  the plaza in Taos, truffles are $3.75 each. I think they are bigger and I know for certain they are better.   I don't expect to go to this chocolate shop again. read more

Temps in the 30's today, perfect opportunity to try this shop's hot chocolate. I *loved* the spice in my "Tribal," and it was beautifully prepared. Unlike other reviewers, I did not find the prices out of line for an artisan beverage - which often reflect the quality of the ingredients (in this case, house-roasted cocoa beans and some really thick whipped cream, plus ground cinnamon and red chile powder). My only suggestion would be to serve the chocolate at a higher temperature, otherwise I was completely happy with my experience. read more

I was lucky enough to find this wonderful store on yelp. My friend took the last mint and chip ice cream from the cart in the park so i went on a search to find ice cream nearby. I was so lucky this place popped up. It is in the back left corner of this shopping center. You walk in and are quickly greeted by the wonderful couple working. They even offered us samples as soon as we got inside. We even got to meet their adorable children. The store is adorable, and the decorations and cute. But let's talk about the chocolate! The first thing I noticed was the WHITE CHOCOLATE! So I know everyone loves milk and dark chocolate, you do you, but my favorite by far is white chocolate. They have artisan white chocolate. This wonderful white chocolate bark, this fruit dipped in white chocolate. I fell in love with the white chocolate, plain, nothing else added, just straight deliciousness. I could go on for days about how amazing this white chocolate is! I was happy to get ice cream, this was still my original goal, a lavender lemonade and a wonderful bag of white chocolate. I am so sad to say that my bag only made it with me to the airport because I finished it waiting for my flight. I truly wish they were much closer to me I would go all the time. So when they eventually have a store in California I will be all over it! If you are ever in Santa Fe, you have to check out this wonderful shop! I hear they even opened up a store in Albuquerque, if they would have been there while I was in Albuquerque for the conference, my wallet would have been in trouble. We came here a couple of years ago and the owners were very nice; gave us some samples and we took home some very good chocolate. We returned today and, maybe because it was too close to closing or whatever but we had to practically beg for descriptions of items (and no samples). Instead we brought home one truffle and a small piece of bark for 22 bucks! (See pic) We should have just walked out but it's our anniversary and my wife really wanted a good chocolate to have after dinner. No matter how good it might be they just lost a customer. I'm a chocaholic, so this was the first place we stopped in Santa Fe. It's tucked back into a little inside area with other shops. We really enjoyed the various chocolate-covered dried fruit. I saw a sign on the street for a Chocolate place and I was like WHAT IS THIS SORCERY???? I had to take a look. Did you know that in your wildest dreams of things you want covered with chocolate, they may exist? They may exist at Chocolate en la Plaza. Want a chocolate covered dried mango or organic pear or Chile? Literally you'll find it here. My head basically exploded. I ordered a mocha in flavor tribal (they have like 6 mocha flavors) and half caf (they did not know what half caf meant so I had to explain it, so good). Everything here is hand made so they had to grind my coffee beans, so it took a while to get but did not disappoint. In true fashion to a lot of my New Mexico cuisine experiences, I took a sip and was like "Oh wow that is good." It was so rich I couldn't finish it so next time I'll aim for the small. read more

I think the sample of dark chocolate tasted better than my actual purchase of the green Chile cashew bark. The cashew over powered the chocolate and there was zero hint of the green Chile. I wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate combinations they created. The earl gray truffle was just okay. I think it's overpriced to be honest, but understand due to the location and rental expenses. I got the lavender white hot chocolate with lil bits of lavender in it made with almond milk and almond whipped cream! Its very sweet hot and oh so delicious! On 1st slip it was like heaven in my mouth! I bite into lil peices of lavender and that gave it a slight bitterness but that really balanced out the sweetness of the chocolate! What a great family-owned place we stumbled on as we were visiting Santa Fe on our first day. I knew I wanted chocolate, and this was just what I had hoped to find--someplace with more different and unique flavors, and something locally-owned. Not Hershey's or Godiva. Nothing against either one of those, they are good, but I wanted something I can't find at home. What unique truffles they offer here! Flavors like chile or green tea. I got a honey lavender and it didn't disappoint. So very tasty. I also had an iced horchata latte, since horchata is one of my favorite flavors and hard to find at home. Only 4 stars due to the hefty price but, the quality was exceptional, if not magical --worth every dollar. You'll find a really friendly staff in this petite joint in the downtown Santa Fe arcade. They have chalkboard menus offering a number of fun things--I was bummed I wasn't in the mood for a hot chocolate, because they had a lavender one on their list. And that sounds amazing. I think what I got was called a Bizcocho maybe? It was sorta like a less sweet shortbread cookie, partially covered in chocolate and some spiced nuts.
