I needed someone to reconfigure our surround sound system after one of our kids touched some buttons and we couldn't figure out how to fix it, and program a universal remote. After an awful experience with Geek Squad where I ended up cancelling their appointment due to them not having their act together, I did a search and found these guys via Google. I called them mid morning - They took all of my information, asked really direct questions to get the information they needed, and quoted me a fair price (about $80 less than what Geek Squad wanted to charge me), which is exactly what I ended up paying, so no hidden fees were involved. Within a half hour of hanging up, I got an email from one of their techs asking if I was still free at 3:00 that day. I said yes, and asked if he could get there about 10 after, and he seemed happy to oblige. Patrick was awesome. He was really thorough in looking over the sound system, and was able to fix it, as well as configure it so that we could use it with our Smart TV apps. He even ran out to get a wire he needed, and fixed our outside deck speakers. He programmed our remote so that everything was accessible there, and so that if something were to get messed up again, it was easy to reset to the correct settings. He spent at least 3 hours working on things. On top of that, he was super friendly, and didn't seem to mind my dog sneaking over to try to cuddle with him and give him kisses (despite my efforts to keep her outside of his personal space). He spent some time with me doing a 'How to' and answering my questions before he left as well. On time, thorough, helpful, and friendly = great service. I really appreciated that they stayed true to the cost they quoted me, and that they were able to come out same day to resolve my issue. SCAM! Multiple rescheduling after billing my credit card. Tech called to say he was in his way and never showed up. Another tech was assigned, he never showed up. They res checked the appointment without my concern and then the tech still do not show up. Customer service finally admitted no tech was available but I spoke with the tech a few hours ago who said he is on the way. COMPLETE SCAM. Use ANY OTHER IT SERVICE. I spoke to one the night before he was scheduled to come to my house and asked him if he needed anything to complete the work. He said no. Then he comes over and he's got me rummaging through my basement looking for an external cd-rom because he didn't bring one. I called and explained this can't work....I have a job and they promised someone will come at 12. No. At 12 I got an email saying they aren't coming and are looking for another tech. I thought I would hire them to install my NEST thermostat. After 45 minutes the tech informed me that I would need an additional power source running to my outlet from the Nest. Don't use them. It wasn't a professional service as expected. I specifically asked for the TV to be located at a certain height, with tape on the walls and all. The tech then decides to drill a hole lower than we discussed and what was illustrated - which then brings about another challenge. Short of it is, my TV is no where I wanted it to be. His solution was to settle for his height or have a huge hole in my wall. Ugh! I hate the height even to this day. Their service is beyond unsatisfactory and I regret using this company. Friendly? Barely. He was hard to reach - he was an hour and a half late and I had to keep texting the scheduler person because he didn't call and had me waiting around ON A SATURDAY!!! Prior to the schedule of the installation - someone called me and asked specifically what type of Ring camera I was having installed. I told them one of each (wired and wireless). At no point did this person tell me "by the way, our techs aren't cleared to "run wires through the wall - so make sure there's an outlet outside if you have a wired camera to be installed". So he could only install 1/2 camera I bought. That coupled with the lack of professionalism and inconsideration for the customer - I should be comp'd the installation fee. Especially, since I have to have a second tech come out to install the second camera bc I apparently need to have the solar panel and the other camera needs to be the mounted security camera. Lies, shakedowns, crappy installations. Was told the price would be $160.00, for two nest cam IQ outdoor installations. "Installer" showed up, with barely any tools, no ladder. Needed to use my drill, my drill bits, my ladder. Had no protective clothing, nothing covering his shoes. Then proceeded to tell me that a "second installation" would be an additional $75, CASH. Ended up installing the cameras where I did not want, left my brick outside my house damaged, left the inside of my house a mess, and required my help, when I stated the only reason I'm paying to have them installed is because I injured my back and couldn't do it myself. These cameras are set up for my disabled wife, and this guy is shaking me down for extra pocket money. Worst service ever, BBB complaint filed. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. read more

This company used third party contractors. When I place the order the Rep assured me re-programming my existing universal remote (Logictech Quantum) would not be a problem, well it was a huge problem. The poor tech was not giver any direction as to how to set it up. The CS supervisor the tech called told him to call logictech! Additionally, it took the rep two hours to remove the old 32in and set up a new 43 in. The poor guy did not have the correct screws and had to run to Ace Hardware to get them! So here I sit with a new TV with no universal remote, no sound ( rep could not get the sound bar to work) , and no DVD blue ray player! So now I will be calling the Geek Squad in the morning and have the job done right! Save your time, money and aggravation and call a professional, NOT HELLO TECH! Now a week later and Geek Squad just left. The TV was / is now mounted correctly, the sound bar works great, the Direct TV is working, and the Blue Ray works ! Lesson learned. read more

I've had a poor experience with HelloTech so far. I scheduled an appointment and entered my credit card info, as required by their website, in order to install a Nest Hello doorbell. When I spoke the company the said a chimebox already needed to be in place, so I told them I needed to postpone the appointment. Without consulting me, the appointment was moved to two days later and I didn't have the chimebox installed yet. When cancelled the appointment, my credit card was charged a $25 cancellation fee even though I didn't schedule the second appointment, they did without consulting me. When I raised this with Customer Service, I was told someone else would get back to me. It's been two days, still waiting. Not a good experience so far. Hope they can turn it around. read more

I have an appt for 5/29/15 @9am and the tech didn't show until almost 12 noon. I had to reschedule my 12 doctors appt. I was told by the rep on the phone that it takes about 45 to 1 hour for the geek to clean my computer.But I figured it would be more like 11/2 It took him 3hrs!!! So he didn't finish un til 3pm. I had to be at work at 330 so he made me late because even though he said he was "done" it wasn't because it took 30 for it to finish uploading the virus protection so I couldn't even check to see if he actually fixed the problem. I complained to customer service and they said they would not charge my card for 4hrs until a Manger calls me. A manager never called and they charge my call anyway! read more

Hired HelloTech to install and download a program. First they did it incorrectly BUT MOST IMPORTANT THE TECH TRIED TO SCAM ME! The tech gave me a phone number and told me it was for Apple and they would reset my passoword. Turns out it was a boiler room in India. Fishing for personal information. The next day they tried to access my Apple account. Fortunately Apple saw it as suspicious activity and froze my account still I had to change all my usernames, passwords and security questions. HelloTech is made up of independent contractors who pick and choose what jobs they want to do. There is little if any oversight on how they conduct themselves. So I see it as a crapshoot - maybe the tech is honest maybe not. The one I got was simply dishonest. read more
