We moved my father out after six months of being there. We paid the up charge for enhanced care. He was not given his medication at the times passed necessary. Parkinson's medication's need to be delivered in a very timely manner. This has ramifications on lucidity of the person. On more than one occasion when a family member was there, they were late with his medicine. Sometimes we had to request it after the time had passed. We purchased mattress pads in case of him, soiling his bed, and they never used them. They promised he would be taken out of his room, plenty and given activities to keep him busy. This happened rarely if ever. He was often sitting in his room with the TV blaring, wearing soiled undergarments. While he was in the hospital, we went to go retrieve his things, and the room had not been cleaned or touched. Dirty bedding was left on the floor and the room was a mess with the garbage can full. I almost forgot to mention that they lost most of his wardrobe in the laundry! Instead of someone running and getting him some pants from target or somewhere, they told us we needed to do it and then bring them by. I understand it was up to us to replace the entire Wardrobe and they would reimburse us, but that is ridiculous. The only thing I can say is that the place looks clean and is fancy like a four star hotel. The food is decent. I would not send a loved one here. Be prepared to pay River Oaks prices.. also be prepared for big promises with very few being kept. They are all about the sales pitch.

*PLEASE READ ENTIRE REVIEW *…read more As of 2/5/24, I am a former employee of Brightstar Care (Downtown Houston location on Richmond Avenue). This business is very unorganized, unprofessional, and not fair at all! I've given them several chances to get it together. My coworkers and myself (on the 24/7 case that we worked on) had to bring our own toilet paper, gloves, and have had to bring food, drinks, and supplies for our patient on MANY times. I've spent a little over $100 total on different occasions buying food and supplies such as: tooth paste, mouth wash, body wash, deodorant, food, etc.. They knew this, and never reimbursed me. I told the office when things were out and they did absolutely nothing about it, because they knew that two of my coworkers and myself, would stop by the store before work and buy her food. So, that was one less thing they had to worry about. I love what I do; but shouldn't be responsible for providing food or anything else for my patients. I gave Brenda Garza (the Client Care Coordinator) a heads up that I was starting my new job and needed to change my availability to PRN. So, I showed up for my shift 2/5 only to find they sent another lady. I wasted my gas, and also gave up a shift at my other job (thinking that I was already scheduled). I was crystal clear on when I was supposed to start my new job. Brenda sent a lady who literally didn't know any English at all! She had to use the translator app for EVERYTHING she asked me. It was mind blowing. If a person doesn't know English, at least know enough to get by with taking care of a patient. Maybe the employee was a friend of hers who needed more work. So, she decided to take my shift with no notice at all. That's so unprofessional! I know she has her picks of who she wants to send. Brenda has done the same thing to another caregiver in the past. The agency is the worst in every way! Half of the caregivers who work for them are lazy as well. I've voiced my concerns several times and was ignored. I shouldn't have to come on shift to the patient soaking wet, bed pad wet, and the sheets wet. Especially when the patient eliminates very little at a time. That's neglect!! Plain and simple.. I shouldn't have to clean smeared BM off the back of the toilet seat (which the patient does not use at all). A grown woman should know how to wipe herself correctly. Then, sometimes, this one caregiver would leave dirty diapers in the kitchen trash can. I only noticed after she left. There was also a caregiver who relieved me and she brought her husband to her shift to stay there with her. That is a huge HIPPA violation!! To add insult to injury, they came in smelling like ten packs of cigarettes. The last thing I experienced is a caregiver would actually bring her baby and sister with her to her night shift. It is a complete CIRCUS to work for Brightstar (Downtown Houston location). This may seem a bit much to reveal, but I do have proof of everything I've experienced, in case I ever have to use it!! They should be ashamed of themselves!

To begin, their intake nurses are rough, belligerent and detached. The lady we got could care less about my mother, she just wanted to do the minimum and get out. Not a single commitment was upheld, not one. We called for support and help four times in the first week and the average time to hear back from someone was two hours, then another two hours for a nurse to arrive. So if you have an emergency, just call the ambulance and have the hospital take care of it, it's faster, and your loved one will suffer less. Now, as a result of me firing them, they became hostile, threatened to make me pay for equipment they left behind and failed to retrieve. They never took into consideration that my mom had died and their employees, having missed the appointment to pick up the equipment, lied and said a dead woman was preventing them from getting it. We choose to go with another company who was hands down better suited for caring for end of life patients. Houston Hospice is a money game, you are a dollar sign, if you are cool with that, then use them.

When my mother was discharged home, we were told her equipment would be delivered the day before discharge. That did not happen. We were also told a hospice nurse would be at the house waiting to assess her when she arrived home. That also did not happen. I had to call multiple times just to find out where the equipment was and when a nurse would arrive. We then learned she had not even been fully admitted yet. It took several days to sort everything out during a very stressful time. One nurse who came out did not appear to know how to use the oxygen equipment. A week into hospice care, we still had not seen a nurse aide and again had to call to ask what was going on. The organization has felt extremely disorganized from the start. Communication between admissions and the clinical team does not appear coordinated, and the promises made to our family were not followed through. Most concerning, the nurse assigned to care for my dying parent has spent significant time on her phone during visits rather than focused on patient care. This has been incredibly disappointing during one of the hardest times for our family. Families considering hospice should ask detailed questions and verify exactly what services will actually be provided and when.
