We hired Helping Hands Philly to make our latest move easier on us. This was the most horrific experience we have ever had, and we made our last move ourselves with the assistance of one friend! Helping Hands did not help us to have a stress free move-they actually CAUSED stress. We moved locally-about 15-20 min away from where we previously lived. For two days, my husband, father and I even moved some things in order to ease some of the burden of our move and ensure that it could be made in a timely and cost-effective manner. I detailed everything that we needed Helping Hands Philly to move, opted to have the full service move and was given a quote for what the cost would be for 2-4 hours with 3 movers. First off, Darryl Brown-the owner-changed our move time without consulting with us. The time was changed from 8 am- which we'd selected due to the 3 hour arrival window they have in their agreement-to 1pm, this after having to change our move-in date due to snow despite their "rain or shine" policy. When the moving truck arrives it is a Penske truck, which is no big deal...I mean, you WOULD expect a MOVING company to own their own truck, but who cares as long as they provide great service. Well, Darryl didn't order a DOLLY! I clearly stated in my inventory at his request on his website all of the heavy furniture which would need to be moved, in addition to some heavy bins that needed to be moved, and Darryl the "professional" mover did not order a dolly. So the movers ended up using MY dolly. There were also NO FURNITURE PADS which I requested. So of course at least one of our book cases was severely scratched on both sides, my coffee table got nicked and I watched in disbelief as they dragged my mattress across the hallway floor. Did I say MOVERS earlier? When we arrived back at our old place, the Penske truck had just pulled up-there were supposed to be THREE movers, but NO! There was only ONE mover. One mover showed up "on time" according to the schedule adjustment Darryl took it upon himself to make without consulting with me or my husband. The 2nd mover shows up an hour later, and two more arrived 3.5 hrs after the 2nd mover arrived (!!!) and took the place of the 1st mover. Now before I go into how sketchy and sheisty this practice of Darryl's is, I must first comment that one of the movers decided to take time out to make prayer-not outside or in some other location but ON THE TRUCK so that we could not make progress until he was done. Of course my husband attempted several times to reach Darryl about the level of unprofessionalism from both him and his "staff-" whom I can concur with another reviewer that HE NEVER EVEN MET THESE MEN HE SENT TO HELP US MOVE!!! They flat out told us that they never met him! My husband finally got Darryl to stop texting and actually call him and explain himself and this extremely unprofessional mess he calls a moving company. So 4.5 HOURS after the start time that Darryl decided was the best time for us to move rather than stick to the time we gave him as the freaking CUSTOMERS, we FINALLY have the three movers we were supposed to have from the beginning. Now I stated earlier that we'd done a lot of moving ourselves prior to helping hands' involvement. We started moving with one mover around 1pm and didn't get finished up until about 8 pm- not at all convenient for us nor for our new neighbors. Not to mention that with the THREE MOVERS we were supposed to have from the beginning, we could have knocked that move out in roughly 4 hours and NOT 7 hours! Which Darryl tried to make us pay for despite all of his deficiencies! So here's the biggest problem-Darryl's business model is dishonest. He doesn't send all three movers out at the same time-he sends one, then another comes an hour later-there's your initial two hours for roughly $334 during which time you are SUPPOSED TO HAVE THREE WORKERS. So for the first hour you're paying for 3 people when you only have 1, the second hour you're still paying for 3 people when there's only 2. The last two workers didn't arrive until 5:30 pm-I made a note of the arrival times of each worker. That was the only time we had the three man crew we were supposed to have had from the start of our move-once we'd gone well over the expected time for our move. The other workers weren't late either- Darryl didn't send them a text message to come out and move us until 4:30 pm. We asked them what time they got a message from him that they had a moving gig, and they stated that he contacted them at 4:30pm!!!!!! OUTRAGEOUS! So this means that a move that could have been done in 2-4 hours had we had all three movers there on time and had Darryl ordered a dolly was purposely dragged out by Darryl in order to inflate the cost of our move! And Darryl won't own up to it. I've read other reviews where he responded by blaming the customer and refusing to take ownership, get a clue, correct himself, and STOP CHEATING PEOPLE! With only about a week's notice I thought getting movers was going to be an absolute nightmare-I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. I called Darryl at Helping Hands Movers to inquire about their Full Service Moving for my one-bedroom apartment and he was extremely informative. Booking the move was super easy; It can be done either over the phone or online (and is simple and quick). Darryl, the manager, keeps in touch through email constantly to make sure everything is on track for moving day and that all of your items are accounted for so there are no surprises. He is easy to be in contact with and is there to answer all of your questions. Also, it is a very easy online form - no frills and straight to the point so the movers know what to expect when they arrive at your residence. On moving day, I received a courtesy phone call letting me know the truck would be arriving shortly. The guys were very friendly and got right down to business moving my furniture and boxes. All of my furniture was taken care of, neatly wrapped/ packed inside the truck and none of my walls were bumped or nicked in the process. The movers, Dan and Kevin, did a fantastic job and took special care of all of my items. Despite some afternoon rain, the traffic, my poor experience with Comcast and a rude leasing office woman- I truly have nothing but happy thoughts when it comes to the actual moving experience. I recently utilized helping hands moving services for a move. I switched buildings at my current complex, and needed the to to transfer my belongings. I reached out to the company via phone and online. Darryl the owner, referred me to the website. There were several options to choose from and I chose the one the suited my needs best. The day of the move was very hectic for me (I woke up to discover my car had been vandalized) however when the movers arrived they were extremely professional and told me to focus on my car and they would handle the move. They were careful with my belongings and quick. I was surprised that there wasn't a requirement to make a deposit prior to the move. It's refreshing to know that some businesses still believe in trusting the customer. The only negative, if you even want to call it that, would be that there's not a lot of communication before hand. My appointment wasn't "confirmed" until a couple days before. Darryl explained that this was because he and his guys were super busy. Like I said it's not really a bad thing, unless you're type A like me and like having everything confirmed weeks in advance. I would definitely recommend and use helping hands again! read more

I needed a mover on quick notice, as I sold my house and had to move in under 30 days and my previous used moving company went out of business... Helping Hands was able to accommodate this request without batting an eye, when other moving companies couldn't. From start to finish, my experience with Helping Hands Movers was nothing but positive. Darryl responded prompt to my initial inquiry, offered me a very reasonable and accurate estimate of the cost, explained clearly what would be included, and answered all my questions regarding what the day would be like. His Staff kept in contact with me prior to the move to be sure everything would run smoothly on my moving day. On the day of my move, 4 very capable, respectful staff arrived promptly. They were professional and efficient with their time from start to finish. What impressed me the most was they were able to dismantle pieces of my furniture when no one else previously, including myself could figure it out. Great experience! We have moved a few times over the last 10 years. I have always done most of the heavy moving myself, with the help of family or friends. Well, my knees and back are not as strong as they used to be, so I started searching for movers. I heard and read about so many bad stories of items getting damaged or destroyed by movers. My wife read a post about Helping Hands Movers from one of her friends. After checking out their reviews online we decided to give them a call to move our large items - sofa, dressers, tv stand, table, etc... They did an outstanding job! They packed up all of our large items (a full truck) in about 90 minutes. They moved everything quickly and carefully...more than I would have been, and I am very careful and meticulous when it comes to moving. It was awesome to watch our items get packed up (90 min), driven to our new place (30 min), and unpacked (60 min)...without the aches and pains of doing it ourselves. I was a little worried & skeptical after reading some of the reviews on here, but everything went really well with my move thanks to Helping Hands Philly. I needed to move between 7am-9am, and Darryl told me he could accommodate this, albeit with a 100$ upcharge due to the early time. It is a little strange to require having to put down a deposit (no other company I inquired required this), but it was credited towards the final cost of the move so it works out in the end. We had 2 movers promptly arrive at 640am for the 7am start time, and both were great- very kind, respectful and industrious. We finished our move well within the time frame and all of our items were carefully and respectfully handled. I think you have to have a reasonable understanding of what this service provides, as the quotes I received from Helping Hands Philly were substantially lower than other companies for the same services rendered. Overall, I had a great experience, and I wanted to share this because I'm sure most people are inclined to leave a review when things go poorly, rather than when things go well. read more

I had a fantastic experience with this moving company! The crew was a group of young guys who were incredibly hardworking, kind, and professional from start to finish. We were moving in the heart of an ice storm, which could have easily made things stressful or caused delays. However, it didn't have any negative effect on their service at all. They showed up on time, stayed positive, and worked carefully and efficiently despite the tough weather conditions. They handled all of my belongings with great care and made sure everything was properly protected during the move. Not a single item was damaged, and they were extremely attentive to detail. I hired 2 guys for 2 hours. I was in a pinch looking for movers and "Helping Hands Movers" were there for me. I scheduled 2 days before the move and requested the move for 6pm, which was extremely helpful since I did not want to take time off work for the move. I asked for help specifically on the larger ticket items including a dresser with a mirror hutch, office table, futon, bed, nightstand and some others. The two arrived on time and were very professional. I wanted to make sure we were able to load and unload the large items and about 10-15 medium sized boxes within the 2 hour frame. The team was more than happy to abide given they did not have to rush the job. They operated at a fair pace; and were able to get everything accomplished that I asked of them. For a medium sized business still growing the owner and his team were agreeable and accommodating in their service. I feel that one of the more difficult things to find in this city is a good reliable contractor - right? Well, search no more - Darrel who is the owner of Helping Hands Household Services is reliable, honest, hardworking and does quality work at a fair price! I own a home and two rental properties and feel so relieved I have a person I can depend on. My toilet was broken in one of my rental properties and Darrel went in the evening and repaired it for my tenants. Afterward he called me and explained the issue as well as recommended I not replace it because the problem wasn't as bad as I thought. Recently I had a roof leak in my home in West Philly, and when I called him for help - he told me that he doesn't specialize in roof issues and that he would probably be wasting my time to try to fix. I had a wonderful experience hiring helping hands! I literally did not have to lift a thing! I was just watching them while trying to get out of their way. They were very professional and I like that they strategized which furnitures should go in the truck first (before they bring anything out) so they don't have to scatter my stuff around the parking lot. Daryl was responsive and his guys even called me up, on the day of the move, to let me know that they're on their way. I moved on Mother's Day, in which I'm really grateful that they can provide services on that day!! It would be good if they brought a rope (to hold the door) and blankets (for furnitures) with them, but no biggie, we were able to figure it out. Such lifesavers! I was stood up by another moving company the night before the 4th of July after my couch didn't fit up the stairwell of my apartment. I was scrambling to find someone on short notice on a national holiday who could hoist the couch over my 3rd floor balcony and it was not going well. He and his team came the very next morning and got it inside with no problem! I was in a bind finding reliable people to help with my move when I had to leave Philadelphia. I called around and was given exorbitant pricing and it had to be a 4 hour minimum time and I knew with what little I had that would be too many hours to pay for. I called and found Helping hand of Philly and was given great information, great pricing and the day of my move the two strong guys they sent were really good. They carried Boxes and pieces of furniture with no dollie and were finished within the 2 hour time frame I felt I needed for the amount of stuff I had to pack in the truck. They were excellent. Very careful, and helpful trying to figure out how to fit in all my things. And offered to help all the time. They even looked up places for me to drop off a couch that didn't fit in my new place. I had 2 people working for 2 hours and they came completely prepared with dollies and tools. Very quick in getting all my things out of the truck o rented so we got some in under 2 hours. Still they offered to put the boxes upstairs in the corresponding rooms and even put together my frame and mattress. The service was awesome. In today's world, I don't expect much, but the Helping Hands Philly team outperformed and exceeded expectations. They were timely, friendly, expert, careful, and reliable. There's always an unexpected problem, and they handled such problems expertly and without complaint. Our issues included gale-force winds and pouring rain at our destination, they protected everything perfectly, including an antique Victrola which I was particularly worried about. This is a very professional business from my first call in October to my movers showing up on time this morning (November 23rd) and loading the pods with my stuff for my move to Florida. They worked well together and very quickly had the pods loaded with all of my stuff. They also took the time to survey my needs by giving me a list of questions about what I would need. They had me take pictures of my stuff and kept in contact with before the move. They were even willing to change the date of service when I needed them too.
