Checked out Hemingway's Underground on a date night with another couple and it was such a fun night out! The atmosphere is a modern speakeasy style cocktail bar with a cozy, upscale vibe that makes it perfect for date night. To start, we ordered the Yiayia's Kitchen, which was a little bit of everything from marinated olives, hummus, pita, and a traditional Greek salad. We also shared the warm baguette served with Herbes de Provence-infused olive oil, balsamic, fresh parsley, and smoked flaked sea salt butter. Absolutely delicious. For my entrée, I ordered the Basil Pesto Pasta with Chicken. The basil pesto cream sauce was light, flavorful, and delicious. My only complaint was that the chicken portion was a little sparse. My husband ordered the gyro, he loved the house whipped feta and tzatziki on the pita topped with gyro meat -- definitely worth ordering. Of course, we had to try several craft cocktails throughout the evening, and every one we ordered was excellent. Great drinks, delicious food, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Visited Hemingway's Underground with the wife recently. She made a reservation, which is generally required here. Upon arrival, we were seated and a waiter/bartender visited us within 10 minutes. Our waiter was very friendly and funny. I requested an amaretto sour and my wife requested prosecco with gin. Our drinks were made, delivered, and were delicious. Then I requested a Fathead's Bumbleberry, which was good. We requested two appetizers - pistachios and hummus. Those two were made and delivered fairly quickly. The sweet pistachios were really tasty. The hummus was excellent as well. For dinner, I went with braised short rib and my wife requested Athenian chicken. While we waited, we enjoyed conversation and the ambience of this subterranean establishment. There were TVs with old commercials playing. There were at least six bartenders making drinks and serving food. The place was packed and the staff worked hard to provide quick service. Upon arrival, our dinners looked appetizing. My braised short rib was very tasty. The mashed potatoes were delicious. My wife liked her lemony chicken. It had a crunchy crust that tasted like lemon. It was very good. Food was Stellar! Or server/mixologist was so welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable. With so many cocktails and options it took a Lil bit to make decisions. We never were rushed and lived the recommendations given to us. The venue only hosts (i can't say exact number, but id guess 15 tables in addition to the intimate bartop option. 3.5 stars. First time here, we had tried to secure reservations several times and it was always booked so we took out chances on a midweek walk in. Oddly enough, we were the only customers for most of our visit. Everything was just good, but we were not blown away by the ambiance. Drinks were ok. Food, ehh. My favorite thing was the pistachios, if that tells you anything. I felt like my Bourdain sandwich was on pair with a Costco deli sandwich. This is definitely a fun hip kinda place. Went here Black Friday after some shopping. You need reservations but we went at kind of an odd time and got in. Go on the website. Sat at the bar. Bartender was super nice and talked about the various drinks and what had a Christmas type of feel. There were 3 of us. We got a pumpkin martini, eggnog drink and I got the darkember. All 3 were totally good! Presentation and taste. Now this place is not cheap. Most drinks are over $14 a drink. Food looked good but we did not partake. Just the drinks. The atmosphere is nice. Fun with couches and cushy seats. Bar has nice seats too. Low ceilings and cozy place so not really big. This has a cool vibe for sure. I'd go back. Not once week, little too pricey for that. Had a great first experience at Hemingway's Underground. Upon walking in at the street level, you descend a flight of stairs and suddenly you're in this cozy intimate space with exposed brick columns, and quirky decor. Despite being underground, the natural light from the entrance windows gives it a warm inviting glow. The bar itself is large and impressive With bartenders who clearly know their craft. Lots of cozy seating on the floor as well. The bartenders were knowledgeable, friendly, and made great suggestions from the extensive cocktail menu. The drinks are not just good, they are creative and inspiring. What really surprised me was the food. I wasn't expecting a full menu in a cocktail lounge, but they offer everything from soups and salads to appetizers and hearty Italian pasta entrées. The chef even came out to greet us, which added such a personal touch. Every dish we tried was excellent, and the homemade tiramisu was the perfect finale! Overall Hemingway's underground strikes the perfect balance of the atmosphere, drinks, and food. Great new place in the heart of Medina. It's very busy so reservations are a must. The food was very good as were the drinks. I gave it 4 stars because they are a bit slow but I guess that is to be expected with it being so new and because the drinks don't all come out at the same time. I understand the drinks are a craft in and of themself but when they arrive 10 minutes apart the people who got their drinks earlier are ready for a new one. Stopped in for drinks and snacks around 9pm, the menu told us that they stop serving dinner entrees at 9 but we could order snacks. After sitting for a while the bartender/server came over and asked what we normally like to drink and suggested drinks he thought we would like. He was super friendly, and seemed super knowledgeable about the menu. We liked all the drinks he suggested, however they came out 1 by 1 even though there were only 3 of us. So by the time the last person got their drink, the first one was almost done and ready for their second... would have been better if all came out at once. The snacks on their menu were fresh and came out pretty quickly, after we tracked down the server to order them. Took off one star for not receiving waters, we had to ask a passing worker for some since ours never passed by again. read more

I stopped by Hemingway's on a whim and ended up falling in love with this place. The atmosphere is seriously cool moody lighting, funky decor and this cozy, speakeasy vibe that just feels elevated without trying too hard. It's got that perfect balance of classy and relaxed where you can dress up a little or just go for a chill night out.The staff were also great friendly, attentive, and just seemed genuinely happy to be there, which makes all the difference. You can tell they really care about creating a good experience. Overall, Hemingway's feels like one of those spots that could easily be in a bigger city but still fits perfectly in downtown Medina. The atmosphere and vibe are fantastic. However, I was so disappointed that the entrees that my son has been raving about were removed from the menu (had included chicken parmigiana and pasta bolognese.) Choices only included appetizers/snacks or sandwiches. Chose the chicken salad with crudités...wouldn't recommend it. Had to remake 2 Manhattans that were underwhelming. Paid for our meal and went across the street for 2 excellent Manhattans. Hope they improve the quality of the food and drinks because it's a cool looking place! read more

The entrees were unique and delicious, but sadly they are no longer offered. The server who was actually the bartender spent more time talking about his vast drink knowledge than actually serving me what I wanted, a class of wine. Instead he brought me a very expensive drink ($15-20) that he thought would be a great replacement for the dry red wine I wanted. The drink he brought was sickeningly sweet and he had to remake it. Clearly he was more concerned about increasing the cost of the evening to receive a bigger tip than making sure the guest left happy. The decor is nice, but certainly does not warrant the exorbitant drink prices. Zane is an intellect, but lacks the knowledge and background in the foodservice industry and the desire to work to learn the full operational nuisances. It appears he is more interested in showboating and utilizing the bar to expend his social life. It doesn't appear a true market analysis was done in the community to learn if Medina was the proper location for a high-end drinking establishment. Unfortunately I do not predict Hemingway's long-term existence. read more
