I think the only reason that they are still in business is because there are not a lot of other lawnmower service businesses in the area. The owner was really attentive and so was his employee. I was amazed at how many different products they had in the store for the size of the place. A lot of the hardware stores in my area went out of business years ago leaving me only with options like HD and LHI. I have always preferred to shop in small local businesses rather than corporations when I can get what I need from them. I really believe in supporting brick and mortar stores in this day and age because the Internet has made it very difficult for them. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. I really enjoyed just browsing around and then picking up a bunch of stuff that had been in the back of my mind for some time. Sometimes I just have to walk around stores to get ideas on how to fix what needs to be repaired. There's plenty of space to walk around and do that here. I should also mention that the store is very clean and neatly organized so that you can find what you're looking for. I will definitely be going back in the future for my hardware needs.

Aside from the price issue complaint, the shop itself is very cute. Everything decorated there looks like a winter wonderland during December. As the name suggests, they have a large nursery section for all sorts of plants throughout the shop. They also have many curated decorative and gift type items for sale. They have small sections of sale items which have very specific brands or circumstances that they apply to. Given the neighborhood demographic the steep prices are not surprising. If you find something you like here, it may be worth looking into how to get the item directly from the seller. One of the main benefits is that this is indoors and directly attached to the café, which I enjoyed much more. It's always fun to walk around and digest to browse after a meal.

While branded as an ACE store--nothing against ACE, I've found them in various locations, including Madison, CT, to be consistently excellent--Ridgefield Hardware has the look and feel of a true, old-fashioned, independently run store. The staff are all very nice and very knowledgeable. While I use Ring's End for bigger projects, when I'm looking for something specific and cannot find it at Ring's End, I more often than not find that Ridgefield Hardware has what I need. If you don't see what you want quickly, just ask. The great team behind the cash registers at the front will ask when you come in if they can help. Don't be shy--tell them what you are looking for--unless you are just browsing or know exactly where the items you need are located. It will save you time and they'll alert someone to help you. Today I came in for something I had ordered online. I was directed to this short, fat, bald, man who immediately turned angry the minute asked for his advice on how to use the product. For this guy to get so angry so fast when asked for a simple response, makes me wonder how he still has a job. Honestly, I can only assume that unless this guy has a record of being so prolifically rude to every customer that walks thru the door that this guy is a grade A homophobe. I know homophobia when I see it. Ive lived with it my whole life. But I called him out and told him he was rude and that I could have gone to Home Depot but I want to support Feinsod's in the shadow of a superstore. When I said I could have easily gone to Home Depot but chose not to he screamed to me "THEN GO TO HOME DEPOT!"
