I have never been so happy with a vet since I got my dog. Dr. Lassin is an amazing person, who truly cares for his patients. For the first time i felt like a vet was not after my money, but after solutions to get my dog better. Dr. Lassin gives me alternatives to cheaper medicine that gets the job done. My dog has food allergies, and now we found out she has mites. I have spent so much money on her, because other vets were just guessing what she had, and suggesting a bunch of stuff that she didn't even need; including over medicating my dog for months. Dr. Lassin has helped my dog and my family so much. He emails me to check on my dog, and gives me instant solutions to any problems my dog has. I am beyond happy and blessed to have Dr. Lassin as my veterinarian. read more

This is a review for Hemopet's Greyhound Adoption Program and not for the blood bank operation. I write this review sadly because the adoption department does not seem very interested in its mission to place retired greyhounds in forever homes. I write this also in hopes that someone at Hemopet reads this and can act on this. There are too many retired racing greyhounds at Hemopet waiting for forever homes. How long are these guys kept there? You say they are done giving blood by 12-18 months, but those dogs are kept much, much longer and not being adopted out. You can never get the head of adoption on the phone. Emailing takes forever to get a response. Is there a real staff at this place or just volunteers who "work" when they feel like leaving the house? I'm not the only one who has noticed this and has written publicly about the inefficiency and response time. You can't even fill out an application online, which is standard practice at all other Southern California greyhound adoption groups like FastFriends, GreySave, SoCalGAL, houndsavers.org, etc. The photos on the website are not up to date. The website does not contain all the revelant information on the individual dogs like small dog/cat test results, the dog's original race name so you can look up the dog on the trackinfo database, how long the dog has been waiting for a forever family, personality descriptions, etc. There is no post-adoption support. Where do the adopters talk to one another? There is no forum or Facebook group where owners can talk to and support one another. There are no annual meetups or anything. There's no community for these blood donors who get adopted. Hemopet doesn't seem to be proactive about having a post-adoption community at all. Dr. Dodds is the BEST! She knows more than every other vet we've ever been to. She genuinely cares about the animals and educates us owners on how to "natural rearing" which is the best way to have incredibly healthy pets who live much longer lives. She's not only a holistic vet, she's also an immunologist who tells you the truth about vaccines. We highly recommend her and have referred every dog owner we know to her. Check out The Rabies Challenge fund online and donate to help prove once and for all that our pets do NOT need repeat vaccines as touted by conventional vets. This test is faulty and unreliable, and Dr Dodd's leaves you helpless with NO concrete answers. We submitted the first test for our dog, and the results came back with some high reactions to potato, venison, white fish, barley and milk. As soon as we got these results we switched our dog to a high quality food that had none of these ingredients, shared the food list with Dr. Dodds, she agreed our dog would be fine. Right away her itching got worse. I contacted Jean and told her what was happening, and suggested that something may have gone wrong, I asked for either a refund or a second test because this gave us no answers. An associate of mine suggested that the food our dog was on during the time frame of the first test, could have affected the test results. I asked Jean this, she denied it, which I have in our correspondence. So let's skip forward, she agreed to a second test, we got our second test results, which then showed weak or negative reactions to all the previous ingredients that were indicated on the first test except for the Barley. I was so upset, but not surprised. When I brought this to her attention, she then started blaming the food our dog was on during the first test period. WHAT? Are you kidding me? You flat our denied that this could be a possibility, now you're saying it is the reason that the first test could be "wrong" and yet ignoring the real fact that more than a month later of following your test results she's still itching like crazy. I have begged for answers, and gotten nowhere. She took my money, and will not help us. She will not refund us. My dog still itches, we have no clue what she's allergic to besides Barley (which is NOT in her food), and Jean does not care. I'm nothing but an annoyance to her because I won't just settle with the two sets of different results. Just because this test has worked for others, does not mean it's 100% and will work for everyone like she says it will or we would know how to help our dog. This test did not work for my dog. We have no answers as to what our dog is actually allergic to and Jean has chosen to no longer care or try to help. I will be taking all our correspondence and filing a report with the VMB of California, because to me, the goal should be to help my dog, not take my money then tell me to take a hike when you don't want to deal with it anymore. read more

Another 5 stars for Dr. Lassin. He has the unique ability to make you feel as if your pet is the most important pet on the planet. Though he is no longer with the practice we feel lucky to have had his care. Where ever he next practices you can feel confident that your animal will be getting great care. I am sure Hemopet will go on without him, but I have to wonder what were they thinking letting him get away. read more

Hes a great vet and most of all honest .I reallly recommend this animal Hospital . They are experienced , caring and most of all are here for the best interests of your pet , and they don't gouge you on their fees .Its worth the trip Cant say enough good things .Heather needed to have teeth extracted and I really felt secure with professionals They did a great job. read more

Hemopet is a really wonderful place that takes great care of their Greyhound. They are friendly, and always there to help out. I am currently on my 4th Grey, and have always had them in pairs. I wouldn't go anywhere else, as they have a wonderful vet, Dr. Dodds, as she is an expert in Grey's and other dogs. They never do unnecessary vaccines, as most vets do. My husband and I have adopted three greyhounds through Hemopet. These dogs we love as our own children. They do an amazing job caring for the dogs, most of all we always felt welcomed and had a pleasant experience. I also recommend buying their dog food Precise. This review is for the greyhound adoption part of Hemopet and has nothing to do with the clinic or Dr. Dodd's work. In the summer of 2012, my wife and I were looking to adopt a greyhound. After much research on the internet of the southern California area, we found Hemopet. We read all their information and came up with a few questions. We wrote several emails in a week's time and never got a response. Called the adoptions part of Hemopet on numerous occasions and no one ever answered the phone. Left a message and never received a call back. Finally drove two hours to Garden Grove. No one was in the office and had problems finding anyone to help us. After 15 minutes found someone coming out of a backdoor to help. Had a nice young man take us to the back and give us some information about the facility. We told him we had tried to call and leave emails but got no answers. He told us you pretty much just have to come down that there is no one who returns calls or emails!!! He then allowed us to walk and interact with several greyhounds on their grounds. This was nice and gave us a chance to evaluate these wonderful animals. The young man asked us what we were looking for in a greyhound so we told him possibly a female who might be a good match for our male dog we already had, but told him we were open to their suggestions since they were more knowledgeable than we were. He made a phone call to his supervisor right in front of us and we could hear her say, "I'll be the one who tells them what they get." When he got off the phone he tried to cover and we didn't let on we could hear her response. He then handed us an application for adoption. We were a bit taken back by her decision without ever meeting us. All we were looking for here was to talk with someone about adoption and get advice on what was best. I guess our impressions upon leaving there was that since they were very hard to get a hold of, how badly did they really want to adopt out their greyhounds? Additionally, the supervisor didn't seem to really want to work as a partnership with us to find a greyhound and thought only she knew best. We were just not left with a warm cozy feeling. We eventually found an adoption agency who were very personable and friendly and willing to teach us and find us a very nice greyhound. Two stars for at least letting us walk with several of their dogs. read more

Dr. Jean Dodds is one of my dog's vets. She is so incredibly kind and caring and has helped me numerous times over the phone or by e-mail when she is out of the office and we have had an issue. She is a specialist in vaccines & thyroid issues in dogs in addition to having the canine blood bank. My dog was having seizures before Dr. Dodds got her thyroid under control. read more

This review is for both veterinary care as well as greyhound adoption. I recently brought my non-greyhound dog to see Dr. Leumer for recent seizures. I was incredibly pleased by her level of care, commitment and treatment for my dog, which is holistic in nature with traditional medication as needed. Dr. Leumer made herself very available to me after the one appointment , to check up on us, as well as if additional issues arose. I also want to talk about the greyhound adoption aspect of Hemopet. I have adopted my greys from Hemopet, as well as having non-grey dogs from other rescues. I read the previous review where someone was displeased with overhearing that a Hemopet staff member would be very involved in picking a dog for that family. I didn't used to understand the need for this sort of thing with any rescue, but now I absolutely do. All rescues, including Hemopet, want a match that will last a lifetime. This means profiling dogs and adopters, so that a dog who needs another dog in the home to be happy won't go to a home where he's the only dog. Or a dog who is low energy won't be placed in a home where the mom or dad is looking for a jogging buddy. So many people pick dogs based on appearance, sex or size, and this does not work. I understand this now. The adoption process at Hemopet is caring, careful, and thorough. It is Hemopet's job to place their dogs in homes where they will succeed. If they don't put the dogs first, who will? This isn't to say that it's easy to hear that the handsome and adorable grey who is just so affectionate with you won't be a great fit with your toddler or your cat (Hemopet tests for all of that!). But in my mind, understanding the reasoning behind the adoption placements can go a long way toward mitigating hard or hurt feelings. read more

I am a volunteer for the grayhound adoption at Hemopet on weekends. The greyhounds here are well cared for and look happy. Facility is clean. For anyone ready to adopt a dog, come here for a loving and gentle grayhound. But if you aren't ready to take home a dog yet, here is a place where you could walk and interact with grayhounds 10-4 daily. No fees and no commitments. Just show up and they will hand you a leash. Perfect for someone to see if they are ready for a grayhound. The ground is a nice and safe environment to spend an afternoon with adorable grayhounds, until you are ready to take a friend home. I'm using Hemopet as a training ground for a future grayhound owner. This breed is little known to the general public. They are breed for racing track usually. Then on to adoption, blood bank or lesser fate. Most of their younger years are spent as working dog. But they are truely wonderful and gentle dogs to have. And contrary to their size, grayhounds are actually suitable for small size living quarters as they are trained to stay in small confined area very early on in life. My dog has been plagued by a series of unidentified bleeding episodes the most serious being in his spinal cord causing total paralysis at 8 months of age. He was left undiagnosed for 2 years as he regained his ability to walk. After many expensive treatments and no real explanation. I was becoming disillusioned with the vets I was encountering, finally a severe hematoma (caused by rough handling by a vet tech) left me looking for answers. I saw Dr Dodds name on a few articled about canine hemophilia. I thought it was amazing that she had started the blood bank for dogs and felt I should contact her. I found Hemopet online and emailed Dr Dodds. She responded to every single one of my worried emails. In addition to his health issues my dog had become extremely skeptical and aggressive toward veterinary treatment. After taking him to 3 local vets who could not handle him and or refused to check him for a bleeding disorder. (I was charged for the full visit anyway) I decided to take him on the one hour drive to Hemopet to have diagnostic blood work done. Dr Dodds understood his fear and she knew exactly how to handle him, the blood was obtained. My dog was examined and we were so grateful to have found Dr Dodds and Hemopet. In my opinion there is no other vet of her caliber. Dr Dodds knew the treatment for him even before he was diagnosed... as it turns out he does have a rare blood clotting factor disorder... and Dr Dodds knew this just from my emails...and she knew exactly what he needed...and mystery solved... The Greyhound rescue and the Rabies Challenge... are other amazing work that Dr Dodds and her staff are doing...I cant say enough good things about Dr Dodds and Hemopet. This review if for Dr Lassin at Hemopet Holistic Care. A few years ago, I was searching for a holistic Vet in Orange County. After lots of research, I took my dog to Dr Lassin. My dog was 12 at the time, and has numerous "issues" including chronic back issues, allergies, digestive issues... Dr Lassin did a complete Western medicine exam, and what was most important to me, a holistic exam. During the first appointment, I found out that Dr Lassin was also working with Dr Dodds. I've had greyhounds for 10+ years, and have been having blood work done at Hemopet for years, so was very happy to find this connection. Based on Dr Lassin's recommendations, we changed Arthur's diet, put him on some supplements and regular acupuncture sessions (with electrical stimulation). Arthur is now 14 1/2 and would not still be with us without Dr Lassin's care. We still see him for regular acupuncture sessions and check ups. Love him! read more
