Daiso was founded in 1977, with the name meaning To Create Big. It originated from the 100Yen…read morestores that are all over Japan, This location in Long Beach is well run, with fully stocked shelves, ranging from very specific products used for one particular purpose to everyday things that one would constantly have to replenish. Slowly browsing the shelves is like walking through a series of infocommercials...very possible that what you buy was a complete waste of money, but having the risk be minimal since it's only a dollar. When we went to Japan many years ago (before Daiso made it to the US in 2005), 100 yen truly meant a dollar. But the Japanese economy has really struggled compared to the US, to the point where 100 yen is only worth 64 cents now in 2024. Another thing I noticed is how they handle labeling of prices. Both 100yen stores and US dollar stores keep the effort of pricing products low, by selling everything at one even price (i.e. a dollar or 100yen). Of course, with inflation, this is not sustainable...prices need to go up. So rather than having to relabel everything as prices go up, instead Daiso uses the prelabeled price in YEN to represent a CODE..translated to a dollar amount per charts that are found throughout the store. And the vast majority of product has no price...which means that it is the default price of the entire store (which in 2024 is $1.75). Unlike 99cent or dollar stores in the US which sell mostly excess products that you can find in department or grocery stores, much of the products in Daiso are made exclusively for them. Thus, you can find real useful things here, at decent quality. On this visit (which we made only because we saw this store near the place where we had lunch), we ended up getting 2 china soup bowls, loose tea leaf filters, a fat/scum skimmer for soups, a spring loaded glass bottle for Q-tips (or in my case, Glide flossers), and a 10 pack of clasp chip bag clips. And none of them had marked prices, so defaulted to $1.75 each. Even here, they ask if you want a bag, needing to charge you the dime if you answer 'Yes' (that's California). So we always say 'No', and because this time we had not brought reusable bags, used the bowls to contain the knick-knacks back to our car. Would have been a very different story if we had walked, but alas, Brand Daiso is one of those stores that is not within walking distance from our place.

Highly recommend coming to Daiso if you shop at other discount and affordable stores. So many great…read moreitems and knick knack items. From containers, house supplies, stationary and more, it's a really useful store for everyday use. There's even items you wouldn't normally find in other stores. This store is a bit smaller than others but all employees are really friendly and helpful. I went to find a basket for my house for clothes and other stationary goods and they had some really cool options to choose from. I always leave with Japanese chips too to take on the road.

Amazing staff and choices of groceries to choose from…read more I come here when I am out of something at home. Sometimes they don't have what I look for, but that's rare. Just be sure to check the "best by" dates on items. I scored meat that was a range between $4-$6 off since it was supposed to "expire" the day of. This was a steal because all I had was $14 and my total for 2 picnic packs of chicken, 1 pack of chicken breasts, and a fee other items came out to $14.02. This was definitely a rare occasion. I hope they don't get rid of this location since it's so convenient to the neighborhoods surrounding it.

I have had multiple complaints over the years about their rude employees and have voiced them to Kia (the owner) several times and she just brushes them off stating that it is difficult working in customer service. Like, really, ya don't say so? I am all about sticking up for your employees if they are treated badly, but not encouraging them to be a-holes and jerks to your good customers! The latest incident I had was taking off the cap of a Downy bottle to smell the scent since it was one I had never bought before. I hear this light voice and I turn to my right and one of Kia's employees telling me to NOT open the bottles to smell the fragrance. Uh, excuse me? How am I supposed to know if I like the scent or not? I told her employee right then and there the same thing. He shook his head and proceeded to tell me to make sure it is nice and tight to avoid spillage. This was the last time that I shopped at this location as I won't ever go back, which is a shame cause it is so convenient; however, I am sick and tired of being harassed by Kia's employees for no reason. I understand it is located in a ghetto "iffy" area of town but Kia, you do have some great customers and your staff should treat us respectfully and courteously. As a matter of fact, if I am in other areas of town I wlll shop at other locations. I happened to be in Cerritos yesterday morning so I trekked over to the Lakewood location and happened to be speaking to their owner (Aram) and voiced my opinions about Kia's location and he stated that's a shame and I am always welcome over at his location (I was complimenting him on how nice and friendly his employees are).

Parking can be a little struggle as it was pretty packed when we arrived. First off, right when I walked in I was greeted by the three amazing and very funny ladies. Especially the one behind the counter. She was a major hoot that we all got a laugh with. It makes the shopping experience way better. It's broken down into two different sides. The main being where there cashier is and the women's department. They also have a pretty massive selection with accessories, jewelry and shoes. Plus shoes were half off. The other section house more of the home wares stuff, trinkets, glassware, furniture, babies and men's. There were loads of dish ware. Its nice to see that the place was very neat and organized which is also a major plus when browsing through. Makes it more easy to pick something up without having to dig through piles. There's not a big selection for men and kids as it was mainly a little sections. But pretty extensive collection for chinas and crystals. Woman's had the entire section for clothing and accessories. The staff were all amazing and friendly. Such sweetheart and major dolls. Chatting with them was so fun. Found out that the money goes to different charities which makes the shopping experience more enjoyable knowing that you helped someways. I was glad to walk into a cute little shop.
