It's hard to say that about every (or any for that matter) commercial retail business. They have just about everything you could need for sports, hobbies, little league, etc., and the selection is solid across the board. I've also brought my bike in for a couple of tune-ups and have had nothing but great experiences each time. I really enjoy the investment in the community that SB does. They have pickleball courts and pool tables on the third floor that are open for community use, and they regularly host events across their locations, which is pretty rad. Nearly everyone at this store is awesome! However, there was a girl at the cash register who just looked bothered to be helping me. I purchased a pair of cycling shoes and decided the next day that I wanted to exchange them for a different color. I went to the store the following day, and she was at the counter and the person who helped me. I informed her that I wanted to exchange the shoes for the same brand but in a different color. She said okay, and when I asked if I could leave the pair I had already purchased with her while I looked for the new pair, she reluctantly accepted the shoes. When I came back, I realized they didn't have the color I wanted in the size I needed. I asked her if she could check whether another location had the pair, and she got on the phone and said that no one had them in Southern California it was only Northern California. She then told me she could email me an invoice and have them shipped to me within 1-3 days. At this point, I was a little frustrated because I already knew that a local Sports Basement had a pair in stock, but I thought there might be another location closer to me. When I took a second to confirm that she had sent me the invoice, she told me I could complete the purchase without being at the store. The first floor is all camping, bikes, and travel gear, and the second floor had exactly what I needed: kids' soccer socks for $4.99, which felt like a steal. I also noticed they have a third floor for public events that you can reserve for free, which is a really cool community touch. I'm giving it 4 stars because the customer service was the weak spot. I went on a Friday midday, and every time I looked up for help at a counter or register, employees seemed distracted and on their phones, so the vibe wasn't very welcoming. I've been frequenting Sports Basement Long Beach for about a year now and at this point, I'm there about once a month. Before they reached out about hosting backpacking clinics and workshops, I wasn't familiar with the brand. And now? I'm a Basementeer! This store is massive and includes three full floors of outdoor joy. The first floor is all retail and they truly have everything: Dodgers gear, running shoes, skis, backpacking tents, stoves, sleeping bags, nutrition, apparel... you name it. The second floor is a mix of retail and dedicated community space which is where we've held our backpacking workshops. And then there's the top floor, which is a huge open space used for pickleball and other fun activities. This place is an outdoorsy dream come true. The prices are great, the service is consistently fantastic, and their Basementeer membership program is one of the best deals out there. Plus they offer rentals, which makes gear so much more accessible. I've loved teaching here, shopping here, and just being part of the community they've cultivated. And now that there's a new South Bay location even closer to home? I'm ecstatic. Sports Basement took the place of a former Sears. I've been in a couple of times to take a look around and check it out. The entire 3rd floor is all pickle ball courts which is pretty cool! I went again today (11/29/25) to check out the "holiday fair" that was hosted by The 908 Magazine. They had small businesses and a couple of beverage options. The fair was a bit underwhelming which was a bummer because it's conveniently located right by my house and I was hoping to do a little shopping for Christmas. Perhaps next year will be better (if they decided to do it again). If you're looking for water bottles, apparel and such it's worth a stop to see what they have. read more

Staff was very helpful and ready to answer any questions. Price wise it's a bit on the expensive side but the quality of the products makes it worth it. You definitely get good value for your money. They also have open play pickleball courts available on the 3rd floor. I didn't come to shop. I came through to support my community's pickleball tournament. And to be honest, I thought it was a gym of some sort, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out it's a whole store with all kinds of workout and sports gear as well as a play area. And that play are is no joke. It was big enough to accommodate my community team's need for 5 pickleball courts. There was also space for snacks and drinks But there was still plenty of room for more courts. I noticed a table with a chess board set up for those who might wanna play. There was also a piano, which I thought was a bit out of place, but... why not, right?! I was already here so I did a quick run-through for their products, and the ultimate verdict is: IT'S VAST. They have anything and everything you need sports-related. I was on a strict schedule so I didn't really have time to shop, but when I return, I don't plan on leaving empty handed. My eyes caught a few things to buy for moi as well as give as gifts. FYI: There is a fee to rent the spaces for play. No reservations - first come first serve only. Stopped by to see if they have any I would like to have for my snow trip this weekend. It's a huge store and has been here for decades and this is my first time visiting this place. They have everything you could think of. Well payout and spacious and height . Friendly & helpful customer services. They have all 4 seasons gears and sports equipments. It's a mini mall size from my POV. Cause it keeps going and going. Definitely will comeback to get more equipments since it's nearby and my kid needs some basketball & baseball gears for sure. Everything was great until I checked out. now I understand why Andrew came down to check me out. So glad this place opened up! It's HUGE with so much space. And like the other SoCal location, it has a great, knowledgeable staff. I came in looking for a snowboard and helmet and everyone I talked to had so much knowledge on the sport, just from personal experience and others. I bought my board and am excited to try it out. Their selections seem to be better as well. I'm a short size, so I actually saw more short bib selections than the other places. The value is about the same. They have been very patient and have gone the extra mile to support me. Pat and Alex can answer any questions you may have about anything here. I highly recommend taking advantage of the tennis racquet demo program if you're looking to buy a tennis racquet. This is beyond the nicest store I've been into! I had three employees ask me how I was doing, and if I needed help during my time, browsing the downstairs area. Restrooms are very clean on the second floor as well! When leaving, the employee who helped me check out wish me a good day. The inside is very neat and organized. Sales are clearly listed on all items. Good selection between male and female clothes as well as name brands and more unknown brands. Sports Basement is a great addition to Long Beach. It's a huge store with both sports and outdoor equipment. They seem to mostly stock higher end brands, and the prices reflect that. However they do price match and if you're a Basementeer they offer you the 10% discount off of the price matched price! In addition to sports and camping gear, clothing, bikes, and more they have a third floor mixed use space. It is available for free for community events and I've been to a few events there and I've seen plenty more. Everything from small gatherings of girl scouts putting together care packages to huge events which take up the entire floor. When not in use for an event, there are five pickleball courts, a number of pool tables, ping pong tables, and other assorted sports equipment available to use for free. My friends and I were there a couple of times a week during the summer to play pickleball when it was too hot outside. It does get warm on the third floor, but it's definitely better than being out in the hot sun getting sunburned. The floors are concrete, so they can be a little tough on your joints, but the fact that the courts are free is a HUGE bonus to the community. They have an equipment rental program if you just need someonething for a short time or want to try it out before you buy it. For pickleball paddles they also offer a try before you buy program where you can rent a paddle and then apply your rental fee toward a paddle purchase once you find the one you like. They also have an excellent return policy if something doesn't end up working out. read more

I had the best shoe-shopping experience ever with Pat this morning. My wife and I both needed new running shoes, and we have been running for decades. We know what we wanted, and Pat was knowledgeable and helpful. He used to work at Runner's High before joining Sports Basement. Most of the shoes seem significantly less expensive than Big 5 or Runner's High. I used to get my shoes from Road Runner on 2nd Street, but I've found my new favorite shoe place. I can't believe some of the reviewers complained about the music. The playlist has some of the best 80's hits. We felt like we've been transported back in time to our high school years. The store is also very dog-friendly. You can bring your leashed dog everywhere inside. My dog even got a treat from the staff. read more

We've visited the Sports Basement in Fountain Valley before, so we were excited to see a location a bit closer to us--now if only they'd open one in the SGV (hint hint)! This spot is huge, taking over what used to be a Sears, and even has a pickleball court on the third floor. Most other places only rent boards, but this place has both, which was a huge plus. I headed to the back where the rentals are, and Alex greeted me warmly. Um, hello! Where has Sports Basement been all my life?! My family and I entered Sports Basement on a whim on our way into TJ Maxx (next door) and boy were we blown away. This store has everything you could imagine needing for outdoor adventures: clothing, gear, shoes and even rentals! The staff on the 2nd floor helped us browse the Hoka selection & despite it being our first time there, they treated us as if we were regulars. Such a cool store and only found out about it because of good ole Instagram. For some reason, my IG's algorithm heard me talking about pickle ball because as soon as I was swiping up watching reels, this came up. The store is located in a plaza right next door to Lazy Acres supermarket. It is huge and reminds me of a Dick's sporting goods. As soon as you walk in, there is a donation table for the LA County fires. So if you need to drop any essentials off, this is a place to do so. Throughout the store, there are sale racks of apparel and essentials needed for camp, sports, and recreation. There is a great selection of marked down items for yoga. I had my eye on a few things and hope they are there on my next visit. There is a total of three floors of greatness. On the top floor, there is a HUGE pickle ball court. You can rent the equipment and sign a waiver by scanning a QR code. I am going to continue to watch some YouTube videos before I try this out. So many things to see and so many things to buy.
