We waited about 10 minutes for someone to come to our table to take drink order and that was not until I asked someone to send our waiter over. The earliest I could make a dinner reservation was for 7:30 on a Sunday night (I also noted it was my 65th birthday on the reservation). When we walked in the restaurant there were very few diners there and we could have easily walked in at 6 or 6:30 without a reservation. I don't know why the reservation window started so late. The only saving grace to the evening was the food, it was delicious. But I received no birthday wishes or anything except from the host that seated us. I went here with some friends, as we had heard good things about the place. The food itself was not bad, nothing to write home about. We did find the service itself to not be great though. Our waitress first came over and seemed annoyed we were even there. Last I checked you have to actually deal with the customers to get paid, so not sure why she was so disgruntled. Honestly, it gave the restaurant as a whole a lot to have to make up for. Unfortunately, it didn't quite make it there. What a great experience at Hennen's. We walked in without reservations but were seated immediately. She ordered 6oz sirloin with baked potato. Cooked perfectly, fork tender and seasoned delicious. I ordered the Mahi seared with grilled asparagus. Again perfect and delicious. After dinner she had a "blonde" cocktail and I ordered bourbon. The drinks were very good and there is a good list of bourbons available. I cannot say enough about the service. It was perfect, there just enough to keep us served but also give us privacy. We will be retiring our next trip to Chattanooga. read more

Old school steakhouse. Food and service were exceptional. Starting with pricey but oh so delicious manhattans! My husband had the meatloaf which was a delicious blend of flavors and moistness. I had seared scallops perfectly prepared, fresh and delicious. The good ol' green beans almondine were everything they should be. And we finished with crème brûlée. I ate at the Hennen's bar while I was in town for business. The restaurant seemed pretty empty but my only option was the bar; they may be short staffed currently. For dinner I ordered wine, the BLT salad, honey mustard short ribs, and the seasonal dessert. I was really happy with the flavors of the BLT salad, who doesn't love candied pecans, but I did need extra dressing which was eventually brought to me. For my main dish I asked the bartender what he's recommend based on two options and he said to go with the short ribs. The mashed potatoes were super silky and the ribs themselves cut like butter. My complaint with this dish is that the honey mustard seeds really over powered the dish. There was no way to escape it. I tried to have a few bites of mashed potatoes to reset my palette but those too were covered in honey mustard. It was too salty and I couldn't finish my dish but that doesn't mean it didn't taste good - it was just too much for me. Last but not least was the dessert, I had the seasonal cheese cake with a lemon curd over top and it tasted similar to key lime pie. It was quite delicious and although I didn't want to eat the whole thing, I did. Great location next to the walking bridge with outside seating. Pretty sure you can take the trolley/bus to a stop near by if you are further up downtown Chattanooga. read more

Went I dinner here for the first time with family. The ambiance was laid back and classy. Very nice. We started out with a jumbo lump crab cake and sweet chili calamari. Then the lobster bisque soup. All exceptional!!! For our entrees we had chicken parmesan, filet Oscar, and filet and lobster. All cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. The desserts we tried were the turtle cheesecake and crème brûlée. All I can say is yum!!! We left stuffed and very happy ;)) we had a great experience from beginning to end. I was in town to tour UTC, and I went here with my family. This place has the best ribeye I have ever eaten in my entire life. I got the ribeye with the blue cheese butter with the mashed potatoes, it was so delicious!!! Next, our server, Paul. Food: Not great. In our party of four, 2 had the rib-eye steaks. They both said it was "just ok". Another in our party ordered the red snapper; it was so overdone that he had to open it up and scrape the more tender meat from the inside. I, personally, had the crab cake and it was WONDERFUL. If you're looking for a good upscale place to go for a 5 star meal, than this is the place to go. We recently moved from Miami to Chattanooga and were looking for a good steak house that would be compared to Ruths Chris, Capital Grill, and/or Smith&Wolenski back home, and we found it. We ordered drinks which came out within a few minutes while we browsed the menu. We ordered a ceasar salad each as an app and I had the filet with a loaded baked potato and asparagus as my entree and my wife had the red pepper grouper with spinach risotto. Everything was delicious to say the least. The filet was cooked to perfection. The grouper was seasoned and cooked just right and the risotto was a great compliment to the grouper. We also had the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The owner came out and introduced himself to many guests and gave us some great recommendations for things to do in the area. I ate came here three times while I was visiting. Once for drinks, second for brunch and third for dinner. Their cocktails are all great and reasonably priced. Brunch - I got the shrimp cocktail, special omelet which came with the spinach salad and was very good. I finished with donuts which were very good, I wasn't a fan of the bacon butter. Dinner - We got the ahi tina app and the surf and turf. Both of us had the chocolate cake. Everything was great. A little overpriced but nice to have a good meal. I'd highly recommend making reservations. I saw the hostesses turning away business left and right which killed me. Within 5 minutes they turned away 5 different families b/c they were booked. Excellent experience at Hennen's! The ambience was warm, inviting, and romantic immediately upon entering. Hosts opened the door for us, and were friendly and well-kempt. Our server, Jade, greeted us quickly, and was extremely personable. She was highly knowledgeable about the menu, sharing intricate details about all questioned items, as well as the daily specials. She offered specific items to us politely, not in a pushy "salesy" way. Jade was patient as we took our time browsing, then ordering separate courses. She and other servers delivered our items promptly, and all staff seemed genuinely invested in our visit being a pleasant one. I ordered a Blucumber (cucumber, blueberry, violet, + lemon); very unique and refreshing. Honey-hoisin ribs appetizer was plated beautifully, and equally as savory. Our lobster bisque was rich and thick, house salad fresh, and Delmonico ribeye flavorful and cooked at a perfect medium-rare. The made-in-house bread and butter were also exquisite! It was hard to not fill up on it. We didn't save room for dessert this visit, so next time I'm in Chattanooga we'll be back for Jade's suggested goat cheese cheesecake with strawberry. The food here is outstanding. A classic steakhouse experience. Although I will admit the decor and atmosphere was not as fancy or modern as I expected, the food and service were ideal. Started with lobster bisque for my husband and a Caesar salad for myself. The bisque was outstanding and the salad was basic, nothing special there. But dinner was YUM!!!! I had the mahi ginger soy style and I practically licked the plate clean. It was the perfect ratio of fish, rice, veggies, herbs and sauce. So seriously good. Husband loved his delmonico ribeye wi blue cheese butter and a salty loaded potato. Dessert he had the creme brûlée which had vanilla bean inside and a decent but not perfect sugar glaze on top. We will come here every time we visit Chattanooga. The food was great, the service was outstanding. We will, without a doubt, request to sit in Brett's section any time we're here. The sweet chili sauce was a great compliment. The spinach dip sounded great In theory, but it was kinda boring. It was rich but didn't have much flavor at all. Husband got the petite filet with crab cakes and shrimp scampi combo. Holy cow - best crab cakes ever! Next time I'm definitely getting the crab cake entree. They are MIND BLOWING! And I grew up in San Francisco. I've had crazy fresh crab cakes. And these blew them all away. I had the steak kabob special. Fantastic! Lots of flavor, cooked well, good portions. The creme brûlée was good. Great texture, great flavor, but I prefer it when the custard is cool and the crust is warm. All in all, we loved the whole experience here and can't wait to come back. My boyfriend and I have been here twice before and loved it so much I decided I wanted to celebrate turning 24 here! Tonight we had the most amazing server Aubrey! I had the imperial salmon and he had the ribeye. Both were IMMACULATE! I had the passthyme cocktail and it was great! Why oh why would anyone eat at the restaurant? I do not understand the positive reviews. The food is either something you return to the kitchen or just can't believe you spent money to eat here. When I complained about the quality of my side dish and asked for something else I was charged an additional $6 for the new side dish. When we ordered a dish to bring home it looked like the amount of leftovers we had taken after eating except we hadn't eaten it yet.. The flavors are subpar and mediocre at best. The only thing that was worth the $ was the lobster bisque. I truly am baffled by all the good reviews. Those people have obviously never eaten at Main Street Meats here in town. Wow! Don't let its location (downtown can sometimes equal food that is not necessarily good) fool you. Hennen's was undersold to me and I wasn't sure what to expect. I went with a party of four having reservations and only waited a short while. After being seated, we were promptly given water, and, throughout our dining there, not once did our glasses ever become half empty! Thank you to Laura so being so *on it*, observant, knowledgeable and kind! The calamari appetizer was good, but the pieces were a bit small compared to what I'm used to. The sweet chili sauce to dip paired surprisingly well with the chewy treat. Lovely cocktails, sip slow and enjoy. I am a large child so I got the enchanted apple juice or whatever - so good! That and the orange manhattan are both great and tickle the tongue! Now, on to the main course! I ordered the surf and turf - 10 oz ribeye which, per staff report is often unavailable cooked medium rare and was perfect on its own without the anju sauce or creamy topping on the side. And crabcake which, is hard to mess up! It was yummy too. Brussel sprouts on the side which were cooked to a crisp finish seasoned with bleu cheese and cranberry pieces - an unlikely combo that exceeded my expectations! I cleaned my plate and still wanted more - but you must be financially realistic, in a place like this. Dessert will be for a next time. Very happy with my Hennen's experience from start to finish. I ordered a ribeye and all foodies know that should be beautifully marbled and cut like butter at medium rare. ... mine however came out with a burned outer layer and more on the medium side. I sent the plate back and switched out for the filet trio. That plate was amazing. The complaint I have is more towards the whole experience. It was my birthday, my date was finished with his food when I was getting mine, the manager brought out my plate and said "I hope this one is to your liking" and did not even have any sort of apology for the first plate, which gave the feeling of snarky as if the first plate was perfect and it was me that was the problem. Ending to a night with no complimentary birthday desert or anything to turn the experience around. Needless to say we will not return and are going to try a local Forbes list steakhouse tonight! Recently went back to Hennen's on a date and we had a wonderful time despite some minor qualms. We started our night with the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake which, not being a big seafood lover, I didn't know if it was great or just good. Either way, I didn't feel like it was worth the price tag. My date had ordered the soup of the day, which had a lot of Spanish spices and a slight kick. I remember it being pretty good. For entrees, I got the Delmonico Ribeye and she the Stone Seared Salmon. Both were cooked to perfection and delicious. The ribeye was nice and tender, though I would recommend the house filet over it anyday. The salmon, I was told, was nice and flakey and paired very well with the pomegranate reduction. (I will say though that the pomegranate reduction did not pair too well with just the vegetables so be sure to eat the dish as a whole or else you end up with sweet string beans.) We ended the night with the Warm Chocolate Cake which ended up being just alright for me. While it tasted good, the look of it reminded me of those microwave-brownie-in-a-mug recipes, which was pretty off-putting. The service is amazing here although we did run into some trouble this time. Our server, Kate, was absolutely wonderful, being extremely polite and attentive, stopping by multiple times to fill our drinks and to make sure everything was alright. The only real complaint of the night was when an older male server just plopped the bowl of soup onto our table without acknowledging us and kind of just used it to push other plates out of the way until the bowl was at the center of the table instead of simply asking who it was for and placing it down like a normal human being. Coming into Chatt on business, we were looking for a great place for an upscale lunch environment and Hennen's fit the bill. We walked right in with no wait and Ally had the most tasty appetizers (Artichoke and crab dip with pita and Southside shrimp) and a crisp Kim Crawford pinot grigio on the table within minutes. The salmon and scallops did not disappoint and the grilled chicken sandwidish satisfied.
