Came here after my Ironman 70.3 to enjoy a steak dinner. I would recommend making a reservation if you can - I did because I knew it would be busy after the race. Not sure if they are always this busy but they are located in what appears to be the heart of Chattanooga near a bunch of hotels so I suspect it is always a bit of a wait. I got their house salad with a side of ranch, and then for dinner I got what may have been a special - it was a 7 oz filet, crabcake, and shrimp, on a mashed potatoes. I will say that while I did enjoy the food, it is not the best steak, crabcake, or shrimp I've ever had. I do want to say that our waitress went out of her way to be amazing. By that point in the day, I was exhausted and just so hungry. She was attentive, got our food out to us fast, and was so kind. read more

From the moment you walk In the atmosphere and staff are very welcoming. They have a variety of seating areas which makes it fun if you'd want a booth for a date night or a table for business meals or even a room for private parties! The food oh my the food, the calamari was crisp yet light, the bruschetta was fresh and tasty, the fish trio was the best of both worlds and then some. The steak trio was tender and well rounded with flavor. A bit of truffle asparagus risotto with a side of scallops took me to heaven and their loaded baked potato was one of the best I've had. They cooked everything to perfection. To top it off the sticky toffee carrot cake was fluffy and paired beautifully with the cinnamon ice cream. We arrived around 9pm (we were not prepared for the time change) and they close at 10pm. I was nervous after reading other reviews from late night diners, but we had a wonderful experience. Our server was Brad, and he was top notch, 5+ stars. He had great wine and food recommendations. For starters we had the crab cake and calimari. Both were a hit. Then we had the Chefs Fish Trio and the Filet Trio, which were also very weel prepared. Our drinks were always refilled, and everyone in the restaurant was very friendly. They close at 10pm, but we didnt finish eating dinner until after 10. No one ever rushed us, and we were presented with dessert menus and assured that we could take our time. We did take our dessert to go. We couldn't stay any longer knowing we were the only people there. We had the turtle cheesecake, sticky something carrot cake and the creme brulee. All were great but the carrot cake was my favorite. When in Chattanooga, this is a great place for a steak. read more

I wish I could say we enjoyed our time here but the only thing redeeming about specific visit was our server, Bryson. The restaurant is lovely when you walk in. I would not say either hostesses was particularly nice but not exactly rude either. Bryson our server was just a really nice and welcoming individual. He gets 5 stars from us. We were the last reservation of the evening on a Sunday. This may be the reason our food experience was not the best. Lobster bisque was more like a creamy soup of a hint of flavor of seafood. I detected no lobster pieces but some places, like this don't have any, but I usually can taste the lobster. It tasted like a bowl of cream. I got the Oscar filet and I cut into the steak and I ate one bite and it was like eating old meat (I ordered medium rare). Very dry and chewy and the smell was very off. Everyone at the table agreed it was definitely off. The crab cake was very watery inside and the mashed potatoes were so runny like when you put way too much milk in. One bite of everything and I was turned off from eating completely. My husband's and son's delmoninco steaks were not the best but better than mine and were edible. They ate theirs but they said they would never go back for their steaks. Baked potato was good. The desserts are pretty decent. Crème brûlée I would recommend. I was pretty bummed out that visiting Chattanooga for the first time this was the experience. Side note: keeping salt and pepper shakers on the cloth seat at the table across from us for over 20 minutes till we asked the hostess to maybe remove them and wipe them off since people put their butts there is a little gross. After arriving in town today, we searched for an upscale restaurant near our location and found Hennen's. This restaurant was outstanding in all ways and it began walking in. After being seated right away, we were met by our server Savannah. She has to be the Best server we have ever met! Bubbly and so knowledgable from the wines to the steaks and total menu. True to her suggestions, we tried the hot and cold soups which were outstanding. Our steak was perfect with all our sides. I highly recommend Hennen's for that special meal. Lived around the Chattanooga and north Georgia area all my life and have always heard such good things but never go around to trying it. We finally took a Friday night to do it and I can say this has to be the best steak and seafood around. The whole dining experience was amazing. Our waiter Brad was very professional and knowledgeable about recommendations and taste preferences. He made sure we were taking care with drinks, food, and ent questions. We had the Filet Mignon Oscar with the crab cake, shrimp, and asparagus; and the Filet Trio with Boursin crusted, Tomato Caprese, and red wine Demi Glaze toppings. Together they made a delicious shared cuisine of flavors. We also had the cheese cake with caramel and candied pecans. To start out I will give 5 stars for service and 4.5 for the food. We go to Hennen's a few times a year for birthdays, special events or when the family catching a play or a movie. And when it's for birthdays or special events it is between 6-10 people in our party. However just this past year they have instituted a $20 outside dessert fee for bringing a cake. Which happened to be a $26 birthday cake, something that is not on their menu. Considering that the overall bill is usually over $400 it is not something that will break the bank. However it is an insult and a stab in the eye of customers who choose to eat here. Considering this fee I sadly give the restaurant 1 star. Fortunately there are other eating establishments in Chattanooga that we can take our business to in the future. read more

To start with the service was excellent!!! Brandy our waitress was amazing. From her service to her recommendations and great attitude. Not only her, the whole staff was friendly and stopped often to ask if we needed anything. We ordered the filet and the ribeye Delmonico. Cooked to perfection and seasoned very well also. We had dinner at Hennen's and sat in the bar area. We were there with another couple and had a lot of catching up to do. Our server was very attentive and everyone's food was excellent, except mine. I had scallops and a filet. The scallops were excellent but my steak was cooked to well and I had ordered medium. It had good flavor but overcooked. I didn't say anything about it and was going to complain. I ate about half of it when the server said. "OMG your steak is over cooked." A few minutes later she and the manager brought a new steak, cooked perfectly, along with freshly made scallops to the table unsolicited! Now this is customer service! I wish I could remember the server and manager's names but when they read this they will know who they are. We live downtown Chatt. and have frequented all the restaurants. Definitely not what I expected. Hoped to have a romantic date night out, but did not turn out that way. Our server started off friendly enough, but then seemingly turned cold. Not sure if we did something to offend him, but after waiting almost 45 minutes for our appetizer, he slammed down the plate and stormed off. Didn't say a word, or ask if we were ready to order our entrees. No other way to describe it except weird. After waiting another 20 minutes, he still hadn't returned. Hennen's has the best steaks! It's hard to begin this review without mentioning how kind the hostess was when we entered the restaurant for the first time without reservations. The hostess made accommodations to sit my wife and I at a booth in a very quiet area of the restaurant. John was the server, and does he know his history of Chattanooga and recommendations to see if we could spend more than one day. I had the Delmonico ribeye and my wife had the filet with John's idea to add Boursin on top of the steaks to provide even more flavor for the enhancement of an experience that is mouth watering. The sides are exceptional as I had the mushroom with sauce and my spouse had risotto even Chef Ramsey would have been proud to say perfection! This was nothing but a grand experience with a unique atmosphere for over 17 years in business and the steaks are perfectly cooked to your liking. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn down four blocks and Chip said this was the best steakhouse by far without any shortage but a level of a hearty and delicious meal. read more

The location is good. It's clean and within walking distance to a few other attractions. The building was nice-looking, and inside, it was clean and quiet even though it was full of diners. I ordered a Porterhouse, the special. Underwhelmed is an understatement. It wasn't a Porterhouse; it was a T-bone, and it looked like it could have been served at a Waffle House. I ordered mine cooked medium-well, but it was overcooked and barely pink. It even looked gray/light brown, as if it had been cooked under one of those lid things that greasy spoons use on their flattops. For $63, the thin, overcooked steak was laughable. I expected more than a thin, light brown steak on a single plate. It looked plane and incomplete. My wife ordered the halibut, and it was delicious. I wish I had ordered that. I'm getting sick and tired of restaurants, especially ones managed by "chefs" calling themselves steakhouses. There are two unbreakable rules if you call yourself a steakhouse. 1. Serve prime rib every night, not just the one-time slot on Saturdays. 2. Perfectly cooked steaks every time, no exceptions. read more

In a land.. far away hidden in the clouds... no silly not heaven, chattanooga! Within this land is a restaurant.. no.. an experience called hennens. And what an experience it is. I've written reviews on Hennen's before and each time it just gets better. They really should consider giving me a standing reservation monthly with discounts (I'm looking at you (Tim hennen). Tonight was no different than any of the other times I've been. I was joined tonight by my beautiful companion who honestly made the experience that much better. I set our reservation for 8:45pm on a Saturday night which for chattanooga and much of the normal world is one of the busiest nights. (Not that I get to experience it much as I work in the hospitality industry... thanks poor life decisions ) but as we arrived at 8:30 the restaurant was only about half full and we were able to be seated immediately. We sat for about 3 minutes when our server (I believe his name was John, we were the young couple sitting near the front door by the other couple celebrating their anniversary if your name wasn't John... don't take it personal you did great) for the review we will call him John! John approached made introductions and offered cocktails to which we obliged, my date has a Malibu rum cocktail named blonde which was smooth and balanced and I had one of their specialty whiskey cocktails that contained a name I could only assume came from a creole voodoo summoners book (I can't pronounce it) but it was absolutely amazing. It was a better version of an old fashioned and I love old fashioned. It was smooth, aromatic, and delightful. I'll preface the food portion with the following; I am a chef in Chattanooga and have been in hospitality since 2008. We ordered the soup de jour which was lobster bisque. The bisque was well executed, phenomenal consistency, and just the right amount of salt. I would have preferred personally bisque be served with grilled bread like sourdough or baguette but that's purely just preference. Next we ordered our salads A house salad with buttermilk herb dressing (ranch) for me Caesar salad for my lady Both plated and executed nicely. Next came our entrees: Mine: 16oz NY strip med rare with Yukon gold mashed potatoes. Cooked perfect, juicy, and full of flavor. Potatoes (personal preference) were a little thin but great flavor. My date: 16oz ribeye. Med rare with loaded baked potato again cooked perfect, juicy, and potato was excellent, the bacon for the potato had the perfect texture. The atmosphere (this should've been at the front I apologize) is romantic esque, low light, old classic music hits from Bobby brown to new age, and beautiful place settings. Hennens is obviously my favorite steak house in Chattanooga, the price is fair for what you get and the staff always ensure a pleasant experience. 20/10 will always be back again. We made a reservation to come here as we were on vacation and got seated right away. The inside of the restaurant was interesting. I'd recommend some renovations but besides that, the food was great! We started with the lobster bisque which wasn't too heavy and very flavorful. For the main course, I ordered the Scallops Imperial style. They came with 4 Scallops and risotto in a lobster sauce. The Scallops were very tender but they had a fishy aftertaste. The risotto was delicious! My husband ordered the NY Strip medium with a loaded huge baked potato. He really enjoyed the meal! For dessert, we ordered the triple chocolate chip cookies which came out warm and soft. The dessert comes with 4 cookies which are made in house! Jade was my awesome server tonight. She did an outstanding job and I truly appreciated her. She did a fantastic job. I started with the Tomato Bisque. It was amazing. It had a flavor reminiscent of Chef Gianlucca's lasagne. Deep creamy tomato flavor that was just too good for words. Next course was a Wedge Salad. I should have trusted them to do the bacon correctly, but the salad was outstanding none-the -less. Blue cheese dressing was very creamy and full of flavor and perfectly complimented the salad. The risotto... what can I say. I only had it better once...that was us Switzerland when it was served from a round of Romano.... This was very smooth and creamy. A nice rich cheesy flavor. I could eat an entire bowl of it. The special tonight was a medallion sampler. All three were delicious, but my favorite was the Caprese Filet. OMGoodness. It was simply can not be described. Far from what I was expecting in a "Caprese" fillet... and a million times better. I finished with the flourless chocolate cake, as recommended by Jade. These paired so well together it was just the absolute best way to finish a meal. WHEN you come to Hennen's, and you definitely need to do that, ask for Jade and trust her recommendations. Great food! We choose this restaurant for its convenient downtown location. Highly recommend the Calamari with sweet chili sauce and the crab cake. Their petite filet was cooked perfectly and scallops were delicious. Our only complaint was the service. Our waitress Courtney may have been new or something...she would leave us for 30 minutes at a time without checking on us. I never got the drink I ordered and we finally gave up on trying to order more calamari. I had to keep getting up and going to look for her.
