Amazing Irish Nachos!! Hennessey's Tavern is an excellent choice for a beautiful Sunday afternoon lunch here in San Juan Capistrano. My lady server is amazing too and helping guests enjoy their meal with a lovely smile. The band playing today sounds fantastic too. Everything comes together to make your dining experience exciting and enjoyable today. Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!! God bless America!! See y'all here real soon. Oh they gotz really good beer too. Unfortunately I have to drive back home and don't want to risk a ticket.

We were at the Hobie Surf Shop across the parking lot last evening. We had an event at 6:30 in the neighborhood. When I spotted this charming Irish pub I said let's grab some early dinner. There was live music on the patio, but the pub was warm and cozy and not too busy for an off-season Friday night. We were cheerfully greeted and quickly told "to sit anywhere. We grabbed a cozy booth and surveyed the tasty options on the menu, While we waited for our drinks, which quickly appeared. The waitress was tall and beautiful and very efficient. The drinks were good and we ordered the sliders and onion rings. The food was fresh and really good and delivered fast and friendly. The onion rings came with a side of barbecue sauce. We left full and happy and not broke. The live music was good, really good. The parking was free and easy. The "Hook and Anchor next door was buzzing. I don't think you can go wrong with Hennessy's!

Hennessey's Tavern in Dana Point is a lively, Irish-style neighborhood pub known for its casual, locals-first atmosphere, reliable weekly specials, and frequent live entertainment. It's a versatile spot that transitions from a quiet breakfast or lunch place during the day to a high-energy bar with music and sports at night.

A "so called" 23 ounce beer cup

A group of four of us stopped in on St. Patrick's Day for dinner. Overall, the food and table service were very good--no complaints there. The atmosphere was festive, and our server was attentive. However, I have a serious issue with how the beer was handled. Two of us ordered Modelo on tap and were told it was only available in a 23 oz pour. When the beer arrived, it was served in what looked like a standard plastic pint cup. I questioned the size, and instead of a simple clarification, the bartender came over with an attitude. He brought what he claimed was a 23 oz glass and poured it into the plastic cup, stating he didn't appreciate my "accusations." Even then, the glass itself didn't appear to be filled to a true 23 oz level before pouring. To be sure, I took the plastic cup home and measured it. Filled completely to the brim, it holds about 22 oz--and there's no realistic way to serve a full pour to the absolute top without spilling. In other words, what was served was almost certainly less than 23 oz. The bigger issue: we were charged $14.24 for a Modelo. That's extremely high, even for Dana Point--and especially if the pour size is questionable. I didn't push the issue at the time because we were enjoying the evening and didn't want to create a scene. But in hindsight, it feels like we were overcharged for a product that didn't match what was advertised. Bottom line: * Food: Very good * Service (server): Good * Bartender interaction: Unprofessional * Value: Questionable I don't mind paying premium prices in Dana Point--but I do expect honesty and transparency in what's being served.

    Cheers to happy hour specials

Great happy hour specials, runs 4 to 7 PM. Includes drink specials and eight dollar appetizers. Pretend to be a little busy and the staff is super friendly, just a little slow at times because they're either short staffed or overwhelmed. They do a good job of checking in on you during your stay it really are happy to help make you experience enjoyable. Tuesday is Bogo burger day, any burger on the menu. Thursday is $10 Smashburger day in the portion size is a great value. Recommend the chicken lemongrass potstickers, Korean barbecue boneless wings and pretzel bites. There are various events throughout the week including karaoke, live bands, and other events. My one and only complaint is that it smells like stale beer in there, they really should give the fabric on the booths a good cleaning as well as maybe the carpet. Overall, a great neighborhood spot, consistently solid food and drink offerings, and hospitable customer service.

Great place and awesome staff. We had the pleasure to meet Stacia, a new and wonderful waitress, super sweet and very attentive. Today we finally enjoyed a delicious Reuben Sandwich! Super nice atmosphere and good music as well.

Decent food if you are looking for a burger or "bar" food. Patio is spacious and is "dog friendly". Service is a little slow but friendly.

They could have had more servers there for sure. That said, the guy serving us worked his butt off, gracefully, friendly, and attentively. Any gaps were filled by the bartender delivering drinks and (I think) the manager here and there. We were well taken care of. Food was great, bacon old fashioned my buddy had looked (and reportedly) was incredible, beers were great, staff were awesome (despite being low in numbers). Highly recommend.!

The parking is definitely limited, as I saw from other reviews on Yelp. On a Sunday evening it was very easy, however. The menu is fairly limited, and I wish they had a few more fish options, though the salmon I saw looked absolutely incredible. I had the chicken caesar salad. The chicken was a large portion, and so tasty. The dressing was SO good. They did forget dressing on both of our salads which was kind of annoying for a simple caesar (so we had to get a side of it). That being said, once we did get dressing, I seriously could've drank the stuff it was so yummy. They also scorch their tomatoes in the salad to perfection. I also tried the crispy tuna appetizer, which was surprisingly different from similar versions I have had at sushi restaurants (not in a bad way). The fish was very fresh and I would order this appetizer again. I think it came with five fairly small pieces (just so you know how many to order for a crowd). If you are feeling dessert, they have an incredible (and massive) butter cake!

Today, on a Saturday at 12-ish, as a family of 4 we were able to get seated right away. Our server was attentive and offered/brought waters right away. We were seated inside which was open and spacious but loud enough to make it family friendly. The tables were far enough a part that you did not feel like you were on top of each other. Next time, we might ask to sit outside so our young boys can watch the cars drive by. We learned that the kitchen is nut free (always double check as this could change), which was amazing since our son has a severe nut allergy. He was so excited to learn this as he can be limited at other places due to cross contamination or the wrong oils. Then when the food came out and it was delicious - it sealed the deal. It is now in the top of our list of places to go. The kids cheeseburger is good size and not a smaller version as some places do. The chicken tenders were panko crusted which was so crunchy. My husband and I shared the smoked carrot and chicken tacos and we enjoyed them both. The beer was also very good with my husband and I each trying a different kind - an IPA and a Pale Ale. We are so glad we finally stopped in and so should you!

My server was super sweet, and the overall vibe of the restaurant was very chill. I got the smoked wings and a side caesar salad for balance. The wings were pretty good. I'm more of a dry rub person, so I enjoyed the wings especially dipped in blue cheese! The caesar was ok. The croutons were good, but it was too much cheese for me. I'd come back again to try their other food.
